    Just bought a used 2023 C40 Twin for $28K and love it. I would not buy one at $60K. A major rental company is dumping their EV fleet and nobody wants the C40, but it works for me.

    Disagree with EVERYTHING these people say, as usual. Actual automotive journalists such as Car & Driver give it 8/10. And after owning one for 3 year I can say it's been great, still solid, and hasn't been in the shop a single time.

    Great program and review. When Jason said £60k I thought he was joking .... I agree £40k maybe even £30k should be the price. Just over an additional £20K you could buy an hybrid London taxi also developed by Volvo.

      It is just a silly high price not related to leaving the EU. A private buyer would lose a lot of money buying one of these new but second hand with an inevitable heafty depreciation might be ok. But makers like Kia produce equally as good cars for thousands less.

    • @JakeM218

      Electric vehicles are currently in a free trade agreement between the EU and U.K.
      There is the chance this might change in the future as the agreement specified that by a specific date, a high percentage of the batteries must be produced in the EU or U.K. to comply, yet currently most battery production is being outsourced to Asia.
      If this happens, there will be a 10% extra tariff for vehicles assembled in the EU, but then we also have a free trade agreement with some Asian countries so worst case scenario, some production could move there and away from Sweden.
      Some companies like BMW have already moved production of the electric Mini to the U.K. post Brexit, as it’s more cost effective to be based here instead of Germany.

    • @wakeywarrior
      @wakeywarrior 4 месяца назад

      Nothing to do with leaving EU. On fact, EU will have additional tariffs on any imported Chinese built cars soon.
      It is simply Volvo overcharging the U.K./ Irish markets.

    She has one Pedal drive, which they don't know about, and it can regenerate the power back to the battery. Also, there is no need to use the brake when you want to stop the car, which model Y don't have this function. I can see that guy using his hand to close the boot, which will damage the boot; even if they don't know what model of the car XC40 or C30 they are both wrong. I think they didn't get the car's functions well prepared before making this video; that's not a great review, though.

    As a Swede who is marinated in the metric system I first thought the range was a bit on the short side with 273m = 273 meters, 3:28 , which would be similar to 300 yards.. then I realised that some distant parts of the world still use something called miles...

    • @JakeM218
      @JakeM218 11 месяцев назад

      England is a very strange mixture of units. Milk and beer is bought in pints, water and soft drinks in litres.
      Fuel is purchased in litres, but we use “miles per gallon” for economy figures.
      A persons height is in feet and inches, but measurements around a home are usually in metres.

    Can't disagree, it's a decent, good looking car but at least 10-15K over priced . The list price on a Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor with Performance pack is 'only' 57K - 5k LESS than the C40. And that is a way nicer car.

    I’m lucky enough to have a C40 Ultimate as a company car, I love it but it’s really basic in some ways and I’d have been gutted if I’d paid £60k for it, the electric drive is fab but gadget wise it’s way behind the times and “Pro-Pilot” must mean Provisional driver, it’s like a nervous driver in their first outing. My only gripe with almost every review of the C40 is the reviewers seem surprised that the coupe has a smaller boot! Of course it does, it’s a coupe!!

      I must admit the idea of a coupe SUV does seem crazy to me.
      The thought of buying a big car with a smaller cabin is the complete opposite of the ideal setup - a small vehicle that’s easy to park and manoeuvre, but has a spacious interior.
      Is there any reason you chose the C40 over the XC40?

    Is it a car? (Is it a plane? Do I need a starting procedure?) Can I just jump in it and drive of, like with any ordinary car? Valid point I think!? With this one, my answer is no, and therefore it´s a dud. And I´m not harsch, just honest. I love you guys and these tests!

    • @philipposkrizopoulos6597
      @philipposkrizopoulos6597 Год назад +2

      I think you don't need a starting procedure. Actually the only thing you need is, to have the key in your pocket, enter the car, fasten your seatbelt and you are good to go. By that pov its better than an ordinary car cause you don't need to do something with your key. The car recognize you from the proximity of the key and your bodyweight in the drivers seat so it starts up. XC40 - C40 are are some of the very few modern cars that keep most of the physical buttons and knobs as we know them the last 40+ years. Also the boxy design is kind of minimalist and classical, therefore familiar to our senses. Pricewise in most countries its 2-5k£ more expensive from some competitors(from others its cheaper), but i think design and build quality its more upmarket. So yes i believe this review is a bit harsh 😊

    Bit of a fluffy review ,blind fold waste of time ,price and style was all that was discussed and nothing of a technical nature or mention of the just released rear wheel drive and extended range 2024 model .volvo costs more cause its built like a tank and probably safest brand on the road but yeh its still about 10 grand more than its worth .

    Very disappointed with my xc40 recharge extended range, very bad performance in autonomy. Everything else is great except some minor bugs in software. But range is my first concern and it doesn’t accomplish what it advertise, the range never got even close to 480kms at 100% charge.

    SIXTY TWO THOUSAND POUNDS!!!! Even if it was half that price it would be too much. It's no wonder some of the larger car OEM's are turning their backs on EV vehicles. This is the top of the range model with a ridiculous 0-60 time and all wheel drive.
      The RWD model offers hot hatch performance, not supercar acceleration, but starts from 40 something grand instead.

  • @youbencowell
    @youbencowell Год назад

    It's no different to the XC40, and isn't a ground up electric car. It's still an ICE car by original design and they just changed the boot!

    • @JakeM218
      @JakeM218 11 месяцев назад

      Biggest flaw of the XC40 was the software inside, which has been completed redeveloped in the C40.
      The actual platform itself is great. Extremely high safety ratings, solid performance and handling - so no need to really invest millions reinventing the wheel.
      Only negative is keeping the transmission tunnel, but this likely has structural implications if they were to remove it.

    One thing to be aware of, YOU CANNOT PLUG A USB STICK in and Play Music files without downloading AUDIOWAGON, yes it's STAGGERING Volvo don't support audio playback in an APP of their own. And to top that EVERY TIME you switch on you have to confirm twice in a POP UP so that the usb device can be used. I came across this when I bought my C40 and EVERYTHING WORKED !!
    Then guess what... VOLVO upgraded the software AND REMOVED THE FACILITY TO PLAY DIRECTLY FROM ANDROID !!, this happened 2 weeks after I bought it, LIVID ain't the half of it !!

    Come on Fifth Gear, this is such a poor and disingenuous devious of a car. The review seems solely based on the teams review of how it feels to sit down, a fair category for comment be very inconclusive. There are so many positive functions to this car. Not one comment on the driving characteristics, the battery performance. A distinct lack of detail which is wholly un-useful review to any potential consumer.
