I imagine before the battle begins Kazuma waits for Subaru to arrive and when the latter shows up and announces his arrival, Kazuma in a serious tone says "finally" before breaking out and yelling "Where have you Been!? I've been waiting for 5 hours to face you"
I don't think Kazuma would say that. RBD only affects Subaru and reminds time with only Subaru keeping memories of the previous attempt. Kazuma would have no memory of it nor would he know that Subaru tried to fight him. The only way Kazuma would have the right to say it is if Kazuma was previously informed of his arrival

When subaru uses return by death, he can never get the exact same outcome from when he originally used it, so there’s a likely chance that if it’s a 1V1 he would just kinda infinitely lose if he doesn’t have a true way to defeat kazuma. The reason subaru was able to beat his enemies was because he would use return by death to get help before something happened, but if it’s strictly a 1V1 it’s not exactly all that helpful. Frankly I think this matchup becomes much more interesting if it’s a 4V4 of each of the respective parties (subaru, rem, ram and Emilia Vs Kazuma, Aqua, megumin and Darkness). That could lead to a lot more interesting outcomes in my opinion
I think it's more a "monkeys and type writers" kind of deal. Because Subaru does have the Unseen Hand magic, so he has some offense. So now he'd just have to repeat over and over until he gets a desirable outcome.
Current Subaru from web novel with Beatrice on his side (that's not cheating, she's his contracted spirit and therefore part oh his arsenal) has a good chance against kazuma. He can just use EMM to get close to kazuma and bonk him with invisible Providence
Konosuba Light novel spoilers Counterpoint: Kazuma can go invisible and instakill him with his Assassin Skill and poison both of which he got during the second to last light novel. That probably will only work once but he still has his Snipe, which he can use to kill Subaru from a distance, the arrows are 100% accurate so he'll always hit a vital point and kill him instantly. His magic is even more op, he can use Drain Touch to instantly incapacitate whoever gets touches and refill his Mana, Create Earth & Create Wind to blind Subaru or Beatrice, and Create Water & Freeze to freeze to floor making it slippery, or put ice in someone's lungs to kill them slowly. He has Bind to incapacitate someone so long as he has rope, which he always carries on him, Lightning which is a decent magic DPS option, Blind which creates a bright light everyone nearby who has their eyes open, and Create Fire which he mostly uses for utility and not combat. During the last light novel he even learned Explosion, which he can use multiple times because he bought an entire bags' worth of Manatite (though most of its used up.) His feats include but are not limited to: Incapacitating half of all the royal guards, beating Mitsurugi (who killed a dragon in one hit) twice, and killing the Demon Lord. Obviously Subaru would eventually win, but Kazuma would give him a damn tough time..

Okay, the Death Battle team better figure out how many creative ways Kazuma can kill Subaru just to pad the runtime. Because it’s not really a war of attrition since Subaru just resets to beforehand every time he dies. He can’t guarantee the outcome will ever be in his favor and these two will be fighting forever until Subaru finally finds the one version of the fight he WINS. And Aqua, once she finds Kazuma’s corpse, will resurrect him again.
It wouldn't take that many tries for Subaru to win... assuming he doesn't just win first try which is definitely possible. Kazuma's got a lot of abilities that could instantly win him the fight but if he doesn't use them immediately he'd just get stat stomped.

First, I Love This Song! And I believe by the sound at the end that Subaru would win, which I agree with. Second, related to above, as for how the battle would go down, well it would require two scenarios, the first being just Subaru and Kazuma alone, with the second allowing support from contracted allies, Beatrice for Subaru and Aqua for Kazuma respectively: 1-On the first round, honestly it would usually go to Kazuma given his higher luck, Spell list and Stats when compared to Subaru, however Subaru’s Return By Death lets him come back as many times as needed until he can win, which essentially turns this battle into a UnderTale or Soulsverse style Boss Battle where Subaru has to persevere until he wins in the end. 2-On the second scenario where Beako and Aqua are allowed, well it does increase the chances of both fighters yes, and even equals them to an extent given how despite Aqua being a goddess, her idiocy and bad luck would make Kazuma more prone to getting screwed up while Beako and Subaru can work pretty well together, however Aqua’s healing and resurrection would make Kazuma more difficult to take down, but in the end this actually boils down to two potential outcomes...: Can Aqua Exorcise And Purify Satella and her Authority-Curse from Subaru? On one side Aqua IS A Goddess of Healing, so it could be possible for her to pull it off, however on the other side we don’t know how Satella and Return By Death could be affected by actual divinity given how there’s not an actual deity on Re: Zero, but there are hints and implications that not even the Divine Dragon Volcánica and The Witch of Wrath Minerva’s Authority of Restoration could purify Satella from her Envy Authority And power to the point where she had to be sealed away, and again while Aqua is most likely more powerful than Volcánica due to being a Goddess, we don’t know if she could actually succeed. So in the end either Aqua does indeed exorcise-purify Satella and RBD, thus giving Kazuma the win, or The Witch of Envy actually resists, or even no sells it, and Subaru is able to take down Aqua before she can resurrect or heal Kazuma thus winning. So TL;DR On 1V1, Subaru would most likely win at the end if only due to RBD. But if Beako and Aqua are allowed, then it’s a 50/50 on whenever the Goddess Can stop the Witch of Envy or not. GOOD LUCK!
These two have zero luck, painful and embarrassing adventures (read comedic and not so comedic torture) but they still power through anyway. But hey maybe they have some luck they got a track here after all.

