This game may have had 3 bosses in 3 worlds but they actually had health bars when you’re going against them. It’s the makers of this that made those boss battles more extended than what the first game had. The final battle with Ripto was insane.
Even though I love Spyro 1, after playing both on a PS1 more recently, I have to agree. Spyro 2 bosses could wear Spyro 1 bosses around their neck like a scarf. I was sad about the first game when I finally realized this.
Hold on, I just thought of a good one: "Even though I love Spyro 1, I think Spyro 2 bosses could -torch- *KILL* those enemies." The Brother Ned Classic.
I didn't have that much of an acknowledgement for ps1 games as I do today, I'm in love with this game and the soundtrack just almost makes me want to cry it's so beautiful. I hope that I can like maybe get all the installments of this game
The first 3 Spyro games will set you back £30 easily nowadays if you buy the PS1 discs. I'm not actually sure if the PSN versions are cheaper; but it's certainly worth it. Absolutely brilliant games polished to all heck.
I love this boss fight so much. The first part being so frantic trying to collect orbs and Riptos reaction to seeing Spyro get three is always funny and then the second and third parts being just as good.
Out of all of the bosses in the Spyro trilogy, Ripto was and IS the one boss who has kicked my ass the most in these games. He was the hardest and longest one for me.
I completely agree, I've always felt the bosses get harder as you progress further into the game. Crush is easy, especially once you learn how his attacks work. Gulp is harder, but he's still not that bad, not as much as he seems to have a reputation for being. But Ripto is the toughest for sure, both because a few attacks he has a hard to avoid, but also because he has the longest fight thanks to having 3 health bars that you have to go through
@@dsullivanation He's closer to Ripto in strength, sure, but he's not THAT close. His attacks are much easier to avoid, and he's less aggressive as well. I haven't actually died to Gulp in many playthroughs now, but Ripto always manages to kill me at least a few times, especially when trying for the no damage skill point. Gulp is simply not as hard as everyone else makes him out to be: once you learn how his attacks work, he's much easier to manage than Ripto
@@matthewkuscienko4616 Well, maybe I was just exaggerating a little bit, but he's definitely harder than Crush and pretty much tougher than all of the bosses from the first game and comparably as hard as some of the bosses from Year Of The Dragon.
I was thinking during the battle, i don't remember the opera singing in the theme, but it turns out im used to the pal version which has no opera singing, this is the American counterpart if im correct
I know this is kinda an old comment, but this should be a video of the Pal region version of the game, since it's gateway to glimmer in pal and Ripto's rage in ntsc
I never managed to defeat Ripto without dying. I played Spyro twice and both times I would kill Ripto, only to be killed by Ripto after, but the game let me win both times as I killed Ripto first.
The fun little back and forth between Spyro and Ripto is one of the reasons that this game stands out so well in the original trilogy. I can see why Ritpo essentially usurped Gnasty Ghnorc as being Spyro's arch nemesis, despite GG being the original antagonist of the series.
The odd thing about this bossfight is that you clearly see Hunter and Ripto falling into the lava and yet both of them survived somehow (you can see that ripto survived in the epilogue of Spyro 3 when he alliance with gnasty gnorc).
Agreed. It was a hard fight IMO, but it was also fair. Reflexes were tested, attacks were shockingly accurate to hit both Ripto and Spyro, and every attack felt loke it hurt.
@@StacheKing Amen! It was like the fight was supposed to look like they're both as powerful as each other and only having a tactical advantage would decide the winner!
I love the touch of professionalism @2:05 Purposely Not hitting ripto and finishing him sooner… so he can collect another orb to show off his moveset 👍🏽👍🏽
I've played all three games during my childhood and honestly, the second and third games were my favorites. Years later, I got Reignited and unfortunately, the game did NOT have any kind of spark in me, with it being a lot more difficult than it needed to be and the change of dialogue and cutscenes threw me off, even if they WERE trying to be similar to the old games' dialogue. Like in Reignited, during your fight with Ripto, Spyro no longer flies upside-down like he does here, rather he flies in a freakin' STRAIGHT LINE after he grabs the Superfly Power-Up Orb! And not only that, but they changed some of the dialogue in Gulp's Overlook, too, where Spyro is chasing Ripto. Those two things are what threw me off and I hated Reignited with a DEEP passion, because it changed A LOT of things I LOVED about Ripto's Rage, Year of the Dragon and Spyro the Dragon when I played it at a very young age years ago. Even the Speedways were A LOT more difficult than they should be, making Reignited unplayable for me. I played through Icy Speedway maybe a dozen times trying to complete it, but time kept running out on me, causing me to get really frustrated and give up on the game and take it back to GameStop, where I'm pretty sure it's collecting dust on shelves right now. I give Reignited a 0/10. Ripto's Rage wasn't this difficult to beat in the past, not even the first and second games.

Hearing him become so flabbergasted at spyro powering up is a treat to hear right before you pummel him

This is Insomniac telling us that Gnasty Gnorc is a featherweight next to Ripto.

The Brother Ned Classic.
Spyro 1 bosses were barely even bosses at all.
Now this is a final boss. Awesome music to go with a epic three stage battle, with a fun mechanic, against a great villain.
This still one of the best final boss fights I've played.
It was hard for me ..... since i was only 5 x)
Heres a useful fact: if robo gulp releases a fire snake, you can lure the snake into hitting gulp.

nostalgia kicking in so hard...
awww the era when we doesnt complained about grapichs and just enjoyed games...
well to be fair, in 1997, these graphics were absolutely beautiful.
john hamlet back then graphics only kept improving so.. I dunno about this logic of yours
The Babadook What he means is that graphics weren’t the main things on our minds when it came to video games. We just wanted a good experience.
iYorKeY even the Sega Dreamcast comes out and people were excited about the graphics
Bollocks.
6:44 - 6:51 Hunter died.
Wtf never noticed that as a kid😂😂😂
OMG never even noticed that before
Ik I just noticed that
Hunter is a kill :(
Repent and Believe we know. Hes just making fun of the lazy game developers.
Thank you for the Nine of Swords and endless nightmares, Tiamat,....
Brilliant. Haven't seen this in Years. This is a Classic.
This fight is epic, Ripto is defo Spyro’s main enemy, like Cortex is to Crash
...like Bowser is to Mario, Ganon is to Link, and Eggman is to Sonic
Yeah I agree he is my favourite antagonist now
I think gnasty gnorc was his main enemy
ikr and this fight is so freaking fun and satisfying
Definitely! What about King Boo? He's Luigi's main enemy.
That final part when we are flying is my favourite.

this boss fight is actually hard af. maybe i am getting old but i wanted to replay the game after so many years and im stuck here
I always enjoyed this battle - but I always found Ripto's final death scene pretty disturbing.
In the epilogue it’s revealed that he somehow survived and is being used as a toy by a bunch of polar bears.
You could physically ask me to choose between Tom Kenny or Gregg Berger, these two just have incredible synergy.
I like his death here more than the remastered version. It’s so morbid! You can see him burning alive slowly!
I found it quite creepy as a kid when Ripto was defeated he'd just stay still sinking into the lava.
The robot explode and Hunter got knocked out from the explosion, fall into the lava and f*cking dies AHAHAHAHAHAHAH loved it
attempting to do this now on my ps vita. can only get to second part untill i die trying to hit him
Ripto was definitely the most iconic villain in Spyro. I don't get why they put Gnasty in CTR and not him.
