The word "mature" is coming to mind. His playing has evolved so much over time, and he never stops trying new things while continuously growing his technique. I am beyond excited to hear the whole album!
I am assuming you mean MP - instantly recognizable and holy smokes some awesome percussion there - Pertrucci is brilliant and obviously feeding off the synergy of jamming with MP again. Awesome piece well written and well played. This video made my day and I hope they reunite the band as it should be and pronto.
John Petrucci is one of the greatest guitarists ever. And now….more great music. The fans owe Petrucci a great debt. The fans continually want more material, AND John Petrucci delivers!
Can we all take a moment to appreciate John's cerebrum. Let me explain: He has this lead style which always sounds like 'him'. Somehow he's never written a phrase that's a total rip off of any earlier stuff. How does someone write thousands of melodies over their career, and stay true to their tone and expression, without turning into a copy-paste specialist? Very cool brain, bro.
@Todd Lewis Sorry but A LOT on Systematic Chaos sounds like stuff from Train of Thought and Six Degrees of Inner T. and Scenes From a Memory. But yeah he s a Melody genius aside from that. Which he proves with this Song
I agree totally, although it could be accidental that some phrases often come out as "inspired" or very familiar to other phrases whether from his or other guitarists. for example the phrase at 0:53-0:55 sounds much like Vinnie Moore rather than trucci. Gotta love papa john's music, also I recommend Buckethead, if you are looking for variety and a unique tone.
John and Mike's playing blend together so naturally, it's incredible. There's a natural and incredible chemistry between them that blends so well. It feels like natural glue, and my ears like it, lol. I also enjoy so much Mike's playing, his groove is so smooth and at the same time, in time.
Damn right, I usually don't listen to solo albums because I find the guitar to be too flashy. But this song has a ballance to it, the drums fit perfectly the riffs and solos! :)

In the 80s John Petrucci and Kevin Moore taught music lessons at Focus II Guitar Center in Commack New York. I took lessons there but not with John, a guy named Joe but I would hear John giving lessons next door. This was before they were famous. My mother took piano lessons with Kevin while I was in my guitar lessons to pass the time. She was a doctor and never practiced, I think Kevin was very patient with her but knew she wasn’t a serious student.
Oh man, just found this. My teenage daughter and I saw the tour in Nashville a few months back, 2nd row center stage. She just gave me the CD for Christmas. Call me Mr. Lucky. Thanks for the amazing memory John!!
I remember in a very old interview JP saying that when he writes a 1.5 minute solo, his main concern is that the listener won't yawn through it. And that's exactly what he does, at least in my book. He's the only shredder I know where every note seems to be meticulously and painstakingly placed exactly where it's supposed to be. Listening to his solos makes me feel like they were there all along, just waiting for him to piece them together. A unique and unmatched talent.
He's definitely a shredder who gets to the point. One of my favorite virtuoso soloists to listen to, just because of this point. His solos never overstay their welcome and they always have something to say.
1:20 - Petrucci adjusts the knobs that control planetary orbits, just in time to avoid a rampaging exoplanet from another stellar system crashing into Earth, giving Earthlings a chance to listen to his album first.
I remember the 1st time that I heard about Petrucci, LaRue & Portnoy, It was in 2009 through my mother (a person who never listens HM) and she bought me an historic concert back in 2005: G3: Live in Tokyo and the 1st song "Glasgow Kiss" was my history about these 3 members in my personal life. Now in 2020, that song is still one of my favorites and Petrucci, Portnoy & LaRue participation in G3 is still one of the best (for me). And this new song is in another level, better than the 1st time I heard. Hail John, Dave & Mike!

