No brand so consistently makes me catch my breath like Grand Seiko. Stunning. Absolutely stunning.
Old mens watch.... you have to be 50plus
@@aleksdemirel3646 Imagine having this childish thought process 🤡
@@LockheedMartinF22Raptor7 very mature comment
@@aleksdemirel3646 - no 40+, because I'd buy one.
So why have I never seen one on someone's wrist? Stunning tech and quality but bland.
Grand Seiko always stands out the most at the macro level. They are so ridiculously clean and perfect that you can see exactly where the money goes.
THIS. This is the watchfinder I love, no clickbait. Just unbelievable videography on a beautiful watch with a perfect voiceover.
NOT what I'm waiting for. 36mm with date PLEASE Grand Seiko :)
Being a owner of the SBGR251 it still amazes me how they can produce this level of finishing to every small detail on such a sleek 37mm case. And that 9S65A movement with it's 72h of power reserve is one of the most elegant workhorses on the market. All of this carefully handmade luxury for a fraction of the cost of a Rolex DJ. Why people still covets them so much is beyond me. Learn about watched for real instead and join us who truly love them.
I got my GS Heritage Shunbun Cherry blossom and I freakin love it! I can't stop looking at the beautiful dial!
I am so excited about getting one. My moderate collection includes a Cartier Galbee (fancy), a Tissot PRX (Everyday), a Longines Master Collection (formal), and now hopefully a Grand Seiko for pure class. It's been my dream watch for years. Absolutely love the concept behind the watch and the engineering genius.
@watchfinderandco2 thank you so much, a little unsure how I claim via telegram though.
I was fortunate enough to pick up one of the SLGH009s when they were available. The specs are 100% what drew me to that watch. Really glad they are doing a non limited edition with a nearly identical build, cause it’s an amazing timepiece.
And yes, the 44GS looks so much better on a canvas/leather strap.
Since I purchased my 373, I've never worn the bracelet 😅
Part of me wishes they went with a gold GS logo to warm the dial a bit more, but otherwise pretty flawless.
I've got to get myself a spring drive first. That hand sweep is just too mesmerizing.
The most impressive part of this watch is the movement. 36000 and 80. Those are ridiculous numbers. Mr Hands, I don’t know wth all that technical talk about the movement means, but I absolutely enjoy it. Please continue to include these discussions in the videos when possible.
“Mr. Hands” made me smile. Well done.
Thank you! We can all use a little levity these days. Cheers!
It's beautiful but unfortunately not very accurate. I own a white birch and it was 23 seconds / day too fast. After 2 months service in Japan it's still 13 seconds too fast. Many owners of watches with this movement experience the same thing (there's a long thread about this issue on watchuseek).
@@MTCBKK Lots of brands experiencing issues with their covid era movement releases these days, you'll see the same with Omega and Zenith too. I'm sure they'll all get it down eventually.
@@rousseau327 I see, I haven't heard anything from other brands. Strangely enough, my SBGP017 High accuracy Quartz Grand Seiko is less accurate than my other, older GS 9F Quartz watches. It should be the other way around.
Hi beat, no power reserve, and your mellow voiceover, as smooth as Zaratsu polish as well informed as a sort of Horological Gandalf....Magic watch, magic video.
This is their best dial, would be cool if they had other color options and no date
I commented that the SBGH295 dial would be a wonderful option.
Great review... You forgot to mention that it is not Stainless Steel but Everbrillant steel which is more corrosion resistant and harder... Hence more difficult to polish. Agree with you, they got it all right with this one!!!
Everbrilliant steel is just a marketing term
@@diavalus If you were well informed, you would know it's NOT a marketing term. Ever Brilliant Steel is the real deal.
@@chris_4477 again, that is a marketing term and not a technical name.
@@diavalus You're insinuating that Ever Brilliant Steel is "just" a marketing term, rather than a factual improvement to common steel. Of course it is technically a marketing term. Same thing like Oystersteel. Like what do you expect them to do? Call it by its exact molecular comoposition 🤣.
@@chris_4477 "it's NOT a marketing term" followed immediately by an admission It's a marketing term . Dear god you're insufferable.
The biggest problem with owning a GS is that you get lost in looking at the light play off the case that you actually forget to look at time.
So true. That is the true meaning of Zaratsu polishing that so many misunderstand. I too find it mesmerizing
Everyone's talking about the macro, honestly my jaw dropped at 2:43 when the dial catches the light juuust right and it looked less like a dial but more like a window to some snow outside
If I were to be incredibly picky, the only thing I feel that they could improve is the spacing between GS and Grand Seiko, as they are too close together. That's it.
The bracelet design is a copy of the last gen Speedy Pro and doesn’t look that great too.
