One thing you should know about Waffle House, is that they are open. Always. 24/7/365. In Florida, that's one of the ways we judge hurricanes. If you ever get to the point that they are closing the Waffle House, it's time to evacuate. It may not be the best meal you ever had, but it's very good, it's consistent, it's clean, and the people are nice. I love this place.

You said, "Too many flavors", and I agree. When you mix everything together like he did, it doesn't taste like anything. The hash browns looked very good. They were crispy on the outside. They're just grated russet potatoes which sometimes contain a little diced onion.

$32 total includes 3 meals, with 2 extra sides and 2 coffees plus tax. Not sure if that includes the tip but if it doesn't that's still under $10 per meal with cheap sides and coffee.
Cream packages in restaurants like this are typically half and half cream or non-dairy creamer. Hash browns are made by grating starchy potatoes, squeezing the moisture out of the gratings, and then frying them in grease.
Hash browns are shredded potatoes that are fried covered in cheese and smother with onions. A lot of people use ketchup I don’t care for it. I’m more of a hot sauce girl.
Waffle House is where you go drunk at 2am because they’re open. It is FAR from the best breakfast in the US but it is definitely an American culture icon because we’ve all crawled in one in college or late at night on the interstate. I also LOVE this Italian guy. The Federal Emergency Management Agency has an official "Waffle House Scale" for disasters. Waffle House is open 24 hours, 7 days a week . If they close FEMA knows the disaster is bad. Waffle House also has a disaster plan. They try to open back up as soon as possible with a. 'disaster team' that opens with a limited menu, gas stoves, paper plates etc.
Alessio thinks only Italian espresso is proper coffee.😊 The containers are creamer. A lo6 Americans use flavored and unflavored creamer in their coffee. I'm drinking one right now with Hazelnut flavoring.
Hash browns are potatoes shredded or grated like you would do cheese. They are fried til the outside browns & gets crispy. No eggs, just the cheese on top.
Hash Browns are thin sliced potato, which are browned on the outside by a high temperature grill in oil. Then you can add: Chili, onions, ham, sausage gravy, cheese, and/or peppers. We stopped at a waffle house in Tennessee and our kid (he was three or four) chose a blueberry waffle and bacon. He stood up in the booth and shouted "This is the best food EVER" and the whole waffle house clapped.
Grits are ground corn. Called polenta in some places. Grits are frequently seasoned with salt and butter. However, some people add sugar instead of salt. Some people even add grape jelly(jam) instead.
Waffle House is by no means loved, or considered "great"! People eat there because they are open, they are cheap, and how bad can you screw up eggs, bacon and pancakes? Usually when you eat there you are either drunk, or hungover! Lol
Hashbrowns are shredded up potatoes...then fried in oil or butter until they are toasty on the outside. Sometimes I fry them with a onions. I love my grilled cheese dipped in tomato soup, but if there is no tomato soup around I will do like her and dip it in ketchup.
Waffle house started out as a southern thing. I grew up in Maryland and in the 80s, you'd never see one until maybe NC or georgia. Now they've moved north by several states. Also, there's a FEMA measure of how bad a storm is by whether waffle houses are open or not. No lie, look it up. They also have their own language. Hashbrowns, scattered, smothered, double covered. Means shredded potatoes, extra crispy, with onions and 2 slices of cheese.
What he created, we call it a haystack. Hashbrows topped with cheese eggs , grilled onions mushroom and peppers and your choice of meat. Bacon ham or sausage. FYI hashbrowns are grated potatoes fried.
Waffle House is most definitely a southern restaurant. Even their website States that. Waffle House began in the South and slowly migrated towards the Eastern coast.
That style of hashbrown is shredded potato that has had a lot of the moisture wrung out of it and is then bound with egg and seasoned with salt and black pepper before being pan fried until golden brown, crispy and delicious on both sides with a nice soft inside. This particular one has a melted slice of American cheese on top of it. It's a homestyle version of a hashbrown patty. There are 4 styles of hashbrown: 1) shredded, lose shreds of seasoned potato pan fried; 2) patty, the style described in the 1st part of this post; 3) country or southern, cubes of potato pan fried until crispy and brown on the outside and soft on the inside and; 4) O' Brien, same as country but with the addition of diced red and green bell pepper (pimentão in Portuguese) and onion.
