I do feel that the Glock with a partially cocked striker and the ability to have a striker control device (SCD) is in a different league than other striker guns. I feel far more comfortable with a DA/SA in AIWB rebolstering. However, I am comfortable with doing the same with a SCD equipped Glock. Sig 3.. whatever... not so much. Just my thoughts as a GenX which appears to be the Old Glock/226/92/USP people as much as the Boomers are the Old 1911 and Revolver people...
I totally agree with you about the asthetics. Nowadays and practically speaking, its hard to beat the attributes of polymer/striker guns for duty or edc. But, there's just something special about wood & blued steel, and I can always find a way to justify carrying them, instead. 😉
Get a 1911 in 38 Super (9×23). It has a touch more velocity than a 9mm, but in the heavy 1911, it feels the exact same. All major 1911 manufacturers make 'em. John Dillinger had one, too! 😎
Porting really helps with Magnums, although most people don't really like it on a revolver... But it drastically cuts down on the recoil. I prefer the revolver platform myself.
I don't understand why some people get so concerned about other people's weapon choice and method of carry. User proficiency and reliability are all that matters. A J-frame with .38 special is nothing that I would want to be on the receiving end of.
It's because they are all tactical experts who consider their own personal choice the best, most optimal EDC based on whatever random criteria they have decided is important. If you haven't come to the same obvious choice as they did, well, then you are obviously not taking this seriously. I think it really just boils down to those people just need others to validate their choices.
@@grahamohea2424 you mean you don't carry a scandium framed 600 magnum with a 2 inch barrel that weighs 10 ounces and has an optic ready and a rail on it along with your glock 52 with all that and the 50 round flush fitting belt fed magazine that is fully semi automatic?
I just can't put a finger on it, but I find myself in the same situation as well. My J Frame 340PD is with me more than any of my other firearms. It's just easy to grab and go. I know, it's only 5 rounds, but I think of my carry handgun as a tool to get out of a situation, not to end a gunfight. I know many may disagree, but I shoot double action better due to how much I practice, so I am just more comfortable with having a revolver on my person than any other firearm I own. YMMV, for sure. Thanks!
I went through the whole gauntlet of carry options that were all some type of magazine fed pistols. I found the little j frame Airweight to be incredibly snappy so I dismissed it. However, I went to the range with one of my brother in law’s and he showed me a particular way to grip his j frame and it really helped me handle the recoil. Now all I carry is the S&W 642 in my pocket or I carry a second one if I’m feeling it.
The main thing he told me was to use the grip and don’t try to get high up like you would with an auto. If that makes sense. . Also, when using a two handed grip you should push forward with your dominant hand and pull back with your other hand.
In a scenario where you actually fire your weapon in self defense you are responsible for every round that you shoot. Spray and pray is off the table. Look, if you expect a running gun battle with three cartel hit men then a large cap semi auto is the only way to go but if you are going to Costco, autozone and the supermarket you are quite well armed with a revolver if you are proficient with one. Yes, reloads are slower but if you are missing five or six times maybe you shouldn’t be busting caps to begin with. But everything is not for everybody, carry what feels good to you as long as you have your training and range time in.
I love 1911 in 45, learned on the platform. Later a 38/357 revolver was my consent. A 5 shot 3" 38/357 became my choice, it's simplicity and reliability has served well. Mariage and kids also learned to use it.
Yes I was testing a czp07 last weekend. The trigger bar spring chose to come back at my head. Btw that leaves a dead trigger when that spring comes out. I have never in 45+ years of shooting revolvers ever had one to chunk a spring at me and leave me with a dead trigger. Not so interested in changing handguns any more
Actually you should always carry the gun you shoot the best with. I have a S&W model 66, p226, p229, and Glock 26 and for me the semi autos fell better in my hands than the revolver, altho I can shoot the revolver pretty good but in double action my hands struggle a bit.