Like it BUT it’s almost identical to the Seiko SARX057 or the SJE073/SARA015 available for a fraction of the price (at least on the dial side)
I thought dial texture is much like a SRPH78J1, if going purely on dial. Seiko will definitely need to do much better differentiating GS from its base watches
Night Birch Spring Drive is the one I'm waiting for 🙂
Absolutely sublime video and watch featured. Love it! More content like this!
Love what Grand Seiko is doing! They are always coming out with unique styles unlike rolex with the same boring design and snobby ADs. Thank God I never bought a Rolex and discovered the wonders of Grand Seiko!
@@zebra8961 but you're getting a GS around $8k - $15k. But the actual value if you compare it to Patek or A Lange is already a 30k - 40k discount.
GS has a pretty boring design and look. Nothing compare to Rolex or even ALS
They don't look nice to me, I don't feel quality (especially on bracelets, considering their price tag), they don't hold value.. I have a feeling that bloggers around the world just got some money about GS to advertise them.
@@aspOLmeR Exactly!
@@zebra8961 if you buy only watches that hold their value, then I think you’re in this hobby for the wrong reason.
I like GS, but my last one ran 25-30 seconds fast a day, and all my Rolex run -2 to +1 .. they’ve got a ways to go.
If that’s the case I would return it for a service coz it shouldn’t.
Return it for a service. I've had Rolexes that run that fast when they shouldn't too, it's not a brand thing, all brands have faulty movements from time to time.
@@rousseau327 I did.. waited 2 months while Seiko worked on it.. the Hi-Beat movement is known for this issue, it's not always repairable sadly. I sold the watch.
@@Sams911 if it was under warranty still then fortunately in Australia they are legally obliged to give your money back or replace it if it does not live up to manufacturer’s performance claims.
I love this channel, properly gives credit where due, well done fellas
Love the artistic brush strokes on that dial.
Beautifully written review. I enjoyed every minute. Your GS videos are what inspired me to get my first GS watch the SBGT241
Love the 44gs slimmer thickness, but prefer the power reserve indicator
Fight me!
Grand Seiko is a watch you never thought you would own in your collection but, once you have one, it’s a watch you never thought you would owned more than one.
I love grand seiko, and I own 2 of them, and those 2 being my most expensive pieces in my collection. That being said, they are really beating the same design to death here. They have thousands of different models, all with such slight differences that they all start to look alike.
It really takes away from any exclusivity a limited run might have, because there's some other model 90% similar that's easier to get. They had a banger with that recent heartbeat movement but seiko fundamentally began as everyman watch and shook the industry with their innovations. I don't want to feel like that era is over
I'm not sure about it taking away exclusivity that limited runs have. Sure, not all of their "limited" runs stick, but you'll see a good number of them retain their desirability and value. To name a few, we have watches like the SBGJ227 Peacock, SBGH267 Whirlpool, The SBGH269 Autumn, SBGA387 Kirazuri, SLGA007 Lake Suwa, and there are a few Asia-only limited editions (Thailand in particular comes to mind) like the SBGY021/SBGY025 that you likely won't come across often at all unless GS decides to expand the release to other markets
In my opinion, you cannot have both exclusivity and accessibility, at least not across the board, all the time. So, if you love the fact that you don't have to play AD waiting games or pay out the ass at 2-3x retail for a plain jane entry level watch (of the brand), then you need to expect there to be some redundancy, to improve accessibility to these some of these designs.
Absolutely adore this model… saw it in a boutique recently and just… wow. ❤
I wish this dial were available with the Evolution 9 case.
They just need to give this watch the dial of the SBGH295, or at least the option. Virtual grail material for many. I handled the 295 and let me tell you, that dial speaks!
I have 1971 chronometer KS 5246-6010 with 28K beats, extremely accurate and highly collectible beautiful piece even 50 years later, this new grand seiko is the future classic as well. 36K beats is a bit too high which is affecting the watch to be worn out much faster, so King Seiko slowed it down from KS 45 with 36K beats to 28K in later KS 52, 46 and so on. Though I like that it is slightly larger with 40mm rather than mine 35/36 mm KS 52. Thanx for the video!
The movement finishing is not quite to the level of the next tier JL, ALS, AB reside. The movement advancement and engineering is more impressive than the next tier. First the Spring Drive and now this. Absolutely amazing. I just wish this watch and Spring Drive watches come in 43/45 lug to lug form factor. Can't wait until the large watch trend gives way to many more unisex sizes.
It's fairly close to JLC movements in the same price range. Whatever it lacks in movement finishing compared to similarly priced JLCs, it makes up for in the dial and the case imo
True, this is a great watch. But the best of all they have? Dial is mostly a winner, I’m happy with the date at 3 o’clock but would rather have it at 6. The dial texture is amazing, no other word for it! Handset is another mostly winner, I’d rather have some lume. Case is definitely a winner, and is one of my favourites. The movement though? Give me a spring-drive, dump the power reserve and, with the suggestions mentioned above, I’d sell a kidney to but the watch!
