The Greatest Rock 'n' Roll Band in the World strikes again. I remember this surprise show. Stones detective story for you: In 2002, at a meeting of the clans at a Covid funeral, I bumped into my 'acid-brother' from the mid-70s whom I probably hadn't seen for maybe thirty or more years. We arranged to catch up at a later date, which we duly did, when he told me the following, which I am inclined to believe. We had been huge Stones fans back then - there's a small wooden chest of drawers next to me right now in 2024 covered in stickers put there in the seventies including the round Goat's Head Soup one from the album & one from Ronnie's Gimme Some Neck that we put there fifty years ago. Anyway, Mark, as was, and still is, his name, decided back then that one day, somehow, he would get to go on tour with the Stones. And if you are not in any way a musician, and you cannot sing, and you are useless with money, well good luck. And yet he did get to tour Europe with the Stones in the nineties, although he never met the band, but he did get acknowledged on rare occasions by Mick & Keith (as in a nod of the head). Any ideas?? Heh heh.
@@martinstarnes2237 love your stories. So let me understand this. Mark toured with the Stones in the 90s in Europe only. Wasn’t a musician and never really met The Band. I’ve no idea. Maybe food catering or something. Unless your acid-brother would supply them with other road comfort needs. Lol. You have great stories. Would like to know the answer of course.
@@TheAlanRosenbergShow The Covid funeral was of course 2022, not 2002. Oops. Anyway, decent detective work, I'd say. No, not a caterer, but definitely catered for those other needs you mention! Was always kept at arm's length - used to deal with a couple of suited and booted gentlemen on behalf of the band, but was on the tour, expenses paid. As I reiterate on occasions, I don't make this stuff up, and the fact that he told me he never really met the band (plus other stuff he mentioned) tends to make me believe him - someone bragging would have ended up best buddies with Keef, or similar - you know what I mean. Incidentally, I live exactly 20 miles south of Shepherd's Bush, but it's much prettier here. Just thought I'd mention it. Lol!
@@TheAlanRosenbergShow The Covid funeral was 2022, not 2002, of course. Oops. Anyway, decent detective work, I'd say. He was no caterer, but he did indeed cater for those other needs you mention. Lol! He said he did get the occasional nod of the head in acknowledgement from band members in passing, and that was about it. I tend to believe him because someone who was bragging would have ended up best friends with Keef or similar - you know what I mean - and because he had always said he'd get on a Stones tour one day (and a few other anecdotes he told me that must remain between him and me, I'm afraid. I promised, and I don't break 'em.). Kinda interesting how things worked in the 90s as opposed to back in the days of the Owsleys of this world, eh? Who cares about the "artwork"? Surely these geezers can't be wanting glaring picture covers of photos of other geezers? How weird is that. Anyway, I bought the 4K Ultra HD version and it's seriously good.
Oh musically it's seriously good / seriously great. But as a lifelong physical media guy, it totally bothers me that The Rolling Stones artwork has seriously gone down in quality for decades - especially considering how great many of the album covers were. And it certainly doesn't help with their physical record sales, even compared to other legacy acts of their timeframe. They don't have to use photos of geezers..lol.
@@TheAlanRosenbergShow Obviously, I was being a bit tongue in cheek, so to speak and erase that thought immediately. Lol. But, let's say I've kind of gotten used to somewhat disappointing artwork on Stones stuff since Dirty Work, like nearly 40 years ago. Their name is bigger than any artwork support and that's a fact. Another fact is they don't look 25 anymore, so there's zero possibilty of a Through The Past Darkly kinda sleeve is there? But hey, it's still a lot better than GRRR!
@@apollomemories7399 Well I agree that we don't need to see their faces so much on the covers, but like you just said - their album covers have been pretty dismal over the decades. But worse still recently. Classic rock doesn't sell much to begin with but The Stones archive stuff is usually pretty great but sells less than other bands of their era (and bands that don't have The Stones reputation or concert ticket sales). I'm not exactly sure why, but the album covers certainly don't help. And make no mistake The Stones want and like to sell albums and have good chart positions.
@@TheAlanRosenbergShow I think there's a cut-off point for the vast majority of record buyers when it comes to live albums and particularly with archive live albums with little or no history attached to them. I also can't think of any other band who has released anything like the number of archive releases in both audio and video form as the Stones. And if there are, they're not on my radar. Plus there's all these 'normies' who don't even buy hard copy physical formats anyway, so that must be a problem for any artist. People like us, those real fans who do follow the release schedules with positive expectation and actually buy physical are a dying breed and in relatively small numbers these days. The normies don't even own a hi-fi and settle for ear-buds via a smart phone. It's an abysmal situation. For me these days for the Stones, if it's an album, I'll buy on vinyl and CD, as also with any corresponding singles. If it's on film, I'll buy the Blu-ray or this new 4k, as I don't really need the CD. I always much prefer to watch a Stones concert rather than just listen if at all possible.

