I find it kinda odd how Robbie being genuinely creepy around his female cohorts is played up for laughs. Despite that, I found their interactions very cute. Robbie always seemed affectionate towards Cat specifically, and if he had more character development they'd be one of the best couples in the show.
I can admit Robbie can come off a social awkward even though I love him, I don’t think he knows how to express or confess to females despite becoming more confident later on
He's definitely creepy towards her, and I think they played it for laughs because of Dan Schneider, considering the truly disgusting and traumatizing things he did, he probably made it like that so we wouldn't notice the nastiness of it.
I also feel like the oddly placed laugh tracks are deliberate. It's the show trying to be self-aware and saying "hey, this is written to be funny, and here's a laugh track. We know you are not laughing along, let's ask ourselves why?" I"ve always felt like Victorious is meant to be social satire of growing up and high school and by extension, celebrity culture and how it warps the way teenagers think and feel. Maybe I'm going to deep, but as someone who has a degree in film, I've always believed that creators can do whatever they want, and it is us, the audience, and the way we choose to react to a piece of work, that shows us who we truly are as people.

Mmmmm while the 'pirate' game does sound alarming, I don't think its as bad as we think it is since Jade knows about it as well and I feel like if Robbie had done something really bad Jade would have been angrier with him so he was probably just being kind of weird and Cat didn't like it but that's just my thoughts lol
That’s a valid argument. I might just be projecting onto the character, but maybe she downplayed it? Or maybe she begged Jade not to get mad or get him in trouble? I know that that’s what I’ve done when things like that happen to me. It feels less scary to just ignore the problem and not involve any authority figures or anything. But, once again, self-projection can be common with fictional characters that we relate to/liken ourselves to, so this might just be me projecting.
I thought about the sexual component too but I honestly feel like it's more likely that he just played (literally played the game) too rough, and scared her. And I also think that while there are a lot of double antandres (cannot spell) the thing about "I don't want to see that thing again" was not sexual. Man probbakt has a dead beetle collection or something.

Too many kids shows involve the boy wearing the girl down and ignoring her disinterest several times. And the boy is characterised as someone that can’t help it & is just geeky/awkward instead of invasive and disrespectful of someone’s boundaries. It completely sends the wrong message.

It really sucks that a lot of shows try to teach little boys that that’s okay, and an acceptable way to get what you want.

When a man is relentless in pursuing a woman, it is portrayed as comically pathetic and even endearing. When a woman is relentless in pursuing a man, she is portrayed as not right in the head. That woman is usually hated by everyone. Since the woman, who relentlessly pursues a man is usually ugly, her actions are usually played for gross out humor. I call this trope the Abhorrent admirer.

0:25 Hints? It is pretty much directly stated. In season 4 episode 2 "Hambone King" Bobbie and Cat meet a guy at Nozu and the dude mistakenly believes that Cat is Robbie's girl. If I remember correctly, this guy was rude and disrespectful to Cat. Robbie corrects they guy. After Robbie points out that Cat is not his girl, he turns to her and says "unless you wanna be." Cat says "I'm good." Then, if I recall correctly, Robbie defends Cat's honor. That's how I remember it.
Hence why he said many hints not that it wasn't directly stated.

Cat is one of those characters that gets attracted to Robbie for having the balls to ask her out but she is too embarrassed of it because Robbie is seen as a loser.

Sh likes him one on one when he's more confident and less anxious. She hates him at school, where his anxiety makes him overplay all his worst traits.
I was friends with some of the annoying kids in my grade and outside of school, It was really fun hanging out with them. At school they couldn't relax.
Cat does reciprocate Robbie's affection for her. Robbie is the least reasonable of all of the main characters.
This is kind of off-topic, but would you consider making a video on how the show SHOULD HAVE ended? The show was cancelled and didn't have a proper finale, so what do you think would happen in a perfect VICTORIOUS finale special/movie.
I always thought it would have been nice if, at the end of the show, Trina discovered that she's not talented and had to learn to accept that and grow from that.
I also thought it would have been nice to see certain characters get together. For example, I also like the idea of Jade and Andre and wish the show went somewhere with the Andre-has-a-crush-on-Jade plot. ;) It would have been cute if there was a scene where Andre sings the original version of "365 Days" (i.e. the version in which he sings "Jade" instead of "Baby") and Jade chimes in mid-song, singing Tori's parts. I also like Cat and Robbie, Tori and Beck, Trina and Sinjin.
I remember him saying something about the gang having to battle a gang like their's but from Northridge and then Trina being the one who has to battle them on a live
i would've really liked to see tori and andre have a little bit of a relationship. while i did like their platonic friendship, they most definitely could've grown as partners. whenever andre had a problem he would almost ALWAYS go to tori, same for tori.
I recently wrote some scenes with Trina and sinjin in them. I thought i was the only one. I started to ship them after sinjin defended Trina to the group. Sinjin was not always bad. Why did the creator have to make almost all the guys creepy? Wait, don’t answer that.

