MM mmg bukan founder, tapi dedikasi dia sdh setara kyk founder member. Terlihat saat dia menang audisi drummer DT tu mmg dia mau banget gabung sama DT, kalo lihat selama ini perjalanan dia sama DT juga dia pun berusaha keras "bukan cuma" menyesuaikan diri dengan DT tapi juga ikut meng-influence DT itu sendiri

You can thank Jimmy T for that. Myung's bass tone on DoT was wonderful. Sounded like the mid growl if the tone had been moved further up the frequency range.
Mangini made his mark in DT journey.
aku broo... aku dah dgr bbrpa kali Night Terror, jujur gk dpt feel nya ss ternyata era Mangini bnr2 membuat DT menjadi sangat berbeda, mgkn aku salah satu orang yg gak ikutan antusias portnoy balik ke DT. hahaha so..kapan portnoy keluar DT..wkkwkwk
Coming back to this song after Night Terror. I remember thinking this song is just the same stuff again, but in the end I keep playing this song over and over because of its intensity and its energy. It's just an overall excellent song from start to finish and it stays with you. Night Terror doesn't have this same energy. Perhaps other songs do on the album, so I'm hoping this intensity is still there.
That's honestly my favourite thing about him - he's not there to be a hero but to elevate and support the hero's around him. So modest. So noble. Despite his virtuosic potential
He's an amazing player but I've always hated the fact that he uses loads and loads of effects. I think that he would blow everyone away with just his bass and an amp
Great job winning a grammy guys! The Alien is a great representation of Dream Theater's music. It is about time the world recognized who the GOAT prog metal band is!
@Nicholas Popescu I agree 💯! Sadly they didn't win but hey, anyway they were nominated :) for me the whole fortitude album was a masterpiece and deserves a Grammy or at least nomination haha
I love portnoy and old DT, but this album was amazing and so unique. It's sad that DT releases their best album with Mangini ever, even winning grammies with it just for portnoy to return. I would have loved to hear what they could have come up with next with Mangini.
@@elcidcampeador9629 Portnoy's pocket is stellar... his dynamics and complementary drumming are better. Not that Mangini doesn't have those things at an insanely high level, but not there with MP. MM is a faster and more technical drummer... his poly-rythms are, to me anyway less feel and more metronome (very precise)... but, what do I know. I am not on their level. They are different... they are two of the best, ever. DT is the winner either way, IMO... peace
The song that DT will not be able to recreate with Mike Portnoy on the drum. OR the music that will no longer be played with Mike Portnoy on the drum. Mike Mangini left a significant mark in DT's journey that can not be replaced. Mike Mangini took the fans to another realm, another world, and another level of musicality, and Mike Portnoy is now taking us back to the dramatic side of the earthy world.
It was heartbreaking to see MP left 14 years ago and I thought I’ll never recover. MM WAS the “meh” factor in the band for me to be honest, especially during the self-titled and Astonishing era. But with him I feel like the band kinda progressed musically (no pun) and each new album was a surprise. And of course sometimes it worked and the other day it wasn’t, but that’s the beauty of it: they’re experimenting. Now I’ve got a night terror (pun intended) hearing MP playing the very same pattern he used to play from 20 somewhat years ago. I mean the man doesn’t even bring something new to the band rather than nostalgia. The new single is nowhere near the musicality of this song, or any song from a view from the top of the world. I have to admit there was a time when I really wanted MP to make a comeback with DT just like most of the fans, but now I realize the best thing to do is move on and never go back to your past, like literally. I guess we only appreciate what we have once we lost it. Sehat selalu mas Bram, wkwk😂
@@somethingofascientistmyself Halo mas!! Yea true. It’s not that i don’t like the new “night terror”, it’s just.. boring. You know what i mean. We knew Jordan, 2 John’s, and James could do something more with MM although they might not be able to keep up with MM toughness. I watched DT played Alien in Tokyo in 2022, and what I saw was, James and John couldn’t even keep up with MM playing pattern. I realized there’s a reason why MM was mentioned as the first writer of this Grammy winning song. What I am trying to say is, Mike Portnoy comeback might give a “safe feeling” to the other players, bcoz they already knew each other for so long. But at the same time DT is experiencing DEVOLUTION with the comeback of MP.

