One thing unique to espinas that i adore is he towering over the hunter. Most flying wyverns of his squeleton maintain their heads near the ground when roaring but he tries to be as big as he can which is actually a smart thing to do with both hunters and monsters alike.
This guy is the only monster where I actually equip anti-status decorations for fighting. The poison and fireblight I can deal with, but the paralysis on top of that is just too much.
Thing is, imo his paralysis is very fair that I don't run it at all. If he's far away (which he usually is for fireballs), he won't get to you in time to punish you, and I love it. Compare that to kirin in world for example, who paralyses you for what feels like 5 years as it eats your entire HP bar. They made his para last shorter, which was a great move, as it often uses fireballs and being para'd for as long as something like kirin para's you, every time you get hit would get frustrating real quick
@@LuxEternis They made monsters that stun/paralyze you more fair in Sunbreak as a rule, it seems. You'll only take a cart if you're around 30% health, unless they're Rajang, who'll usually just body slam you instead of doing the laser attack.
The first time I heard this and fought him, I felt true panic. Knowing that one wrong dodge or attack could lead to me getting gored, poisoned, burned, paralyzed, and stomped into the dirt. Its nice to see this monster return loves to sleep but can be a dangerous opponent to fight being able to rival elder dragons in power especially kushala daora
The pacing of this theme makes it feel more like a frantic jousting match than a fight to me. Really gives me this _"HAVE AT YOU, CRETIN!"_ vibe, especially when Espinas lowers his horn toward the ground before charging.
I had never fought this guy until Sunbreak but heard how he is drastically strong and broken so when I received him as an urgent quest I had to be prepared. I prepared my mega potions and antidotes and was set off. I run out there and attack him. He turns around and starts charging everywhere. Nothing really happens until he gets enraged. Then I see the poison fire balls. He hits me and then I’m paralyzed. I wasn’t aware and so confused, then he charged me and carted me, over, and over again. First triple cart I’ve had in Sunbreak
When I received the urgent quest I turned on request for other players to join. Espinas went down fairly quick and I felt I overestimated it. When I went with Arlow I was greatly mistaken as I got carted twice in the span of around three to five minutes. Mind you I was well aware of how dangerous Espinas is and I had used full anti paralysis and level 5 dignified armour (Rondine’s armour) and mega armour skin and I went down in about two to three hits. And then Arlow had the audacity to drag me into a fight with GORE FREAKIN’ MAGALA! Some father figure he is! Trying to kill me by pitting me against two of the most dangerous monsters.
Chichae mentioned he had paralytic abilities so I slotted anti paralysis decorations. Luckily I had room in my set for that, because I definitely would have hard carted otherwise. I just took the grinder jewels off and relied on my Palamute to be mobile while sharpening. I STILL would have died without my healer Palico. It wasn't as hard as Seregios imo, but that put him right in the sweet spot of making me struggle without making me rage. I really hope they bring in more Frontier monsters in the future, some of them have some really cool concepts.
Espinas is my all-time favourite monster, ever since I've seen him. I never got to fight him though, because I couldn't get my hands on Frontier. So I'm ecstatic that Capcom added him and his subspecies in Sunbreak! Almost everything is perfect about this monster. His design, theme, weapons and the fact that he uses fire, poison and paralysis is just amazing! I've never actually looked at his armour before though, and when I first saw it in sunbreak, I was kind of disappointed to be frank... But still, I will never lose the love I have for Espinasu, my thorny big boi!
I love everything about him, the atmosphere when you fight it, could be challenging if you play a slow weapon. His theme fits him really well, fast with percussion instruments ( it reminds me that he's always attacking and it's like a truck, he won't stop moving) Fun fact, when he's doing his attack when he throws 3 fireball and jumps backwards, you can just see he's belly and that's so funny and cute, it breaks the entire atmosphere of the fight 😂
Honestly my favourite monster in sunbreak, just love his attitude and mad charges, triple threat ailments and intense theme! Really hope we get more frontier monsters

Still insane but I wonder why they change the pace of the fight. Now he instantly wakes up and starts attacking instead of you having to build up to that part.
You still need to deal enough damage to him so he could wake up. But yeah, the middle part where he doesn't give a shit about you until enrage was cut for some reason, which is a little bit shame. But hey, at least we have the first sleeping part and the fight itself looks painful, which is good.
I think they took out the “woke up but still doesn’t care” part because they wanted to keep the fast pacing of rise and sunbreak going, and the middle stage would’ve been too slow and make it seem boring at first. Espinas is also master rank, so they want to keep him as dangerous as possible, making him more aggressive in the awake but not enraged state would befit that.

