Sway's Universe is actually for the culture unlike many other supposed hip hop media platforms. Thanks so much Sway for this!!
It's about to be a De La weekend.
... Two words (I'm mortal)
But fans slid 'em both together and removed the apostrophe...
@@jamesmarie no doubt . Streaming 3 feet high and Rising now. Man I forgot how dope this whole album is!! Happy De La Soul weekend to all!!
🙏
@@jamesmarie such a dope line. Plus Im a huge fan of Little Dragon!
As a young Irish kid in Detroit I got dissed hard walking around with a Jungle Brothers cassette tape 😅 And De La effected my musical taste even to this day. For as much as the powers that be want us divided, people of all different ages, backgrounds and creeds are brought together by the music of De La Soul! RIP Dave 💜🌼
De La Soul NEVER broke up or made solo albums! They're that fuqqin DOPE!!!!! Rest In Beats Trugoy!!!! #DeLaSoul4Eva
Agreed!
Great point👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 a true group that couldn’t be shaken are stirred
Well... Plug 1 and Plug 2 did that First Serve album, but I heard you. Lol
Whew, the strength they have to do these interviews without Dave 😭🙏🏾
WORRRRD👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿❣
They've BEEN doing it even when he was alive!
Fosho’
No shit I’d be crying
Right 🙏🙏🙏
Selfishly, I wish Dave was here to see this full circle moment. De Las music on damn near every streaming platform. The way it should’ve been. Getting paid for their creation. And not robbed.
Deep down, I hope Dave went peacefully. I hope he is no longer in pain. I hope his fans, family and friends are okay.
Thank you this truly means a lot to my family we are trying to heal its a lot Dave was an amazing man my husband is his cousin so being around them is truly an honor a lot! I hope Cindy is seeing this and is so honored his sister would love to see this she is an amazing person such a beautiful soul her energy is so loving our whole family is so loving we take care of each other and we are always there for each other!! God bless!! 🙏❤️💜
Respect to Sway for being...Sway
RIP Dave, and all strength to Pos & Maseo for their loss
DE LA SOUL
Hip Hop legends
And childhood heroes 👍
This interview has me crying like a baby. But, i appreciate that these dudes pushed on and still did this minus one. R.I.P Dave.
Maseo is literally tryin to hold it together. I know that is so hard😢
I AM SO HAPPY THAT THEIR WORK IS FINALLY ON STREAMING!!!!! 😭🙏🏾
Hells yeah. Much as it pained me, I always refused to listen to their music on RUclips bc it was profiting Tommy Boy. And mg motto in regards to that situation will forever be, "Tommy ain't my mothafuckin boy".
took to long, and I never understood why
This interview made me so happy. I'm glad to see them out and about. I've been streaming De La all day. RIP Trugoy 🙏🏿
much love family
Breakadawnnnnnnn , Breakadawnnnnnnn....
I drive for a living, sometimes I drive in silence/no music! but I keep De La streaming in the background! Every spin counts! Yes I’m from Amityville! R.I.P. Dave!
Childhood hero’s of mine for sure!! The whole native tongue collective raised me. De La definitely made a way for the esoteric, different (weird) black youth. Thank you.👏🏾
I didn't think of myself as weird or even different. I wasn't and still ain't a street dude they just were so different then what hip hop was turning into back then. I was a 25 or 26 yr old young man idolizing teenagers.
Just seeing these brothers do their high school rhyme after all these years is beautiful. RIP Dave, Long Live De La Soul!
Literally had a aptitude test today for a job and listened to the entirety of "stakes is high" album as I took my test! De La Soul forever
Their best imo
❤️❤️❤️ let’s us know if you passed your test
@@theorderofthebees7308 oh I nailed that test! Thank you very much for the positive energy....
@@rashaudkelash2888 yay!!! Get it !!!!
I meet Mase a year ago in Coney Island. I told him I love your work, he smiled and said thanks. Simple ...thank you De la soul for 1989 and all the years of great music!
When a celebrity passes in hip-hop and they were a part of your life, you wish you could attend their service. Offer your condolences, pay your respects & give your thanks. Sway, thank you for providing us with this "service" for Dave. De La Soul forever!
"im on time dave" lmao it also was perfect timing to say that.that tear was about to come down my eyes lol
De La so down to earth. I remember running into them randomly at a fest in Chicago in the 90's. No entourage or nothing. Super cool dudes.
Haven't watched Sway in a long time but I see De La... I'm tuning in AUTOMATICALLY
Streaming 3 feet high and rising today all day. Mad respect to some true pioneers
Streaming all 6 albums on shuffle since available . The music is still so beautiful
This era is when I fell in love with Hip Hop. Queen La, Monie, De La, Blacksheep, Jungle Brothers, Tribe….. what a beautiful soulful intellectual amazing beautiful stylish fabulous BLACK movement….. Hip Hop. Peace and Love to All!!!
