  • A deceptively simple tale of a group of strangers trapped in a farmhouse who find themselves fending off a horde of recently dead, flesh-eating ghouls, George Romero’s claustrophobic vision of a late-1960s America literally tearing itself apart rewrote the rules of the horror genre, combined gruesome gore with acute social commentary, and quietly broke ground by casting a black actor (Duane Jones) in its lead role.
NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD is available on Criterion Blu-ray/DVD 13 February 2018: www.criterion....

Night of the Living Dead was released on this day 10/1/68. It's an American independent horror film written, directed, photographed and edited by George A. Romero, co-written by John Russo, and starring Duane Jones and Judith O'Dea. The story follows seven people who are trapped in a rural farmhouse in western Pennsylvania, which is under assault by an enlarging group of cannibalistic, undead ghouls.

This is one of the few horror movies you can put on in the background and just sleep. A fun, classic BW horror movie that’s entertaining and relaxing. I don’t know how George & crew did it, but they made platinum here.

ROMERO.. he made up for the other zombie films for this one that he didn’t sealed the copyrights for … if he did that … he would’ve bagged HUGE profits for his masterpiece… horror LEGEND

The original is not an in camera negative. 16mm is a positive transparency. I think they just scanned the negative printing master.

It was actually the movie The last man on earth with Vincent Price that inspired the movie, Night of the Living Dead. I'm not sure if the Bee Gees song Staying AIive was inspired by it.

NOTLD (1968) is by far the scariest possibility & scariest position & scariest situation u could ever dream up!!!!
Just imagine living in the 1960's on a farmhouse ten miles from town in the middle of the night with a group of racist idiots that can't work together & nobody really has any real weapons & the fact that the term & idea of a "zombie" didn't even exist yet & never even knowing what would u actually do if dead corpses from the earth actually came back up from the ground & wanted to eat only ur human flesh????
Yeah i bet nobody looks at this movie like that do they??? This the scariest outcome that ever existed in a horror film & because it actually seems possible don't it????
