I was working in Port Arthur TX several years ago and I went to the Janis Joplin museum. I asked the lady giving us the tour if she found it ironic they were making money from someone they shunned so harshly it scared her for life. The lady teared up and said if she could she would give her a big hug and let her know how many young girls in towns all over America just like Port Arthur looked up to her.
This amazing woman's short life touched so many in a positive way. She is one of my heroes .
This made me tear up. Janis was this diamond in the rough and nobody saw it nor cared. Now she is one of the most beautiful legends that we still listen to long after her time.
Thank you for such a deep story!!!! Very touching!!!
Uhh pretty sure the people who run the Janis Joplin museum are fans lmao.
@@Fireglo Brilliant observation caption obvious 🤣
It's the museum of the gulf coast and it basically baste on her
“They laughed me out of class, out of town and out of the state. So I’m going home.”
Poor girl. I wish she could have stayed on earth long enough to not care what they thought anymore 😭
@@Wisztrock I'd say it would be a guilty pleasure. Just to see their reaction. And maybe see how many would turn into brown noses trying to get in on the gravy train. From what I've heard her say of her classmates, I've little doubt some of them would try.
Revenge isn't always a dish best served cold. Sometimes it's just a ham sandwich that was left out of the refrigerator a little too long with a side of some stale chips, and a saccharine-sweet smile.
OMG!! Shes amazing. If she was still alive today, imagine the followers on social media ? I think she'd have a whole body of tattoos too. I wouldl have loved to see her collaborate with Jack White., Lady Gaga or Drake.
@@Wisztrock They were more than stupid jerks, they actually ostracized her for being against racism which was a real problem in her town and state of Texas, when she was growing up.
@@annanonymous1589 But just like Amy Winehouse, and loads of other young musicians, drink and drugs were something she just couldn't stop doing to self medicate.
Janis was so witty, talented, has beautiful baby eyes and a such a sweet face, such a pity she didn't have anyone around her who truly cared to look after her
No one can save anyone from themself. The choice was her's.
@@kibblenbits🎉🎉😂t🎉t🎉
She did seem witty and approachable and as I was watching this I also felt like she had baby eyes and a sweet face. She was at least ten years older than me but now that I’m in my 60s I see what a little girl she was here. It’s true that no one can save anyone from themselves but she got lots of negative feedback about her looks which made her insecure. I can’t even imagine how uncomfortable she must have felt when they brought out Raquel Welch.
I just want to give her a hug, she is so cute.
I just can’t fathom how anyone could look at a person whose pain is so raw and evident - and call her ugly. She is is prettier than half the people I see in the grocery store, and more importantly, her soul is so sad and beautiful.
I agree with you totally! She was a beautiful soul, and beautiful inside and out. I just love her personality, her gorgeous smile and her huuuuuge voice. She is a true legend who unfortunately died waaaay to young.
She wasn’t ugly she refused to wear makeup. That was different times.
She doesn't have the most attractive face, but she has a lot of charm :)
I know exactly what you mean~~Just breaks my heart all that has happened to her~~
@Quaker 2019 I am specifically referring to the hippie, peace movement which I was part of. I was among the Viet Nam war protesters.
What a beautiful girl. Her smile is so infectious. And her answers are just honest. Such a shame she passed away so young.
Yes! It’s like he’s trying to be shallow or something and she’s just hitting back with raw honesty. He didn’t know how to jive with it! Lol
@@DeeliteeThey actually had a very close relationship, despite how different they were - they’re both a bit awkward but understood each other. Dick also confessed they’d been intimate in the documentary ‘Janis: Little Girl Blue.’
@@KyleMUC how interesting!!
She died because she chose to do heroin. End of story
This aired on June 25th, 1970, and Janis died less than four months later on October 4th, 1970. She was only 27 yrs old. Such incredible, raw talent, and such a beautiful soul.
Yeah that's right tumble 👍, I'd love to meet a woman like her 😍, instead of some of the concieted man haters I've met 😝, Country women are always a safe bet 👍❤️