My head cannon is that cat gets too involved in her imagination. Like one episode she makes finger guns then says "don't worry, they're not real". I think when they play pirates, it becomes too real for cat, and she freaks out.
In my head cannon, they are a good couple. I feel if it were not for dan schendier’s writing, we would not being seeing these problematic and perverted men.
I can see how some may see them as a bad couple, but i feel they would always be there for each other and have a mature friendship and relationship. Even victoria justice has them get married in her script for the victorious finale.
To be honest, in my scripts i take rex and the perverted nonsense out of it.

I am a strong Cabbie fan. They are both immature weirdos and flaws and all, they are funny, caring and sweet to each other in an earnest way. They will forever be my favorite characters/ship in Victorious.

Just found out that in the song 5 fingaz to the face there was a line: "I'm a pirate and you're my booty, arg". And in a later episode, when Cat and Trina were singing this song in a car, it was Cat's turn to sing that line and she refused and said it was dirty.

2:41- 3:07 Cat was obviously conflicted. She did not want to go to the dance with Robbie, but was mad when he went with Gabriella. She claimed to be happy for Robbie (to his face) but then let out her anger when she was alone. I am impressed by Cat's ability to contain emotions. While that is not the best attitude to have, your actions matter significantly more (in the grand scheme of things) than your thoughts. That being said, I do not think that Cat really did anything wrong.

If you ask me, as the series went on, Robbie's feeling towards Cat seemed to get more genuine and less a nerdy guy liking a pretty girl who is out of his league. And at the same time, Robbie seems to dial back his creepy / Inappropriate behaviour.
I agree. And honestly I have a thing for nerdy guys so if these were real people I would be much quicker to date Robbie instead of Beck or Andre.

It deeply disturbs me how Cats voice progressively became more infantilized as the series went on. In the beginning of the first season she sounds normal but for the rest... it bad
1:48- 2:05 Two things...
1. That was a great innuendo. I am not even sure I can call it an innuendo. Innuendos are supposed to be subtle. That was not subtle at all.
2. Why did Robbie and Cat give the thugs their Pajelehoochos? Initially, Robbie did not want to and then Cat reminded them of the deal that they made with Sikowitz. However, when they made that deal, Sikowitz cited an exception for anything dangerous or illegal.
I suppose one alternative explanation could be that they were afraid the thugs might hurt them (i.e. physically assault them). However, putting aside the fact that Robbie initially did not want to and Cat specifically said that they have to because of the deal that they made with Sikowitz, Cat and Robbie could have just retreated.
I love how gracefully she picked up the chair before violently throwing and destroying it.

Cat and Robbie both have their own issues to deal with. Putting those two together would be unhealthy for either one of them, for Cat in particular. A romantic relationship between them would be toxic...

If Robbie was less creepy and perverted, or if he worked on those to better himself, they would've been great together. Though, he's obviously done something to upset Cat enough for her to hate "playing pirates" with him, which creeps me out a lot. Taking that into consideration, I don't think they'd be a healthy couple if Robbie continued to act like that and upset Cat a lot.

There's this one channel that talked about Robbie specifically saying that he and Rex are the same person, which might make sense, but at the same time, it doesn't seem possible. The two are so different from each other. When they're alone, it feels like Robbie is talking to a real person.

