To all the theatre people telling me that Beck HAD to kiss Tori because you never say no in improv. Here are a few things Beck could have said instead of "Let's do it":
1) "Let's kiss with our feet like my alien race does" *kicks Tori's feet awkwardly*
2) "Lips are on my hands" *comically presses hands against Tori's face*
3) "Lightly on my head, please" *Tori kisses his forehead*
4) "Let's grab some dinner first" (still continues the scene without saying no...yeah he's dying but what ever)
5) "Lady, you'd only take my breath away" (get it? cause he's dying from Earth's air?)
6) *Beck kisses Tori's HAND then says* "Lovely"
7) Literally anything guys, there are so many other options! Stop defending the guy, he didn't have to kiss Tori's lips. 😂

@@carmendublin.1779 I think it's because Jade doesn't find Cat intimidating. However, Tori came out of nowhere and became basically the most popular person (always being the lead in performances, everyone going to her house to hang out, etc.)

@@nikolaimaharaj2319 I may not be a brown guy, but I am a brown girl. One that had to grow up with brown people being ridiculed on media all the time. Beck was the first brown guy I saw on TV who didn’t have to play the “funny foreign friend”. He got to play the hot guy who was well liked instead.
@@adafm8392 oh based on your profile pic I thought you were a white girl, that's why I was a bit confused, well idk where you live but I live in a country called Trinidad in the Caribbean that has about 1.3 million people and Indians here make up like 38% so we make up a big number but still live among people of other races and I guarantee you the negative social stereotypes of Indian men and just Indian people in general over here are non-existent, most of us have style, confidence and are there's a sort of player stereotype about us (this is by Western standards btw) I genuinely grew up thinking of brown guys as being cool guys, not weird awkard nerds, I think it has to do with being settled down and integrated, most of the Indians in America seem to be 1st & 2nd gens, cuz I've seen many different people online say that brown people are perceived so differently in the UK & Canada and when you look at it they've been there longer and make up bigger percentages so maybe that's why, where are you from?
@@nikolaimaharaj2319 Aaaaand that’s why we shouldn’t make any assumptions 😂 But I understand. I live in the Caribbean too! Puerto Rico to be exact. Most of the media we consume is American, so growing up I would see a lot of negative stereotypes towards Brown people in Film and TV. Even in children’s content. Plus the colorism in the island did not help. When I first started using makeup I would buy it shades lighter to look white 💀 I’m glad I’ve overgrown that phase and learned to love my skin and where it comes from 🙌🏽
@@adafm8392 oh lol well cool to find a fellow Caribbean person on here and yh from what I understand Puerto Rico is pretty different from the rest of the Caribbean cuz you guys are a territory of America or something like that and they don't have much experience with brown indian people so they'll just base their thoughts on us from what they see in the media, thing is here in Trinidad we consume pretty much all there is of American media too but it's like the stereotypes don't work against us cuz we've been here since the 1800's and people know us better than that from just having personal experiences with so many of us, we're just seen as normal folk and good to know that you've overcome that phase you went through, I can relate as well, I genuinely think it's sad that colorism is a thing, it's a topic that's on my mind on a regular basis, I hope it only continues to get better for people in general soon

For me, Beck was the glue that held the whole group together. I'm not sure there would be many actual friendships within that group if it wasn't for Beck. He was always fixing the problems in the relationships of the other characters but we rarely saw the problems in his. I think that led to a lack of development in his character and lack of story-telling for him, his whole purpose was to bond the other characters together, which is honestly quite sad.
The most heated situations he was put in were those “break up with Jade” episodes.
Beck actually steps up a lot throughout the series to help, a lot of the time we see it with Tori as she's the main character but he's the one that Cat hides behind, the one that Andre and Robbie go to if they need help and generally who each of the Hollywood arts crew talks to if they have problems.

I don’t think anyone says that he carries the show. They would only say that if they wanted to take that away from Tori. Honestly, I felt like it was a mix of Tori,Jade and Andre for the big time contributors, then I have Cat on the B-List and everyone else like Trina,Robbie,Beck,Sinjin are equal or worse

@@activitine62 I always say that to people that think that Cat should’ve been the main character of Victorious. Singing was a part of Victorious, but only a part. That’s not the only thing they did. It was nice that she could sing, but considering they already had Victoria as a “singer”, that’s not why they hired her. She is a side actress that got casted for a side character, and she played a mighty good side character. Sam and Cat were written as side characters so it wasn’t going to work out.