The music I grew up on. A young Hispanic kid growing up in L.A. glued to the TV watching Yo MTV Raps and the explosion of music coming through the screen and speakers blew my mind
Same ..Latina from queens..when I heard de la, Tribe ..my musical mind was opened..so beautiful and so glad I grew up to this..I remember when I first heard de la
Friendship goals , remembering your homie first rhythm ❤❤
These guys are criminally underrated today. The one thing about Hip-Hop culture that bothers me to no end is the lack of reverence for the legends who laid it down. In other genres you see contemporary artists show more gratitude for the forebears while in Hip-Hop you just see fool's talk about how they've "surpassed" them. Without De La Soul Hip-Hop would not mean nearly as much or be nearly as interesting. Rest in power Trugoy and long live De La Soul!
That’s all I’m listening to today 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
All month!
Me too🌼
I've been listening to these guys since 1989. Finally caught my first show in 2004, and I got to meet the guys afterwards. They couldn't have been nicer, just the best dudes. I'm stoked that they're finally getting on streaming and new fans can buy the records. De La Soul FOREVER. Thank you for everything.
❤
Timeless music with the best vibes possible. New generations and all the people who werent in tune will fall in love with De La Soul.
Sway is the Only place I would've trusted with De La first speaking out . REAL LOVE for the culture, the history, the values. The Only TRUSTED platform. Salute to all the true hip hop lifers, and long live Trugoy .
Say Word. 👊🏽
De la is the essence of hip hop no degrading woman no talks about killing people no talking about money nothing but pure lyrics n beats thank you for being a inspiration to me and a big part of my entire life I’m 42 now and I been vibing to y’all since I was 9 years old rip plug 2 Dave rip
This was great. We miss Dave but seeing how Pos and Mase are leaning on each other like family should makes me know Trugoy is smiling down on his brothers. DE LA FOREVER!!!!
There is an African Adage that states when a Griot dies a library burns- When I heard the news my heart filled with sadness. De La Soul was a group that nurtured my love for hip hop. Seeing them perform in San Francisco in 2006 along with KRS-1 , Dres and Prince Paul was a monumental moment in my life ......Thank you for the music and REST IN POWER "Trugoy the GOD Emcee"!!!!!!!!
I still remember as a young child riding in my dad's car and me and him rapping to "The Bizness" my favorite part was " I'm the D to the O , the V to the E, and can't another brother cook these delicacies" R.I.P Trugoy! Y'all have been in my life since I was born in 94 and I still listen to your CDs to this day keep rockin my brothers
OMG, that Beat Street reference killed me. 🥺😢 This was a phenomenal interview.
Yaaay Dela Soul. Congratulations Trugoy, Posdnuos and Maseo. 🕊🕊🕊🕊 fly high The Dove.
De La Soul Forever
Rest in peace Trugoy the Dove! De La Soul 4ever!
Been a Huge De La Fan since 91'. So glad they're getting the Love & Respect they've always Deserved. 💘
1989! Was there in NYC for the first time as a 19 year old… alphabet city, Union Square, etc… the music left an indelible mark on my life for sure
These guys are rap legends 🎤. One of the greatest rap groups of all time. Sorry for your loss 🥲
I love these brothers so much. Their music completely changed my life. RIB Dave.
Rip dave. Glad you guys are finally on streaming so more can be exposed to the greatness
Big facts!
This was so great. There's one point when Maseo is talking about how they had to tour so hard due to the albums not bringing them any revenue and wow, really put this into perspective:
"I am Posdnous
I be the new generation of slaves
Here to make papes to buy a record exec rakes
The pile of revenue I create
But I guess I don't get a cut cuz my rent's a month late"
Heather B dropping gems. Much respect to De La & Sway!
I was 10 years old the first time I heard 3ft High And Rising. I have literally grown from a child to a middle age man with De La Soul. No group in the history of Hip Hop has been more consistent with great album and great album. De La forever! RIP Trugoy! His flow and style could never be replicated.
Favorite group off all time!!!
Thank you Dave. Thank you De La Soul. Thank You Hip Hop!
De La Soul is PROLIFIC. 3 Feet dropped my high school senior year and there are few hip hop albums I can still listen to from the first note to the last as easily as all of their LPs. Peace to Trugoy and grateful for your talent and sharing it with hip hop fans !! Thank you Pos & Mase!
I remember bieng in The Tab, and a Brethren of mine introduced me to Pos. I had at the time a black 325i and Pos and I was riding, and it was a dream to be in his company. He then invited me to a cookout at Dave's dad's condo on the water and chilled with the entire De LA.
Peace God

De La Soul, the unsung heroes‼️
R.I.P. Dave 🙏🏿
Sway, Heather, Tracy G, Mike Muse, et al- thanks for being amazing ambassadors of the culture. HipHop is a universal language. I was in Nigeria the first time I heard DeLa Soul in the early 90s. Been a fan ever since. 3/3 is De La Day!
Got me crying like a baby & streaming all albums on every platform im subbed to. My life was entirely defined by the moment I heard 3 feet high. Impossible to state how special they have been and always will be to the history of 20th century music & those of us lucky enough to have experienced it in real time.