Honestly I feel like the mixing has been getting consistently better since like 2011. For all the faults I thought Distance over Time had, I thought it had the best mixing yet, and if all the tracks on the new album sound this good, it might not keep that spot for long
Come back here after hearing Night Terror and I think this song way complex and refreshing at all at cost. Now I miss Mangini's polyrhythm. He always gave new taste, new touch, his creativity can't make me boring.
Night Terror was a rehash of the boring parts from Black Clouds. But hey Portnoy came back and the band is suddenly good again because fans whined for long enough.

Some of the most insane drumming of all time and I know mangini had a lot to do with writing this song and it's main riff. Mangini will be missed but it is what it is. Plot twist, the astronauts who explored outer space and the planets, in hundreds of years they evolved into aliens. Then at that time, they used a time machine to travel to earth at this time What a great lyric
I have never been this addicted to a Dream Theater single. The quality of this song is so high that my anticipation for the rest of the album is higher than any album in the past. I'm so glad I decided to randomly buy the Octavarium album back in 2005 when I was working at Circuit City. I had no idea what the band sounded like. All I knew, being a guitar player, was that John Petrucci was in the band so it had to be good. The day I bought that album was the day my musical life changed forever. Dream Theater has been such a huge part of my life since then and they have actually helped me get through some very hard times. I want to personally thank every member of this band (including MP) for forming this band and being there for me. They don't know they were there for me but they were and always will be.
This. I found Dream Theater in 2005 also, and ever since then no other band has kept my attention long-term. And this song is friggin amazing haha. If the rest of the album is even close to this quality it's gonna be incredible.
James doesn't sound like he's straining vocally- I really like the new approach. Petrucci's solos are amazing, and the mix is better than a lot of recent DT albums. I wasn't all that impressed with Distance, but am really looking forward to this release. First day buyer!
The best thing that has happened is James not going crazy with falsettos and higher octave ranges. It's the best the band have sounded since...well Distance over Time hah!
I'm convinced. This song is just their coming out. They're all aliens because this skill level is humanly impossible. Humans will accept they exist now.
First time the mixing/production doesn't bother me while listening to a DT song since ADToE. They seem to finally get it right: Myung is audible, Mangini's snare doesn't sound like an 80's one, Labrie have less chorus/flanger effects and everything sounds well-balanced. Andy Sneap mixed and mastered this; I would say to stick with him!
Couldn't agree more. Finally a great sounding album since ADTOE. The sounds are pleasing to ears. They finally did a great choice after all these years! Andy Sneap is the man.
Lmao i was just about so say.... "holy hell dream theater has a bassist ?"... love myungs bass playing. wish he was higher up in the mix on earlier stuff though
They let Mangini off the leash with this one. This is the best mix I've heard since Octavarium as well. Lots of fresh ideas and tasteful instrumental sections. I'm super excited for the rest of the album!
He’s killing it, I just love to listen! Question: didn’t you think the mix was off for TROAE on Octavarium? I remember buying the cd opening day and thinking come the solo section “why is JP so quiet?”
Guys. In the early 90s when Images and Words came out i was just leaving middle school and I saw a Dream Theater show in my town at a small theater......my very first concert. All these years later , during this weird dark time....DT winning a Grammy is such a positive thing....it's like echo from the past connecting me to my roots and saying ...."there is still hope".
I saw them too they put on a dope show. Like 10 people in my high school's theater. It was 1977. John was so quiet. Lol pic or it didn't happen my dood :)
Not hope...DT was strong even in the 90s, and this means they are still an epic band today, age not meaning anything to them...theyre capable of being Immortal.
The absolute Masters of their instruments are on Lightspeed again. All these years and billions of notes later here we are again, listening to this incredible journey of music.
Although each member is at the top of their own game here, but Mangini's drum parts are absolutely phenomenal. They not only complement Petrucci & Rudess' solos greatly, but also adds distinctly to the flavor of the song. Eagerly waiting for the whole album.
I have been a fairly big critic of his but the drumming is working for me on this song. I have to think a big part of my issue with Mangini thus far has been the mix of drums.
