  • Russia’s first moon mission in 47 years failed after its Luna-25 spacecraft smashed into moon on Aug 20. Roskosmos, Russia’s space corporation, said it had lost contact with the craft shortly after a problem occurred. This development came soon after the craft was shunted into pre-landing orbit on Aug 19. An incident occurred, while the spacecraft was trying to enter a pre-landing orbit according to Roscosmos. Interestingly, Russia had not attempted a moon mission since Luna-24 in 1976. Luna-25 was supposed to execute a soft landing on the south pole of the moon on Aug 21, as per Russian space officials. Luna-25 took off from the Vostochny launch facility in Russia’s Far East, the Russia-based TASS news agency reported. Meanwhile, India’s third lunar mission Chandrayaan-3 is on track. Chandrayaan-3 is set to land on the moon on August 23, 2023 (Wednesday). The spacecraft is now just three-day away from its final destination, the moon’s south pole.

    - First Spacewalk: Alexei Arkhipovich Leonov conducted the first spacewalk (extravehicular activity) on March 18, 1965, during the Voskhod 2 mission.
    - Lunar Missions: The USSR sent several Luna missions to the Moon, including Luna 2 (first human-made object to reach the Moon), and Luna 3 (first images of the far side of the Moon).
    - Space Stations: The Soviet Union launched a series of space stations, including Salyut and Mir, which hosted long-duration human spaceflights and research.
    - Interplanetary Missions: The USSR sent successful missions to Venus and Mars, including Venera (Venus) and Mars missions, collecting valuable data about these planets.
    - International Space Station (ISS): Russia contributed modules to the ISS and continues to be an essential partner in its operation and maintenance.

Stalin thought India is monopoly under British empire but after India got independence (on august 15 1947) ussr now (russia) has transfered technology, steel, railways, defense, metals, mining, petrochemicals, construction equipments to India from 1950’s
Stalin dead on 1952 but ussr continued its help to India by many ways

My grandfather has named his 3rd daughter as rashya rani (which is russia in native language) on 1961 June 1st
Yes my mothers name is rashya rani
I want to convey to Russians that this much we Indians love you

It would have been a great morale booster for them had they succeeded. Unlike some of my fellow citizens I don’t see Chandrayaan -3 as a number game but as a milestone, a learning lesson towards advancement in space technology. Its big loss not just to Russia but to humanity. It was crafted to work in lunar environment for 1 year. For comparison, India Chandrayan 3 will work for 14 Earth days.

Well India has more experience and after Chandrayan 2 we know it would be difficult. Russia came very close, may be next time they can achieve this. Till then Chandrayan 3 is going to hopefully achieve a feat which is becoming a difficult thing for many nations. Prayers for it's safe landing.