It still annoys me at how underused Beck's character was. He was a cool, fun, attractive and multi-talented writer, actor, stuntman, and mechanic, but he was rarely ever used like anything more than a toy for Jade and Tori to fight over.
They shouldn't have to fight. Tori should know her limits. He is taken, she need to know that, and respect it

He was such a big player in the first 10 episodes, and it seemed like he was going to be so important. But after that, he just fell off a cliff.
They didn't know what to do with him because they started flanderizing the characters, and Beck was just the hot dude that everyone had a crush on which isn't a great basis for a caricature. It would be a basis for an interesting albeit flawed character, but that would require them to actually put effort into writing nuanced characters and take into consideration their reaction to how the world treats them, while also letting the show comment on that by creating realistic consequences.
The show was not about that though.

And I agree that André is a better Beck, but André even more in the background a lot of the time because they also didn't know what to do with him except play music.

I think it's fairly sweet how Beck covered Cat using his own body during the earthquake and Jade was okay with it.

@@growingupwithdisney i would also like to point out something about the wanko’s warehouse episode. notice how when tori says “EVERYONE COVER YOUR HEADS WITH BINS!” after cat runs through the lasers, trina yells “oh, great plan jade!” even tho tori is the one who said it...which could imply jade’s leadership...although this doesn’t make sense since the gang mostly dislikes trina and she didn’t associate herself with them until after tori joined and tori was technically kind of a leader after joining. heck, this is most probably just daniella messing up her line or getting confused and i’m probably thinking too deep into this lmaooo but it’s fun to think about

I feel like if that friend group had a different "leader" before she arrived then it had to have been Jade. Tori is very pretty and talented and Jade probably felt threatened. Cat is pretty and talented too but she's sweet and dumb and "basically a pet" (like Jade says).
We both know they changed Cat's character but initially she didn't seem popular either just like Robbie. But as the show went on, they made her more desirable, cute etc. They also made Jade more goth I guess?
Jade isn't goth. They just dyed her hair and made her meaner. She was a lot less normal after her hair was dyed. Idk how to explain it. She was always mean but her personality with the lighter hair just feels more like an actual person with more sides.

I wonder y Cat & Jade have such a strong friendship? When u think about it Jade will only stay at Cat’s house...no one else’s. Plus they have hung out so many times together outside of school. Jade is so stand off-ish & Cat is so bubbly but they r best friends. Jade will try to make Cat happy even when she doesn’t want to. Plus she can’t stand to see Cat cry. She doesn’t fight Cat when Cat asks her to do things with her or touching her...she kinda embraces it. Could u please analyze the friendship between Cat Valentine & Jade West?
I would also love to see an analysis on this! I'm guessing here, but I think part of it could be that deep down she appreciates how loving and accepting Cat is of Jade and that Cat doesn't try to change her which could be really special to her.

I actually really liked how effortlessly Avan Jogia played the “cool guy/ hot guy” like it wasn’t cringey and over the top, Beck was just the reliably calm and laid back character
Instead of making Beck an actor, which by the way doesn’t get reinforced at all, stead why not make him a voice actor or something.
I don't think that would fit in the category of "performing arts," because most of what students do at Hollywood Arts is on-stage.

Beck being with Jade is kinda like Freddie being with Sam, we clearly saw that Freddie’s mom did not approve of their relationship, the same could be said for Beck with his parents
I think the best scene with Beck was either the scene where he dressed up as Tori or during the slumber party at Sikowitz's where he was an British person who got into other people's personal space.
Something that I also noticed is that beck is the only poc who’s ethnicity never gets mentioned....

I feel like it's similar to how they made Gabriella from high school musical Latina even though Vanessa Hudgens is half Filipina. A lot of southeast Asian and south Asian popular people seemed to have their ethnicities erased, as though it's not that believable for south Asians or southeast Asians to be talented and/or attractive.

Dan Schinder writes good concepts for characters but he doesn’t know how to explore them within a storyline and develop them further.

I think the reason why im so glad that jayniac did this was not just because beck seemed like a character ppl would easily forget but he was one of the few brown characters (although not full brown) that did not have stereotypical traits albeit i do say he probably didnt posses any of these traits because he was so underdeveloped
Clearly, the writers wanted Tori to have a love interest and enemy, so they made that Tori/Beck/Jade triangle. However, I don't think Beck and Tori really ever went together well because if Beck and Jade are such a one-of-a-kind relationship, why would Beck randomly want Tori? Don't get me wrong, I'm no Bade shipper, but I think they tried to make Beck "more interesting" by just trying to get with Tori.
I figured it was his job to reign Jade in when she is being too mean.
It also didn’t help that singing was such a big focus and they already had 4, 5 If you count Daniella in some performances. That’s a lot of mouths to feed. I felt like if they had less singers, and more diversity with the talents, then it would’ve given him a chance to shine more. As much as people love Jade,Cat,and Andre, they made the show for Tori/Victoria, so keep her as the designated “singer” then cast a bunch of different talents around her and Beck, so then everyone has a unique talent that can be explored.