This is a fight where I wouldn't care who would win because I like both characters,but I wonder who and how they would win based on their abilities,especially with Subarus return by death.
Would you look at that… and some people were talking about this very matchup in the Naofumi VS Maple one. Well that’s a really nice matchup even if the fight if it were ever to be animated would probably be a pain to do, but the song itself is nice, inclusion of openings of the animes is really nice and I think there’s a pretty nice combo of both anime’s OPs there as opposed to Unbreakable that, while really nice, felt like it overrelied a bit too much on Rising of the Shield Hero’s OPs. On a side note I gotta say that the percussions in that one are absolutely great, same goes for the small bits with synth in them. Fits the song perfectly without standing out badly but still adding its touch. Great job there. Also, the art is good as always and I quite like the inclusion of the elements for each characters here but this goes for most tracks so I guess it’s nothing new. Overall amazing job !
I believe Kazuma takes this except he can’t really bypass subarus reset ability. Kazuma could even send Beatrice away to a number of locations away from them and could even hypothetically bind the witch’s arms that may come to attack him as he has seen non corporeal beings and even binded them with rope and chains. He also has an edge knowing numerous spells including (spoilers) explosion and is an experienced adventure. Subaru definitely ain’t just an average teen but he really has nothing to fight on the same level as kazuma except for a few trump skills and Beatrice (who he can once again teleport away). Even though kazuma could hypothetically teleport himself out of the after life to subaru again i don’t think we’ve seen him do that so subarus reset ability means he will eventually come out the final victor i think

Probably not, as it requires to go back in time, and Heaven is a place where time DOESN'T run. I'd say it's the perfect way to end the fight
I'm gonna have to give this one to kazuma. Both can come back from the dead, but one of them simply has superior hax and abilities. Light novel Kazuma is genuinely fucking insane, and not afraid to play dirty. Even with return from the dead, the second suberu finds a way to kill kazuma....kazume can come back using teleportation (again, light novel gets insane) Overall, Kazuma just has more ways to kill suberu. Although it'd technically be a stalemate, I think Suberu would genuinely give up eventually due to the stat differences. He'd die a LOT more than Kazuma would
Oh yea we’re definitely gonna see more Isekai MUs pop up. Really good music tho I’ve only watched the Konosuba anime, haven’t read the light novels. Never bothered to watch Re:Zero but I know the main dude has some respawning ability that kind of works like loading a previous save in a game? Dunno if Kazuma really has anything to counter that.
Subaru has return by death, so basically every time he dies he returns to a specific point of time. It updates but he can’t control that . He mostly used it to gather information on people and find their weaknesses. Than either finds a solotion himself or gets help from others to defeat the threat that keeps killing him . Also any death triggers this, including suicide. Though there is an AU where it stops working but Kazuma shouldn’t really be able to make that happen.
Konosuba vs Re:Zero Isekai vs Isekai Adventurer vs Knight Good luck vs Bad luck Magic vs Magic Immortality vs Immortality I liked the music as well as the art. Not too sure who would win since technically both could come back to life as many times as it takes, the only difference being Subaru goes back in time and can’t tell anyone(except Echidna) about that power. Given how Kazuma is more fitted for fighting with his adventurer career and variety of skills and magic, I think Kazuma would win
This fight is basically the definition of an inconclusive match, neither has anything to put the other down permanently from just reviving, although Kazuma is far stronger stat wise, he has nothing that can stop Subaru's Return by Death, but in the later chapters of the LN, Kazuma gains something simaler to it, so Subaru can't kill him either, so this fight lasts for an infinite amount of time if both are truely bloodlusted.
Well (spoilers for the end of the Konosuba light novel) Kazuma now has a permanent teleport point to heaven. So, he could theoretically trap Subaru in the afterlife. Even if you don't consider that a win, the portal would also allow him direct access to Eris and similar characters who could likely lift the curse of the Witch of Envy from Subaru and thus remove Return by Death.
@@richardfarland1095 RBD isn’t really a curse but more of the Witch of Envy restarting Subaru so Subaru won’t die unless the Witch allows it but it is possible to kill Subaru if his soul is destroyed or if the Witch of Envy can’t reach him when he dies (like in Echidna’s Dream World)

