Thank you! This is how a rig walkthrough should be: no interrupting, letting the guitar tech talk, and asking the right questions. Matty is doing an amazing job.
If you’re ok with being gone for a long time it would be awesome. His tech is a nice guy, I see him milling about during the VIP’s and he looks bored as hell. Helluva gig though!
Depending on your responsibilities, a job like that can be either easy or extremely stressful. Setting up guitars, tuning quickly is easy, but when an amp blows, or a single patch cable goes bad, or there's an unidentified hum suddenly out of nowhere... it gets stressful
Thing is, these big touring musicians can afford to take a big complicated rig on the road that us lesser gods could never do, if only because we have to haul it around ourselves, while John lets his guitar tech and roadie do all the work. So you get all the stress of making it all work, deal with Murphy creating catastrophic rig failures, tube amps being transported all over the world to different climates. Besides getting all the guitars ready for the next song you may even have to double in doing footswitch duty on the rig as the talent walks all over the stage. So if it works, it will probably be fun. But there's a reason why there are backup units in that rig.
amazing, and I'm always impressed about how Petrucci's stuff looks always brand new. i mean, if you look any other rig rundown it's dust, tapes, scratches everyway! I love John's passion for his instruments
Man this guy knows his stuff, cause when you see most of these rig rundown type videos most roadies bs their way through a video, but the guy makes it understandable for everyone watching.
I promoted the Luxembourg show yesterday, one of their best shows i've seen in a while, incredible setlist, great energy on stage, was really really good, John's tone was sick, was so happy for them to see so many people come out to see them as well and celebrate 40 years, it's nuts, thanks for the rig walkthrough Ola, a lot of us were wondering how he's running things on this run 🙏
How freaking awesome is that. I wish I understood how all that equipment hooked up. My goodness he has a plethora of guitars. Great job getting behind the scenes Ola. Well done!!!
Ola, That rig is just insane I love the fact he uses some older pedals that are still great sounding pedals and the mesa heads are just crazy good anyway great rig rundown Thanks!
@AngeloGuardia I caught them in London and it was glorious, I've never the O2 with so much tone in it 😂 only slight downside were the drums were loud enough!
The sound was particularly great this tour. Really noticed it. Also I noted they fubared the punch of the kick. Many crowds report this. We heard it,but gutless
Question, when I was at Radio City in ‘06 JP lost signal before the solo on “UAGM”, they obviously edited that song for the “Score” recording but I never heard the story of what happened. If you watch the DVD during the first verses and chorus you can see MP looking over to stage left like “Whats up with the guitar?” And JP was off stage for a pretty long time and right before the solo he walked back out and the guitar was working. It was wild. Also in NYC on TOT the entire PA went off during “This Dying Soul”. I was front row and could hear stage volume but the PA was off for about ten or fifteen seconds. Live music really is LIVE!
I'm impressed with how clean the rig is. No dust or ketchup fingerprints or coffee stains on anything. Even the cables are dust free. Certainly cleaner than the rig in my kitchen. Yes, I play guitar in my kitchen.😁
you got to premier what a lotttttttttt of sites would have love to be doing..showing the DT / JP rig rundown!! well done sir!! so awesome to witness this journey of yours..been following for your years.. and you're really a household/known name within the whole music industry! TAK!

9:20 "The favorite is still the Purple Nebula..." I totally get it! I have barely played any other guitar since I got my 7-string version in 2020. Seriously, nothing compares. When I ordered it over the phone with Sweetwater, the dude helping me was like, "WOW, that is a beautiful guitar!" I don't know that he'd ever seen it before, but with how limited a release there was altogether (150 6-string, 50 7-string) that doesn't surprise me.
I saw JP with MP on JP's solo tour. It was amazing to hear those cabinets go directly to my ears on the first row. It is indeed really loud. Anyways, I was taken aback when I tried to say hi to Matty because he gave me the meanest look, but then I thought: this is his workplace, I am definitely the asshole here. If you get to see this, I am really sorry Matty. Thank you Ola for sharing this.
Wow, just sick!! The most hilarious part, do we have a 7 strings in black for the mirror? No? Can we get one? Few days later. Done. Wow, bless :-) what a nice rig, every time I think I am getting closer, something change 😂😂
W😎W......Will be Enough one Majesty and one Mesa Head to me 🥺🥺🥺 ... Amazing Rig ...Great Guitar Tech ... And Shooted with a Really Nice Camera , details are really great
Over $40k in guitars on stage, man that's a dream. Plus that rig is nuts! Curious as to why he uses a Axe Fx when there is basically every stomp pedal needed on another rack? I'm just a broke bedroom rocker with a helix so this is so intriguing and inspiring to me. Love this kind of content Ola, please keep doing these :)
Man if you got Helix you could be a lot worse! Lol… I believe the Axe FX does harmonizers or any other stuff that the pedals don’t. But I understand… the amps, wah and pedal rack itself would be a killer rig
John gets paid to play them though. Plus he has a financial incentive to sell these. Most young bands are skipping over them unless they get lucky enough to get sponsored.
@matthewduncan9405 I'm pretty sure he doesn't get paid to play them. He gets a royalty per signature item that gets sold. I think young bands gravitate away from big rigs due to the fact that most of them don't have a van to haul their shit.
Here's the electric guitar signal chain without the switcher stuff: wireless, rack wah, Keeley compressor, Maxon/Fortin overdrive, Keeley California Girls 12-string simulator, TC Dreamscape flanger, MXR EVH phase 90, Boss Dimension c waza, TC Viscous Vibe, (signal splits here to dual mono), TWO MXR chorus pedals each feeding their own Mesa Boogie JP2C amp. Effects loop of both amps (L and R) go into a mixer and these effects come back into mixer channels in parallel: TC 2290 for delay or flanger, Axe FX for delays/harmonizer, TC 2290 pedal (as backup) and Boss SDE-3000 EVH delay. Mixer output to JP2C effects returns.
@ I’m not surprised he’s no longer using the Mimiq. I used one about 7 years ago for the double-tracking vibe and it just felt too loose. I’ve tried all kinds of stereo widening things (chorus, dc2w, detune, stereo reverb, etc) but I hadn’t thought of two parallel choruses!
He says the 2290 does a 7 millisecond split what does that do kinda like a wider effect like detune? Dual mono is what he is doing what is the difference between that and stereo? This stuff is fascinating 🤟🏻
I wish they rereleased those classic beauties as rack units so you could have a compact rack instead of those suit case size pedals that you just hit your toes on and roll around in the gig bag and whatnot. Like I've been looking for SDE-3000 for forever in rack format. It must be so expensive for them to tour though! Looking at all that gear and all the guitars that need to travel with them.
"the signal flow is pretty simple" ...was the last thing I really understood.
😂

Same lol "It's pretty simple..." It took me like the whole day today to figure out how to chain two VSTs when I play through my Scarlett Solo LMAO 🤣

Yeah, I couldn't agree more. Ola is like a big kid living his best life and I'm all for it