Thank you FROM THE SOUL Dave, Pos & big bro Maseo !!! God bless you all
I’m from Brasil and De La Soul was a HUGE part of my life. I confess that the Spanish touch in the name caught my attention as a Latino. Simply the sound that brings the best energies for me.
RIP, Dave. Thank you DELASOUL
"my father hated driving a bus but he loved his 5 kids, ya feel me?"
I love these dear important people so much! My favorite ever
RIP Dave. I luv De La Soul and I’ll be streaming the entire catalogue this weekend.
Posdnous and Maseo, while telling the stories and sharing memories can actually make someone who NEVER heard of Delasoul a fan ❤
Happy to see them doing good and holding up following such a loss. RIP Dave

RIP Dave. You will be missed and I'm happy you are in a better place man. Thank you for your contribution to hip hop. 🙏
🌼De La has countless classics
Potholes in my Lawn was my introduction to De La. Blew me away it sounded like nothing I ever heard before. These dudes are truly groundbreaking artists. So happy they are now allowed to earn their dues from steaming platforms. RIP Dave 🙏
What a brilliant track.
Great show. I remember de la on the wake up show. I feel blessed to have witnessed and enjoyed hip hop since age 10. I'm 50 now and spend my days off spinning tunes with my son. And watching him get into the vibes just the same way. Native tongues changed my life in so many ways. My thoughts and prayers go out to pos + Maceo. Please make another Dela album soon. Get common and mos and whoever else and make a banging record. We out here and listening to the vibes, the vibrations.
I was 15 when 3 Feet High and Rising came out and listening to these legends, I’m 15 again. RIP Dave ❤️
Salute to the legends & R. I.P. To Dave my Haitian brother 🇭🇹🫡🙏🏼💯
Now, De La Soul’s catalog is now on streaming services and Itunes. 3 Feet High and Rising was my favorite album.
I saw De La Soul live at the Jazz Cafe in Camden London, must be 97. I was right at the front, and no lie, they were rapping and passed me the Mic. Amazing moment.
@choptmeat ah man that's such a cool story, its amazing that you can bump into people on the internet from the other side of the world who have a really special shared experience.
1989 De La changed the course of my life. Not hyperbole to say they changed the world's too. RIP Trugoy.
Simply hip hop legends. May the ancestors be pleased. R.ise I.n P.ower Trugoy.

I woke up March 3rd like it was Christmas morning 🎄 I was finally able to stream de la soul albums. Been waiting on this for many many years!!
I grew up in the 90s in a little town (Palmerston North, New Zealand) listening watching & knowing De La Soul ❤ that's the influence, connection & legacy of Hip Hop🎉
Barring the WuTang Clan, De La Soul is my favorite hip hop group of all time. I have all of their music & continue to support them and all of the Native Tongue collective. I've seen them perform live on multiple occasions in Philadelphia, PA. where I'm from & I'm so glad & blessed to have seen my brothers wreck the stage live. My sincere condolences for Plug Two a.k.a. Trugoy the Dove a.k.a Dave to his family & Pos & Maseo. I will forever love you brothers & your music. Thanks for autographing my cd copy of Stakes Is High at the end of your performance at the T.L.A. in Philly guys, Love y'all...Rest In Power Dave. One Love❤️
De La Soul still one of my all time favorites. Rest in power Trugoy!
Saw them live in the early 90s at a small club with about 30-40 people in it. They have never gotten the respect they deserve. They along with ATCQ are the greatest hip hop has ever been.
I absolutely love this group..been with them since day one
Thank you Sway for that great Interview, thank you Pos and Mase for all of the speak, it was great to hear and see, thank you De La Soul for all my memories that are plugged to your music. I wish every one of you all the best, stay healthy and keep on with that positivity that you spread - that´s even more important at these times. Greetings and much love from Germany
Day one fan, organiser of the De La Soul album afterparty in New Zealand in '89 and ex A&R at Universal. Super engaging chat thanks fellas! Thanks for the music Dave.
it's real a shame that we never appreciate our heritage and cultures. i mean how can one not appreciate the ayti vibe that has sustained the group. for example, the name "jolicoeur" comes from 2 words joli and coeur meaning "beautiful" and "coeur." so, beautiful (good) heart. these brother exudes that vibe. for real.
Loved this De La Soul interview!
That's what I'm talking about De La Soul legends and RIP to trugoy gone but never going to be forgotten
Love these dudes right here! Thanks for this interview. RIP Trugoy! Your legacy will live on 4eva
Dope interview. Thank you Sway, Heather B and Tracey for this! Rest In Paradise to Trugoy long live De La Soul!🙏🏿
Such a beautiful interview! These brothers I followed since the late 80s on Adelphi University radio, hearing Potholes and Plug Tunin'. Years later, saw them perform with Tribe, Alkaholiks, and Souls of Mischief in Philadelphia. Loved them since Day One! Being a native of Long Island, I represent Strong Island hip hop! Miss you Dave!
What a tastefully executed interview!
This was awesome and much needed for us De La Soul fans. Thx Sway for this fantastic interview! RIP Dave....
