I’m so happy VN has been successful in fighting back the franchise movement that is so prevalent throughout the world. VN should be proud of all their individually owned cafes and dessert shops. They are all so unique in their own ways, with distinct looks/characteristics/vibes. Instagram heaven.
The other aspects of these non-franchise self owned shops is the pride in ownership and the customer service that are lacking in corporate franchise where the employees are just that, employees earning minimum wage.

Street food culture is something that cannot be beat in Vietnam.
Why do we have to choose a burger when we have Bánh Mì, or choose a fried breaded chicken when we have fried chicken wings with fish sauce or a cup of water with coffee flavor when we have had a strong coffee. we all think like that
that's why starbuck, mcdonald, KFC... fail in here. So many food we can eat. Fast food in Vn? in here we have flash food

Together with red bean sweet, the teacher usually treats student before their university exam. It is belived to bring good luck and bless you.

    Glad you like our coffee!
Vietnamese coffee beans are specifically used because they are ground extremely finely and are robusta beans, meaning they are very strong and a little chocolatey. I use Trung Nguyen Gourmet Blend (the red one) to brew over here in America, and a lot of us also use Cafe Du Monde coffee and chicory blend.
The device used to brew is just a simple pour-over drip style device called a Phin which aerates the coffee as it brews, and also brews very strong coffee, as the water moves through the grounds slowly.

Great job on showing the variety of desserts - too bad you didn't find any bananas wrapped in rice and grilled with coconut sauce. The che troi nuoc is one of my all time favorites, especially for winter months, but depending on which region of Vietnam, the filling can be pretty savory. The other che looks delish and is something I'd prefer to eat during the summer months.

No tofu in Che, mostly use all kind of beans in dessert. The white one is Cassavas or other similar. The red one maybe water chestnut cover in tapioca, the rest I am not sure. Chè trôi nước is stuff with mongbean inside and cook with either brown sugar and ginger. Avacado mostly for dessert in VN such as smoothie drink. By the way, if you can't find cafe sua VN in your country, try Starbuck with this fomular: 2 shots expresso and 2 pumps of white mocha on grande cup with ice. There is some thing in the starbcucks that sting your tounge a litle bit in a good way that you never find anywhere else. Anyway, there are so many kinds of dessert in VN, try as can. Enjoy your trip.

In US, I mix these two together: Starbucks Sumatra (darker - optional) and Starbucks French Roast (smell good). These two would give you exactly the same as long as you use condensed milk only (2-3 teaspoons) then it will be exactly the same. Or get any good brand French Roast would be fine. Check out how to use Vietnamese coffee filter on youtube, then you would get what you like, very easy and simple. bac xiu stands for more milk than normal ..lol.. where you may try 2 teaspoons of condensed milk and 2 tablespoons of whole milk for a cup of coffee.

If you want to drink condensed milk with your coffe at home, make sure you're using a bitter coffee to counter/contrast it (Viets in the US were using Cafe du Monde from New Orleans for decades when they couldn't get Viet coffee, but now they can order Trung Nguyen brand coffee on Amazon along with the phin filter). You are so correct! Vietnamese don't use sugar int their coffee, they only use condensed milk and that's what makes their coffee so classic, so unique, so tasty. In my opinion, Vietnam has the best coffee, and also the strongest coffee in the world.

18:20 I love that sweet dog. I guess it really loved you guys. Thank you for sharing the Vietnamese desserts. I had tried the glutinous rice ball dessert (chè), too, but didn't like the syrup very much. It's oftentimes too sweet for me, however, the saltiness of the filling inside the ball kind of balances out the sweetness of the syrup a bit, which makes it taste a bit better.

Had a very similar desert in Thailand to the one in ginger syrup, think it was sesame balls in ginger syrup, also served hot, wasn't a fan 🤢. Also the iced desert with the mystery stuff in coconut milk is also like the ones in Thailand, it's yummy 😋. Have never been to Vietnam but am enjoying your travels. 🇻🇳👌🏻👏🏻👍🏻

You two are so adorable. You guys offer a lot of love for Vietnam and have explored every corner in Vietnam. Thank you very much. However, there is a funny thing about the way you pronounced the words Co Nhung. The words were pronounced slowly, clearly, and spontaneously (seconds 18:40), making me burst to laugh. However, I also reflect the way that I pronunciate words in English to minimize these words. You can use Google translate for the words Có nứng to see how fun it is 🤣🤣🤣.