Even in Japan, Dream Theater names and albums are regularly introduced on the web and in magazines. I've been living my life with the music of Dream Theater for 25 years. I was very happy and very surprised to receive this Grammy Award! Congratulations on winning the prize!
I've been listening to their music since 2008, when I was 15. The way for the first time I heard Six Degrees was just mind-boggling. Totally something fresh, different and unique. I have listened to bands like Nightwish, Evergrey, Ayreon and lots of other metal/rock bands, but DT is simply level or two beyond any band or composer I have heard :) Was so happy to see them live after 8 years in January in Poland - the show was very very good and I don't care that much about LaBrie's current voice capabilities. But DT is like an old wine - sometimes you have to stop listening to them for a while, because you might feel sick because of it.
"Even in Japan" bruh Japan cares more about metal than America, that's for sure....hell even Stratovarius in their mid 90s prime era were having issues in their own country but Japan ate it up Given how awesome lots of JP video games soundtracks were from the 80s/90s, no wonder, sounds like they have good musical taste
Everyone in the comments analyzing and I am sitting here like - Man, what a FANTASTIC song!! Boy, this was amazing, pure DT! Can’t wait for the album, the hype is real!
FINALLY, a taste of what DT used to be like, and i'm not talking about Portnoy, but everybody else. Now It feels like everybody's finally in sync with each other, and the result Is a breathtaking single! Love It, can't wait ❤️
Dream Theater - "The Alien" lyrics [Verse 1] Look beyond the Earth, heading set for the stars Interplanetary, some are near, some are far Terraform a new world, survival for mankind Options but a few, we are running out of time Should you climb aboard A voyage, the first of its kind Ready to explore All that you've known left behind [Chorus 1] Our Holy Grail Now redefined! Our purpose, a thread Weaving through time! Now with the means to expand Life beyond here Digital man Alien, changed forever! New found world in the stars! [Verse 2] Understand the meaning Certain we'll extend the scale of consciousness Woman, child and man! Multi planet species out amongst the stars Not stuck in and around Who and what we are Time to climb aboard! Countdown to takeoff on time Systems are online! (Five, four, three, two) Farewell to all humankind (One) [Chorus 2] Our Holy Grail Clearly defined! Our purpose, a thread Weaving through time! Now with the means to expand Life beyond here Digital man Alien, changed forever! New found world, here we are! [Instrumental Break] [Chorus 3] Our Holy Grail Clearly defined! Our purpose, a thread Weaving through time! Now with the means to expand Our Holy Grail Read between the lines! One purpose, one thread Weaving through time! Now with the means to expand! [Outro] I am the alien Out here in the stars We'll search 'til we find! No matter how far A far better world For all human race And beyond!
I am FAR from any kind of songwriter, but listen to the last two lines in the song. I think the word "kind" would fit better than "race" in the context of being sung. Regardless, this is a perfectly crafted and performed song. I only wish some video shots of the band were included in this video.
As with many people here in the comments, I came back here to compare Night Terrors to The Alien. Mr. Mangini is absolutely killing it in this song. This song deserves the Grammy it won. The man is an exceptional drummer and he made exceptional music with Dream Theater for 10 years. I do not want to take anything away from Mr. Mangini at all. I'm excited to hear new music from him as well. That being said, Night Terrors sounds more like the Dream Theater I fell in love with in 1992 when I first heard Images and Words. Is Mike Portnoy as technically good as Mike Mangini? Probably not but Mike Portnoy is no slouch behind the kit either. To me, though, I enjoy Night Terrors more only because it is reminiscent of the Dream Theater I fell in love with 30 years ago. I've seen Dream Theater live more than 20 times throughout the last 30 years and I can't wait to see them again in March when they are in my neck of the woods. I'll probably take flack in the comments, but Dream Theater seems whole to me again. 😊
Dunno about the flack. It is ok to have an opinion, or rather personal preference :-) I actually do not care that much about who sits behind the kit. I just want good songs and I can find some with both DT drummers. Not sure Night Terror is good, so far it feels like I am forcing myself to learn the lyrics to sing along in concert, because I expect them to play this :-)
