Looking back, there are a worrying amount of abusive family jokes in these shows. Sam's mother is Lifetime levels of horrible, Freddie's mom is uncomfortably overbearing and Cat's whole family is a mess
And the way holly Vega neglect her kids & they just laugh if off is truly disturbing

i grew up in an abusive household and i’m pretty sure part of the reason i didn’t use to think it was a big deal is because of the jokes in these shows 🙁

@@clairedixon5471 I wouldn’t say I had a similar experience but I would say that jokes in children’s television need to be more careful because it can affect the way a child thinks even when it’s not intending to be harmful. A random example that I would say affected me was that trope where the kids are disrespectful to their parents and family for a joke which made me think that it’s normal and funny to be rude to my own family.

In the end, though, I'm really glad he's going in a new direction. It shows confidence and power
Lane is a difficult character to analyze, as he usually acts more like a plot device than he does an actual character.
Lane’s primary purpose, in pretty much every episode in which he appears, is to act as a guidance counselor. He seems competent at that. In the pilot episode, this was one of the most disturbing innuendos of the series, Lane protects Tori from some boys who he suspects might have predatory intentions. In “Who did it to Trina” Trina has a horrible accident that causes her injuries, during a play. The cause of this accident is Trina’s harness breaking. Initially, it seems as though it was just an accident, until Lane discovers evidence that someone may have cut Trina’s gimbal. Suspecting that either Tori, Cat, Andre or Jade may have been involved, he interrogates them. In the end, Lane decides that it was probably just an accident, resulting from the rigging equipment being old. Lane assumes that it was an accident and all the kids are exonerated. Later, during a conversation that Robbie has with Rex, we find out that what happened to Trina was no accident. Lane was proven correct. Lane appears to be a competent guidance counselor.

@@julianbigelow2794 I think he also referring to The Wood when Tori and Jade actually destroyed Festus's car instead of the junk car that was used for the fake shoot and when Lane and Festus find out, Lane kicks the production crew for The Wood out of Hollywood Arts, the producer refuses but Lane threatens to attack them with a golf club if they refuse.
In the episode “Jade Dumps Beck '' we learn that Beck lives in an RV parked in his parents driveway. As it turns out, this is because he would have to live by his parents’ rules if he lived under their roof. His roof, his rules. It is obvious that he has some problems with his parents. Whether that is his fault or his parents’ is unclear. Beck at least talks to his parents, a lot of people never talk to their parents. The parents have access to Beck’s RV. Therefore, it doesn’t seem like Beck’s relationship with his parents is horrible. It is heavily implied that Beck’s parents don’t like Jade. It is possible that Beck may have dated Jade in the first place, just to spite his parents, i.e. get revenge against them. That is just speculation, I do not know for sure if that is true.
I always got that vibe too. These kids just didn’t have healthy relationships with their parents. Which may be why Beck didn’t like Jade much in the first season. He did it out of spite, not love. But they grew ig

Let me tell you my overall impression of David Vega.
Though he usually acts as a plot device, not so much as a character, he appears to be a caring father. He is very protective of his daughters. In “Freak the Freak Out Part 1” David breaks up a fight between Tori and Trina. In that same episode, David is noticeably worried about a boy taking advantage of Trina.
David sometimes neglects his daughters, but not quite to the extent that Holly does.
On that note, here is my impression of Holly.
She is clearly lacking in common sense, she can sometimes neglect her daughters, this is shown in the episode “Driving Tori Crazy.” Despite Holly’s occasional tendency to neglect her daughters, she does seem to love and care about them. In “Robarazzi” and “The Worst Couple” we see Holly being nurturing toward Tori. Holly and David clearly favor Tori over Trina.
If I had to compare David to Holly and pick one of them as my favorite, I would definitely favor David. This is for a few reasons. One, David is a more involved parent. Holly tends to stay out of it, which is a euphemism for neglecting her kids. Two, it is hinted that Holly may have had an affair with David’s partner Gary.

I feel like your rant at the end there was ramped up for comic relief but it's gotta have some truth embedded in it somewhere. I'll love whatever video you make Jay! People don't understand that topics need to all have an end eventually. There's only so much content you can do on 1 show. I found you through a friend sending me your video on Nathan, and I thought it was brilliant so I stayed and watched your other content. I watch videos about the Nick characters because I grew up on them too, and I think it’s awesome that you aren’t trying to do something just because other people want you to. I get really tired of people trying to make scary theories about kid’s shows. It has its audience and it’s place, and I’m sure many of those creators are awesome, but I’m glad you didn’t try to go that route since you didn’t want to. Excited to see what you’ll do next.

I haven’t been watching this channel for all that long, but I absolutely love the way you construct your videos! Theories are wonderful don’t get me wrong, but it’s very refreshing to see someone pick apart characters of nostalgic shows and use actual analysis/evidence to unravel their layers! I totally agree though: as fun as it is to analyze, it’s important to just enjoy a kids show at face value! The writers didn’t necessarily sit down to create the-core-of-the-earth-deep characters!
