    The MD Rokkor-X 50mm F1.4 is a brilliant lens for under $100, but I had to see how it compared to another Minolta lens that I picked up for under $30, the Minolta MD 50mm F2. Let’s check them out.

    This is excellent. I picked up a MD 50mm f/2 from a local thrift store for just $5 a couple of months ago and I'm now switching to the MD 50mm f/1.4 for that extra bokeh. Loved the f/2 though, great lens!

    Hi Matt, thank you for this review! I had the Minolta MD 2.0/50mm back in the 1980s on a Minolta XG-M.

    Thanks a lot for the very informative comparison reviews of the 50mm lenses by Minolta and other makers. I have a few of Minolta vintage lenses. I recently bought a FotodioX Pro Lens Mount Adapter for Minolta MD Lens to Nikon F Mount Camera and started using these lenses on a Nikon D3100. The photos become very sharp at F5.6 as you pointed out. I am just happy i am able to sue these old but still nice lenses on a DSLR. Thank you again. Keep up the great work.

    At f2 & 2.8, which of the two was sharper? Sharper then the MC at f2/2.8? Thanks! Love your reviews.

    Matt Rice I have used for years a variety of Minolta lenses of various vintages from the earliest pre-MC Rokkors, but also a lot of the final release MD (post-Rokkor) lenses. Somehow I developed quite a liking for the MD 50/2, partly because of the f/22 minimum aperture but the image signature is much to my liking, over the various versions of the f/1.7, and several versions of the 50-58/1.4. I guess it can be a subjective thing, but shooting for magazines it's nice to be able to use lenses giving a consistent image signature for any given assignment, something that gives me an edge in my trade. Right now I am paring down my Minolta kit due to changes in the business landscape but I am going to hold on to some of my post-Rokkor MD lenses including this 50/2, along with 16/2.8, 85/2, etc.

    Hi, how about the md rokkor x 50 f1.7 and md 50 f1.7(latest generation)? In my country, md 50 is 47$, rokkor is cheaper a little bit

    I’ve read online that the 50mm F/2.0 is a Leica dupe?!

    • @Wilma5532
      @Wilma5532 8 месяцев назад +1

      MINOLTA AND LEICA WORKED IN COLLABORATION, CALLING IT A DUPE MAKES IT SEEM LIKE MINOLTA RIPPED THE DESIGN FROM LEICA, WHILE ACTUALLY ITS THE OTHER WAY AROUND, SAME THING WITH THE 35-70 F3.5. THEY BOTH MADE GREAT STUFF, AND WHILE IT MIGHT BE HARD TO BELIEVE, SOME OF THE STUFF MINOLTA PULLED OFF IN THE OPTICAL DEPARTEMENT IS INCREDIBLE, EVEN SURPRASSING LEICA, WHILE COSTING A FRACTION. (EXCUSE THE CAPS, KEYBOARD BROKE)

    Are either of these lenses radioactive?

    • @Gabez82
      @Gabez82 6 лет назад

      Johnson Yur No, these (MD Rokkor-X, new MD) didn’t use those types of rare earth elements at that point in Minolta lens development. Minolta had very few that were in the Early MC series of lenses, such as the MC Rokkor 28mm f2.5 SI lens. I’m no expert but that is my understanding of these MD Rokkor-X and new MD lenses.

      Your concern is actually a myth. You would actually need to sleep for days in a room full of millions of radioactive lenses (say for example the Pancolar if I am not mistaken) to actually see some effect on your body. And of course, no these aren't radioactive.