I love that LaBrie is staying within his current vocal range instead of trying to live up to the highs of his early career. It might not be the same sound but it’s the best direction for him to take the band vocally, and makes for a much stronger product at the end of the day. Loved his performance here
Of course! That's what I always thought, there's absolutely no problem in Labrie singing deeper... It sounds better with his current voice, and the chances of singing out of tune decrease
I remember a story about how Ian Gillan started losing his range but kept trying to hit those high notes. Similar to an degree with Geoff Tate. The irony being that if they just shifted everything to a lower pitch and put in a good performance, it would be less noticeable than straining their cords around notes that they can't reliably reach anymore.
@@corentinsoulier5607 I believe up until recently, probably before Distance Over Time, Petrucci wrote LaBrie’s melodies for him. Either LaBrie is now writing for himself, or Petrucci is being more considerate. Portnoy was part of the vocal melody composition while he was in the band too, from what I’ve heard.
Answering the Call - Heavy and groovy track, very melodic vocal lines, gave me Swedish vibes Sleeping Giant - Dunno how to describe this, chorus hit me really hard, just awesome track Trancending Time - Reminds me of Behind the Veil, has very cool eastern section, love the piano ending Awaken the Master - Heaviest and most progressive track (JP 8 string), my personal favorite A View From The Top Of The World - Now this is a treat, nothing like ACOS or Octavarium, complete chaos from start to finish, except for the mellow melodic mid section Personal opinion - Distance Over Time has been best DT record for me since Portnoy left, but i enjoyed A View From The Top Of The World even more
IMO ADTOE is still their best post portnoy album. I just love the mix and the orchestraic feel in it. Favorite song : breaking all illusions. But AVFTTOTW is also a materpiece
John Myung's bass is awesome, John's guitar riffs and solos are awesome, Jordan's keys were great as always, the drums kick ass and James' vocals sound great. High hopes for a View from The top of the World.
JP's soloing on this is a lot more emotive than it's been in a long time. Very focused, clean, full of groove and emotion. Mangini really has been unleashed. So many creative fills and percussive segments. It's almost as if the band has been possessed by themselves back in the glory days. Mangini seems to be channeling Portion, while still maintaining his own identity.
I think the opposite. This song is great, but it's more like mixture of their other songs. Yes, i know this is proggressive metal, but i can hear "Repentance, The great debate" and many other DT song that i can't remember their names right now.
@@bengialpakseki1273 They have been doing this during their whole career. I think that makes them unique, just cause they are constantly winking to previous albums and songs.
@@bengialpakseki1273 yes i felt the same at first. Like the first theme sounds like Count of Tuscany and The Best of Times but after listening a few times you start to forget those similarities.
Fans have wanted Portnoy back for 14 years and the second he comes back they go "nooo we miss Mangini now" 😂 The Mike vs Mike thing will never end, will it
James is sounding great. I'm loving the attention to the lower, more melody-driven register they chose for the vocal approach. I also feel like the production on this is the best sounding of the Mangini era so far. Really loving this tune the further down the track I get!
Honestly, and thats just my opinion, his voice is getting weaker timbre wise. When he goes to his higher register is sounding less and less crisp and Bright, and starting sound more tinier and it sort of hurts. It feels forced. I really prefer his lower range nowadays. I guess those are effects of his age
Having in mind the James' issue with his higher notes, it is a wise decision for him to sing in his lower register. Besides doing it so well, melodies are better heard. Regarding Mangini's performance, maybe it is still too soon to establish that, though this song was incredible. But I loved what he did in DoT and in DT12
@@jaenima7686 Agree! For me, ADTOE is definitely #1 post-Portnoy (I actually love that album, #5 behind the classic-era DT) This might be up there too. Sounds like they took DoT (already solid) and developed the direction?
I’m truly astonished at the fact that these guys are in their 50s, while Jordan stands the oldest at 64. And they’re still going this hard as if it was still the 1990s.
Actually the guys are explorers and are very deep rooted. That is why they keep on producing and wonder us. Nothing will change except their ages in near future.
@@luizguerreiro7656 the drum sound isn't the best on the self titled, sounds kinda unnatural. This is way better even if the other instruments don't sound quite as good