Yes. This album is already halfway there.
From what Jordan said recently, it could very well happen.
Hoping to see when the water breaks part 2 :)

you have touched the hearts of so many john.
oh your new album ......
thank you as we all feel.
without you the scene never would have existed as it does today.
let all new metal and prog pay homage to the mark IIc himself.
I once thought that true musicians come back.
the more I study history and what we are and where we come from I realize.
you did it all in this life.
There are female amateur drummers wearing nearly bikinis with 10-15x more subs. Just how the world is. You have blatantly fake prank channels with millions of subs, people who for some reason can't see how fake it is while legitimate prank channels pale in subs in comparison. End of the day, the true artists are not doing it for clout.
You can ear immediately that its portnoy playing. this is his place, with you mr Petrucci. your sound grows when this guy is on drums. Great song
The creativity, the tiny little variations in hits, the micro-fills he throws in... Portnoy has this style that just WORKS with Petrucci's. LOVE it.
I completely agree. They just have a musical bond that is instantly recognisable whether you're a casual listener or a hardcore fan. Truly once in a generation stuff imo.
I said exactly the same! The Portnoy touch is unique. I honestly don't like the song, but is great hear Portnoy drums.
correct!!
I got choked up for a second. It's great to see/hear them together again. Dreams do come true. And that is no knock against Mangini. Great to see Dave LaRue as well. Monster players!
Mangini is great but MP should still be DTs drummer. It still doesn't feel or sound right without him, as great as MM is.
IT's really fun seeing you and Portnoy work together you can hear the Chemistry.
Facts! I love Mangini, but Portnoy will always be my favorite.
Yes, it's so trueeeee
Yep- you can’t beat the Petrucci + Portnoy combo; they were born to play together
Portnoy got fucked. Glad Petrucci is working with him.
You can close your eyes, and feel the energy the chemistry all the things that made dream theater something special for me for almost 24 years (I'm 30), all those things are back. It is not only beautiful but very very special and important. Thanks Mike, thanks John. I love you guys
When Portnoy is behind the skins, Petrucci turns into a whole another monster. What a match made in prog heaven.

And Flawless also very Happy sound despite name Terminal Velocity. 😂
João Pedro Maldonado Gatto - Yeah, you said that.
@Todd Lewis
Sorry but A LOT on Systematic Chaos sounds like stuff from Train of Thought and Six Degrees of Inner T. and Scenes From a Memory.
But yeah he s a Melody genius aside from that. Which he proves with this Song
Hes a pro thats how.😊 can you rip off your own riffs?
@@shearfury147
He can appearently. I didnt say 1:1 rip off i meant its sounds very similar familiar
The biggest brain
Pure joy. Nothing forced about this- feels right.
Damn right, I usually don't listen to solo albums because I find the guitar to be too flashy. But this song has a ballance to it, the drums fit perfectly the riffs and solos! :)
@@victorstriga what do you think of plini and intervals?

In the 80s John Petrucci and Kevin Moore taught music lessons at Focus II Guitar Center in Commack New York. I took lessons there but not with John, a guy named Joe but I would hear John giving lessons next door. This was before they were famous. My mother took piano lessons with Kevin while I was in my guitar lessons to pass the time. She was a doctor and never practiced, I think Kevin was very patient with her but knew she wasn’t a serious student.
That’s amazing, I love stories like this.

Well said!
"Oh man, a new song from John!"
"Ouh, sounds good so far.. OMFG IS THAT PORTNOY ???!"
It has been known for a long time that Portnoy was gonna play on the new JP album.

JP & MP together again sounds perfect!! I missed this combination and chemistry!
I remember the 1st time that I heard about Petrucci, LaRue & Portnoy, It was in 2009 through my mother (a person who never listens HM) and she bought me an historic concert back in 2005: G3: Live in Tokyo
and the 1st song "Glasgow Kiss" was my history about these 3 members in my personal life.
Now in 2020, that song is still one of my favorites and Petrucci, Portnoy & LaRue participation in G3 is still one of the best (for me).
And this new song is in another level, better than the 1st time I heard.

Funny thing is he could play like this 30 years ago.

As a boy, I grew up listening to these guys since no music was available that sounded this good!. Twice I went to see them in Puerto Rico and the experience was remarkable.