Betting for Kazuma for now. But to list a few of Subaru's advantages as of late: He is physically stronger and more skilled than Kazuma, and his healing factor would allow him to heal from most of Kazuma's spells. Anyway, nice track... Hope this happens. Edit: Alright I think my verdict has changed. Subaru would win more times than not. In terms of stats like speed alone, he has the advantage. He can and has reacted to light and can react to opponents faster than sound, whereas some of Kazuma's speed feats somehow only reaches FTE/Subsonic. Strength is a close one. Kazuma can wrestle a boar, while Subaru can match someone who can crush a car and has even killed bears with just his whip. The problem would be his various spells and abilities, which if he is careful enough, would all be rendered useless to him, eventually tiring Kazuma of his mana reserves, closing the distance and slaying him right then and there. As for their skills and intelligence, both are smart. But Subaru is more than likely, at least, to take a fight more seriously than Kazuma does. In terms of fighting skills and experience, Kazuma has had the better weapons training, and that is with a sword and a bow, but Subaru has him outclassed in a mid-range fight considering his whip skills, and in hand to hand combat, as per his fistfight with Garfiel and his fights with Todd in the current Arcs.
Kazuma is much smarter, has a higher luck stat, and has way more magical skills/abilities than Subaru. Plus Kazuma could use his enemy sense and among other abilities to help him somehow figure Subaru's Return by Death ability just like Roswaal did in the Re:Zero series, then Kazuma could just BFR Subaru to the afterlife with his teleporting ability.

@@Remisaku and? kazuma can take harder hits than building level and due to his luck subaru isn't hitting even with his speed (which kazuma can match in the light novels) Not to mention, kazuma actually has a way to trap subaru in the plain of death and end the fight without technically killing him via teleportation, where as Kazuma can just ALWAYS come back via teleport.
The music here is awesome! Also if this fight happens I think there’d be more paradox deaths than Goku Black vs Reverse flash. My money is on kazuma cause he has actual fire power that doesn’t require the use of others (like how Subaru uses Beatrice who wouldn’t be in this fight cause it’s 1v1 unless they pull the familiar Card or something being a summon) and a lot more nifty tricks. All Ik is there’s gonna be more respawns than a TF2 FFA match.

Since we're on the topic of anime matchups, here's one I thought of myself; Jonathan Joestar vs Tanjiro Kamado Both use special breathing techniques, both fight monsters, both are gentlemen, and both of them use swords (Jonathan uses his hands more than his sword though) Point is this is a pretty good matchup theme wise, not sure who'd win but I'd say Tanjiro wins

It’s been a fairly popular match for a while. Another really good connection is “sibling turned into man-eating monster.” Demon Slayer Manga Spoilers ahead! It depends on what you want to give Tanjiro here. Demon form is an automatic win, being completely immortal and you’d basically need to erase every last cell to kill Tanjiro at that point. If this is just Breathing to Breathing it becomes a bit harder to understand. Jonathan is definitely faster and could probably interrupt Tanjiro’s breathing and has a slight edge in power over Tanjiro without his Slayer Mark at least while Tanjiro has better durability, possibly be stronger with the Slayer Mark amp from the Entertainment District Arc and far more skilled with a sword. Jonathan also has better healing and stronger hax considering the water and flame aren’t real and are just a visual metaphor. Jonathan might also be able to screw with Tanjiro’s mind if we want to take Joseph as an example. Joseph, without any training or experience with Hamon, knocked a guy out by just using Hamon on him, which could change the tide of the battle. I’d also like to point out that Tanjiro’s current sword has no record of breaking or being severely damaged even after fighting Muzan and same goes for every other Slayer at the time while Jonathan’s sword definitely would be easier to break. Although the Nichirin Blade could also be AGAINST Tanjiro considering how they work to begin with. They have been exposed to sunlight for so long that they give off the effects of sunlight, making it fairly likely that Hamon could conduct through the blade even better than most other materials. Maybe even catch fire or those mind shenanigans I mentioned earlier.

