      especially because it implies that Robbie subconsciously has some level of omnipotence. because sometimes when Rex is left alone, when Robbie comes back and picks him up, Rex reveals details that Robbie shouldn’t be able to know because he wasn’t there. I like the idea that Rex is an extension of Robbie’s mind, but Robbie has some sort of deep psychological intuition that is almost superhuman

    • @latedawnsearlysunsets
      @latedawnsearlysunsets 7 месяцев назад +45

      it does seem more fun but I’d like to make a note that “split” personalities is 1. an outdated description (DID is more modern and respectful) 2. DID doesnt behave like this the personalities do not manifest through objects they are fragments of a whole personality so they are real if rex is not real then it’d be a delusion which would mean that robbie could have schizophrenia or is schizoaffective at the least

      Completely agree. Why would a mentally stable Robbie walk around with this sentient separate being who constantly bullies him? The concept that it's Robbie roasting himself through Rex is much more compelling and hilarious. We all have that negative voice in our heads.. Robbie just has taken it to another level by personalizing it.

  • @finpin2622
    @finpin2622 8 месяцев назад +270

    I want to note that “multiply personality disorder”, known more modernly as DID, is different than psychosis. If we were arguing that Robbie has psychosis, his beliefs about Rex would be more easily explained as a delusion. Rather than Rex being an alter, Robbie experiences complex delusions that he and other puppets are sentient. That could explain why he claims Rex does things without him, because he genuinely believes it despite evidence to the contrary.
    From a quick Wikipedia dive I’d say this would be a case of delusional companion syndrome. This is “most often identified in patients who suffer from damage to the brain due to physical trauma, neuronal degeneration or developmental abnormalities”, and focuses on comfort objects like toys. In one case, a mother who lost custody of her children experienced delusional companion syndrome with a baby doll, and even took this doll to the hospital because she was concerned for its health.
    With delusions like this, it is actually a bad idea to try to force the sufferer to acknowledge that their delusions arent true (or “reality check” them) because it will just cause further agitation and by the nature of a delusion, you’re not going to be able to convince them.
    … Anyways, that’s just an interesting tidbit if you were convinced of the psychological side. I think it is funnier to consider Rex as partially real, and less depressing, but Victorious is a weirdly depressing show overall if you think about any of the characters personally lives for too long.

    • @22dallas1
      @22dallas1 8 месяцев назад +32

      Thank you for the explanation behind the disorder. I really do think that Rex is Robbie, and I feel like it’s more interesting that way.

    • @saphire1sababy378
      @saphire1sababy378 8 месяцев назад +21

      I made a comment similar to this, but speaking on the side of DID , and how it’s not psychosis and validating the realness of rex as a person (not the physical puppet but that he infact does exist) is not damaging and would be helpful for someone with DID because the majority of therapy for DID is building connections between host and alter(s)

    • @finpin2622
      @finpin2622 8 месяцев назад +18

      @@saphire1sababy378 For sure, that's true as well. If it was DID, I think it would still have some elements of delusion (ie, believing the puppet is real and can move on it's own), but either way acknowledging his existence wouldn't be a bad thing. Also, some of his behaviors could be explained as having a role of "persecutor" in their system.

    • @theoddgoats9660
      @theoddgoats9660 2 месяца назад +5

      I'm really glad to see people talking about the reality of DID, as a system myself, it was EXTREMELY painful to listen to Robbie and Rex, and DID for that matter to be explained in the way that they were, and ESPECIALLY painful to have the movie Split be brought up as an example of DID when the movie is famously known for being horribly inaccurate and a complete stigmatization of DID as a condition. I could support the idea of Rex being a persecutor in the system that would be Robbie (Robbie being used to refer to the system as a whole, as well as Robbie as the obvious host), and it is quite possible that the presence of Rex's puppet physical presentation both aligns with how Rex as an alter views himself, and acts as a physical trigger for Rex the alter to front (be present and active in the consciousness). It is also possible that Rex as an alter is an introject of Rex the puppet! It's very common for alters to be based of of real world people and objects, especially those that bring the system as a whole comfort. I say system as a whole because the entire system is an individual, just an individual who has multiple facets created by amnesic barriers that don't allow some of those facets to access certain memories (mainly memories that bring stress) to separate a host (especially in a case like Robbie where Robbie the alter and Rex the alter would be seen as co-hosts [yes, a persecutor can also be a host]) from the other alters would be like separating a head from the rest of the body. Ever alter is as part of the system and has as much ownership of the body as any other. Being a host does not indicate greater importance, nor does it make an alter more "real". Every alter is a real part of the system as an individual, and every alter has as much validity in being a part of the mind as any other! The idea of making a system believe one of their fellow headmates has died is horrific and would certainly cause more damage as it would be a traumatic experience, and DID is built on trauma. It is through repeated trauma that a system is created in the first place, and this trauma must take place before the ages of 7 to 9 as after this point, the conscious is theorized to meld into a single conscious, where as in childhood, the conscious is split! When it comes to identifying DID, always remember the defining factors:
      1. Repeated trauma before the age of 7 to 9
      2. Amnesiac barriers preventing the individual from remembering significant events, especially traumatic events, and especially large chunks of childhood
      3. Two or more defined personalities
      Also remember that DID is not the only disorder that has amnesic barriers and alters. There is also OSDD and all its types which is generally a lesser case of DID where alters are less defined and amnesiac barriers are not as strong. I could give more info on these from an outsider perspective on what little I remember, but I'll respect them as something separate and allow anyone with OSDD to define them if they feel comfortable doing so!
      I just wanna finish up by saying, I hope he sees these comments and either takes the effort to correct his misinformation, or at least removes the segment about Robbie and Rex being parts in a DID system so that people whi don't read comments don't spread this stigmatized view of an already very stigmatized disorder.
      And for anyone looking to talk about "endogenic systems"... TRAUMA IS THE ONLY WAY A SYSTEM CAN FORM!! So please don't try to tell me otherwise, thank you ❤