Keep up the great work, guys, and keep well :-)
Had me laughing with the woolly mammoth bit 🤣 😂
They're getting more and more expensive with each release. 1,100,000 yen in Japan. I guess, in the US it is around $10,000 to $11,000
I love GS, I have one, but I’ve heard some uncomfortable inaccuracy stories about the 9SA5 movement. However, the 32xx movements of a famous Swiss company are also reportedly a bit, ahem, lemony. And a correction to your text: you said -3/+3 spd accuracy when it’s -3/+5.
Superb review. Thank you for that beautiful macros. What a watch!!
I like the 9SA5-movement a lot and was about to buy either a White Birch or a Grey Birch. I heard a lot, however, about issues with the daily rates of this movement. It seems that it tends to run fast. I vividly recall the opera Omega had adopting the Co-Axial-movement some 20 years ago and it seems the Japanese take on this, the Dual-Impulse-movement has the same issues. That was the reason why I settled for the SBGH273 Shubun with the more pedestrian 9S85-movement. Hi Beat and a stunning accuracy of around 1 s/d.
OMG, mate, that's legit my dilemma. I'm so torn between the SBGH273 and the SLGH013. I think the dial on the SBGH273 is actually nicer than the SLGH013, but I absolutely adore the 9sa5 movement. Decisions, decisions...
This guy could narrate the phone book and I'd watch
Seiko does a great job on its dials. My Seiko Premier is a work of art. Their attention to detail is mind boggling.
I want this with Spring Drive.
This video drew my eye to the model and finally saw it in the flesh today. Wow! What an absolute stunner in person!
There is no point buying a GS at the price being retailed nowadays that is not a spring drive movement, that’s what gs is and what no other watchmaker can do. However nice this watch is, there is a line out the door of brands with similar movement at similar price that is far more collectible and retain their value better.
That dial looks shockingly similar to the SARX055
Better (and more value for money) is the SJE073 or SARA015. Merely the movement of the SLGH013 is obviously better.
Another great video. I love the GS brand, especially the Spring Drive movement. Do you think that they will this watch with the spring drive movement in it, that would be my dream watch.
Lovely watch but either a 9F Quartz or Spring Drive is the Grand Seiko I'm waiting for.
I like automatics too, but my GS 9F quartz has not skipped a sec in six months straight.
Perplexing accuracy..and it is very elegant too. A gem.
This reminds me of my own SARX055 baby snowflake dial
I’m yearning for a bracelet update! Just an on-the-fly micro-adjustment is all they need, I think
And heavier gauge clasps without hollow links.
Hope one day they might consider doing a dateless model though - as that for me would just about be "end game" perfect!...and then the only other issue would be.... finding the outstanding balance of £7750 to make it minel 😂
They have a few dateless models. IMO the best being SBGW289
In person the dial and polished finish is unbelievable, I don’t know how they do it when higher up companies can’t or won’t do. The price tag is the only reason I haven’t bought one, can’t justify spending 9k for a watch that will prob lose value when I can spend the same on Rolex and already have my watch up 50% higher at the very least..
Check out "the citizen" citizens answer to grand seiko, their caliber 0100 is accurate to 1 second a year, and other models accurate to 5 seconds a year, similar to grand seikos 9f quartz, but with solar. they even have a mechanism that adjusts the seconds hand always keeping it perfectly aligned. they havent "arrived" yet like GS but it looks like theyre really working on it.
There's something so special about the 44GS case! Perhaps it reminds me of the legendary vintage VFA.
Is this piece available with a springdrive as well?
Yes! I would love a No Date version of this watch. Heck, any Seiko/Grand Seiko...
Waiting for the Grand Seiko with a meteorite dial.
Why do you guys make me want to buy every watch you showcase ?!
GS on another level... but to me, to make the purchase purchase it needs to have the spring drive movement which is another marvel of watch making in the past century... for hi beat movements you can go many places in Europe, for a spring drive you can only go to japan.
First of all I must say that I went onto your website and omg what gorgeous watches! Now I understand more the difference between even quality budget watches and high-end watches. The watches you sell are sleek and beautiful. It's hard not to stop and gaze at every one. It's nice to look onto something beautiful that you know you'll never own. Lol. I have two Seikos and I love them both. Both budget ones. One solar and one automatic. They're very comfortable and not heavy. Love the looks of the Grand Seikos. My Seiko automatic has a beautiful blue rotating bezel and a beautiful blue dial. And it's not at all too thick.
The best watch content in the internet!!
The David Attenborough reference was brilliant.
This watch I've been waiting for so long. I wonder how is the dial different from Seiko SJE073-j?