What love triangle though? The only time beck and tori was ever a thing was when he and jade broke up and they had that one episode when they went on an opposite date, and the platinum music awards. But there was never a love triangle

I think Beck is perfectly fine. Not everyone can be the over the top one. You need the more ordinary characters to balance out the more over the top characters. If you don't do that you can risk the show getting too annoying.

Not to bash anyone's opinion, but I don't think they should. Their friendship dynamic just worked. And not to sound repetitive cuz I've heard this said many times before about other characters but keeping them friends showed that guys and girls can be cool without having to date or w.e. I personally didn't see anything between them.

Honestly I don’t think Beck is the best when it comes to dating, for an actor you’d expect him to read people better 😂. But he definitely was the nicest and most genuine friend (as well as Andre) in the group. I may ship Jori, but I do honestly love his friendship with Tori. It reminds me a lot of my brother and I. I think it’s incredibly underrated.
Idk I don't think he has a problem reading ppl its the way he applies it...I see it as a bit manipulative bc like the whole "break up joke" with jade...its not like he doesn't see that it upsets her..he can read that just fine at least I think..it seems more like he "teases" her with jokes like that on purpose for entertainment which in my opinion is kinda messed up
The best opportunity for Beck's character development was when he broke up with Jade in season 3. You said Jade should've ended up with Andre, at least for awhile. Even though Jori is my endgame, I actually agree that Jade should've dated Andre for awhile. Imagine the tension and stories we could've had, seeing Beck struggle with seeing his best friend with his ex and them having a better time together. We could've had a serious version of the episode where they fake fight over Trina, only now it's with Jade. I doubt it would be allowed, but having them fight with no laugh track and the situation being taken seriously would've done wonders for the show. They treated the breakup seriously with dramatic music and lasting multiple episodes, why not have an actual serious scene in the show? It would have more impact since the show is mostly light hearted, allowing the serious scenes to hit that much harder. Beck would be forced to change and be better to get Jade back, then Jade would be in a bind over whether or not she should stay with Andre or go back to a changed Beck.

Yeah maybe if Jade dates Andre maybe Beck would realize even better his feeling for her and he will do everything possible to get Jade back and be his girlfriend
This is really easy to give an ending to, all they need to do is get the cast together and write the story post graduation from Hollywood arts and explore there art careers it could be a simple 1 to 2 hour show
Also, Beck couldn’t say “let’s not” because in improv, you don’t deny your partner but he could’ve changed the situation. He wanted to kiss her.

What’s more important though, winning one improv game or respecting your partner’s boundaries? Stage kisses seem to be pretty common at Hollywood Arts: Trina kisses Robbie in an audition & Cat kisses Beck in a student film (Jade was okay with this oddly enough). But Beck did know in that moment how much it would irritate Jade and he did it anyway.

I’m assuming failing that assignment(improv) to someone who it was only their second day and basically a rookie, would make his resume/grade take a huge hit. Respecting boundaries? That’s Sikowitz fault for not setting them. He let a student pour coffee on another and a kiss to go down. I think the rest of the characters were so over the top that it made Beck seem boring. Also the joking about breaking up is something I would do but idk what that says about me lol. Also, I feel like Jade and Beck have similar tastes in relationships because of their home life. Just because his parents are together doesn't mean they don't fight all the time or bicker. Idk they could have done so much with his character if this was let's say, on Netflix vs. Nick. All their characters seem to have dark story lines that were played off with a laugh track.
Idk to me the problem with the breaking up joke is that its clearly not funny to Jade and gets her very upset...itd be fine if he knew she wasn't insecure about it and would laugh but she's clearly expressing that she doesn't like it yet he keeps on egging her on with it and I feel like thats messed up cause he's purposefully inciting his girlfriend and in the future it could make her even more insecure about other things and be hypersensitive and that just won't end well...idk thats what I think. I definitely agree on u with the home life comment tho! As for the other over the top characters, I think I kind of agree...I see it more as Beck's personality being more of a subtle friendship support and chill...like he's chill, likes to be in the background and hang and observe and have fun but if there's a problem he'll fix it
@@yeah88942 Exactly, Beck often gives Jade reasons to be insecure, and then he gets annoyed with her when she’s jealous. Or he’ll even make her jealous but then get mad if she’s ‘too’ jealous. He really didn’t’ respect their relationship or her feelings.

He was obviously just an under developed character. He has a lot of potential to grow and to become a well rounded character but the show wasn't supposed to last that long so the writers I assume didn't want to start building a bridge if they couldn't finish it.

Also Sinjin referred to them as “The Main Five” when talking to Tori in the last produced episode The Slap Fight.