    The existence of the doll girl from Sam and Cat really helps the Rex is real debate imo. She was shown as just a doll that didnt move or anything from the viewers POV. When they took the doll to a concert the singer got mad and kicked them out cuz he said that the "creepy doll" kept showing up everywhere he went, at the end of the episode the doll became a girl. The Dan Schnieder universe had super heroes and super villains (one that even dresses up and pretends to be a baby) so a sentient doll isnt surprising.

    Btw multiple personality disorder is not a mental disorder. It was removed from the DSM and ICD and it was replaced with disassociated identity disorder(DID). Also DID is not a psychosis disorder. A psychosis disorder would be something like schizophrenia. A psychotic disorder is when the disorder messes with your perception of reality. DID does not change your perception of reality. Furthermore, if Robbie does have DID then he is missing a lot of the symptoms needed for a diagnosis. The only symptom he has is the appearance of multiple personalities. Robbie's symptoms align more with schizophrenia than DID.

    A funny head cannon is that a kid Robbie got Rex as a gift or was drawn to him at a flea market and either way promised a super nerdy loser Robbie that he could make him cool and popular if they promise to be “friends forever”
    And that seemed like a no brainer of a deal as thanks to him Robbie got into a super cool high school by pretending he has talent by fake a “performance” with Rex but luckily he got by in school as he has talent in the nerdier side of production like lights being originally friends with Sinjin but as he’s less gross he got in with the cool kids to help with their projects and maybe regular school stuff but Rex made him think it was down to him and if he got rid of him then Robbie would be friendless
    But his friendships grew especially with Beck and Cat so Rex has to bully Robbie to keep him thinking he still needs him
    But luckily his friends do eventually show him that he’s better without Rex and they should part (Tori made it take longer though) but when Rex was gone Robbie had better luck with Cat and was happier overall and still had all his friends showing that Rex was the loser all along and couldn’t even make good on his side of deal with Robbie giving him “life” as he knows less than Robbie about girls and what’s “cool”

    I see where you are coming from but I do feel that some of your points could just be because of Robbie wanting Rex to feel more real. For example, Robbie could just be saying that Rex has plans to make it seem like he has his own life. Robbie could have put Rex in Tori’s bag and made up the scenario of finding him. He could have just been fake sneezing for Rex. All of this could have just been made up within Robbie’s mind to make it more real to him.

    I don’t know if I’m overanalyzing this but for the interview portion, I’ve never watched the icarly version but I have seen the victorious version. Some people would say that Robbie is Dans self insert since he is pervy and creepy. So it wouldn’t be surprising that Rex would be the same since Robbie is the voice of Rex. Rex has a disdain for Jerry Trainor, which aligns with Dan as well. Jerry would always protect the icarly kids and get in the way of Dans perverted actions make his self insert and Jerry hate one another. Idk it’s all so weird. Also the fact that Rex is in love with Victoria Justice, which aligns with Dan as well because he might have thought that Vic would be making it big and he had an infatuation with all of the girls on set.

    Ngl- what if Rex decides to appear not real to everyone but Robbie to mess up Robbie even more? Like, “now everyone thinks you’re a loser AND insane”?? Definitely giving Robbie a harder time- as well as the whole “getting injured” thing- Rex knows Robbie cares about him, he could definitely play along with playing dead and what not, fully aware of the mentality of Robbie but also slightly aware of Tori, Cat, whoever- knowing Tori isn’t cruel enough to hurt Robbie by letting Rex “stay dead”, etc
    THAT seems like it makes the most sense, at least to me :))

    I went to a magic camp for young magicians. There was a guy who was 16 or 17 who carried around a puppet and constantly did ventriloquism with it. Everybody just sorta played along with it, so it kinda makes sense.

    i just want to say that for theory 1, Robbie wouldn’t have DID or formally known as “split personality disorder” he would have schizophrenia. This is because Robbie has hallucinations when not having Rex. Because people with DID, for one, don’t develop fully formed alters until their 30’s. also they don’t perceive their alters through inanimate objects.