1)Mr. Rudess' solo is fantastic, I feel that balance between tricks and melody. 2) I really like what these gentlemen are now up to in composition. Those epic chord progressions were epic we are into them for 30 years, but since DoT and now it's very satisfying to hear mr. Petrucci and mr. LaBrie finding right notes. Uncontemptated notes over quite simple harmony - classical feeling.
I have no idea how I've never listened to a Dream Theater song before today! I mean, I was a teen in the 80s when they formed WTH?! This is hard and beautiful at the same time. I am in absolute love with their sound! I can't wait to check out all of their stuff now!! 💜
This is the DT sound I've missed so much. Complex, technical, and awesome. I feel like we're finally hearing Mangini's style as he's really settled into this new family with his new brothers in metal. I don't want to start any sort of Portnoy vs Mangini debate, but in the old Portnoy days you could hear how he would let loose and not be afraid to get very technical and take liberties while everything held together. I just feel like we're starting to hear some more of that freedom from Mangini now. Some people are saying that this sounds like a "lot of the DT that we used to know", and I'm asking you if that's such a bad thing? I fell in love with this band for that sound and that style. I can't get that fix anywhere else. The self-titled DT album was actually a miss for me, and I own every album. I'm excited for this one. Great job guys!
Yeah the self-titled Dream Theater album was not very good. Some highlights but that is about it. It took them way too long to unleash Mangini. I'm glad he is finally there on the last record but it should have happened on the 1st one they did together.
"We're finally hearing Mangini style..." well TEN years have passed! Just like thinking that Ringo finally found his style after Let it Be :) I honestly think Mike Mangini has always been amazing from day 1.
To the naysayers; Sorry, but as good as Portnoy was he now can't return. If Mangini sounds like this on the rest of the album Portnoy couldn't play these parts. Maybe could play them with a little more groove, as some of you say, but the speed Mangini has not only in sticking but also his movement around the kit is beyond MP’s ability. Each drummer has his strengths and weaknesses but don't see anyone topping MM in his particular talent as 👽 as it may be.
Mike Mangini has set a standard only few can follow. He is one of the greatest drummers to ever bless this planet. This will be an album for the DT record books. Peace.
The first listen was good. I had to keep my ears open to hear each little thing. The second listen, I was ready to purely enjoy what was coming. That chorus is crazy weird and haunting but I love it. That harmony at the end of the solo leading back into the verse is beautiful. The video flows perfectly and reflects the message of the song. I love everything. Jesus, I can’t wait to hear this album and all the twists and turns you give us. Thank you, DT
First thoughts: the mix is great (definitely their best since A Dramatic Turn of Events), Mangini is doing a great job after being underutilized and it's great hearing James trying to stay within his current range instead of forcingly singing outside it. I'm not sold on the competition yet. Like a lot of people said, there are lots of things that sound rather lifted form other compositions. Might grow on me after some listens.
Agreed. It usually takes a few play through to absorb thier albums. The first 3 minutes to me were all too familiar. From the chorus on had me tuned in.
People, have in mind that the first song DT release for their new album is always the more 'accesible' for the public in general. With Distance Over Time we had Untethered angel first, that was a good song but a bit generic, and then, when the full album came out, Pale Blue Dot and At wits End were the highlights. This song alone could be a highlight from this new album, since it's an epic and it seems like a 2nd part of Pale Blue Dot. Well, we've to wait until October for the rest of the album.
I found Untethered Angel to still have catchy vocal lines, on top of fun instrumental sections - slightly better than this one (..I say after only 2 listens, lol). Really looking forward to Sleeping Giant (10:05), Awaken the Master (9:47) and A View from the Top of the World (20:24), though!
Reading the comments on Facebook are the exact opposite from the comments here on RUclips. As I’m listening to this for the first time, what an absolute masterpiece! Great mix, good energy and exploration of a song. Well done DT, your true fan base loves you!
The more I listen the more it makes sense and the better it sounds! Recommend listening after Pale Blue Dot, as this one is about humanity expanding to other planets and being ”The Alien”.
The whole band did a phenomenal job!! But Mangini steals the show!! Also, huge shoutout to the creators of the visualizations and the mixers! It's fantastic!