@@AriesZero Tanjiro’s current sword, the one with Rengoku’s guard has not broken. It’s also explicitly said that the sword that Tanjiro uses for the first half of the story is a badly made sword and shouldn’t break. The demon form bit is a bit odd. He became a demon because of Muzan but I don’t think outside help should apply there. It’s like saying Demon Nezuko would be outside help.
Aight I did not see this one coming. We start strong, ngl. A quick bit that drags out perfectly, keeping the hype in the track. The piano part resembles Subaru, which works since Re:Zero is kind of a serious isekai, unlike Konosuba which is a comedic one. It's a nice track that I can enjoy overall, not too much to say. The ending feels like Kazuma won, so ye. Tbh I like this MU. It's "inmortal isekai protagonists" and it's a fun MU. Kinda weird since again, Konosuba is comedic, Re:Zero is serious, but I can take that. Kasuma probably wins, idr why.

Okay just remember that Death Battles official stance on characters who return from the dead, don't get that in the death battle. As said in the Yoda vs Mickey Q&A, when asked about the fact Yoda could keep on going as a ghost, they said they didn't do it since Yoda had already died and therefor lost. So even if we know they'll be back, its one and done. As you can technically make the same argument for Link, Zelda and Ganon.
Well not really. They didn't allow Yoda to keep fighting as a force ghost because him continuing as a force ghost was only theoretical and would contradict the logic of Star Wars (ie why Force Ghosts don't just do everything if they can fight and never lose). They have had characters before that they gave revives to. The big thing is time limit. Reverse Flash and Link were allowed to use their revives because they are both instantaneous. Kratos wasn't given it because it would take him a lot of time to fight his way back out of the underworld. They have explained in some db casts that they consider the revives on an individual basis.
Speaking of Konosawa, who would be a good opponent for Darkness? She is pretty OP in terms of her defence, but has 0 accuracy with a weapon. My only (joke) suggestion has been Iris Heart from Neptunia... just to see who would break (or get tired/bored) first... in a purely scientific sense.
@@3kojimbles895 At least a town/city level for tanking the explosion that Megumin used to try kill her and Vanir. She has also survived an insta-kill spell from Vanir (but that might be more magical defence.) VS Wiki mentions lifting the hydra which would give her island level lifting strenght... I do recall her surviving the acid of said hydra, but I need to look up the lifting part again.
I may not be a massive fan of this matchup, but as a fan of both series, this is really great and I probably wouldn't mind it becoming an actual episode
If we go by anime, Suburu has a slight chance to win, Kazuma to my knowledge has more skills and is stronger, but subaru has the unseen hands. Return by death is prolly turned off here. I heard subaru gets BUSTED in the light novel tho☠

I personally think that Kazuma would win. Sure, Subaru has his "Return by Death", but he'd probably perma-die eventually from overusing skills that use up his soul. Kazuma also has Drain Touch, which rends any of Subaru's mana-based skills useless, which is especially apparent when many of his best abilities are these mana-based skills. I say it rends it useless instead of just being an advantage, since regular mana-based organisms in Kazuma's world are also usually immediately drained of their mana. Though, with how Subaru can come back from the death with prior knowledge, he'd eventually figure out Kazuma's Drain Touch and would avoid it, but avoiding something like that would probably be inevitable, since Kazuma has such a variety of spells in comparison to Subaru. Even Subaru's go-to ability "Shamak", which shoots a thick fog of smoke that confuses the target (and in turn binds him from using any other magic until it is finished,) isn't even a good trick to use anymore, since Kazuma has abilities like Wind Breath (to remove the smoke,) Flash (to similarly disorient Subaru to even the playing field,) and even Kazuma's natural auto-dodge and high luck that allows him to avoid attacks without much thought. He could even create a similar attack through smashing earth and blowing it into a dust cloud with his magic, which he has done before, without rendering the rest of his magic useless. Even if Kazuma was caught by this ability, his perception, luck, and intellect would likely let him hold his own, even in that bad of a situation. At an even worse situation, even if Subaru had used EMT, it is stated that it only negates the use of magic within that radius, which doesn't stop Kazuma from using weapons like his sword and bow, both of which he is very adept with. It is even said by the author that Subaru would likely lose a fistfight, which Kazuma is adept in close quarters in the first place with several abilities and tools oriented around it, such as Steal, which would rend Subaru without his whip... and probably his underwear. Looks like Kazuma gave Subaru a proper "game over".