Yep. Backup always been a wheelie. If I have to go to my backup then things are up close and personal. May I ask what you pistol choices are for those? I usually have a S&W 642 on the ankle and Glock 21 or Glock 30 in the holster
What about a LCR or as I have an LCRx in 9mm. The moon clips are not as hardy and you need to range test for “crimp creep,” but you have a small revolver…know Ruger LCRs not you favorite, Thanks sir!
@@kyrozudesoya1829 I also have a 22 Mag revolver that I carry in a Nemesis pocket holster or just J frame as it is a S&W 351PD. .22 Mag is no slouch and can get the job done so I agree with you.
If semiautomatics are better then why do they have to put so much effort into trying to convince other people they should carry one 🤔 If I need 18 rounds I’m going to grab a rifle not a pistol and if I find myself randomly in situations that require a rifle then the conversation we really need to be having is about the state of our union not what’s in my pocket…
This is my thought: I have tried both. Even though carrying a revolver definately feels classic but plastic is (at this time period when ammo for the revolver is way more expensive than the 9mm or 45 or even 40) lets just say "more bang for your buck". More time behind the gun to become confident, more trigger time, lighter and less bulky (its not like the revolver is too bulky, no, I dont feel the revolver is too bulky over a plastic) I always go back to carry a plastic based on todays financial environment, more better holster options, also lighter recoil and faster trigger pull. Also aslo because I havent strated my journey with a revolver so to be honest my system is a little biased towards the plastic. The last thing is a revolver with a good smooth and reliable action costs way more than a plastic with good trigger. So compared to the revolver the plastic is way more suitable in every aspect.
First began shooting my J frame back in 2006, and back then 38 special was the same price or just a dollar more per box than 9 mm, like in the 14 to $15 range, but since then times have changed, With revolver ammo now double in price, I checked it out just now on a website and this is what i saw: This is the price per round: 9mm - 22-25c 40 acp - 38 -43 c 45 acp - 42-47 c 38 SPL - 47-50c I own a 22 revolver and also an MP 15 in 22 caliber, so shooting those keeps the prices down, but the fact that 38 revolver ammo is now double that of 9 mm, I may consider buying a semi even though I love the revolver platform
I see there are 9mm revolvers. I think modern day 9mm ammo is better than regular 38? Maybe not the +p stuff. I carry a Ruger sp101 snubby 357 but load it with 38s. She's a handful
442 is my always gun. 1911 is about %80 of the time. Sometimes both. I carry what I love not what some tacticool douche on RUclips tells me what I need lol.
If I felt I needed more than a 6 shooter I’d consider moving to a different neighborhood. It’s tough to beat the practicality of striker fired guns but they are incredibly soulless and boring to me.
This may be a Fudd thing to say but I am so sick of these new plastic wonder 9s. I watch a lot of RUclips gun reviews and everyone has some fancy 9mm plastic gun with a red dot and they all are ugly and have no character to me. Plus I had bad time with my S&W Shield 40 i had back in the day it was unreliable. I'm a revolver guy through and through
I am a subscriber of a Police channel here on YT and I cannot count the number of times I have witnessed auto's fail to fire when an officers life is on the line. Six for sure is often the way to go... not always, but maybe most often for civilian carry.
A happy medium for me who people categorize as fudd. But I believe if you want to carry a Glock 19 with a 30 round magazine and it’s legal in your area go for it. My happy medium is my S&W 3913 it’s aged well. It’s DA/SA I even added a regular hammer on it. 9 shots of 9 mm. However the Sig P365 (which was readily available in Massachusetts when I lived there). Has replaced my j frame when I need that level of concealment.
I'm hardheaded when it comes to firearm. I don't do electronic sights, I don't think a person has to have 30 rounds of ammo on them daily and I don't believe that having a 5 shot revolver is antiquated. I carry a M&P shield gen 1 9mm, 8+1. It's lighter than my 9mm or 45 1911's.
you might have shot the Glock better because of the grip and not so much the action. some of those wide body grips cause you to grip the gun a little off center. the single stacks I shoot well. the glock being plastic allows it to have a smaller grip circumfrance.
I'm with you brother. I prefer SA, DA/SA or a revolver actions over striker. I guess that I'm old fashioned in my firearm preferences.
