  • In this video, we explore Chinatown in Bangkok, Thailand for the first time! Thailand is already known for its amazingly delicious street food - match that with the buzz of Chinatown, and you’re in for a real treat! Great smells, shining lights, and people around every corner! The REAL reason we came to Chinatown market was to try the renowned Michelin Plate awarded Pa Tong Go Savoey - which serves one thing and one thing only… Chinese doughnuts! On top of these delicious treats, we also try some other yummy Thai food as evening turns to night 😍

You guys are making me so hungry at 2am!
When I lived in BKK I had pa-tong-go there all the time it was sooooo good! I miss Yaowarat so much!
Many people like to dip pa-tong-go in coffee or simply just sweetened condense milk but you might also notice at some places that sell rice porridge in the morning people like to dip the pa-tong-go in it too. May sound weird but you'd be surprised how good it is.

I’m growing up with Patongo dipping into hot milo or put it into congee. That’s so yummy. I love it when seeing you guys love bualoi because I love it so much while my french boyfriend who love Thai salty food but he never cared for Thai dessert at all 😂😂 it’s a bit annoying to me to know he doesn’t love thai dessert. By the way when you order bualoi you can ask for no egg. However, I prefer to have completely boiled egg instead of half-boiled egg. So most of the time I will ask for Kai-suk which means completely boiled egg. I don’t like when the yolk mixed with the coconut milk.

    • @suwimolsae-tiew752

Moreover, there is another restaurant that they developed old school Patongo into modern fusion dessert by serving it with ice-cream. It’s so yummy too the restaurant name Patongo cafe and it’s located in Banglumpoo area nearby wat bowonniwet in old town area.

I like half boiled egg in Bualoi. lol.
About Patongo or Chinese Dough I was surprised when my sister brought me to Cafe De Monde in New Orleans 30 years ago where I had a cup of coffee and French style Patongo! After my first bite I said "this is Patongo". I wonder who's the one who made this first but China has very long history so I guess it would be of Chinese origin. By the way, French Patongo from that Cafe De Monde in New Orleans' French Quarter tasted so good especially if you have it with Thai custard I think. They had the dough powder package for sale as well there and we actually bought some.

That's interesting. So they gave you pandan flavored spreadable custard which I remember was used for dipping with plain bread. The donuts are usually dipped in sweetened condensed milk.

Hi there, have you guys been to Lupini park in Bangkok? You have the smaller version of the Kamoda dragon walking around in the park. You have to look around the water edge for them.
Also, if you go to the Red Cross Hospital in Bangkok, there they have a great snake show at 14h30. Not sure with covid if it is still on. Lupini park and Red Cross Hospital is very close to each other. It's about 400m apart.
Just a though, not many people know about it.
Wish I was in Thailand like you guys.
    Enjoy

"Bua Loy" is Thai dessert. It is made of sticky rice flour kneaded with some other stuff like pumpkin or taro rolled into balls. The sticky rice balls are boiled in water and put into sweetened coconut milk. Some people put some egg in it too.

    Pathongko
Chinese snack that came to Thailand with the Chinese immigrants. In Mandarin it is called Youtiao, in Cantonese Youzhagui, literally means ‘oil-fried devil’ Due to a confusion with a different kind of dessert,
it should actually be called You Zha Guai in Teochew. It was previously sold together by street vendors who normally walked around and shouted both names out loud. However, Thai customers often mistakenly thought that the more popular You Zha Guai was Pathongko. Eventually, the real Pathongko disappeared from the market because of its unpopularity. In Thailand, Pathongko is also dipped into Thai Coconut Custard (Sangkaya) or condensed milk.
    The legend of the snack:
During the Song Dynasty (960-1279), there was a famous and well-respected General, Yue Fei who had been known for his loyalty towards the kingdom and his Emperor. The Prime Minister of the time, Qin Gui had unusually resented Yue Fei. With the manipulative influence from his wife and to gain real power, he accused Yue Fei of a crime and executed him.
Although frustrated, there was nothing the public civilians could do. To relieve his anger, a baker thought of an idea of making bread in the shape of 2 people twisted together and deep-fried it in burning hot oil. The shape was to signify Qin Gui and his wife. Symbolically, they had burnt the Qin Gui couple in hot oil and eaten them up.
There are statues of Qin Hui and wife kneeling at Yue Fei gravestone in Yue Fei's shrine in Hangzhou.
Some visitors traditionally curse and spit on the statues.