Did she end up going to her high school reunion in August?
@@JohnDoe-gk7ok yes, and she had a laugh at them cruel gits 😜✌️
This woman had amazing charisma!
She just radiates such deep pain
via wisdom and charm
Well there was a documentary or something about her that showed more pain for her because it was a mistake for this dear woman to go back to that horrible town of Port Arthur.. they snubbed her yet again and let her know that they really did not care for her but regretfully this was put on film which added to her pain and humiliation the poor dear .
I can't remember what it was I looked at but you could really see the confusion in her face and it was really awful for her to be treated so horribly
@@gardensofthegods you don't know her...lol
Janis never should've gone to that damn high school reunion. She died not long afterwards. It did her no good to attend.
@@gardensofthegods Was it this? ruclips.net/video/8mOP8ucVAD0/видео.html&ab_channel=LauraDOTM
This is a lesson to never be a bully. You can see the pain it has caused her.
I realised words can be a very offensive weapon 🙄that cut deep, and often never heal 😳, so now I keep my mouth wide shut 🤐👆, and let the other person just let some steam off 😉,,,, 🥰
Keep up the good writing
My comment must've got deleted. But I am going to write it again. I was bullied in the 8th grade by these 2 black females. One of them attended the same high school I attended. Her friends picked on what she did to me. Being mean to me. Also they were jealous of my long hair. I started writing at age 12. I wrote a screen play. It was never finished. I threw it away. I regret doing that. At the time I didn't realize writing was my talent/gift till I turned 15. If I would've known it was my gift at age 12. I would take that script out of the trashcan and finish writing it. And get it solicited. Therefore I would never have to attend public schools. I wrote a novel of what I endured in middle and high school titled Black Angels under my pen name Nicole. I am currently getting back to writing my other novel that I began writing in 2016. Ppl need to realize what kind of effects bullying have on ppl
@@Blue-cb5fo I had bullies in Junior High because I was a skinny kid. By high school I was very big so wasnt an issue. But I can say that even today at times I fantasize about finding those bullies and kohberger-ing them in the night. These bullies last saw me in 1980 so yeah it stays with you. Fortunately for them guns were not as available in 1980.
She was only 27… man that’s my age. She seemed older and more experienced. I guess that’s the classiness of Janis and the timelessness.
Life can be very cruel. It seems Janice was a tortured soul and the scars of rejection were tough on her. She sang with real passion and emotion. Like all of us, she only wanted to be sincerely loved.
Janis not Janice.
That's so true! I think the one relationship she was really in love with this man but her drug use made it difficult for him. But I do believe he really loved her can't remember his name he's still alive and saw an interview on RUclips with him and some other guys she dated.
David Niehaus loved Janis and she loved him
"So I'm going home."
Love and respect Janis, RIP!!!!
Something extremely comforting at my approaching 75 years of age to again see Janis Joplin at an age that I used to be at one time. Makes me feel connected to once upon a time long long ago but still very much glowing like an essential beginning.
It's hard to believe she would have just turned 77 years old.
@John I thought about that and I think your absolutely right
She could feel the music so hard it would start at her feet, go up her spine, and come out of her mouth like a rebel yell. She was awesome.
Soul singer personified. She sang with her entire being. Left it all on the mic.
There was a real down-to-earth celebrity.
Yes I agree but I can't remember where I saw it on the Internet or RUclips several years ago ...? ...perhaps it was some kind of a documentary?... but they were saying that when Janis went home to her High School she was not treated nice at all and that the whole town once again ignored her... this basically broke her heart and I thought it was a damn disgrace that the town was so damn awful.. they basically let her know they didn't give a shit about her when she came back and they humiliated her because I think it was filmed .. for all to see .
gardensofthegods people get jealous when they see people they grow up with succeed my friend
gardensofthegods I wish I could find more about how her reunion went! do you think one can watch that film?
By the time I was a Joplin fan, she's been dead for years. No one told me. I listened and loved her and wanted to meet her. Eventually, my parents had to fess up; my hero was a corpse and I'd lived a lie. RIP Wonderful Woman! I'll see you on the other side.
That’s sad
Her smile is a diamond.
Rest assured you got the last laugh Janis Joplin 👑
You were able to to turn pain and hurt into beauty with a voice that could bring angels to tears
May you live on through the songs and memories you graced us with

Well put!!!! I agree whole heartedly!!!
Didn’t really get the last laugh-she’s dead and her bullies are probably still alive.
You can tell behind that smile she's in deep pain :(
RIP JANIS💔
Süss kleines Kind hab dich lieb bis heute
She is the coolest person I've ever seen.
I can really relate to Janis, I had a very hard time at high school. The funny thing is she had the last laugh as she become the queen of rock n roll, Janis was such a naturally beautiful amazing human being who will be missed forever🖤💐
Sadly, one of her bullies had to the last laugh: Jimmy Johnson. Janis died at 27, while he is still alive and won two Super Bowls.
@@JohnDoe-gk7ok Janis is more well known though. Still got the last laugh
Tina Turner is the Queen of Rock n roll
@@JohnDoe-gk7ok Yet, he’s a bully to a female classmate so he really hasn’t won much of anything.