Well I guess it's working because these excellent releases (Wiltern as well) are not selling. Drives me crazy...lol. The Grateful Dead continue to release endless live archive albums on CD and they chart on Billboard. These Stones releases don't. I don't get it. But at least for those of us who did - they're really good releases. I think you'll love this one as well. Thanks so much again!!!
Terrific presentation Alan.
Thank you so much.
Well thought out fair measured and accurate review Alan. Love your off the cuff / from the heart individual style ( and you miss nothing ) After seeing the show in the cinema bought the 4K version a few days later. Agree with you on the artwork no thought went into it and Wiltern and El Mocambo aren't brilliant either even though those shows themselves are off the charts🔥💎. Anyway Alan good health good wishes to you and your family this Christmas 2024 and see you in '25🙏🎄⛄🕺👅🎸🎸🥁🍷☘️🇮🇪
Very cool that you saw Shepherds Bush in a theatre. I love the Blu-Ray so I imagine it was terrific in the theater. Thanks so much for your comments - really appreciate it. Good Health and wonderful holiday celebrations to you and your family as well. Best, Alan
I think I'm getting that for the holidays next week. Thanks for the review.
I think you'll love it Tarr - thanks.
Hi again .... another great review of another excellent Stones show (initially listened to it in HiRes on Qobuz .... just fab) ... the band (all 13 of them) are nailing it ... Shepherd's Bush is a great venue visit ... great views from all areas (been down there 3 times from Aberdeen - Dweezil Zappa, Roger Chapman, Steve Hillage) ... must have been awesome to have been in the crowd at this Sones gig ... a definite buy ... CMcG Aberdeen Scotland
@@calummcgregor3662 Hi Calum. Good review because I was wearing my troosers lol. All these legendary venues I’ve never been to and probably won’t. Maybe someday. Really good release though. Best Alan
Hey Alan...great review....I'm going to watch it tomorrow...just came today...I think the Bridges to Babylon tour was pretty eclectic even in it's big arena form....this tour introduced the B Stage which was almost never the same 3 songs...they also were doing the fan website vote picking a track for them to do at a particular show...I have a 2 disc bootleg called You Get the Best of Me....Rarities from 97 -98 U.S. and Japan tours...I think I'm going to go right to the Bluray....thanks..
Larry that's a good bootleg - I have it as well. I love those bootlegs consisting of the tour rarities. Always great...because always great to hear the rarities. Enjoy the Blu-ray - I think you will.
@TheAlanRosenbergShow thanks Alan...Looking forward to it....also one other quick mention....there is one other From the Vault with Mick Taylor...Hyde Park 69...unfortunately I rank it as the worst From the Vault....the guitars are woefully out of tune and the camera spends more time on the audience then the Stones....thanks
@@larrynolletti4594 That's right - yea I have that as well. I'm with you, amongst the worst films, though interesting. As you said guitars completely out of tune. Taylors first performance with the Stones. Interesting but musically fairly awful like you said.
@TheAlanRosenbergShow yes..but of course with Taylor things immediately got a whole lot better....interesting that in regards to doing Some Girls the Stones were already caving into political correctness by changing the lyrcs....meanwhile in 78 Garret Morris was making a big joke of the lyrics on the SNL newscast....same with Far Away Eyes when they started doing that again...Jagger completely dropped the southern drawl...
Great review, thanks! Moon is Up is fantastic!
Thanks so much. It really is - and what an amazing surprise too - Best, Alan
A great review as always. I do own many live bootleg releases.I have this show on bootleg. Have you done a Heart review of all their releases yet. Would like to see that. Have a awesome Christmas season.
Thanks so much - I did do a video on Heart's complete discography and go-to tracks - a really early video from over 3 years ago - It's in Playlists - see Artist Discographies and you'll see it. It's an early video but I do really like Heart. ruclips.net/video/7sgLvUduH1A/видео.html. Thanks so much again and Merry Christmas / New Years to you and your family.
Awesome Alan. Santa apparently has snagged a copy for me. Who says you cant always get what you want? Love for you to do a video explaining all the various Stripped releases. I've got some bootlegs but not sure what official releases to buy.
@@robertfrancis-qn8mb thanks. I did do a video on the Totally Stripped boxset. That’s a great box. In my playlists can find under Rolling Stones videos and Favorite Boxsets too. You’ll like this concert. The Blu-ray is terrific. Thanks.
I'm a weird Stones fan. Most of my collection is made up of live Blu-rays and DVDs, so I agree the Stones are meant to be seen. The Totally Stripped set is my favorite release. My Shepperd's Bush is on its way. Nice review.
@@stephenrostkoski837 thanks so much. Think you’ll love the Shepherds Bush Blu-ray. Interesting that you mostly just love the live stuff. But it is great stuff
Gaaah! Littereally held the damned thing in my hands (with the blue-ray) and now its sold out! We have one CD store in a region of 1.4 million people and now I hear its limited edition? Waaah!