If you give Subaru Beatrice (which you probably should as she's contracted to him), then Subaru can use a far more powerful drain touch on Kazuma. Literally the first time we meet Beatrice she uses a drain touch on Subaru that she has stated could have killed him if she chose to.
One has a curse that allows him to respawn at a certain point in time after dying (Subaru). The other one, (Kazuma), has the ability to steal anything depending on his luck, as well as some minor abilities he gains through experience. Other than that they're not at all powerful and most of time they tend to be the brains of the group while all of there friends are the ones fighting.

This is important because there's no feasible way to end oneself in the world of the dead if you're trapped there while alive. Kazuma's counter would be teleporting Subaru TO the realm of the dead. Subaru shouldn't have a way to get out, and even the witch wouldn't be able to help as the realm of the dead is under the care of eris- a god in kanosuba. This also means subaru can't counter kazuma coming back from the dead as his mana resets when he dies

When subaru uses return by death, he can never get the exact same outcome from when he originally used it, so there’s a likely chance that if it’s a 1V1 he would just kinda infinitely lose if he doesn’t have a true way to defeat kazuma. The reason subaru was able to beat his enemies was because he would use return by death to get help before something happened, but if it’s strictly a 1V1 it’s not exactly all that helpful.
Frankly I think this matchup becomes much more interesting if it’s a 4V4 of each of the respective parties (subaru, rem, ram and Emilia Vs Kazuma, Aqua, megumin and Darkness). That could lead to a lot more interesting outcomes in my opinion

I think it's more a "monkeys and type writers" kind of deal. Because Subaru does have the Unseen Hand magic, so he has some offense. So now he'd just have to repeat over and over until he gets a desirable outcome.
Current Subaru from web novel with Beatrice on his side (that's not cheating, she's his contracted spirit and therefore part oh his arsenal) has a good chance against kazuma. He can just use EMM to get close to kazuma and bonk him with invisible Providence

Counterpoint: Kazuma can go invisible and instakill him with his Assassin Skill and poison both of which he got during the second to last light novel. That probably will only work once but he still has his Snipe, which he can use to kill Subaru from a distance, the arrows are 100% accurate so he'll always hit a vital point and kill him instantly. His magic is even more op, he can use Drain Touch to instantly incapacitate whoever gets touches and refill his Mana, Create Earth & Create Wind to blind Subaru or Beatrice, and Create Water & Freeze to freeze to floor making it slippery, or put ice in someone's lungs to kill them slowly. He has Bind to incapacitate someone so long as he has rope, which he always carries on him, Lightning which is a decent magic DPS option, Blind which creates a bright light everyone nearby who has their eyes open, and Create Fire which he mostly uses for utility and not combat. During the last light novel he even learned Explosion, which he can use multiple times because he bought an entire bags' worth of Manatite (though most of its used up.) His feats include but are not limited to: Incapacitating half of all the royal guards, beating Mitsurugi (who killed a dragon in one hit) twice, and killing the Demon Lord.
Obviously Subaru would eventually win, but Kazuma would give him a damn tough time..

Okay, the Death Battle team better figure out how many creative ways Kazuma can kill Subaru just to pad the runtime. Because it’s not really a war of attrition since Subaru just resets to beforehand every time he dies. He can’t guarantee the outcome will ever be in his favor and these two will be fighting forever until Subaru finally finds the one version of the fight he WINS. And Aqua, once she finds Kazuma’s corpse, will resurrect him again.
It wouldn't take that many tries for Subaru to win... assuming he doesn't just win first try which is definitely possible. Kazuma's got a lot of abilities that could instantly win him the fight but if he doesn't use them immediately he'd just get stat stomped.