A hard body, fire that can poison and paralyzed foes, can fly, and all part of it's body filled with poison spike. This thing is a living definition of "I'm fucking build different"
Kushala by poison and not being effected by wind, Teo and Luna by physicality and fire resistant, velk by fire and tankiness, chameleos by poison resistant and physicality, vaal hazak by tankiness and physicality, namielle is the only one that counters espinas with water beams, because they could break through the shell because physics exist💀
Since the monsters of Sunbreak are all based on western monsters/ stories; I had a theory that this was to stand in for the green knight from Arthurian legend?
Only the new monsters designed for Sunbreak were designed with the Western monster theme. Espinas is a returning monster, originally appearing in the MMO Monster Hunter Frontjer.
If I remember correctly, Espinas was originally inspired by rose thorns, which explains his poisonous spikes all over the body as protection (besides his already tough skin). I don't know about the green knight.
@@maxeon0937 I'll disagree. I'm not knocking the tempo nor do I think the intensity and speed should be reduced. I was thinking a fast pan flute or African flute to accentuate the speed of the melody because the song is heavy on the low range, which is harder to make fast melodies clearer in. It can be a little hard to hear on my tv.
Don't get me wrong this monster is pretty cool but is it wrong for me to expect more from this fight? He kinda was just another rathalos with a deviljho rage mechanic and diablos charge. Maybe his hype came more from his frontier inclusion than his actual fight.
Espinas came out before Freedom Unite. Deviljho wasn't even a thing yet, and Espinas's biggest gimmick is his pseudo stamina system (because monster stamina wasn't a thing yet) where he'd swap between super lethargic and ultra aggressive depending on if he was enraged or not. Espinas is kind of a relic of his time
Difficulty is subjective. I think he’s pretty difficult to fight. Charge attacks do extreme damage, his fireballs are one of the most unforgiving attacks to get hit by in the game, and many of his attacks have large hitboxes owing to his size.
@@enjoyer2227 He was so unforgiving that I completely changed how I played the game in order to beat him (going from an offensive, relentless style to minimaxing for defense & status resistances).

@@user-iz3mk6ni4sit also means two horns in another language (latin I think) it's an absolutely genius name
espinas was created in like 2008 lol
@@nintilla9973 Nah, Diablos is only a Spanish name. In Latin two horns is "duo cornua"
A hard body, fire that can poison and paralyzed foes, can fly, and all part of it's body filled with poison spike. This thing is a living definition of "I'm fucking build different"

When you realize this tank counters all elder dragons(explanation in reply)...
Just so you know I mean mid tier
Kushala by poison and not being effected by wind, Teo and Luna by physicality and fire resistant, velk by fire and tankiness, chameleos by poison resistant and physicality, vaal hazak by tankiness and physicality, namielle is the only one that counters espinas with water beams, because they could break through the shell because physics exist💀
@@guanabana7760 espinas counters chameleos with fire & paralysis
@@RustyhairedAlp9575 true, forgot that chameleos was weak to fire and Para.

@@ConstructmanPsion That's why he said "stand-in"...
Hmmm, this theme could really use some more flutes, like as a counterpoint/answer-and-call to the main melody. It just needs something more.
Nah its fine
It really fits how hectic the fight is. The theme is perfect the way it is.

Kinda sounds like one of those "MHFG - Highlands (High Rank) but it never starts" memes :D
Don't get me wrong this monster is pretty cool but is it wrong for me to expect more from this fight? He kinda was just another rathalos with a deviljho rage mechanic and diablos charge. Maybe his hype came more from his frontier inclusion than his actual fight.
He was created around the same time as monsters like Tigrex. so yeah, he is more classic and grounded compared to newer flagship level monsters.
Espinas is kind of a relic of his time
Did a Rath mate with a Monoblos to create Espinas?
That ain’t how biology works

Espinas has a pot belly lol
what a silly fella 😜
This music gives me gruntled anxiety.
This monster is actually really fun to bad his hammer only has one element instead of possibly two
Two elements are usually for dual blades, where Espinas' dbs do indeed have both fire and poison
@@shadytriceratops not even poison sadly especially what they did to elemental hammer bros
Dual elements are only for the sub and rare only as far as I know
It can seem a bit bland at first, but in game it's incredibly fitting.
Coca Cola Espinas
something about espinas stance is threating lol

great that he’s in Sunbreak but I wish they made him harder
Difficulty is subjective. I think he’s pretty difficult to fight. Charge attacks do extreme damage, his fireballs are one of the most unforgiving attacks to get hit by in the game, and many of his attacks have large hitboxes owing to his size.
@@enjoyer2227 He was so unforgiving that I completely changed how I played the game in order to beat him (going from an offensive, relentless style to minimaxing for defense & status resistances).

The reason it isn't exactly the same is because what we thought was Epinas' theme, was just the high rank theme of the Great Forest.
