Apple cider vinegar worked like a dream with paint on glass!!! This experiment really inspired me. Looking at numerous videos on how to remove paint/logos from glass bottles, this looked the most reasonable. I modified it a bit by putting a paper towel soaked in apple cider vinegar on the painted areas then wrapping Saran Wrap around the whole thing and leaving for 24hrs. I barely had to scrub with an SOS pad to get the paint off. I’m thrilled with the results and grateful this video even existed. Thank you soooo much for posting it.
Apple Cider Vinegar was the best for me! Thank you so much for this video. I let mine soak for a full 24 hours with a paper towel and in plastic wrap since I didn't have a large enough zip lock bag. I was finally able to get the markings off my milk jugs with a little bit of scrapping with a razor blade. Totally a life saver. :)
I soaked a couple of beer bottles in a napkin soaked with ACV, placed the bottles in a Tupperware and filled the Tupperware a few inches high with some more ACV. I left the bottles in the Tupperware with the lid on for about 5 hours. I was shocked when I checked on the bottles- the paint was sweating off the bottle and with one swipe of a paper towel the bottle was completely free of any paint. Thank you so much for your help!
Most of the time i remove labels with rubbing alcohol. I usually have 91% isopropyl alcohol in my medical supplies. That should break down most adhesives and paints on bottles. Some more easily than others. Depends on what type of paint and glue they used but the alcohol works most of the time. Mineral spirits and other paint thinners should work as well.
I have an experience to share with you, 1/2 good, 1/2 bad. Okay, I have 4 identical, painted label bottles. I put a ziplok bag into a tall can, filled the bottle with water to keep it from floating, then added vinegar to the ziplok bag. WOW I was stunned, the first two cleaned up fast! Took less than 2 hours to do BOTH. When the first worked, I put the 2nd bottle in the same vinegar. When I tried the third. NOTHING, so I changed out initial vinegar and replaced with fresh, still NO change. It's strange, because these were purchased the Same day & are identical. Gonna leave it overnite, but it has had 3 hours in first vinegar and 3-4 hours in New vinegar. Hoping that it will be better in the mornin. I'm stumped. I also did a different brand, style bottle after the first 2, used same initial vinegar, it worked Great.
The best way to remove painted on labels is by soaking in acetone. I use this to get heat treated enamel off of coffee pots. I do have to *lightly* rub the paint with the rough side of a sponge and resoak several times, but this is how to get the paint off without damaging the glass. (Scrubbing too hard will scratch it. Be gentle.)
thanks for the video . next time try filling the bottle with hot tap water and letting the adhesive warm up before peeling the dry sticker off , then remove the left over adhesive with Olive Oil , it work fantastic !
Thank you for your tips,,,,,, I went with the vinegar treatment Soaked overnight a few times,,,scraped it,,,followed up with scrubbiy pad and dish detergent,,,,worked great !
For paper labels: soak it in hot water for few minutes, scrape a bit (e.g. with spoon), soak few minutes more, and then keep scraping until it is gone. Remaining glue goes off easily by scrubbing it off with stainless steel scrubber under the water flow. Done in 10-15 min. For plastic labels: Heat the label with hairdryer for few minutes. It peels off easily. Not always, but usually there is glue residue left behind - mix cooking oil and baking soda into a thick paste (thick enough to easily apply it without much dripping afterwards). Leave for 20-30 min. Scrub off with stainless steel scrubber and dishwash detergent under the water flow. There are no scrubbing marks left on afterwards and bottles and jars look like brand new. I am yet to try removing the print from the glass jar. I am going to mix any kind if vinegar, salt and maybe water, and leave it overnight.
Good information! I've been trying to remove a painted label with no success. I will try soaking in vinegar. I've been reluctant to try acetone but I have had pretty good success with olive oil, especially with the underlying glue. I also use isopropyl alcohol as a finishing cleaner to remove the glue reside.
I heard about using Olive oil after posting this video. Sounds like it works just as well, maybe even better than acetone. I like the idea of using everyday supplies whenever possible, especially when they are safe and effective to use. I hope the vinegar works well for you!
I don't usually need anything to take off the plastic labels as most peel off fairly easily once started. I use a heat gun to remove labels from any heat resistant surface (cardboard, glass, etc.) I have not been successful in removing painted labels from glass so I am excited to try this. I did try acetone covered in plastic wrap and taped over the paint to no avail. Fingers crossed on the apple cider vinegar overnight. :-)
That's a good tip for paper labels, thanks for sharing it! I don't have a heat gun yet, buy I'll have to try that after I get one. I hope the vinegar was helpful for you.
Any sticker glue can be removed with gasoline or terpentine. Paint on glass with a gas burner but heat the glass evenly everywhere or heat up very slowly to allow the heat to spread out evenly.
Thank you so much my mom bought by mistake glasses with beer and wine and beer logos printed on them، she thought the wine glasses prints (🍺🍷) are juice then I googled the logos ,and we r muslims are not allowed to drink liquids from such glasses, so am gonna try soaking them in vinegar over night hope it works with me Thank u so much sir ❤
I found out more recently a better way for plastic labels is to put hot water INSIDE the bottle and let it sit for a minute or two. That helps loosen the glue and it peels off much easier. Hope this helps!
I may have to get some of those so I can try a few things. You can try soaking the label in vinegar for an hour or so then try scraping it with a razor blade. Sometimes this works great for painted labels, but sometimes the paint is a bit stubborn.
With the painted labels, submerge them in white vinegar for a couple of hours and rub off the label with steal wool (instead of the razor blade), and rinse off the paint
Realizing that you were getting results with acids, I tried Barkeepers Friend ( which is a metal cleaner containing oxalic acid). I applied the product and was able to immediately scrape the print off with a metal flat edge (I used the tip of a butter knife).
I like to save kombucha bottles that are similar to your blood orange drink. Fill it with water and microwave it to soften the glue so the label doesn't rip when you pull it off, then remove the residue with WD-40 followed by alcohol or soapy water to get rid of the smell.
Thanks for this tip! I haven't heard of that technique before I made this video. I've tried it recently, and I have to say that it works great for paper and plastic labels. Much better than anything I've tried in the past.
vinegar is an acid so maybe a stronger acid might get the paint on sticker and not touching the glass .. i will try your trick mister , thanks for the video ..
So I tried this today on an Absolut bottle, it worked pretty well but the new bottles have a big letter "A" watermark thats impossible to remove, the vinegar didn't do anything to it, im also scraping it and nothing, any idea what to do with it?
Interesting video, thanks for uploading it :) I have a Voss bottle I wanted to get the label off, whilst watching your video I tried a soft nail file on it & it got it off really fast :)
Perhaps buying acetic acid (the chemical name for vinegar) at the hardware store might work. White vinegar only has about 5% acetic acid, and I think you can find industrial vinegar that has 30% acetic acid. Although acetic acid is a weak acid industrial vinegar should still be handled with caution, and in a well ventilated area.
I have that happen occasionally. When I come across that type of ink I use a razor blade to scrape off as much as I can after soaking it. I haven't found anything to help get it off easier, other than strong chemicals like paint remover.
@@HowDoYouDIY I tried acetone, a crazy chemical Calle "goof off", and paint thinner all with a razor blade....I am anxious to try this method out. (But I am skeptical...this is a crazy label.)
For adhesive residue try 99% rubbing alcohol or solvent FIRST. If that doesn't remove the glue rub the surface with coconut oil NOT vegetable oil and let the bottle sit on your counter for 24 - 48 hours. Try to remove a small area of the coconut smeared adhesive. If it's softening the glue but still a bit stubborn wait another day or two. Let it sit for a week or more if the glue is really stubborn. Then wipe the coconut oil and adhesive from the bottle with a paper towel and then wash the glass with soap and water. The thick consistency of coconut oil makes it cling to the surface of the glass so you don't need a plastic bag just a little patience.
Thanks for sharing your tip! I haven't personally tried with vegetable oil or coconut oil, but I know that some oils (like orange oil) will help soften or dissolve the residue within minutes, and some oils don't help at all (this might be the case with vegetable oil, but idunno.)

