    Being a owner of the SBGR251 it still amazes me how they can produce this level of finishing to every small detail on such a sleek 37mm case. And that 9S65A movement with it's 72h of power reserve is one of the most elegant workhorses on the market. All of this carefully handmade luxury for a fraction of the cost of a Rolex DJ. Why people still covets them so much is beyond me. Learn about watched for real instead and join us who truly love them.

  • @rajgill7576
    @rajgill7576 Год назад +9

    I love grand seiko, and I own 2 of them, and those 2 being my most expensive pieces in my collection. That being said, they are really beating the same design to death here. They have thousands of different models, all with such slight differences that they all start to look alike.
    It really takes away from any exclusivity a limited run might have, because there's some other model 90% similar that's easier to get. They had a banger with that recent heartbeat movement but seiko fundamentally began as everyman watch and shook the industry with their innovations. I don't want to feel like that era is over

    • @rousseau327
      @rousseau327 Год назад +4

      I'm not sure about it taking away exclusivity that limited runs have. Sure, not all of their "limited" runs stick, but you'll see a good number of them retain their desirability and value. To name a few, we have watches like the SBGJ227 Peacock, SBGH267 Whirlpool, The SBGH269 Autumn, SBGA387 Kirazuri, SLGA007 Lake Suwa, and there are a few Asia-only limited editions (Thailand in particular comes to mind) like the SBGY021/SBGY025 that you likely won't come across often at all unless GS decides to expand the release to other markets
      In my opinion, you cannot have both exclusivity and accessibility, at least not across the board, all the time. So, if you love the fact that you don't have to play AD waiting games or pay out the ass at 2-3x retail for a plain jane entry level watch (of the brand), then you need to expect there to be some redundancy, to improve accessibility to these some of these designs.

    I like the 9SA5-movement a lot and was about to buy either a White Birch or a Grey Birch. I heard a lot, however, about issues with the daily rates of this movement. It seems that it tends to run fast. I vividly recall the opera Omega had adopting the Co-Axial-movement some 20 years ago and it seems the Japanese take on this, the Dual-Impulse-movement has the same issues. That was the reason why I settled for the SBGH273 Shubun with the more pedestrian 9S85-movement. Hi Beat and a stunning accuracy of around 1 s/d.

    Now i think about it, they already made the watch i wanted, the Kira zuris, with stunning dials on a 44gs case with spring drive.
    And they somehow avoid puting a snowflake dial on a 44gs case... i wonder why.

    Is 12 hr markers are shorter than the rest ??? oh no, i can`t buy new watch with my OCD.
    Also check polished line on the lugs, it's wider near the dial. This was subtle detail on GMT hi-beats 44gs case. Now it's in your face.
    Also the bezel proportions of inner and outer ring is odd. Inner circle is unplesently wide.
    Blue screws gone on this caliber again?
    Someday GS will make the watch I can buy.

    It would be better as a spring drive over "high beat"

    Hey guys, a doubt. Since spring drive has digital component in it, wouldn’t the watch gets spoiled like quartz eventually ? Unlike mechanical watches?

    This watch is simply amazing. Unfortunately the closest I’ve gotten to getting a taste of what GS has to offer is the Sarx029 which I love.

      Check out the SARX055. I think it's similarly priced compared to the -029, and has a very similar texture to this Grand Seiko, albeit without the depth of color

    I wish GS would give their watches proper names instead of serial codes.

      I agree. It’s like they’re trying too hard to avoid hype or nostalgia and let the watch speak for itself. If that’s the case, then why even name the company “Grand Seiko”.

    Beautiful, however, I wished GS would create more modest-sized watches, say in 37mm. 40mm for such a plain dialed watch looks oversized in my opinion.

    When this watch first came out it made me wonder if the SRPH78J1 textured dial (although gold) was nicked from the GS factory? It was an unusual dial when it came out, and largely overlooked.

      @gmshadowtraders - @shiraz is correct, “nobody likes Presage” - so they didn’t sell any at all then?? When you make sweeping statements like that you imply that you speak for everybody. To come back with a rude comment like that is frankly very poor.

    "Accuracy isn't reported as high as Rolexes.."
    I have a pepsi Rolex. To invoke it in the same sentence as 'accuracy' would be to ridicule myself.
    More importantly, in random discussions I happen to have had with friends about their Rolex, not ONE, repeat - NOT ONE - of them has vouch for their Rolex's accuracy. Want to talk accuracy? For any brand that is not called Patek, try Girard Perregaux or any Omega with Mr Daniel's co-axial escapement.
