    I was very pleased at the end when I saw so many halibut to be processed. The set seemed to be Skate after skate it was also interesting to see that whilst in proportion you were catching a higher percentage of skate the number of cod caught in the set was way down. But overall a good return of Halibut for a set. Initially I was feeling well you fluked a nice netting of herring so bait cost way down but all you were catching was skate in return so good karma was not being rewarded. Overall a good enjoyable video, thank You.

    One idea Matt maybe consider to put a camera in the middle of your line under water . It will be great to have some footage of that , and maybe it will help you guys understand more about the fish actions , maybe the hooks or the length of them . Or how they approach the bait and etc.

I hope Matt can claim tax back on the $25 for the lost gaff, well Dad did have to cover his running expenses🙂

    I know in hobby fishing size of bait matters. The larger the bait the larger the fish. Have you ever tried whole fish as bait? I am guessing the cost on return may not work with your number of hooks.

  • @DavidWade55

    A nice swivel stool fitted to the underneath of that baiting table that swings out would be nice to rest on , it will help your back and feet resting as you work , 😝

    • @EISAlaska
      @EISAlaska  3 месяца назад

      Haha, that’s a novel idea! As uncomfortable as it might be we gotta stay on our feet since it’s more ergonomic for working, a stool sadly might also prove a hazard for line or hooks to get wrapped around inadvertently. 🥲

    It's unfortunate that skate has no value in your area. I was watching an English fisherman targeting them in and around the Bristol Channel. My bet is that skate wings find their way into fish fingers as well as wet fish in a fishmonger's shop. I don't think it's an acquired taste as such. I've seen it in lower South Island (NZ) fish shops so there must be a demand.

    You all are catching a lot of Skates. Probably a payback for releasing the big Halibut the other day. Next time don't slam a gaff into the Halibut if you are going to release it. And yes, you did release it, which was obvious by the lack of action by the old man, not even trying to help with a 2nd gaff. I'm not upset because you wanted it to go back, I'm upset because of the one gaff that did get in to the fish. You know better and the audience deserves better.