First, I Love This Song! And I believe by the sound at the end that Subaru would win, which I agree with.
Second, related to above, as for how the battle would go down, well it would require two scenarios, the first being just Subaru and Kazuma alone, with the second allowing support from contracted allies, Beatrice for Subaru and Aqua for Kazuma respectively:
1-On the first round, honestly it would usually go to Kazuma given his higher luck, Spell list and Stats when compared to Subaru, however Subaru’s Return By Death lets him come back as many times as needed until he can win, which essentially turns this battle into a UnderTale or Soulsverse style Boss Battle where Subaru has to persevere until he wins in the end.
2-On the second scenario where Beako and Aqua are allowed, well it does increase the chances of both fighters yes, and even equals them to an extent given how despite Aqua being a goddess, her idiocy and bad luck would make Kazuma more prone to getting screwed up while Beako and Subaru can work pretty well together, however Aqua’s healing and resurrection would make Kazuma more difficult to take down, but in the end this actually boils down to two potential outcomes...:
Can Aqua Exorcise And Purify Satella and her Authority-Curse from Subaru?
On one side Aqua IS A Goddess of Healing, so it could be possible for her to pull it off, however on the other side we don’t know how Satella and Return By Death could be affected by actual divinity given how there’s not an actual deity on Re: Zero, but there are hints and implications that not even the Divine Dragon Volcánica and The Witch of Wrath Minerva’s Authority of Restoration could purify Satella from her Envy Authority And power to the point where she had to be sealed away, and again while Aqua is most likely more powerful than Volcánica due to being a Goddess, we don’t know if she could actually succeed.
So in the end either Aqua does indeed exorcise-purify Satella and RBD, thus giving Kazuma the win, or The Witch of Envy actually resists, or even no sells it, and Subaru is able to take down Aqua before she can resurrect or heal Kazuma thus winning.
So TL;DR On 1V1, Subaru would most likely win at the end if only due to RBD. But if Beako and Aqua are allowed, then it’s a 50/50 on whenever the Goddess Can stop the Witch of Envy or not.

Well that’s a really nice matchup even if the fight if it were ever to be animated would probably be a pain to do, but the song itself is nice, inclusion of openings of the animes is really nice and I think there’s a pretty nice combo of both anime’s OPs there as opposed to Unbreakable that, while really nice, felt like it overrelied a bit too much on Rising of the Shield Hero’s OPs.
On a side note I gotta say that the percussions in that one are absolutely great, same goes for the small bits with synth in them. Fits the song perfectly without standing out badly but still adding its touch.

Also, the art is good as always and I quite like the inclusion of the elements for each characters here but this goes for most tracks so I guess it’s nothing new.

I believe Kazuma takes this except he can’t really bypass subarus reset ability. Kazuma could even send Beatrice away to a number of locations away from them and could even hypothetically bind the witch’s arms that may come to attack him as he has seen non corporeal beings and even binded them with rope and chains. He also has an edge knowing numerous spells including (spoilers) explosion and is an experienced adventure. Subaru definitely ain’t just an average teen but he really has nothing to fight on the same level as kazuma except for a few trump skills and Beatrice (who he can once again teleport away). Even though kazuma could hypothetically teleport himself out of the after life to subaru again i don’t think we’ve seen him do that so subarus reset ability means he will eventually come out the final victor i think
Spoilers for the light novels: Kazuma can basically teleport himself and others to and from the afterlife so he could just strand Subaru there

I'm gonna have to give this one to kazuma. Both can come back from the dead, but one of them simply has superior hax and abilities. Light novel Kazuma is genuinely fucking insane, and not afraid to play dirty. Even with return from the dead, the second suberu finds a way to kill kazuma....kazume can come back using teleportation (again, light novel gets insane)
Overall, Kazuma just has more ways to kill suberu. Although it'd technically be a stalemate, I think Suberu would genuinely give up eventually due to the stat differences. He'd die a LOT more than Kazuma would

Never bothered to watch Re:Zero but I know the main dude has some respawning ability that kind of works like loading a previous save in a game? Dunno if Kazuma really has anything to counter that.
Subaru has return by death, so basically every time he dies he returns to a specific point of time. It updates but he can’t control that . He mostly used it to gather information on people and find their weaknesses. Than either finds a solotion himself or gets help from others to defeat the threat that keeps killing him . Also any death triggers this, including suicide. Though there is an AU where it stops working but Kazuma shouldn’t really be able to make that happen.

This fight is basically the definition of an inconclusive match, neither has anything to put the other down permanently from just reviving, although Kazuma is far stronger stat wise, he has nothing that can stop Subaru's Return by Death, but in the later chapters of the LN, Kazuma gains something simaler to it, so Subaru can't kill him either, so this fight lasts for an infinite amount of time if both are truely bloodlusted.

Kazuma now has a permanent teleport point to heaven. So, he could theoretically trap Subaru in the afterlife. Even if you don't consider that a win, the portal would also allow him direct access to Eris and similar characters who could likely lift the curse of the Witch of Envy from Subaru and thus remove Return by Death.

Betting for Kazuma for now. But to list a few of Subaru's advantages as of late:
He is physically stronger and more skilled than Kazuma, and his healing factor would allow him to heal from most of Kazuma's spells.