While I agree with most of this, I don't think the pirate thing was anything sexual, Jade knew about it and she's very protective of Cat, if it would've been anything bad she wouldn't have let it pass...
Knowing jade, She would probably torment Robbie until death if he did touch cat inappropriately.
The show's infantilisation of cat paired with robbie's predatory comments and innapropriateness leaves me with a really gross feeling... Their dynamic is far more reminiscent of a child and their abuser than two teenagers romantically interested in eachother.
Most of my observations have been covered in the comments, but i would like to draw attention specifically to the fact that cat's refusal of her feelings for him could (with the 'pirate' thing's hints at sexual assault) be because part of her feels like that means she must have liked what he did to her- and thus, she can't have feelings for him because that would invalidate her trauma. It is a very common response in survivors of sexual assault or abuse to develop feelings, especially in one where the assaulter in question is so affectionate and their age. They justify the event and trick themselves into believing it was something they should be happy about, convincing themselves that they are the ungrateful ones. Robbie's behaviour and overt favouritsm of cat, as much as it may be genuine from his point of view, is a method of grooming and attempting to coerse her into positive feelings of him. Showering people in gifts and compliments is often a response to guilt from the assaulter. They justify it to themselves as well, telling themselves theyre making up for it, or that their victim actually wanted it and is just shy.
It is extemely unhealthy, and honestly speaks volumes about dan schnider if we didnt already know, since he doubtlessly pulls from his own experiences for robbie. Robbie doesnt *care* if cat is uncomfortable. Or that she flat out rejects him so often. If anything, it wouldnt surprise me if he believes she belongs to him in some way when you consider how he has responded to romantic encounters previously. The idea of the only girl he has sexually advanced with, would create the kind of obsession we see he has with cat throughout the show. Which...explains even more in regards to smaller details, like how he brought cat to meet his grandmother in a way that he would most likely believe is very romantic and generous of him.
He is honestly a disgusting character, and if it weren't unintentional, i would commend the accuracy to real life sexually abusive situations. Unfortunately, the most accurate reflections of the darker side of humanity often come from perpetrators themselves.
I have a video idea for you! You briefly mentioned in your seddie video the relationship between freddie and his mom and how it shaped his personality, but perhaps you could do a further analysis on her. Do you think ms benson is too overprotective/a helicopter parent, is she acting as a normal concerned mother who means well or is she bordering toxic behavior by trying to control so much of his life. I hope that you’re right, but even so, it is still kind of a red flag that both she and Jade have made it abundantly clear that she doesn’t like to play pirates with him because it’s upsetting, and yet he still carries on offering to play pirates again, even going so far as to get and eyepatch for it. I don’t know, though, it just is kind of off-putting that he wouldn’t respect her enough to not do something that upsets her so much, you know?
Man this stuff is a lot darker than I remember. But tbh, I don’t think Robbie was necessarily a bad person. He just had no clue how to communicate romantic feelings in a healthy way.

I think he had most character development. He was so weird when it came to love, sometimes the interactions felt more like assault. But it seems like he changed and now isn’t that bad although he still isn’t perfect when it comes to love, but I think it’s because he doesn’t really have a proper example, since his parents are hardly mentioned and his mom refuses to even live with him
Also in season 1 ep.6 when Cat and Trina were rapping a song in the car cat stopped and refused to sing the next line because it was 'dirty' and then later on in season 3 ep.8 in the party bus they were singing a song called '5 fingers to the face' which was the same rap song that cat and Trina were singing in the car but the version they did was acapella, the line that cat said was 'dirty' was actually the words "I'm a pirate and you're my booty,arg" so this probably means that she thought the word 'booty' was a swear word or a dirty word. So when Robbie would play pirates with her, he would probably do something dirty to her, and also maybe she thought pirates was a bad thing because of what Robbie would do.

I believe that Rex was entirely behind the whole pirate thing. I know Robbie controls Rex, but I think Rex is just how Robbie communicates things he can’t implement elsewhere. If anything happened with pirates and Cat, I believe it started with Robbie being Rex. With that being said, I also don’t think the pirate thing was anything major. If it was, I doubt Jade, beck, or Andre would let Robbie near Cat again. I’m guessing Cat just didn’t like how Robbie played pirates, simple as that.

I'm impressed by the amount of realism in Robbie's "nice guy" character. They usually portray the geek dude as this cliché lovable loser type
I feel like Jori and Cabbie are the most complicated ships from the show but Jori is less problematic in a way. I was a big Cabbie fan untill I watched hariyanna's hook opinion vid about Robbie and I realised how creepy he really is so I have mixed feelings about the ship now. If it wasn't for that pirates thing I would be 100% for this ship. I found the I think you are swell scene and when he told Cat that any guy would be lucky to go out with her relatable to myself and my experience with feelings so ye. That scenes were adorable but is a complicated relationship in more than one way.