Finally, they turned up Myung's bass.

We Will miss Mangini. This song is so epic. Mangini GOAT.
Myung is such an unsung hero, everything on top of his lines is made better because of his genious choices
the foundation of the building
I love him... the way he makes that bass sing and support the melodies
He is the quiet monster of DT. Was recently listening to The Jelly Jam and how he brings the band alive, similar to what he does with DT.

@@bartondean4260 In some ways, yes. I feel Portnoy had more creative energy and influence, but Mangini is a better technical player.
@@elcidcampeador9629
Portnoy's pocket is stellar... his dynamics and complementary drumming are better.
DT is the winner either way, IMO... peace
to me, this actually feels and sounds a lot more (historical) Portnoy than what (current) Portnoy sounds like now.
MIKE MANGINI the BEST 💯💯💯
can beat Matt Gratska though 😅😂

I think we have to thanks Andy Sneap (the one involved in the mix this time) for that.

Long live Dream Theater!!
Awsome player in
In think It is James la Brie who sucks the most.
Even in Japan, Dream Theater names and albums are regularly introduced on the web and in magazines. I've been living my life with the music of Dream Theater for 25 years. I was very happy and very surprised to receive this Grammy Award! Congratulations on winning the prize!
The Japanese know good music especially in the power metal and other "happy/energetic" sounding genres.
I've been listening to their music since 2008, when I was 15. The way for the first time I heard Six Degrees was just mind-boggling. Totally something fresh, different and unique. I have listened to bands like Nightwish, Evergrey, Ayreon and lots of other metal/rock bands, but DT is simply level or two beyond any band or composer I have heard :)
Was so happy to see them live after 8 years in January in Poland - the show was very very good and I don't care that much about LaBrie's current voice capabilities.
But DT is like an old wine - sometimes you have to stop listening to them for a while, because you might feel sick because of it.
"Even in Japan" bruh Japan cares more about metal than America, that's for sure....hell even Stratovarius in their mid 90s prime era were having issues in their own country but Japan ate it up
Given how awesome lots of JP video games soundtracks were from the 80s/90s, no wonder, sounds like they have good musical taste
You are very similar to me. I am a Korean and have been a die hard fan of D.T since 1994

Dream Theater - "The Alien" lyrics
[Verse 1]
Look beyond the Earth, heading set for the stars
Interplanetary, some are near, some are far
Terraform a new world, survival for mankind
Options but a few, we are running out of time
Should you climb aboard
A voyage, the first of its kind
Ready to explore
All that you've known left behind
[Chorus 1]
Our Holy Grail
Now redefined!
Our purpose, a thread
Weaving through time!
Now with the means to expand
Life beyond here
Digital man
Alien, changed forever!
New found world in the stars!
[Verse 2]
Understand the meaning
Certain we'll extend the scale of consciousness
Woman, child and man!
Multi planet species out amongst the stars
Not stuck in and around
Who and what we are
Time to climb aboard!
Countdown to takeoff on time
Systems are online! (Five, four, three, two)
Farewell to all humankind (One)
[Chorus 2]
Our Holy Grail
Clearly defined!
Our purpose, a thread
Weaving through time!
Now with the means to expand
Life beyond here
Digital man
Alien, changed forever!
New found world, here we are!
[Instrumental Break]
[Chorus 3]
Our Holy Grail
Clearly defined!
Our purpose, a thread
Weaving through time!
Now with the means to expand
Our Holy Grail
Read between the lines!
One purpose, one thread
Weaving through time!
Now with the means to expand!
[Outro]
I am the alien
Out here in the stars
We'll search 'til we find!
No matter how far
A far better world
For all human race
And beyond!

Not sure Night Terror is good, so far it feels like I am forcing myself to learn the lyrics to sing along in concert, because I expect them to play this :-)
Old DT with fresh, new and brilliant elements! That's what's I need in this year! Cannot wait for new album!!!

Labrie is a great singer, but I do miss the range he had back in the 80s.
Isn't it Portnoy who wanted him to sing llike that high, actually? I could be wrong.