Wait, Beck’s RV was called the Silver Streak? That was an actual event in 53 where a train called so crashed off-track into the Washington Union Station. There was mid-70s movie based of and called Silver Streak with the late greats Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor (it was insane and hilarious and those two paved the way for interracial parings and diversity in film like Men In Black and Green Book) which was going to be filmed in America but the producers were forced to film in Canada because Amtrak understandably refused. SS was also a Canadian roller coaster so that would’ve been why Beck’s RV was named so as well.
The problem is, his entire character was basically 'cool, aloof guy', so we never really got to see him do much aside from frown in confusion now and then, and throw out a one-liner. He was a much better friend than boyfriend, and if they'd focused more on that I think Beck would be more appreciated, but the times he was actually a focus of a scene were mostly when he and Jade were being awful to each other.
The whole thing about Beck not being scared is just something used for funny jokes and never used or explained ever again. Just some cheap way to get laughs. Which by the way is so damn weak.
Beck is the glue of the group, which I’ve always felt that way too. And people say I’m quiet and shy when I’m really not. I like Beck’s character, he has some good moments like when he “fell for Tori” lol

I think Andre proved his loyalty to Beck that episode because of it. He knew she shouldn't be attracted to her, but was anyway. He decided to handle it by releasing his feelings through music instead of potentially ruining a friendship by going after Jade or simply telling Beck

I’m not a huge fan of Beck’s character, he too flat for me, so I decided to make an alternate take on Beck’s character.
First, he would be a much better boyfriend to Jade, being more understanding, caring, and trying to get Jade to talk about her problems.
Second, Beck would be very annoyed with girls stalking, following, and asking him if he’s in a relationship and tells them “yes, I am, so can you please leave me alone”; he would also ignore them.
Third, he would use his acting skills to get himself and his friends out of trouble or get themselves into places where they aren’t supposed to be in.
You should do Maya Hart from Girl Meets World. I think it would be great because I always thought that she was the most complex character on Girl Meets World

I had no idea Beck and Andre were best friends. They literally just do favors for each other. I thought Andre and Tori were best friends, and Beck’s best friend was his girlfriend Jade. That’s what it seemed like.

What if him and his family dont speak except for in note form, since he wont break up with Jade who ill assume did or said something horrible to a family member of his he had to decide between his friends and his family. Which would be why he treats Cat like a little sister because his little sister isnt allowed to talk with him. After him and jade break up for the first time, his sister finds out and trys to be back in his life BUT he still wouldnt want to tell his parents him and jade arent together for forcing that choice on him.

I need to take a moment to let you know how much I love the alliteration in your mission statements of these jaynalysis-es (jaynalyses?)
on the beck messing with jades insecurities: what if he wasn’t doing it to mess with her, but was doing it to sort of test her commitment and feelings for him? because with his relationship with his parents as well as his relationship with jade, i think he’s pretty used to strict or overbearing people, but it can be hard to tell sometimes if they truly care about you if they’re always acting like that. maybe it was his own insecurities causing him to do that and not him just being a jerk? just a thought
also think that might be why he’s so calm cool and collected 24/7. if you’ve got strict parents you sort of learn to hold emotions back and try not to show that they’re getting to you.. maybe that’s why we don’t see his insecurities as prominently as jade’s. everything about him is much more subtle. wish they would’ve explored that more.
A bit off topic, but why does everyone bash on Tori for the alphabetical improv kiss? Is everyone going to ignore the fact that Jade dumped coffee on her first and called her a "dog" for no good reason? I feel like part of the reason why Beck decided to kiss Tori was to teach Jade not to be overly jealous and cruel. Remember how Tori was saying "Oh, I spilled coffee on h-" and Jade was immediately like "Get away from him"?
I just feel like people excuse Jade's bad behavior ONLY because they think she's gorgeous or so cool, but everyone is always hating on Tori and ONLY pointing out bad things she did. If Jade wasn't as pretty, people probably would've hated her too.
Edit: They also made Tori the epic and “victorious” protagonist in the first episode, like Jade was the losing antagonist. Don’t lie, we were all on Tori’s side when we were younger, it’s only recently that ppl started hating Tori for it.
You bring up a good point. Neither Tori nor Jade are innocent BUT Jade did start the whole thing and one action led to another. Besides, it was a stage kiss where Beck agreed when, sure its improv but he could’ve changed the situation. Sure, Jade is “supposed to be the villain” but that doesn’t excuse her from anything, she still does the meanest stuff in the show with little repercussions. The only thing that comes close to Jade’s level of rudeness is “Robberazzi”.
@@Stinsation something that people have pointed out is that in improv exercises like that you're supposed to agree to most things, mainly because it's the easiest way to let the thing progress in a natural way. But yeah, maybe it could have been handled differently