Thanks for review!
My Seiko Sarx55 is the cheaper alternative to this specific grand Seiko you have here. I actually prefer my Seiko over this one because of value/maintenance. both are beautiful watches and the grand Seiko is a step up nicer than my Sarx55 but is it thousands more for the step up? Imo it isn't but I would love to own a grand Seiko one day but I'm very happy with my baby snowflake Sarx55 with titanium case/bracelet.
Own one too, agree with everything except the time keeping. More than +12 sec a day.
Great video. This is my favorite of the bunch too. This model is incredible.
Sorry does this have a luminous feature?
Is the clasp still crap?
Nice review and I love GS, but a bit over the top. "Three major revolutions that have ever happened to a watch" then say the High Beat is the third, is definitely hyperbole. I would put the Spring Drive ahead of it and likely many others from other brands as well.
What material is the dial actually made off? It may look beautiful, but I can't help but see a glass-fibre/resin compound.
How long have you been making these videos I've been subscribed 3 year's & a big fan ?
Watchfinder - welcome back. We missed you!
Nailed that power reserve.
I’m selling my date just chocolate dial for the slgh013 the only thing that I don’t like about them are the bracelets and clasps but they are getting better all the time , thanks
I'm not a rich man. I bought a cheap sieko and I absolutely love it. If my numbers come in I'd snap this up in a second
Now i think about it, they already made the watch i wanted, the Kira zuris, with stunning dials on a 44gs case with spring drive.
And they somehow avoid puting a snowflake dial on a 44gs case... i wonder why.
You Already said it. Lose the date and the script at the bottom and we are in business.
Is 12 hr markers are shorter than the rest ??? oh no, i can`t buy new watch with my OCD.
Also check polished line on the lugs, it's wider near the dial. This was subtle detail on GMT hi-beats 44gs case. Now it's in your face.
Also the bezel proportions of inner and outer ring is odd. Inner circle is unplesently wide.
Blue screws gone on this caliber again?
Someday GS will make the watch I can buy.
It would be better as a spring drive over "high beat"
Hey guys, a doubt. Since spring drive has digital component in it, wouldn’t the watch gets spoiled like quartz eventually ? Unlike mechanical watches?
Have you seen the Habuka White Snow…?
Excellent video as always. Thank you.
Watching it I was thinking that's not going forwards and backwards, And it's not, Stands to reason that there would be an efficiency gain, I love it, checks insurance policy....
This watch is simply amazing. Unfortunately the closest I’ve gotten to getting a taste of what GS has to offer is the Sarx029 which I love.
Check out the SARX055. I think it's similarly priced compared to the -029, and has a very similar texture to this Grand Seiko, albeit without the depth of color
I wish GS would give their watches proper names instead of serial codes.
I agree. It’s like they’re trying too hard to avoid hype or nostalgia and let the watch speak for itself. If that’s the case, then why even name the company “Grand Seiko”.
How about showing us your opinion on a Seiko Astron? I don't think you ever did one of those. (my favourite SSJ003 perhaps)
Beautiful, however, I wished GS would create more modest-sized watches, say in 37mm. 40mm for such a plain dialed watch looks oversized in my opinion.
When this watch first came out it made me wonder if the SRPH78J1 textured dial (although gold) was nicked from the GS factory? It was an unusual dial when it came out, and largely overlooked.
Nobody likes Presage!
@@gmshadowtraders Maybe you should speak for yourself in the future.
@@shiraz1736 Umm... and maybe you should learn to read? He asked why that watch line was largely overlooked. What explanation would you give to him, mr know-it-all?
@gmshadowtraders - @shiraz is correct, “nobody likes Presage” - so they didn’t sell any at all then?? When you make sweeping statements like that you imply that you speak for everybody. To come back with a rude comment like that is frankly very poor.
"Accuracy isn't reported as high as Rolexes.."
I have a pepsi Rolex. To invoke it in the same sentence as 'accuracy' would be to ridicule myself.
More importantly, in random discussions I happen to have had with friends about their Rolex, not ONE, repeat - NOT ONE - of them has vouch for their Rolex's accuracy. Want to talk accuracy? For any brand that is not called Patek, try Girard Perregaux or any Omega with Mr Daniel's co-axial escapement.
It’s 9,500 USD in case you were wondering
Masters of ‘less is more’ perfection
I prefer the secondhand sweep of the spring drive.
The crown seems big compared to the rest of the watch.
I hope we get this same watch with spring drive.
Just missing the spring drive
Beautiful piece of art ❤️
That thing is ticking art. Beautiful!
Stunning! …and love the details about the movement, didn’t know how revolutionary the 9SA5 actually is 👏🏼👏🏼
My grail Grand Seiko. One day I will own this beauty.