Apparently he would be met by a couple of suited and booted gentlemen as and when required, who would test and pay, and he did the tour, except when he had to be absent, and got his expenses paid! Anyway, back on topic, I live twenty miles south of Shepherd's Bush, but it's much prettier here. Just thought I'd mention it. Lol!
@ just a lucky guess. Ah the stories he can tell even if he didn’t really meet them. Still amazing for a whole tour. His version of up and down with The Rolling Stones by Tony Sanchez.
@@TheAlanRosenbergShow Indeed.
Nicely doe Alan! Puts things into perspective seeing all the releases together--let's hope the archives never close! I agree tho, the artwork for Shepherds is terrible!
Thanks....They're sure on a roll regarding terrible artwork. I don't know what happened with The Stones and their album art. I know sales for physical media is pretty dismal, but they're sure not going to entice non Stones fans or even moderate Stones fans to buy these releases imho.
That trombone solo on Melody was a great surprise
Yea it sure was and it was GREAT. They were just having so much fun up there. Loved it.
I agree a great concert and so pleased to have it on bluray.Cheers Alan
Thanks so much - Cheers back to you David.
Hurray! Bought it today 😊
Nice - think you're gonna love the Blu-Ray - hope you do.
Who would of thought you'd do a video on the Stones Alan lol.Great show but like Steve says they need to do something about the packaging I mean it's the Stones not some one hit wonder here.Should be plush and just sell on the packaging.
Totally agree - the packaging and design is awful. The Stones are on a roll with terrible artwork - I don't understand it. No one will be tempted to buy this beyond big Stones fans.
@@TheAlanRosenbergShow I screwed up also didn't know about the blu-ray package so I had to order another one and you wonder Alan why I have doubles lol

Live the club shows. I was at Roseland; id love a DVD of that show, but I've never even seen boots of anything from that night.
I have a 2 CD audience recording of that legendary show. Lucky you - I can only imagine. and that was the show they performed one of my favorite deep cuts "She Smiled Sweetly" for the one and ONLY time. oooh. so luck you were there. I've never seen them smaller than an arena. Those shows are to die for...lol
Is this the trimed bush edition?? My copy arrived today. I haven't listened to it yet. The packaging on these live sets are nust awful. The No Security tour was one of my favorites.I saw the show at the Pyramid in Memphis. It was a great show.
Funny Jagger says I always wanted to say Shepherd's Bush and guessing that's what he's talking about too..lol. Yea No Security was something special. Totally agree - the packaging is so bare bones and worse the art is awful. So bad like purposely trying to NOT appeal to people so they don't buy it. I don't understand.
Thanks Alan, you're right the cover turned me off. I saw the Bridges tour here in San Diego at our stadium, where it rained like hell. The show was great anyway. will be cool to see a show in this era with a different setting. So, I will get it.

@@TheAlanRosenbergShow Melody was a big highlight for me, gotta love a trombone solo, and it works!
All the deep cuts is what makes this concert a winner!
Fun fact, Blondie Chaplin was a member of The Beach Boys in the 70s, he sang lead on their hit, Sail on Sailor, one of my favorite Beach Boys songs btw.
Blondie is also a skilled guitarist.
@ i totally agree Melody a highlight of the show. And yes the trombone solo was an awesome inspiring touch. Fantastic indeed.
@ yes about a Blondie. He was like the utility player for the Stones on that tour. Did a little of everything and probably more than us fans realized.
How nerdy am l? April Wine opened for the Stones at the El Mocambo and released it. I play that cd and then the Stones cd to pretend I was there. 😂
Steve you're not nerdy or we're both nerdy, because I've done the same thing...lol. I have that April Wine vinyl album - thanks the Stones on the liner notes too. Cool release and I agree fun to do that. If we couldn't have been there at least we can pretend....

I like the Mick Taylor Era shows the best and the Some Girls Tour! Great set lists!
And hearing Mick Taylor’s shows has been a thrill! I admire his precision leads and how he interweaves with Richards leads and rhythm guitar parts! Amazing!

@@TheAlanRosenbergShow Huh? Looks as if the RUclips milk monitors didn't like my reply so removed it. It's ludicrous.
Imagine being a grown man and acting like a groupie teenager
I guess this is directed at me??? Well The Stones are my favorite band of all time and really got into them when I was 10 (even a little younger). I sure do love their music. Though I don't consider myself a groupie...in fact I criticize them quite often (in my channel) - so I'm not blind to whatever they do. But yea, I do love their music. Unfortunately I'm way way past my teenager days though.
You’ve never interacted with a groupie in your life 😂
@ I was never a rock star (could have been nice though...well maybe). But you're right, I've never interacted with a "professional" groupie.
