I've met Samantha before. She was quite an amazing person. Very compassionate and a huge personality just like her brother. My heart goes out to her family.

I was with my girlfriend whose father died a week earlier), but this time my tears are just pouring out of my eyes.

I grew up with Dream Theater through all my formative years, they formed my entire musical identity, and they've helped me grow into the man I am today. I can't even begin to give enough thanks to every past and present member of this legendary band. I'm openly weeping for Mike right now. Sam was one of Dream Theater's biggest fans. It wasn't that her brother was in the band, it was a true love of the music and everything it meant to her. Everyone in the band knew and loved her, and many of the fans that got to meet and spend time with her will all agree she was an amazing person. She will be missed. May the four winds blow you safely home #SamIAm.

And all of their children grew up together and still hang out and celebrate birthdays together. So even after Portnoy left the band, they still had occasional family reunions for those reasons. And Mike’s sister who passed away, was one of their biggest supporters from the beginning so everyone else in the band thought of her as a sister
This song….oh, man. Two and a half decades ago, this song absolutely WRECKED ME in concert for no reason whatsoever in Atlanta, GA….just absolute sheer beauty. I just lost my ANGEL mother, who in 86 years of life on this Earth NEVER ONCE WRONGED ANOTHER HUMAN BEING….the most selfless human that anyone who was Blessed to know her had ever met. It was long, brutal and was my Hiroshima. Clearing her house and dealing with probate is excruciating. Still reeling from that several-month-long-hell…..I am taking my 14 year old son who I’ve been teaching DT and drumming to see them in a couple of months….I ABSOLUTELY DREAD seeing them playing this song again….now….🙏😢