Edit: Alright I think my verdict has changed. Subaru would win more times than not.
In terms of stats like speed alone, he has the advantage. He can and has reacted to light and can react to opponents faster than sound, whereas some of Kazuma's speed feats somehow only reaches FTE/Subsonic. Strength is a close one. Kazuma can wrestle a boar, while Subaru can match someone who can crush a car and has even killed bears with just his whip.
The problem would be his various spells and abilities, which if he is careful enough, would all be rendered useless to him, eventually tiring Kazuma of his mana reserves, closing the distance and slaying him right then and there.
As for their skills and intelligence, both are smart. But Subaru is more than likely, at least, to take a fight more seriously than Kazuma does. In terms of fighting skills and experience, Kazuma has had the better weapons training, and that is with a sword and a bow, but Subaru has him outclassed in a mid-range fight considering his whip skills, and in hand to hand combat, as per his fistfight with Garfiel and his fights with Todd in the current Arcs.
Kazuma is much smarter, has a higher luck stat, and has way more magical skills/abilities than Subaru. Plus Kazuma could use his enemy sense and among other abilities to help him somehow figure Subaru's Return by Death ability just like Roswaal did in the Re:Zero series, then Kazuma could just BFR Subaru to the afterlife with his teleporting ability.

Since we're on the topic of anime matchups, here's one I thought of myself; Jonathan Joestar vs Tanjiro Kamado
Both use special breathing techniques, both fight monsters, both are gentlemen, and both of them use swords (Jonathan uses his hands more than his sword though)
Point is this is a pretty good matchup theme wise, not sure who'd win but I'd say Tanjiro wins

It depends on what you want to give Tanjiro here. Demon form is an automatic win, being completely immortal and you’d basically need to erase every last cell to kill Tanjiro at that point. If this is just Breathing to Breathing it becomes a bit harder to understand. Jonathan is definitely faster and could probably interrupt Tanjiro’s breathing and has a slight edge in power over Tanjiro without his Slayer Mark at least while Tanjiro has better durability, possibly be stronger with the Slayer Mark amp from the Entertainment District Arc and far more skilled with a sword. Jonathan also has better healing and stronger hax considering the water and flame aren’t real and are just a visual metaphor. Jonathan might also be able to screw with Tanjiro’s mind if we want to take Joseph as an example. Joseph, without any training or experience with Hamon, knocked a guy out by just using Hamon on him, which could change the tide of the battle. I’d also like to point out that Tanjiro’s current sword has no record of breaking or being severely damaged even after fighting Muzan and same goes for every other Slayer at the time while Jonathan’s sword definitely would be easier to break. Although the Nichirin Blade could also be AGAINST Tanjiro considering how they work to begin with. They have been exposed to sunlight for so long that they give off the effects of sunlight, making it fairly likely that Hamon could conduct through the blade even better than most other materials. Maybe even catch fire or those mind shenanigans I mentioned earlier.

@@AriesZero Tanjiro’s current sword, the one with Rengoku’s guard has not broken. It’s also explicitly said that the sword that Tanjiro uses for the first half of the story is a badly made sword and shouldn’t break.
The demon form bit is a bit odd. He became a demon because of Muzan but I don’t think outside help should apply there. It’s like saying Demon Nezuko would be outside help.
Aight I did not see this one coming. We start strong, ngl. A quick bit that drags out perfectly, keeping the hype in the track. The piano part resembles Subaru, which works since Re:Zero is kind of a serious isekai, unlike Konosuba which is a comedic one. It's a nice track that I can enjoy overall, not too much to say. The ending feels like Kazuma won, so ye.
Tbh I like this MU. It's "inmortal isekai protagonists" and it's a fun MU. Kinda weird since again, Konosuba is comedic, Re:Zero is serious, but I can take that.

Okay just remember that Death Battles official stance on characters who return from the dead, don't get that in the death battle. As said in the Yoda vs Mickey Q&A, when asked about the fact Yoda could keep on going as a ghost, they said they didn't do it since Yoda had already died and therefor lost. So even if we know they'll be back, its one and done. As you can technically make the same argument for Link, Zelda and Ganon.
To be fair, Goku Black vs Reverse Flash also kinda counts within that, but they somehow let both of them just kill each other
Well not really. They didn't allow Yoda to keep fighting as a force ghost because him continuing as a force ghost was only theoretical and would contradict the logic of Star Wars (ie why Force Ghosts don't just do everything if they can fight and never lose).
They have had characters before that they gave revives to. The big thing is time limit. Reverse Flash and Link were allowed to use their revives because they are both instantaneous. Kratos wasn't given it because it would take him a lot of time to fight his way back out of the underworld. They have explained in some db casts that they consider the revives on an individual basis.
Speaking of Konosawa, who would be a good opponent for Darkness? She is pretty OP in terms of her defence, but has 0 accuracy with a weapon.
My only (joke) suggestion has been Iris Heart from Neptunia... just to see who would break (or get tired/bored) first... in a purely scientific sense.