Janis was so young when she die, what a legend, her voice was out of this world
Fist time I've heard her in an interview - can't say I was ever a fan of her work but after seeing this I know I've been missing out. She is really terrific.
I just LOVE the tattoo interaction. They are so charmingly flirty with each other.
She is so beautiful and sweet and I hope she made it back to her home and show them his beautiful and full of talent she was.
she was so beautiful inside and outside
What happens during childhood has such a lasting impact on us as adults. Janis Joplin was tormented and bullied as a child. The reunion she attended did not go as she hoped. It was not the valadation or revenge she planned. She was basically shunned all over again. RIP, Janis. They can't hurt you anymore.
Sad
Do you know this from fact?
or is this just an assumption?
@@MikeCee7 I've read and seen enough programs and documentaries to reach that conclusion. Some of her friends that were interviewed stated that as well. Now, obviously you doubt that, so find out for yourself. Every piece I ever saw about her talked about her being tauted and rejected when she was younger.
@@artisaprimus6306 yes I know she was taunted and bullied in school, from watching several of the RUclips videos about her.
but I also came across a RUclips video about her death in the LA motel, that said that the movie “The Rose” with Bette Midler, was loosely based on Janis Joplin, and in that movie the girl goes back to her 10 year reunion, and it didn’t go as well as she expected.
So I was specifically asking about the high school reunion, (not her overall childhood and middle school and high school days)
because if she went to the reunion in August 1970, as she says on Dick Cavett, and then she died in October 1970, that doesn’t give a whole lotta time frame for Janis to comment about the reunion publicity and it being so devastating.
So that’s why I asked that question about her experience with only at the 10 year reunion. (and also curious if she took anybody to the reunion)
This video, says that Janis claimed publicly thst she had sex with Joe Namath, who was a big superstar at that time)

If I was that successful after 10 years out of high school, I wouldn’t give a crap what with a bunch of people stuck in a small little town would even care.
I could kind of see the senecio, if she grew up in a rich upper-class major city suburb, and went to an elite private prep school in a major city with a bunch of Nepo kids. Then I could see them being so arrogant, that she’s only “nouveau rich”, instead of old money rich.
Because it appears she grew up in some small Dukes of Hazzard town in Texas. (but I could be wrong)
They were jealous, that she was famous and had success in her music.
"I'm gonna laugh a lot man... They laughed me out of class, out of the town and out of the state... so I'm going home."
Was just a kid but loved her. Gone too soon. Miss you, JJ, still.
A beautiful soul. Worlds apart, but this host really did seem to dig her. I like the way they are from 2 different worlds but connect.
Janis breaks my heart whenever I see her. A strong exterior but, just under the surface, extremely fragile and sensitive. So talented in many ways and so misunderstood.
i was only 2 yrs old when she died and i love her music because my mother always loved and listened to her daily. it would have been awesome to have met her
You are born with a voice like that you can just practice it or wish it into reality. If the people who drove her out of town only knew her absolute talent. Janis is iconic.
Sometimes ignorance really can be blissful 🥰, it's a pity she was so fragile 😢
The way that she describes being lead on in romance is so accurate
I wish I could’ve been her friend back in her school. Not because she’s the legend we know today but because she’s truly an amazing person who deserved so much more, so much better. And it breaks my heart to know she’ll never be on this Earth again. Sorry getting so deep lol but I’m crying over here.
Died just over a month after the reunion. How heartbreaking 💔
The Hippiest Hippie of ALL time...
I went to Port Arthur, Tx once, on my way back from Beaumont to Houston. It's one of those oil & gas drenched backwaters that the interstate ignored. I can understand why Janis felt like an outsider in her home town. There are millions of people in thousands of burgs and hamlets all over America who demonize the different to make themselves feel normal.
very well said
Is it only America? That's an awfully broad assumption.
SUPERB post--what you said is so true and it happens every single day!!
Not anymore . All towns today have " the different" . Too many , in fact. Social media is everywhere , so people are expose to all kinds of souls .
The Beaumont - Port Arthur area produces so many athletes because our main goal is to escape the place
Dick and Janis had great chemistry...
I wish i could've been there when she pulled up to her high school reunion in her Porsche...
that would have been very special right... payback so subtle would be so sweet...

I have the Biggest Girl Crush on Janis Joplin.....I would have loved to see her play live back then!! Such a waste of Wonderful talent.
Janis once said Tina Turner is "the best chick ever" Speak for yourself honey.

