So, what I am getting from the lore is this:
Gaismagorm live most of their lives deep underground, tunneling through the bedrock in search of a nest to call their own. When they sense a significant source of energy, they tear away at the earth above them, forming the telltale craters in which to release the Qurio. In exchange for the Qurio feeding on the blood of monsters, they bring back the bioenergy for Gaismagorm to taste once he calls them back. If the energy is plentiful, then Gaismagorm will fully emerge to establish a permanent home with plenty to eat. However, if the Qurio come back with insufficient energy, then Gaismagorm will move on and continue it's search. The Qurio possess a minor form of the Frenzy because a frenzied monster will release all of it's energy in a maddened craze, thus giving the Qurio plenty of material to bring back to their master. However, much like Gore Magala, the Frenzy has no effect on Elder Dragons and it doesn't work well with humans. Plus, humans lack the nutrients that Qurio prefer, which is why humans are normally safe from them. Of course, based on Tadori's claim, this is a learned behavior rather than instinct, hence the plague.
Malzeno feeds on fresh blood, but Gaismagorm threatens it's food supply, hence why they are natural enemies. 50 years prior, the Qurio attacked Malzeno, but became addicted to his blood. This is where Malzeno figured out that, by offering his own blood and energy, the Qurio will be too distracted to feed on much else. With only a single main source of blood and energy, Gaismagorm is tricked into thinking that there isn't much to eat up top, plus Malzeno benefits from the Qurio's Frenzy and makes it his weapon. However, in order to maintain this ruse, Malzeno will need to constantly replenish his body by hunting more frequently than normal. This increased activity is why people believed that Malzeno was responsible for the anomaly when in fact he was just trying to prevent an even greater disaster from emerging.
Gaismagorm is likely based off of Satan from the religion of Christianity.

I can absolutely agree, i had this horrible sinking feeling in my gut, knowing that Lunagaron was probably the last thing alive in the area, and knowing that if i killed it, i would be doing exactly what the Qurio’s host wanted. And when you finally, begrudgingly, kill the werewolf, there’s no happy fanfare. There’s no victory, no win. Just eerie silence, with nothing but insects and the wind. Considering the overall shape (minus the two more limbs), the weird mouth, and the fact that it is a subterranean dragon, I can see Gaismagorm be phylogenetically related to the serpents gods dragons of base Rise. Like, the serpents could have diverged from a fossorial common ancestor a long, long time ago, lost the two other limbs, becoming lighter in the process, and took to the skies with their strange way of being airborne, only digging when it's time to breed (maybe that's why their front limbs are still functional). Meanwhile, the archdemon kept a subterranean lifestyle, evolved stronger limbs to be more efficient at digging and developped a symbiotic relationship with the Qurios, or those things could be its larval stage, I mean, it was stated in the game that it's a symbiotic relationship (and I tend to think it's the case), but maybe this detail was inaccurate on purpose.

The sheer symbolism across this monster is astound, allow me to list all that I’ve found:
It has six limbs, six horns (two pairs on its head, one pair on its back) , and its mouth forms a six pointed star (if you include the roof of the mouth) when opened. As we all know, 666 is regarded by many as the ‘mark of the beast’.
Its horns are spiraled and thick like a goat’s, an animal often associated with the devil, and it’s head is shaped like a serpent. In the story of Adam and Eve, Lucifer takes the form of a serpent in order to trick Eve into eating fruit from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.
Its theme is *filled* with tri-tones, which were often regarded as satanic in medieval European music. (See 1:45-1:48)
It lives in a massive pit and throughout the fight is driven back deeper in. In biblical myth, Satan exists in/will be cast into hell during judgement day, which in Dante’s Inferno is depicted as a multilayered abyss.
This one is a bit of a stretch, but I have to say it nonetheless:
It feeds by sucking in qurio and swallowing them whole. In many renaissance paintings, Hell is depicted as a large mouth that swallows people whole. The qurio drain the blood and life-essence from monsters, and are supplementarily fed upon by Gaismagorm. In some technical sense, Gaismagorm swallows whole the very souls of the monsters its Qurio kill, like hell itself swallowing the damned.

With Sunbreak's, or more like Elgado's Proof of a Hero played during the last phase of Gaismagorm slay quest, while Kamura's Proof of a Hero played during the last phase of Narwa the Allmother slay quest.
By the way, they added some interesting moves for Narwa the Allmother in Master Rank. As well as making her ultimate attack look more imposing to match with Gaismagorm's. For example, she pulls a total of 9 Dragonators from the ground when she prepares to fire her Sapphire Star instead of 6 Dragonators back in High Rank. You don't have to fight Ibushi first, just straight up goes to the main target. Malzeno also came to help us fight the Allmother to make things spicier, and yes, he is already on powered up state so you can morb with Malzeno to attack the Goddess by using wyvern riding.
Imo, they put the emphasize that both Gaismagorm and Narwa the Allmother are equal in power and threat level quite well.

