  • I showcase a lovely hi-beat limited anniversary Grand Seiko that has recently skyrocketed in secondary market value. In this video I show the details of the now sold out watch, and talk pricing and history. Don't you love it when a non-Rolex appreciates like a Rolex does?
    Thank you to Chris for lending in this stunner! He recently started a watch channel with another friend of mine- Karan. Check out their channel called 'AboutTime' here:

    Rolex appreciates because of brand recognition. Grand Seiko has been ramping up their marketing lately. They’ve opened up boutiques on Rodeo Dr., Madison Ave, SOHO, Miami, and the world famous 7 Place Vendôme, home of former Jaeger-LeCoutre. It’ll be a matter of time before these under appreciated GS become collectible and sought after. If you’re an enthusiast, I would hold onto as many as I could.

  • @MaloCeeEss

    Yep, count me as someone who is tired of the “flip” game. I could care less about horological value retention; I buy it if I like it and I wear it if I bought it. If I invest money then I’ll use any number of financial programs that are designed to grow in value not hope that a watch will hold its value. Honestly, you’re better off putting your investment money in precious metals like gold or silver, not horological products using antique technology like mechanical movements.
    No offense bro but “flippers” make this hobby no fun, you guys do nothing but drive prices up, much like the whole Xbox debacle we saw this past Christmas. Take care, I dig your channel.

    • @OBWAT
      @OBWAT 3 года назад +2

      I think he's more of a catch-and-release type flipper who wants to experience a large number of watches, rather than a flip-for-profit type. As he said, he's bought several grand seikos and lost money on all of them. No one buys a GS to make money and this watch has only recently started trading above retail.

    • @impact0r

      Yea man, I’m very much over Rolex. Their watches are solid but certainly don’t bring anywhere near the same value as Grand Seiko at the price the market has set. For the money, the horological value, and the overall package, I’d take a modern Omega, Zenith, and a Grand Seiko all day every day

    I sold all my vintage Seiko chronographs to acquire a GS, the SBGR 001. The hell I care if the resale value is less. Mine is significant in terms of its history as it was the first mechanical Grand Seiko after the company decided to revive the line in 1998. It belongs to a neo vintage generation where vintage meets modern. A closed caseback with the lion engraving, Seiko-GS logo marking on the dial, mid-century size of 38mm. This reminded me of the times when GS was exclusively sold in Japan and few people worldwide knew about the brand.

    GS should make more 38-39mm dressy watches like this. Not 40-41mm.

    It’s Mercedes vs Lexus. Lexus is in a rapid growth period like Grand Seiko. Mercedes is like Rolex it’s an older luxury brand and It’s not in a rapid growth period but it’s constantly growing. 5 to 10 years their will be major drop in availability for GS.

    Had I just not bought a JLC the day I was offered this model at an AD at a discount I would have bought it. I don’t really think about it though.

    Ever tried selling women's jewelry used? Saw my mother sell a necklace my dad had paid 4000 dollars for. She got 300. Jewelry depreciates from first purchase down to almost nothing. That's how it is.

    The watch enthusiasts conception that watches are investment is dumb one, you wont be rich trading watches maybe break even or make pennies but i guess watching some videos on youtube about a pristine 1970s Daytona bought for 2k and sold for 280k makes some believe watches are investment and thats not the case. Wearing watches is a hobby first and foremost.

    I only have one watch. Its a 40th anniversary easy reader timex. Been worn daily for 3 years. Still looks brand new, no scratch or hairline or whatnot. I dont know how people scratch their watches, especially luxury ones 😌

    When I buy watches I keep them so when I bought the sbgn005 it didn't bother me that it'll depreciate in value. I plan to keep it for a long time 🍻

    I prefer my GS spring drive to those hi-beat models. And I would not want to own a Rolex.
