I live in maine. Born in machias. Live near portland. Biggest hack when your here is to talk to locals. We have hidden spots we love. Like river water slides, waterfalls, river cruising. 3000 miles of coastline. Campobello island with the polished beach rocks. Definitely do a seafood bake. Old orchard and ogunquit are blah. Try two lights state park or a personal favorite is fort Williams park in cape Elizabeth. Best views in the world. Try the postal sunset cruise. Buy cheap lobster off the boat. September and October is the best time to come. Tourists have left. It’s county fair time. Check out rattlesnake mountain. Views of big and little sebago. Hit me up if you need help.

Portugese cod fisherman were probably exploring the coast of Maine shortly after Columbus landed in the Caribbean. The cod fisheries had an over abundance of fish. The Portuguese salted the cod as it was caught and then it was taken back to Europe. You would enjoy Maine.

Years ago, I saw a segment on the news about life in the very rural parts of Maine. An old guy told the reporter, in a strong Maine accent, "if you can't take the winters, you don't deserve the summers." The last time I skied in Maine, the temperature was well below zero Fahrenheit (minus 18 Celsius) and the windchill "feel like temperature" was minus 50 F (minus 58 C) or lower. I skied in weather like that several times when I was younger, but never again.

5th Generation Native Mainer here!! Thank you for highlighting Maine on your wonderful channel!! There’s so much more to Maine than the coastline, so if you ever come here, we can be your tour guide! We live in Southern Maine in a town called Parsonsfield, and we are near the beautiful Lakes Region and the Saco River but we are also only an hour to the coastline. We are also located less than an hour to the White Mountains in New Hampshire and could take you up Mount Washington (the highest point in the US). Northern Maine is absolutely gorgeous and has amazing scenery, wildlife and the stunning Mount Katahdin. Baxter State Park is also awesome and fun to explore just like Acadia National Park. Our favorite way to explore Acadia is by electric bikes! You can rent them pretty cheap and enjoy all the sights and major scenic stops while biking at your own pace. We have kayaks and can also take you to lots of gorgeous places to paddle!! If you do come to Maine, please know that you have friends here and you can call on us to be tour guides or just crash with us to save $$$ on hotel. 😊

I was born and raised in Maine, I think it's a great place to live. Lots of lakes, forests, rivers and ocean shoreline, basically a dream for anyone who enjoys the outdoors.
The only negative that some people might have is that Maine is very rural, the biggest cities are very small compared to other states, which might lead to fewer opportunities.
With all that being said, Maine has treated me well, I don't think I'd want to live anywhere else.

I'm from the Maine midcoast. The lighthouse that Forest Gump ran to prior to it becoming electric was manned by an old lighthouse keeper. My grandparents lived in that little village. I loved going to visit the lighthouse to visit with the keeper. College day summers were spent living on Mount Desert Island where Acadia National Park is located. Now? Sailing along the coast is glorious. We have a chain of islands that you can camp on for free. However you need your own boat. The scenery and wildlife are always changing because the weather is always changing. I've lived in and visited most of the states and much of Europe but always come back to Maine. The culture is unique and the beauty is stunning.

My family immigrated to Maine several years before the Constitution was signed and stayed there until the 1900's when they had to leave the state to look for jobs. Grandpa moved to Michigan after WW2. He worked in the auto industry during the winter months and on a farm during the summer months. Grandpa never lost his accent and that Bar Harbor accent is still (in my mind) one of the most beautiful accents in America.
PS: My great grandfather was born not too far from where this video was filmed in what is called the "Quiet side of Bar Harbor" and went to school in West Tremont.