And she actually made it, storming in like the rock star force of nature she was.
What a lovely soul, she was! She and Dick Cavett had a great rapport! xxxxx

Yes I agree. She was beautiful
SHE HAS THE INNOCENCE OF A CHILD.

this a beautiful interview. Dick Cavette was such a good interviewer. he really reached the essence of his guest. Gosh, she was beautiful! :) 🌹🌱
She went to high school with Jimmy Johnson....coach of U of Miami, Dallas Cowboys and Miami Dolphins. He said she was in a class with her but they didn't get along....two different types of people.
Such a beautiful soul.
What a remarkable woman; wish she could have stayed longer.
She was something wonderful. Extremely talented. I wish she was still here.🤗🤗
What a sweet, adorable soul. So beautiful.
She was so cool & humble.

I just want to hug her, remind her 'Janis you're beautiful!'
thats why im going
I have seen some interviews and I can not remove from my mind that she looks pretty similar than Emilia Clarck when she smiles, talk and make faces, I really liked that... in the other hand I can see the nostalgia that she had in her soul... She was a cute person.
Cavette was a good man
Just had a pidgeon come sit on the edge of my balcony. It watched this video with me. I fetched a bit of water for it and some grains. It drank and ate and flew off. That was Janis Joplin. A gentle soul that flew off, never to be seen again.
Damn she should've been born in the 1990's she would've definitely been loved and fit in today's society.

Janis was talented, sexy, beautiful, and REAL. My kinda woman.
I would have happily attended her reunion with her
This is how you interview someone!! Watch and learn "pseudo silk" hosts!!! Watch and learn!! The guy is a gentleman who has a very sípirited and aimed for good things sense of humor! Rare today, too rare...
Dick Cavett should have went with her. She asked him. She liked him and needed friends. All that pain came out in her songs.
Exactly! I think it's lame he didn't step up.
It's crazy how much she layed the foundation for us
I saw opening night of Love Janis and had the pleasure of chatting with her sister Laura. The production was so fantastic. I commented that Andra, who played Janis, was born to play that role. Laura looked at me like I was suddenly on fire or something. Much later I realized it’s because Janis was born to play that role. It always stuck with me.
They shared great energy.
Wish I could've met Janis as a friend..
This was hilarious! I miss you Janis 💕
The more time gòes on, the more you see how special and unique Janis was.
Wow! What a pretty smile she has!
Janis had lovely natural beauty ... which radiated from her big heart outward.
Janis would've been such a cool old woman if she was still here today
priceless...
Janice the performer is a legend. As I watched this I wondered if she made it to the reunion to show up those who mocked her. She made it! Take that home town! Then as if some cruel twist of fate she died at 27..Ten years after her graduation. Drug overdose. RIP J.
She died way too young :(
well yes she did Not Even Wrong, though she was living her life to the extents she wanted too... one subtle excess from Janis left us fans and dedicated followers of her music eternally wanting for more. I believe that Janis didn't know just how so very special she truly was... still missing Pearl here all these years
Only the good die young.
@@tudormiller8898 I am not talking about Janis here but do you think it's the other way around. The people who die young automatically become good or famous.
*LOVE* this lady in her purple glory!!! *SO* cool, rest in eternal peace in heaven cool lady and rock and roll on eternally!!!
What made Janis so amazing was that she was SO REAL!! Before Janis any female singer that wanted to "make it big" HAD to have the so-called "look" as well as talent. Janis broke through ALL of that--she came on like a hard-a$$ biker chick wailing from the gut!! I think as much as she inspired people with her incredible singing talent she was just as inspirational in that she showed that someone who didn't fit the societal norms (ESPECIALLY for women in that era) could reach people purely through passion and soul. She was special--there's really never been anyone quite like her since her tragic passing!!
They missed out the best bit when Dick asked her if she was invited to things. She answered 'No, I wasn't invited...... And I've been suffering ever since!' on which he and the audience burst out 😂 laughing
She would be so fun to hang around with!
So ahead of her time really, or timeless. I remember they always sort of laughed at her on those shows. They were quite square. She was lovely and, yes, I’m pain
The vapid beautiful people
Janis was so deep. When she described that men sometimes dangle what they can't give, I was like, "Whoa!!"
Yeah, otherwise they think they can't get and there's nothing sadder than trading in sentiment.
All relationships are based on trust. Communication means sharing, making common, making sense. A reason is not a purpose, a tactic not a strategy. When dialogue was cast aside the middle ground was lost and the world plunged into the duality of comedy and tragedy forgetting no gain without pain, enamoured with the idyllic, disregarding the mundane. Prescient presence like making up songs in your head is hard to maintain among the throngs of sycophantics suffocating any such great and fragile dame swamped by fame, always preceded by her name and the stories of donkeys and carrots which is what's left when the man has no stick. The freedom that is having nothing left to lose rather than everything. life being sacred rather than a mere delusion and illusion.
SHE WAS WONDERFUL!