I’m pretty sure that it’s like just dressing up and playing pretend. But, the reason that it makes people uncomfortable is because it seems like Robbie uses the “pretend” aspect, and the sexual harass-y nature of real pirates as an excuse to do things that Cat is uncomfortable with/traumatized by. It may not even be just something that’s blown out of proportion, since Jade gets protective of Cat over the way that Robbie “plays” pirates. But, I don’t know; that’s just the way some of us see it. We could be wrong, but it just doesn’t feel okay, it feels creepy and off. I don’t know, though.

i've been thinking about robbie's character and i think that honestly, he's probably too traumatized from the bullying and neglect from classmates, friends and teachers and most likely has had a really bad/traumatizing childhood and his hormonal and really messed up head doesn't know how to deal with his emotions. he needs extreme therapy!!!!
I like s1 and 2 Cat I don't hate Cat in s3 but the show shoulda kept Cat like she was in the start and somewhat grow her character.
Yeah they were totally infantilizing her in later seasons which honestly rubbed me the wrong way. She was more of a ditzy and bubbly teenaged girl earlier in the show but she just got more annoying towards the end.

omd yes, i noticed that (in Sam and Cat) both seem to mature quite a bit when around one-another. Sam stops being so selfish and is a lot more adult and rational (whereas she used to rely on others quite a bit in icarly) and Cat stops being so sensitive and almost bipolar (prior to Sam and Cat, she couldn't take criticism or jokes well at all, and would immediately get extremely offended and mad over little things that most would ignore).

Like, do you guys remember LITERALLY THE SECOND EPISODE when Sam reconstructed a whole sitcom set because it already hurt her to see Cat so upset?? Like, she had literally known this girl for, like, three days(?), and she was already sweeter to her than most anyone else I’ve seen her with, except for Carly, maybe, though I do think that Carly and Sam are more platonic than Sam and Cat. But, like, I think that it almost scares Sam how immediately, and how much she cares for Cat. That’s why I think she sometimes acts weird about Cat touching her, when she’s aware of it. But, if you notice, throughout the series when they’re in a situation where they need comfort, they’ll often hold hands or grab each other’s arms, or things like that, despite how Sam acts sometimes. I feel like Cat gives Sam someone to protect and be close to, especially after being alone for so long. She might also put up walls because she’s afraid of being hurt again. She really cared about Carly, and loved her like family, so when Carly had to move away, it showed Sam just how much it can hurt when you genuinely and deeply care about someone, and they can no longer be in your life the way that you want/need them to be. So, I feel like she’s sometimes “mean”(still nowhere near regular Sam-level mean, though) and/or distant to Cat because she feels herself starting to love Cat(in any capacity, whether it starts romantically or not) and the life that they share. Sam was willing to go to prison so that Cat would be safe(#MagicATM). She didn’t hurt Cat at all, or even emotionally berate her, after Cat lost Sam’s motorcycle, even though it’s one of her most prized possessions(#MotorcycleMystery)(
@@thatoneperson8593 100% agree, their relationship is so wholesome and is one of the healthiest in the icarly/victorious/Sam and Cat universe imo. they've both obviously undergone horrible and traumatic experiences and clearly weren't very lucky in life, so their relationship seems like their chance to move on and heal. as the saying goes, the relationships u've built throughout your lives are far stronger than ones formed purely of familial ties, and (given their unfortunate familial circumstances) it's almost as if they're building that whole new family and growing as people. I think this is reinforced by how they often act out the "old married couple" trope, and I honestly wish this is an aspect of Sam and Cat that would've been explored more (obviously it's a sitcom for preteens, so I'm not saying it fails in not doing so, just that that's the most intriguing part of the show for me).

It would honestly be super cool to see an analysis on them and how their backgrounds and such lead them to being just the right people to help each other grow. I’d ask Jay if he could, but I don’t know how much interest there would be in the video. Like, sometimes I feel like people don’t give Sam and Cat the love that it deserves. I mean, there were for sure things that they could’ve done differently, or what have you, but I thought that they did a good job with what they had, since it seemed that their target audience was just a little younger than Victorious’ target. But, I feel like a lot of the deeper themes, or at least semi-deeper themes could’ve been explored if the audience’s age range was closer to Victorious’. Like, we were so cheated with #YayDay. There wasn’t even necessarily a resolution, and thus, we missed an opportunity for deeper character bonds. Like, imagine how touching it would’ve been for Cat to have gone to any length to get the jacket back, because she’s so moved by Sam’s confession and heartfelt gift. And then we could see Sam finally let her guard down a little bit more and not feel rejected because of what happened at the party. It felt really out-of-character for Cat to not even try to get the jacket back(at least not explicitly or onscreen). It would’ve been so touching, and it could’ve had a lesson for its younger audience, as well! I don’t know, I’m still a little bitter about how that one ended😂😂. But, yeah! I think that they have something that’s really special, and with this new age of older teens going back, watching their childhood shows and recognizing new ships and sharing them and stuff like that, I’m surprised that more people aren’t talking about Sam and Cat!