I live in Massachusetts but northeastern states enjoy each other's states. Maine has a great rocky coast. New Hampshire, not much ocean coverage but such beautiful mountains and amazing colors in the fall. Massachusetts is my home and while full of original history, people forget about the arts that run through its veins, and western Massachusetts that is lovely. Outdoor symphonies from Boston, fishing, hiking. Most of all, Cape Cod and the islands, Martha's vineyard, Nantucket isles, the Cape Cod national sea shore are wonderful. And the beaches along north and south are also beautiful. The Cape Cod canal is also cool, with large arched bridges with old new england towns scattered about. Dolphins, seals, and yes sharks because of global warming. Sand dunes...we have so much too. Off season I went to a restaurant in Provincetown, the tip of cape cod. The chef was trying out new recipes and asked if we would try them for free. President JFK lived here every summer til his death. Famous singers, Carly Simon, James Taylor and more.presidents Clinton, Obama, vacation here on the islands. The pilgrims from Europe landed in Plymouth where a replica of the ship floats today. We often get passed by just through Boston but we are so much more. Our countries freedom began here but we are so much more than that. And to be honest, my second favorite new england state is Vermont. The green mountain state, lake Champlain is gorgeous. We're all small for obvious 1700 reasons. But we're beautiful, too. Texas isn't America. It's Texas. We have food and culture, great education such as Harvard, and a state that believes everyone belongs.

Hello again my friend! I am a native of Maine and have traveled and lived in other places but reside in Maine still to this day. Maine is in my opinion one of the top top 10 most beautiful states and I place it 7th. But the unique thing is I put it #1 as the best state. The reasons why are it has beautiful ocean coastline of long beautiful beaches as well as rugged sheer rocky cliffs into the ocean as well as vast farmland and also the western part of the state is full of large mountains with huge lakes and rivers and waterfalls. It has a beautiful summer with hot sunny weather and a fall that may be the best on earth (I am not even kidding) a winter with cold and snow and frozen lakes full of feet of ice some years and skiing and snowmobiling. The spring time is lush and green with beautiful flowers though we have a lot of little biting flies like mosquitos and others then. It has larger city life with professional sports in Portland and the food and beer and cocktail/pub scene is one of the best in the country. Our state every year has multiple cities and towns listed on best places to visit or live. So while this is a good video it barely covers it. I haven't even touched on the animals from Moose and Bear to chipmunks and fish freshwater and ocean!

I'm from Maine (or as we like to call ourselves - a Maniac). From the rocky coastline to the western mountains to the lakes, rivers, blueberry barrens, hay fields, bogs, forests and more in between if you love nature and being outdoors you'll be a happy camper (literally if you like) here. Yep the lighthouse that Forest Gump runs to is Marshall Point Lighthouse in Port Clyde, Maine. You noted the women in the video mentioning hotel prices being high in the summer. Maine is a popular destination for tourists as well as summer long residents from May/June through early September. The coastline being the most common place they go to. Even the logo on our license plates says Vacationland. Additionally, many wealthy people and celebrities own homes on the Maine coast and that contributes to prices going up as well in those areas. But one of the reasons that celebrities like living here (beside the natural beauty and slower pace of life) is that folks here don't care if you're famous. We don't get all awestruck or whatnot and bother them. Mainers respect others privacy and expect you will do the same for them.
The southern end of the state is more densely populated but even then plenty of nature to be found. We only have one place that can really be called a city at all and that is Portland. And even that only has a population of about 80,000. After that are probably Lewiston at maybe 37,000 and Bangor at maybe 33,000. Most of Maine is rural and dotted with small towns. We are hard working, enjoy being self reliant, kind, and have a wicked sarcastic sense of humor. But visitors (or "people from away" as we call them) sometimes think we are rude or aloof. But we're really not. It's that respecting one's privacy thing I mentioned before. We are polite but we don't poke and prod about your life upon first meeting you and we are not likely to offer a ton on our own life story. But once we've met a few times Mainers can talk and many are great storytellers. But, at first, sometimes those from away interpret this as rudeness or lack of caring. There are regions of the US where people are very very open about every detail about their lives right from the get go. New England, particularly Maine, is not like that. So should you visit just keep that in mind. We can be a bit odd but give us a chance and we'll help you with just about anything and even share a few Mainer secrets about where to eat, where to stay, and where to visit.
Ever have any questions about Maine do not hesitate to ask. Myself and my fellow Maniacs in the comments will give you more info than you probably were asking for. We're like an old boat - hard to get going at first but once we start we'll give you everything we've got.
    Thanks for doing these reactions.