@@3kojimbles895 At least a town/city level for tanking the explosion that Megumin used to try kill her and Vanir. She has also survived an insta-kill spell from Vanir (but that might be more magical defence.)
VS Wiki mentions lifting the hydra which would give her island level lifting strenght... I do recall her surviving the acid of said hydra, but I need to look up the lifting part again.

I personally think that Kazuma would win. Sure, Subaru has his "Return by Death", but he'd probably perma-die eventually from overusing skills that use up his soul. Kazuma also has Drain Touch, which rends any of Subaru's mana-based skills useless, which is especially apparent when many of his best abilities are these mana-based skills. I say it rends it useless instead of just being an advantage, since regular mana-based organisms in Kazuma's world are also usually immediately drained of their mana.
Though, with how Subaru can come back from the death with prior knowledge, he'd eventually figure out Kazuma's Drain Touch and would avoid it, but avoiding something like that would probably be inevitable, since Kazuma has such a variety of spells in comparison to Subaru. Even Subaru's go-to ability "Shamak", which shoots a thick fog of smoke that confuses the target (and in turn binds him from using any other magic until it is finished,) isn't even a good trick to use anymore, since Kazuma has abilities like Wind Breath (to remove the smoke,) Flash (to similarly disorient Subaru to even the playing field,) and even Kazuma's natural auto-dodge and high luck that allows him to avoid attacks without much thought. He could even create a similar attack through smashing earth and blowing it into a dust cloud with his magic, which he has done before, without rendering the rest of his magic useless. Even if Kazuma was caught by this ability, his perception, luck, and intellect would likely let him hold his own, even in that bad of a situation. At an even worse situation, even if Subaru had used EMT, it is stated that it only negates the use of magic within that radius, which doesn't stop Kazuma from using weapons like his sword and bow, both of which he is very adept with. It is even said by the author that Subaru would likely lose a fistfight, which Kazuma is adept in close quarters in the first place with several abilities and tools oriented around it, such as Steal, which would rend Subaru without his whip... and probably his underwear.
Looks like Kazuma gave Subaru a proper "game over".
Shamak isn't an ability that you can just blow away. The cloud aesthetic is misleading.
Strength, DC and AP: Can give a increible puch with unseen hand to garfield who tired can fight because his divine protection and almost knockout if subaru can perfection the unseen hand can take a increible attack.
IQ and BIQ: Make strategiest in little prep time with sirius in arc 5, only have 8 minutes to creat a strategiest, with return by death can make a better strategies and know who stronger are the enemy and find the weakness of this.

How powerful are these two characters because I know nothing about both of these series
One has a curse that allows him to respawn at a certain point in time after dying (Subaru). The other one, (Kazuma), has the ability to steal anything depending on his luck, as well as some minor abilities he gains through experience. Other than that they're not at all powerful and most of time they tend to be the brains of the group while all of there friends are the ones fighting.
Pretty weak, the weakest characters in their respective series (other than literal children).
@@nico-v113 but one is stronger in maturity and post-season 2 takes a level in badass by being Emilia's knight and having a whip as his main weapon, and if you've seen the Castlevania animated series, you can tell how using a whip as a weapon is pretty fucking badass
@@nico-v113 Kazuma is actually skilled and could get in and out of the King’s palace. He did need some help but he was mostly self sufficient and took down a number of guards.

@@nomletparti2622 in the light novel kazuma eventually gains the ability to teleport out of and into the world of the dead at will. This is important because there's no feasible way to end oneself in the world of the dead if you're trapped there while alive. Kazuma's counter would be teleporting Subaru TO the realm of the dead. Subaru shouldn't have a way to get out, and even the witch wouldn't be able to help as the realm of the dead is under the care of eris- a god in kanosuba. This also means subaru can't counter kazuma coming back from the dead as his mana resets when he dies

Bet's on Subaru. I'm tired of pretending that his only ability is return by death, when he has multiple different abilities. Even not counting Beatrice, even though I probably should as she's his contracted spirit, he still has the guiltywhip from arc 5, invisible providence, lion's heart, his extreme agility (enough to juke out Regulus in arc 5) and the dragon's blood to regenerate. I'd say Kazuma has no chance, especially since Re Zero isn't even finished.,