Holy crap, this guy's fight. It was...amazing.
Not as hard as Allmother Narwa's, though. It was easier because he's so slow, and his attacks are very easy to see coming. But wow, it blows her out of the water in everything except the music in terms of pure spectacle. From its red crystal meteor shower to its massive red energy balls to its super-mega-ultra-death-beam, it's pretty much Frontier-level spectacle now.
As for overall power, this guy has GOT to be a Black Dragon-tier threat. I mean, he can make a gigantic crater, send out vampiric Khezu/moth crosses (that may or may not be his larval form) to gather blood and energy for miles around, and his sheer resilience on top of that.

The demon whose strength came from its minions, Qurio, that have gathered plentiful of life energy which they absorbed / stolen from the monsters of Elgado region. As without them, Gaismagorm wouldn't have been this powerful and very likely only get as strong as the 1st phase of his slay quest. The parallel example should be like a Zinogre who does not have enough number of Fulgur bugs on its body to be able to enter the infamous supercharged state.
Similarly, Thunder Serpent Narwa would have not been able to ascend to a new level of 'Divinity', without the act of Wind Serpent Ibushi willingly sacrificing himself to give a massive boost of power for his partner by letting Narwa absorbing his own life energy which killed him in the process.
In short, both of the big bads of this MH title are dependant on something in order for them to get at the peak of their power and stay in a good shape. Which reminds me of Safi'jiiva who does Heavily relies on bioenergy stock from the veins of the land to keep itself at full strength and heal its injuries.

This monster's design is very well done. Of course the demonic appearance given by the fringehead-fish-like mouth, twisted horns and fire, are the things that define the fact that it's the cause of all trouble in the Reign but if you look at its anatomy, you'll see that (my interpretation) it's a very ancient or at least specialized Elder Dragon. It's got six limbs, two smaller front for stabilizing, two reduced hind as they are probably not used very much and two enlarged front to dig. Now, the two larger ones are the most intriguing and made me question some speculative evolution: were they specialized wings turned into hands or are they limbs that never became wings?
These details are awesome and encourage players to further explore the videogame.

I think Gaismagorm Is probably closest to Shara Ishvalda, as both are subterranean dragons with 6 limbs, and possibly Gogmazios too due to the size and very similar body structure. Despite being classified as elder dragons, Narwa, Ibushi and Amatsu are clearly just very powerful leviathans that somehow evolved to live in the sky (I believe Amatsu is quite closely related to the serpents), but due to having only 4 limbs they are probably quite distant to the rest of the 6-limbed elder dragons The wingtalon description probably references that originally its digging arms were wings (I think both Shara and Gaismagorm descend from a winged ancestor similar to Gogmazios), but now of course they cannot be used as wings anymore.
Also, even if at first glance Gaismagorm's mouth may look similar to he serpents', it is really just a normal mouth (you can see that the lower jaw never changes, all those crazy-looking projections of the mouth are just the lips, which it can open and close), while Narwa and Ibushi's lower jaw is clearly divided, as it can become wider or narrower (and they have a second set of inner jaws).
As for the Qurio virus, I think both the Magalas and Gaismagorm evolved their symbioses independently, as other possibly closely related monsters (Shara and Gogmazios, maybe even Vastrax and Nergigante too) do not have any relationship with a virus (that we know of), but maybe their common ancestor was symbiotic and they just lost the symbiosis while they diverged.

And don't worry if you have only played Rise, it is nice to see newcomers to the series, we all strated at some point so it is natural that you don't know all the monsters (because they are a lot). I would recommend you to check a video about Shara Ishvalda (the final boss of Iceborne), it has a really cool design.

Delayed fighting this lug forever and finally did it today. Loved the fight.
I loved Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, and throughout this fight, I was getting a familiar vibe. Who exactly was he reminding me of?
When I got to the end and saw the description of the Archdemon Wingtalon, "With no hint of the divine heights it once knew" it hit me immediately. Several of its attacks are at the least reminiscent if not downright upgrades of none other than 4U Shagaru Magala, the Wheel of Heaven and its multiphase battle. It's frame is built in an extremely similar manner. Where as Shagaru is described as a heavenly and angelic being, it just happens that Gais is based on a fallen angel. The idea of it being a 'fallen' Shagaru is so spine tinglingly good.
To further add to this, the qurio are said to provide their own form of frenzy virus outside of their infection, which has the implication that the two are indeed related in some form whether through common ancestor or a split off. Combine this with the fact that they just happened to bring back both Magalas in the same game, and it looks to be more than coincidence.
Hopefully we'll eventually get a confirmation through a relation chart again like how they confirmed Dire Miralis and Fatalis were related.