The vinegar worked like magic! I let it soak over night and the paint came off with very little rubbing. Thanks for being so detailed and thorough!!
Thanks for sharing your experience! I was surprised by how well it worked too!

Try a brass or nylon wire wheel.
Good idea to try. Thanks for sharing!
Great video. Thank you for the fruits of your efforts.
Does the final vinegar method work on glass coke bottles?
I haven't tried it specifically on Coke bottle, but it should work.
Thank you! Saved me some trial and error. I might try denatured alcohol just to see how that does on paint and the plastic labels.

Just wrapped my Bawls bottle in a paper towel soaked in vinegar, it’s currently sitting in a ziploc bag. I’ll update tomorrow!
UPDATE: after soaking for approximately 20 hours I was able to just wipe the paint off. No need to scrape or scrub, it came off very easily.
Nice! Thanks for sharing the update!
I want to remove Riscata moscato labels from bottles.. I’ve tried so many ways nothing is helping for it to come off ... Help !!!!!! Any ideas ???

No, the razor doesn't show any scrape marks on the glass bottle.
olive oil takes off the stickiness left behind the ones you have soaked off the label in hot soapy water

What brand of apple cider vinegar did you use?
I don't remember. Maybe Heinz?
most of those paper labels just need heat and a plastic bottle top, scrub it with the top. hot water works, or a heat gun.