The "cream" being referenced is a coffee creamer that is not typically real cream and often does not contain dairy at all. It can be unsweetened, sweetened, and/or flavored. Many Americans love ketchup and put it on many foods. I didn't grow up putting anything on hashbrowns, but many toppings (cheese, grilled onions, bacon, etc.) can be added and are delicious.
Yes, Waffle House is close to a diner. And yes, their grilled cheese (with bacon) is delicious. Hashbrowns must be scattered and smothered (with onion).
Hash browns are shredded russet potatoes that are squeezed dry and fried. They are often topped with a variety of things, from simple salt and pepper to cheese, ham, bacon, fried onions and yes ketchup. When done right they are amazing! ❤️😋
While I am in the no ketchup for almost everything camp, loads of Americans have ketchup with their hashbrowns. It's like the breakfast version of fries and ketchup. People also put ketchup with on their eggs and much more. I've seen blasphemers eat steak with ketchup. I once saw a man order a full breakfast from a diner and put ketchup on everything on his plate including the toast and what little was left in the fresh bottle when he was done he put in his coffee. That's part of why I just don't eat ketchup lol.
I ordered a breakfast sandwich at Waffle House similar to a McDonald Sausage Egg Mcmuffin (at around 450 calories). My son loves the place, said I just had to try it. A similar breakfast sandwich at Waffle House was 850 calories). I think their food is OK but very calorific.
Actually, those little white things were creams you can ask for half-and-half, which is milk and cream and that’s how they come when you’re ordering from diners
Ketchup goes on fries, so YES! It goes on hashbrowns too! That’s the only way to eat them unless of course you put gravy on top of them instead. Syrup is not disgusting! If you like a dry waffle, go for it, but I prefer syrup on mine. It’s soaks up into the waffle and makes it so much better than just a dry waffle.
Hash browns. Peel a potato, shred it, boil it for a bit then fry it in butter (truthfully the best include chopped onion when fried) Make sure they are browned on one side then more butter and flip to brown the other side.
~ Hashbrowns are shredded potatoes and onions that are mixed together and fried...they're really delicious! Most of us use cream or a creamer in our coffee - my favorite creamer is hazlenut flavor - I'm not a fan of ketchup, I prefer BBQ sauce, and waffles with chocolate chips and maple syrup is amazing!!
I dont like eating with "picky eaters". I dont like rating every single item on your plate. What if i went to Italy and I started rating and being picky about every meal. If i dont think I'll like something, it's most likely because it's so very different from my normal diet that I'd get sick in public... like blood milk or bugs!!! Nope, nope, nope!
Easy hashbrowns. Use leftover baked potatos, or microwave one 5 min. Shred with shredder thing and fry in olive oil, or bacon/sausage grease. Season how you like. I use a lot of cyane pepper and garlic.
Diner coffee is okay, better with creamer/half-n-half and sugar, and good with breakfast (morning caffeine fix) or any cold day meal. And remember that the wait staff keep the free refills/top ups coming, so it stays hot. You can chat for hours with friends over coffee--just remember to tip accordingly! Traditional topping on waffles is melted butter and maple syrup, but is also good with fresh fruit compote and a dusting of powdered sugar. Love the taste of maple syrup pancakes/waffles and salty bacon. Grits, short for Hominy Grits, is a corn meal porridge with a consistency similar to apple sauce. It makes a nice side with breakfast eggs. Very popular in the Southern U.S. People tend to have strong opinions about grits, either loving or hating them.
When you go from Colorado to the East Coast there are pockets of people who like Ketchup on everything and ironically probably the next most common thing to put on food is Ranch. I have friends from Southern Illinois who put Ketchup on steaks
14:26 People watch whether Waffle House is open or closed on weather conditions. If they’re closed the weather is terrible often because of Hurricanes.
Hash Browns all the way has onions, mushrooms, jalapeno peppers, tomatoes, topped with cheese and a few other things I can not remember, but topped with Chili is really amazing! Choose what you want in your Hash Browns!
