    So summer came to South Florida quite quick... with a few "feels like" above hundred days, cause, you know... I live in a what used to be a swamp.
    I have been wearing the Uncle Seiko Waffle strap for a few weeks... and I have to say, what a beautifully made strap. It screams vintage all day and night and with the Turtle SRP777 it fits right in... but the heat started getting to me, and I found myself removing my watch and drying my wrist constantly.
    So I decided to take the plunge and buy Uncle Seiko's Tropic strap. A design that has been around since the 1960's and after wearing it in the heat and humidity I can see why it has survived 50 plus years.
    And after testing I have realized that it solves many issues, the cool "Vintage" factor, comfort, worry free, smelly free, water friendly and of course excellent heat/cooling performance.
    All those little holes allow the sweat to escape and when a breeze blows across your wrist it cools.
    I see this strap being the go to for the heat and fun in the sun!
    I highly recommend this strap... and at $39, it cant be beat!

      As good as they are the only issue with these straps is that it takes a while to train them.
      So what I do now (I have 4 straps) is that I buckle them and place them inside a glass jar where the ends just touch and leave it in a warm place for about a week for them to start conforming into a curve… then when I take them out they are ready to wear.
      When not on a watch I leave them in the glass jar… it helps them keep their shape.

    How is the B&R bands waffle strap? Can you also give nato straps advice? (crown and buckle, B&R bands or another)

    • @RobertBlanchard
      @RobertBlanchard  Год назад +1

      The rubber NATO is a Bonetto Cinturini… fantastic NATO with one issue. The vanilla smell of the rubber… pleasant at first but after a few days it annoying.
      It could be just me with my sensitivity nose. Then again sleeping with it on didn’t help much since I’m a pillow hugger… and I’ve said to much😉
      I also wear it on the Uncle Seiko tropic strap. A very good alternative but one has to train it first. I placed mine in a small glass jar and left in the sun for about a week. When removed it had a nice curve to it.
      All that said I now have it on the Uncle Seiko Z199 bracelet… and it’s a game changer. I don’t think I’ll ever take it off that bracelet. It’s basically a Jubilee without the thickness.
      But as always there is an issue… no divers extension, but doesn’t affect me since I dive in the warm waters off Floridas east coast and the Caribbean.

    Better to buy original NOS tropic straps. Vulcanised rubber is amazing material. Very pliable with no break-in required. Also, and this is crucial, they don’t attract dust or lint. Go for the original and best

      The Uncle Seiko strap IS vulcanized rubber. This isn't silicone and doesn't attract dust. I actually like it better than the "official" Tropic-brand strap that they relaunched a few years ago (though I've heard that version 2 of that strap has improvements). It's double the price of Uncle Seiko and, although it's more pliable, it stinks like vanilla, the keepers don't stay in place, and the buckle is also barely wide enough to accommodate the strap. The company also got annoyed at me when I pointed these things out on WatchuSeek, but since they've released a version 2, I guess they realized I had a point. Another advantage the Uncle Seiko strap has is that it can handle the fatter Seiko springbars. The only thing I think I'd improve about the Uncle Seiko Tropic is making the keeper wider.

    Does it taper??

    • @RobertBlanchard
      @RobertBlanchard  2 года назад

      No real taper… after some time I took it off the bracelet and decided that the tropic strap was not only a better option but most importantly a lighter option.

    Hey Robert, I really like your reviews! One question regarding the Uncle Seiko straps for the 777. What size did you order 22mm? short or long?

    • @RobertBlanchard
      @RobertBlanchard  3 года назад +1

      Hello Christopher, I have a 7.5 inch wrist so I ordered the long and its a perfect fit. After all the bands I have tried including the Uncle Seiko bracelet the tropic is the way it looks/feels best.

      @@Wasabi_Master stuck out about an inch if I recall… and worked well in the heat, but I have since put it on the USieko Z-199 and it’s perfect now. That said in heat the tropic does what it’s supposed to do.

    I bought this strap last month.... It's not comfortable at all and the material feels very plastic like. Not worth the $$$ . My wrist is 7.5" and it's usable but larger wrists beware.

    • @RobertBlanchard
      @RobertBlanchard  2 года назад

      I find their straps need a lot of training… so what I did was find a drinking glass (scotch tumbler works just fine!) and I placed the buckled strap inside so the end just touch. Then I leave it in direct sunlight for about 2 weeks. After that it’s ‘trained to curve around you wrist.
      I have bought 4 straps from Uncle Seiko… and use them daily. Not the best but not the worst either.

    May I ask why you wouldn't want a higher quality and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal? Even the high end divers come in them. Also, what about a ceramic bezel too? The King Seiko comes with both fitted originally and straight from Seiko. They're very subtle and photos/videos of those watches don't do them any justice at all.

    • @RobertBlanchard
      @RobertBlanchard  2 года назад +1

      Bought before king came out… but even then I personally enjoy the tool aspect of my watches. I enjoy using them for their intended purpose, as a tool.
      This watch is just that a great watch for under 350 USD.
      As for crystal, I enjoy the vintage vibe of the plastic… even though I now wear a Willard with sapphire I do miss the warmth of the plastic.
      That said the Willard is a much better/higher quality movement/watch so a sapphire is a must.
      As for bezels… I again like aluminum and personally not so keen on the ceramic due to its fragile nature… ask me how I know.
      And again I rather have a scratch than a chip on my bezel which will happen cause again I use my watches as tools.