Answering the Call - Heavy and groovy track, very melodic vocal lines, gave me Swedish vibes
Sleeping Giant - Dunno how to describe this, chorus hit me really hard, just awesome track
Trancending Time - Reminds me of Behind the Veil, has very cool eastern section, love the piano ending
Awaken the Master - Heaviest and most progressive track (JP 8 string), my personal favorite
A View From The Top Of The World - Now this is a treat, nothing like ACOS or Octavarium, complete chaos from start to finish, except for the mellow melodic mid section
Personal opinion - Distance Over Time has been best DT record for me since Portnoy left, but i enjoyed A View From The Top Of The World even more
i loved dramatic turn of events and Dream theater too. Illumination theory is one of their best imo. Still Distance Over Time was also very good!
@@bengialpakseki1273 i heard in the presence of enemies pt.1 in the beginning and in the end of the song
Portion? You mean Portnoy?
@@bengialpakseki1273 They have been doing this during their whole career. I think that makes them unique, just cause they are constantly winking to previous albums and songs.
@@bengialpakseki1273 yes i felt the same at first. Like the first theme sounds like Count of Tuscany and The Best of Times but after listening a few times you start to forget those similarities.
Fans have wanted Portnoy back for 14 years and the second he comes back they go "nooo we miss Mangini now" 😂
The Mike vs Mike thing will never end, will it
Yeah, neverending story :-) I wonder how long will it take for DT to make another member change :-)
I like his voice too!! Hes great singing soft
It’s the auto tune. They even use it post production in live recordings. DT is washed up

This might be the best post-Portnoy Dream Theater has sounded production-wise and Music-wise
I have a feeling that this will be the best album of the Mangini Era. ADTOE coming 2nd.
@@jaenima7686 Agree! For me, ADTOE is definitely #1 post-Portnoy (I actually love that album, #5 behind the classic-era DT) This might be up there too. Sounds like they took DoT (already solid) and developed the direction?
@@Seth-fg4ho sounds like they took DoT and added bits from their older stuff
I’m truly astonished at the fact that these guys are in their 50s, while Jordan stands the oldest at 64. And they’re still going this hard as if it was still the 1990s.
Totally man its super impressive lol
And I'm 24 and conplaining about my back pain HAHAHAHA
Jordan is like a keyboard god
Actually the guys are explorers and are very deep rooted. That is why they keep on producing and wonder us. Nothing will change except their ages in near future.
Wait a minute...Jordan is 64???????
Mike Mangini!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😍
I confess. This is the best mix on a DT song I have heard in 10 years.
Musicians should really start to list who's mixed the songs.
I agree!
Have you heard " The illumination theory " ???
@@luizguerreiro7656 the drum sound isn't the best on the self titled, sounds kinda unnatural. This is way better even if the other instruments don't sound quite as good
I 1000% agree I still think their best production was A Dramatic Turn of Events which this totally reminds me of.
After decades of being buried in the mix at last we have a decent bass tone and volume.
For the most part, yes
train of thought's bass was pretty good imo
@@s0lid232 yeah, very prominent midrangy bass tone
Last album was an acquired taste.
Great bass tone on Awake and SFAM, but I totally get what you're saying...
Hehe let's go!! Octavarium, the song, is a must. A often underestimated album, A dramatic turn of events. Only my take. ;)
Pull Me Under is the song that made them famous. Great song.
@@nonyabusiness6084 That song is beyond fantastic!!
Pull Me Under was the beginning for me. I was in the car when the opening riff started. Stunned. Prolly should have “pulled” over…😮
Just buckle up when you start Train of Thought.
Mancini is superb. Get over it.
Yeah the self-titled Dream Theater album was not very good. Some highlights but that is about it. It took them way too long to unleash Mangini. I'm glad he is finally there on the last record but it should have happened on the 1st one they did together.
What do you mean "new family"? It's been 11 years
"We're finally hearing Mangini style..." well TEN years have passed!
I´m the alien...out here in the stars....emotion from heart..!!!
I’d say it’s the best mix since octavarium.
Agreed. It usually takes a few play through to absorb thier albums.
The first 3 minutes to me were all too familiar. From the chorus on had me tuned in.
Agree! Mangini was underutilized
Mangini has always been at 100%, what you're talking about?
@@casaroli The count of Tuscany had the best mix ever
Barstool Warrior
I do had the same thought about Pale Blue Dot.
Imo this one song is way better than the entirety of the previous album lol very promising
@@passion4drums you’re crazy man. DOT is one of their top 3 albums of all time!