      I agree for the most part with your comment, but where did you get the "alters can't fully developed until your in your 30's"? Everywhere I've looked it's saying it's different for every system, not to mention some have even claimed alters have come out fully formed before /gq /npa

    Idk, if rex is part of Robbie as an identity then it’s important that he’s able to communicate with rex and that rex is treated as a person, but if it’s psychosis that’s completely different- an imaginary person from a psychotic belief is very very different than a split personality- the treatments are very different too because DID and split personalities are actually all one person who’s brain wasn’t able to make the proper connections in childhood due to trauma, psychotic hallucinations is the brain malfunctioning and receiving improper signals-
    You heal from psychosis with medication for the most part, DID on the other hand is healed by building connections between the personalities

    I have a cool head cannon for Robbie.
    Basically he was bullied, hard, throughout school. Possibly by women primarily hence his misogyny. But either way he figured out the way to get the bullying to stop was to beat them to the punch, self deprecating humor so they were laughing with him not at him. Rex became his way to tell the jokes, and he essentially became a court Jester making the royals laugh and when he wasn’t funny he was back to the bullying. So Rex became a self defense mechanism, hence why he always panics whenever Rex isn’t at his side, and it got to the point that Robbie wasn’t even thinking about the things he made Rex said. Hence why he’ll sometimes seemed shocked at what Rex says or does, or even talk to Rex when no one else is around. Since to an extent he can talk to Rex, having a full conversation a bit.

    Actually I used to think that Rex was a separate entity, and he didn’t come from Robbie’s imagination, how ever Robbie was the only one who could actually speak with him through idk like mind waves or something, so though Robbie is ventriloquist-ing (pardon my English) for Rex it’s a way of Robbie basically translating Rex’s thoughts for others to hear..

    Rex represents who Robbie wishes he was. The reason Rex is mean to Robbie is because Robbie is insecure about himself and uses Rex as a way berate himself. So when red insults Robbe, it's really Robbie's ideal self berating his true self.

    My personal belief is a combination of the DID and the Alive version. Personally, I think that Robbie has a kind of latent knowledge or ability, whether he is aware of it or not, that brought Rex to life as an outside voice for Robbie's other main/most prevalent personality.
    Scenes where Rex is 'not real' are sort of like those parts where an alter is not present in the front/cofronting. The alter was out, so on some level, and on some occasions, Robbie was partially controlling Rex. But most of the time, it was the alter, Rex, possessing/controlling the puppet.
    Also, when Rex is 'off on his own', such as in the party example, or Rex making other plans, this could refer to other alters in the system, whether Robbie is aware that they are there or not. Perhaps Robbie doesn't know about the alters, and does think Rex is going out, but really, Rex is just going to move the puppet body and then have a night with another alter in the mind space. Or maybe Robbie does know, and is just peeved that Rex wants to hang out with other alters instead of him.
    As for Rex showing up less and less, I see this to mean that either Rex was a protective alter, and was needed less and less to shield Robbie, or Robbie's alter used to be a little, maybe a bit older of a little, like 10-11, and Rex was, still a protective alter, watching over him. But then the alter of Robbie grew up, either all at once or gradually, and Rex just wasn't needed to protect him.

    0:54 I just discovered your channel today and watched a few vids. Love the work you put into these. I just started this video. Less than 1 min in and I’m immediately reminded of professional ventriloquists who say that they consider their dummy or puppet real.
    Candace Bergen was a famous actress who played Murphy Brown in the 1990’s. Her father was a famous ventriloquist in the 1950’s and his puppet was treated as a member of their family. It had its own room and a seat at the table during mealtimes. The puppet was effectively her little brother.
    Performers will sometimes say that when they’re on stage with the puppet, and it’s time for them to change their voice to speak as the puppet, the ventriloquist will forget and just stare at the puppet waiting for it, the puppet, to talk and say it’s line. The ventriloquist will forget they’re just a doll and they speak for them. So weird. 🫢

    The vast majority of people prioritize unimportant and useless things if you hadn't noticed, at least you acknowledge the fact, thats respectable, you don't/can't have/do anything particularly helpful (which is untrue for all bigger youtubes for example yet they choose to not use their influence to help except a select few) so you make this, that makes logical sense, unlike the hundreds of millions to billions of people who focus on unimportant/useless things yet have the wealth influence or general power to do something about it, for example I have none of the 3 so I can only hope for an opportunity to arise

    My theory is, if we do the all the shows are connected theory, that Robbie has a superpower. Since shows like henry danger and the thundermans exist i like to imagine that Robbie's power is that whenever he puts his hand in a puppet it becomes sentient but because he is in one of the normal shows everyone just thinks he's crazy.