My sister lives in Belfast, Maine, which is very near Camden, and I lived with her there for two years between 2017 and 2019. It is a beautiful state! She visited on a few places in Mid-Coast Maine, which is everything she said it is and more. One thing she doesn't mention is the food. Seafood in that area is delicious, and the fish is so fresh it's still flapping on the plate when it's served! If you're so inclined, visit the local places, not the tourist restaurants. The food is just as good, if not better, and the prices are much lower. A place called Anglers in Searsport is my favorite.
There are many wonderful areas in Maine, and it is HUGE. It's nearly the same size as Portugal. Almost two-thirds of the state in uninhabited and unincorporated, unlike the other New England states. Aroostook County in northern Maine (commonly referred to as "The County") is one area that's not frequented by tourists, but it is worth visiting. Unlike coastal Maine, it is landlocked, and its culture is primarily Quebecois. It has a lot in common with Cajun areas of Louisiana. Even the accents are very similar. There aren't many places in the US where you hear French spoken as the dominant language, although the French spoken is Quebecois, not modern Parisian French.
While I agree with her about visiting off-season, be careful. Winters in Maine are long, and they can be brutal, with lots of snow, and it's extremely cold. When I was there, we had a stretch of weather where the temperature was down to -40 (Celsius and Fahrenheit) for about a week.

Maine is very beautiful, and much of it is still tremendously wild. Between the weather and the terrain, it can be challenging to get out into nature there -- but you will know you have been in some of the most gorgeous and untamed nature in the eastern U.S. In addition to the coastal Downeast parts of the state, you have many, many huge lakes, some of which are not overly touristy. And there are nearly endless miles of forest (birches and alders!) threaded by pure whitewater rivers and brooks. The North Woods area is still very remote, and some places cannot be reached without canoes or kayaks. You will see so much wildlife up there that it will start to seem common. Spend a night in a tent on a lakeshore, drifting off to sleep to a chorus of loon calls. You will never forget it.

It is beautiful. I think the difference in the Maine coast is the rocks that come right down to the water. There is just enough topsoil on the rocks to allow trees to grow. That means that EVERY water view is framed by beautiful pine trees. That does not exist to the same extent in the other eastern seaboard states. In the summer it is much more comfortable than states further south. Also it has a long tradition of boating and building wooden boats. The MANY offshore islands make it a fantastic cruising ground for sailing. As a result there are quite a few wooden windjammers that take folks on cruising tours. Type in "Maine windjammer cruises" to see the videos. Three night tours are the best because the guests all have enough time to get to know one another.

There is beauty in every State of the US. I live in Michigan and there are a lot of great beeches and nice towns all over the place. Places like Traverse City, Mackinaw, grand haven along the big lakes... but night life in Grand Rapids or Detroit, old train tours in Coopersville, camping, hunting, fishing, and hiking all over the place. If you like rolling farm land, lots of pine trees, and some of the best lakes in the world then Michigan is great.
The best part is Bar Harbor was likely the inspiration for the the Far Harbor DLC for Fallout 4. They even have Acadia and the shape of the island cluster is pretty much dead on. I love Fallout 4.

I think appreciating all of the states is a great way to approach the USA. It's okay to have preferences too, of course -- we all have likes and dislikes -- but I don't think that getting all tribal and competitive about such things is a very healthy approach at all, myself.

I was in Maine in the summer of 1987, and one of the things we saw was that Portland Headlight Lighthouse that she showed there. We were in the area because my dad had his bi-annual job convenvention in Portland that year. We also got to see Kennybunkport, which is where former President (VP at the time) George HW Bush had his house. Big house...think big Golf Course mansion or clubhouse type of place. He was elected President the next year after Reagan's 2 terms were up.
Another location you should react to is a store called L.L. Bean. It originated in that area, and is like the OG Bass Pro Shop. It's an Outdoors equipment/clothing style shop. It's in Freeport, Maine only. Which is 10, 15 miles up the road from Portland. They sell High Quality stuff. It's their own brand in fact. Just looking at some pictures of the interior of the shop, it looks a lot like that Bass Pro Shop in Memphis.

I went to college in Maine, and three of my roommates were from different areas in Maine. I went to Acadia National Park with one of them, who lives up on the border with Canada. Another lived on a small island off of Camden (seen in this video), and I visited her. Her father was a lobster fisherman and brought home a big bucket of lobsters for dinner. I really think you will need multiple visits to the U.S. One could be to the New England area, especially Maine and Massachusetts (where I live; I enjoyed your recent reaction to a Boston video), and New York is right next door. Come in the fall to see the beautiful trees. BTW, Massachusetts and Rhode Island are two of the states with the most Portuguese people in the country. Save Texas, which is very far away, for another trip, when you can also visit other states in the midwest, like New Mexico and Colorado. Two different worlds!