Hash Browns Scattered All The Way or your choice of these sides are: onions, cheese, hickory smoked ham diced, tomatoes diced, jalapenos sliced, mushrooms sliced, topped with Chili! Now Andre you can make a meal out of that! It comes on a big platter plate usually! Be Blessed!
Those hash browns are what the call at Waffle House scattered, smothered, covered. They are shredded potatoes smothered with onions and covered with cheese.
Hashbrowns must have ketchup drizzled on them! It adds a little tang. And Waffle House makes the best!! Partly tender, partly crispy. And onions make them perfect. Yummy!! No one else's Hashbrowns compare.
Hashbrowns are shredded potatoes fried in any combination you want, like cheese, onion, ham and many others. Waffle House is famous for them. You can probably do a search for Waffle House menu, and see what they offer. She put half & half in her coffee, which is half cream, half milk.
Oh my God, you just torture me. I am craving waffle house so bad right now with the scrambled eggs with cheddar cheese, crispy bacon, and the waffles are absolutely amazing.
Never seen anyone do what he did in Waffle House before. Also, syrup is amazing. And him rating the toast as a 6/10 tells me everything I need to know about his ratings cause their toast is the best toast you will get out like that(not including garlic toast). Even before you put the mixed fruit jelly on it. What he was trying to say at the end is that Waffle House is open 24/7/365. Extremely rare for them to close for any reason. Usually only for extreme weather related events.
Waffle House is not the best in terms of healthy foods, but it hits the spot when you're out with friends after midnight or Black Friday shopping. My go to order is the All Star Breakfast, which includes your choice eggs prepared anyway you want (scrambled with cheese), a choice of meat(sausage), grits or hashbrowns (hashbrowns smothered and covered), choice of bread( grilled biscuits), and a waffle(pecan). You also get a drink, which can be juice, coffee, water, tea. All this for about $7.99.
Waffle a house is a dinner, the prices are very reasonable. Everyone can’t afford high end restaurants. As another commenter said, if you have partied all night and are drunk, Waffle House is the place for those of us courting a hangover. Ketchup is the best on hash browns (potatoes).
Waffle house is the kind of thing where you expect it to be low quality, but it surprises you in the extreme. I recommend the hash brown bowl, actually.
Waffle House is great at 2am on the way back from a great night out...or in the morning after a great night out. Hash Browns are just small thinly sliced potatoes.
Waffle House quality depends on the cooks. Some are very entertaining and great cooks, a few random ones maybe have someone cooking who doesn't know what to do.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hash_browns you can also get things put on top of the hashbrowns... Toppings you can get put on the hashbrowns: Smothered (in Onions), Covered (in Cheese), Chunked (with Hickory Smoked Ham cubes), Diced (with Grilled Tomatoes), Peppered (with Jalapeños), Capped (with Grilled Mushrooms), Topped (with Bert's Chili), and Country Sausage Gravy I prefer: smothered, covered, chunked, with gravy.... I also prefer the patty melt or the cheesesteak melt. also, ketchup is good on hashbrowns as long as there is no gravy on it already. since hashbrowns are basically thin fries, it works.
Yeah like others said, it’s not the best, but is good, and is an east coast/southern icon for that reason and how cheap the price is. And it’s even better at 2:30 AM after you closed down the bar. If you get the hashbrowns with everything on them, let’s eee how well I remember what it’s called. Diced, covered, smothered and can’t remember the rest of the terms, been 13 years since I’ve been to one. Then over easy eggs on it. And some toast, with cut up sausage and some Texas Pete. It’s pretty good, and nice coffee in my opinion, that’s endless.
And oh yeah, one of the last times I was in a Waffle House, there was shoot out and arrests between 3 guys and like 6 cops…haha, as I’m trying to eat…other people were freaking out, even after it was over, I just went to eating, and got some coffee, haha.
As an American I will agree that most of Americans like ketchup on our hashbrown's but I love spicy food so I always have tomato salsa that has hot peppers in it. But if I can't get hot salsa I will have ketchup on my hashbrown's.
This will blow your mind: a drive-in church in Florida hands out communion cups very similar to the little creamer containers. You pull back the top and there's a wafer. You pull out a second lid for a sip of grape juice (wine). Communion, to go.
