- New York City, specifically the Bronx, may be considered to be the birthplace of hip hop but, over the years, several big names in the genre would also come out of nearby Long Island. Rakim, Public Enemy, EPMD and De La Soul.

So much love for AUTHENTIC hip hop artists like De La Soul. They have an ENDURING legacy. Hence why Spider Man: No Way Home features the catchy Magic Number! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I’m excited that their music is finally on streaming! It’s tragic one of the members of the group won’t be able to celebrate such a long awaited feat ❤️❤️. Native Tongues!
You should do a video on Regina Belle or Donnie Simpson 👀.
Next year will be the 35th anniversary of De LA Soul's debut album 3 Feet High and Rising
Break a dawn and ooh are my favorite
A story on Jungle Brothers would be good too
De LA Soul's Stakes is High album was released on the same day as Crucial Conflict's The Final Tic album and Nas' sophomore album It Was Written on May 2nd 1996
De la Soul always gets major play by me.
They rapped clean.
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️💯
Back in the day you had a variety of hip hop acts, from de la soul To A Tribe Called Quest, to NWA to ICE T. Now it's just auto tune and that same tick tick tick beat🤷🏿
RIP Trugoy the Dove
When did he pass ???
@@powerbadpowerbad She said it in the video
The 30th anniversary of De LA Soul's 3rd album Buhloone Mindstate is on September 21st
"Were they really hippies?" De La Soul made it clear in multiple songs INCLUDING their biggest one that they were not hippies. The remix off the deluxe edition even cleared they were "straight-up soul brothers".
Classic records. They also stood out from what was popular at the time. Trugoy is greatly missed.
Amen
Naw, they weren't hippies. They went on The Arsenio Hall Show and Arsenio introduced them as "the hippies of hip-hop" before they performed their song: Me, Myself And I. De La Soul quite specifically stated that they weren’t hippies. On their song “Pass The Plugs,” the group raps: “Arsenio dissed us but the crowd kept clapping.” “D.A.I.S.Y.” stood for “Da Inner Sound, Y’all”
RIP David Jolicoeur aka Trugoy The Dove
A story on Stetsasonic would be very interesting
WOW.Forgot about them,a segment on them would be nice.
"Potholes In My Lawn" "Me Myself And I" "Three Is The Magic Number" yes... I still have the cassette tape!!❤❤❤💯🎶🎶🎶🎶
De LA Soul's sophomore album De LA Soul is Dead was released on the same day as KMD's debut album Mr. Hood, Ice-T's 4th album O.G. Original Gangster, Paula Abdul's sophomore album Spellbound and Damian Dame's first and only self-titled album on May 14th 1991
Definitely a crew I’ll hang out with! I get there misfit vibes..
Again, another awesome video. You are just knocking it out of the park.
I agree with Nicole we need a video soul video💖💖💖

Billy Lawrence.........YES!!!!
De La Soul wasnt hippies.....they was alternative hip hoppers that took the 60's hippie vibes & turn it to a unique style. but they wasnt hippies. What De La brought to hip hop was not putting themselves in a "Type Cast Box" with the usual James Brown, Zapp, & Parliment Funkadelic sampling hip hop most was doing at the time. They was sampling "Hall & Oats", "Steve Miller Band", "War", "The Turtles" & many other records that wasnt being used by other artist during there first album. You got to remember, they was in high school when "3 Feet High & Rising" was being made. So there song topics was of there age.....it was silly, dope, a little unpolished but thats okay, thats what i liked about them. The next album "Buhloon Mindstate" dropped.....it was De La's saying "Good Bye To The Silly Daisy Age....& Hello To Us Being Taken Seriously As Genuine Rap Artist". Now that they got there taste of the industry champagne.....they album was more serious....bitter almost & more mature than the "3Feet" album. All the albums after that ...we got a totally matured polished MCs that gave us nothing but creative fire from special production of Prince Paul, Q Tip, J Dilla, & Maseo himself........
The Kids from Amityville Long Island became boys to men in rap...!
♥️♦️♣️♥️♦️🖤♣️
when it comes to being Shaylah its just me myself & IIII ❤ lol Ill say it like that forever. RIP Dove 🕊
De La's Stakes Is High album hurt a lot of people's feelings.
They were such a big part of my teenage years! Fucking awesome it was sooo different I mis that era!
Watched this whole video and kept thinking what about their 'Set adrift on memory bliss' song? Had to google and yeah that was PM Dawn...😂🙃
Dummy lol
0:40 almost.
Muh bawls itch.
I'm so glad that of all of De LA Soul's first 6 albums are streaming services
DeLaSoul is a awesome group!
Behind WuTang an argument could be made that De La is top 2 greatest hip hop groups of all time.
And back then there really weren’t any “jazz hip hop” distinctions (maybe Stetstasonic being an edge case) since most NY hip hop acts sampled jazz.
The Native Tongues were the vanguard of hip hop. Hell, they defined hip hop going forward. You’ll notice after they hit the scene, almost every hip hop act that followed was lyrically sound, that includes the WuTangs, Biggies and Tupacs.
Childhood legends
When he said Yogurt backwards…. 😂😂😂😂😂