My parents grew up in Maine but more inland in Lewiston. I've been to Acadia National Park many times (off season) Camden is beautiful with many cruises that you can take. There's even a waterfall that goes through the center of town with buildings built over it. Ogunquit has a famous trail along the ocean called the Marginal Way. It's a beautiful one mile walk to the pedestrian bridge that you liked in the video (Perkin's Cove.) Portland Head Light (the last lighthouse in the video with the beautiful sunset) is the oldest lighthouse, it was commissioned by George Washington. I now live about 4 hours from the very southern coast of Maine and I try to go up there at least once a year. I highly recommend visiting the coast of Maine (and eating a lobster roll!)

Former Mainiac living in Puerto Rico, wearing my East Boothbay T shirt: Maine is gorgeous and largely unspoiled, there are less than two million year round residents, there were more people in the county I lived in in Indiana

I love in the southern Adirondacks of NY, with beautiful lakes and mountains, but we go to Maine every year. It's just that gorgeous. We did go to Bar Harbor last year after a 40 year absence, but were disappointed to see how crowded it had become. We usually stay in southern Maine, in York Harbor.

I'm an old man now and spent all my life in Colorado. I love the coast and mountains of the north west. The only state I've ever wanted on the east coast is Maine and I'll probably never get to see it the way I want to.

Maine is beautiful. The coast is to most the star of the show. To really enjoy the coast is to be on a boat heading north, preferably a sailboat. We are also the most forested of the states.

I have lived in 13 of the 50 states in this country. I have lived in Maine the longest. Every state has it's good and bad. However, for me, Maine is my favorite. Although I live in the far northern reaches of Maine (about 2 miles from the Canadian border) Bar Harbor is as fantastic as she says it is. Also, it is great that you can find something positive about every state in the USA.

Mt Desert Island (Acadia NP) is cut by the US equivalent of Norway's fjords. Down East Maine offers excellent seafood and the most picturesque coast line on the US east coast. At the Summer Solstice, the top of Cadillac Mountain is the first place to see the sunrise in the USA.
(Don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, but grew up in New England and lived 10 years in Texas, I have to shake my head whenever I hear you on about your continuing obsession with Texas compared to any number of wonderous places like this).

If you go in the Fall/Autumn, you can see the beautiful fall colors. Also you can book whale watching tours as well. My aunt lived in the Kennebunks for a number of years and when we went out to visit her we hiked Acadia and drove along Route 1, which you can take south to Boston/Salem. Along the route there is also alot of New England style homes/towns/food, and great American historical sites.

We did a kayak excursion in Bar Harbor out to some islanda and back to the shore. We sat in the harbor just enjoying the scenery and seals were popping their heads up and hanging out near us. I live a 15 minute drive from Maine. Its a big state and most of it is very rural woods.

I think the way you are experiencing America from state to state is wonderful! Don't let someone else's sour grapes bring you down! The truth is that most Americans don't ever get a chance to see most of these things either. We work long hours and have limited incomes in many cases. We are lucky to see a few wonderful things in our own states or nearby states. So enjoy all you can. Then when you visit us, find the places that you liked the most!

Great video! I love Maine, and yes, it is gorgeous. I've been there in all the seasons. The only real negative (to me) are all the biting insects! And thanks for this video, as I've been thinking about getting a drone...and this video has convinced me 😃 At the end the sign she saw said 'Caution Poison Ivy'. Poison Ivy is an extremely itchy plant that is very common in the US. The oils get on your skin and itch like crazy. The oils can also get on your shoes, pants, etc, and then later if your skin touches those items you still 'catch it'. We learn to identify it at a verrrry young age.

Every state has its own style & beautiful & unusual places to see & experience, i travel to go see the beautiful sides of everyplace i go, yes there's ugly in every state also but i can see that anytime but i love we have more beautiful things than ugly. Maine is famous for Maine Lobsters,( lobster rolls- looks like a buttery hotdog bun full of chunks of buttery lobster or lobster salad style in a hotdog looking roll ), Big juicy sweet Blueberries, great seafood, lighthouses, & magnificent scenery.