@@janetsmiley6778 Not disrespectful at all! Jesus said to eat and drink together in remembrance of Him. That's what happens. Protestant churches don't believe the bread & wine/grape juice turn into the actual flesh and blood of Christ like Catholic Churches do. It's done for community and in remembrance of the Lord.
@@janetsmiley6778 I didn't explain well at first - when you pull into the drive-in church, you get the little cup. Then you find a spot, like you would at a drive-in movie. The speakers go in the car (or some use radio signals now). A service is an entire service, with hymns, sermon, collection, and communion. You never get out of your car, unless you want to go to the post-service donuts and coffee. I preferred to walk down the beach.

5:30 Hashbrowns is grated potatoes. You take one potato and one cheese grater and then you just start rubbing them together real fast.
I can't have waffles without syrup. Without syrup I'd rather eat something else.
When you go from Colorado to the East Coast there are pockets of people who like Ketchup on everything and ironically probably the next most common thing to put on food is Ranch. I have friends from Southern Illinois who put Ketchup on steaks
Please react to "WW2 everyday with Army sizes". Thank you sir!
14:26 People watch whether Waffle House is open or closed on weather conditions. If they’re closed the weather is terrible often because of Hurricanes.
Waffle House is a diner franchise chain. Good enough, but very formulaic, standardized, stereotypical diner fare. Family diners are generally better.
And yes any fried potato dish in america is usually smothered in ketchup
Eggs over easy broken over your hashbrowns is a favorite of mine. Maybe add a little Tabasco.
That is actually half and half. Half milk have full cream. We don’t typically use milk in coffee.
Hash brown are grated potatoes fried .. they put cheese on these and homemade is even better.
Hash browns are peeled and grated potatoes that are fried
Ketchup.on hashbrowns and home fries and burgers is a must. Try American ketchup others are nothing but tomato water
Be Blessed!
The cure for any hangover or if you are still drunk
Those hash browns are what the call at Waffle House scattered, smothered, covered. They are shredded potatoes smothered with onions and covered with cheese.
I love their raisin toast and pecans waffles
Hash Browns are shredded potatoes - fried to become somewhat brown.
She stole my idea about chocolate chips on waffles. I figured that out in the 70s as a kid. Now i want some!
Waffle House is always open and it's cheap. You can always get better food. I would never call it "really good" or the "best breakfast."
Waffle a house is a dinner, the prices are very reasonable. Everyone can’t afford high end restaurants. As another commenter said, if you have partied all night and are drunk, Waffle House is the place for those of us courting a hangover. Ketchup is the best on hash browns (potatoes).
I always get a waffle 🧇 with plenty of syrup 😋. Usually get bacon 🥓 and a drink for around $8.00. It's not a 5 star restaurant but always good.
Ketchup on hashbrowns is extremely traditional. Or, I also like to use syrup.
He's used to cappucino or espresso, both of which are stronger flavor than American coffee.
Here in the Northwest we javelin IHOP (International House of Pancakes) which is very similar to Waffle House. Also open 365 Days 24/7!
Hash browns are shredded fried potatoes.
Hash browns depends on what you get mixed with it
Hashbrown's are shredded potatoes and in this video it does have American cheese melted on top.
I prefer Huddle House. Same prices, but better food.
Waffle House quality depends on the cooks. Some are very entertaining and great cooks, a few random ones maybe have someone cooking who doesn't know what to do.

you can also get things put on top of the hashbrowns...
Toppings you can get put on the hashbrowns:
Smothered (in Onions), Covered (in Cheese), Chunked (with Hickory Smoked Ham cubes), Diced (with Grilled Tomatoes), Peppered (with Jalapeños), Capped (with Grilled Mushrooms), Topped (with Bert's Chili), and Country Sausage Gravy
I prefer: smothered, covered, chunked, with gravy....
Andre,
One day you will bring the family to America and film your experiences…and we will be there for it!!
This will blow your mind: a drive-in church in Florida hands out communion cups very similar to the little creamer containers. You pull back the top and there's a wafer. You pull out a second lid for a sip of grape juice (wine). Communion, to go.
Do you pull over and kneel to receive it? That’s really disrespectful to our Lord.
I don't eat catsup on hash brown potatoes. I use salt & pepper.
I can't drink coffee when it's hot outside I'd rather have a nice cold coke.
