    Tritone exercise was fun. Because it is a quite rare intervall, I had to concentrate on the pitch bit more than usual; as a by product, I didn't worry so much about the quality of the high notes and they felt easier than average. I guess they sounded better as well. Sometimes you can trick us to sing better just by distracting us away from the customary. Thanks for the vid.

      Yes!!! Odd intervals like tritones allow for all of that to occur! Well spotted!

      Jeff Rolka I thought it might :) I’ve been having a tough time recently and decided today would be the day to get my voice back. The last single (on my channel) is something I’m really proud of, but I took a lot of time and effort to promote it and it just didn’t land. That said, your videooooohs really help me focus. As ever, thank you ☮️&💜

    thanks Jeff, i'm a high baritone. i watch your channel daily and it's been very helpful. I'd love if you could do a vid discussing how high baritones could increase range slightly into tenor.currently my highest comfortable note is F4 and would like to raise another tone at least if poss. cheers!

  • @AbudMusicServices
    @AbudMusicServices 3 года назад

    Brilliant as always, Mr. Rolka! Thank you for continuing to produce these!
    Do you have any pointers on being more confidently in tune when starting on a high note and running down the scale? The exercise about 6 minutes in where you start high and descend I often crack on that first note and I'm not sure what to do to hit it more cleanly. Thank you!

    • @JeffRolka
      @JeffRolka  3 года назад

      Confidence with starting on a high note, in my opinion, if a function of proper balance (of vocal fold engagement and airflow) and repetition. Practice is correctly enough time, and you'll gain confidence. If it is regularly cracking for you, assess your appoggio practice and vocal fold engagement/elongation.
      I hope that helps!
      Jeff

    Hi Jeff, I was wondering if I could ask your advice? love your videos and just subscribed-I’m a beginner singer and have been using your videos daily for a few weeks. However, I’ve noticed when I’m singing sustained notes that I can hear a little rasp/crackling going on. You can only hear it if your up close to me or if I record myself with a microphone. The notes I’m singing sound fine but there are these little cracks. Do you have any idea what this could be and how I can overcome it? Thanks ahead!! :)

    • @JeffRolka
      @JeffRolka  4 года назад +3

      Hello and thank you for subscribing and singing along!
      Cracks, breaks, or other deviations from a steadily produced sound indicate inconsistencies in the flow of air, engagement in the core of your body, or change in concept of how vowels are formed. Any and all of which can happen simultaneously when you're just starting out! If I may - start in this playlist:
      ruclips.net/p/PL2mQP7sE6PHg8wjZBjfJ3HGVqjxBF2swE
      Keep me posted on your experience here! All the best!

    • @DrummerDarrik14
      @DrummerDarrik14 4 года назад

      Jeff Rolka, I will definitely continue singing along! And thank you for your advice-I guess they’re are more likely wispy/raspy sounds after you have a cold/sore throat, rather than cracking that interrupts the notes. Hopefully by going back and starting with the beginner lessons I’ll be able to slowly work those out. Perhaps the intermediate baritone warm up was challenging myself TOO much lol. Thanks again

    Hi Jeff , I would love to ask if there’s any videos in your channel that help damaged voices ? I had nodules and they are gone but sadly I suffer from acid reflux and my head voice is completely gone (I don’t know why and how to get it back) and when I sing or do warm ups I feel a burn in my Adam’s apple area and its gets uncomfortable and I don’t if there’s any videos that can help with that , what’s your advice ?

    • @JeffRolka
      @JeffRolka  4 года назад +1

      Hello! I'm sorry to hear that you're suffering with acid reflux! First off, you may want to talk to your doctor about treatment methods if you haven't already. As far as vocalizations for damaged voices - similar to that of tired or overused ones - use the gentle warm ups for your fach (voice range designation). Be gentle! Very gentle with your voice! With recurring problems like reflux you may find that your practice is very sporadic, just be patient and gentle with yourself.
      Jeff

    Hello, Jeff. I have a question: Why is that I lose access to my bottom notes once I'm done warming up? My bottom is usually D#2 or thereabouts, but once I've warmed up, I can only get to an F#2 - that's quite the loss! I'd appreciate it if could shed some light on this issue I have.
    Thank you.

    • @JeffRolka
      @JeffRolka  4 года назад +2

      It's quite normal for the voice to lose a note or two from our 'morning/speaking voice' when warming up. As the tissues get activated and engorged with blood we tend to lose a note or two. It can also depend on where we warm up to. If you primarily practice high range exercises, we can get vocalized exclusively to that region.
      I hope that helps a bit! You may try specifically warming up to that range.
      Best,
      Jeff

      @@JeffRolka Not only the cool color combo and transition (cloth, lava, and lollipop lilies), but the blood orange red of the lilies ties the composition exquisitely with the burgundy cloth. I wonder if you did that on purpose, or if happy aesthetic happenstance.
