I am a simple man - I see Blind Guardian, I hear "Valhalla" I click "like". Honestly, I feel honored to have heard and seen this band in front of maybe 200 people, when they were about to take off here in germany. Greetings to all brothers and sisters of metal around the globe!
Rumor has it, the crowd is still chanting til this day.
We actually use "Valhalla" as our rally cry at work.
The Bard Song, from the same concert, the crowd sings the whole song. It's awesome.

saw gravedigger do that on stage in 2010 got me so rilled up i had to use most of the night to cool down
Hell yeah, that live rendition with the one and only Hansi on stage transformed a great song into awesomeness. Totally recommend it!

BG are one of those bands that sounds better live then in studio. Great job.
I don't agree : they really sound better studio IMO, but they're still great for sure live :) Valhalla though is way better live, I agree.
I actually think Valhalla and The Bard's Song are better live for the crowd participation experience. Besides those two songs, all their songs sound very good, regardless of studio or live production.
@@braindeadstonehead9500 I pretty much agree, but Hansi can't handle all his screams throughout the whole show (Majesty, I'm Alive, etc.) as on studio versions, that's totally impossible IMO anyway. So much vocals layers and guitars layers on IFTOS, NIME and ANATO (not a fan after that last one) that can't be reproduced live also. That's pretty much the reasons why. Also you really have to know the original to fully appreciate the live versions, for any bands, according to me. ;)
I disagree. At least with the albums up until A Night at the Opera. All those layers of guitars and vocals don’t translate to the live shows. It’s an entirely different experience.

Blind Guardian is used to people singing Valhalla ad nauseam, which is why they always make sure its their last song. After one of their shows, you can hear half an hour later on the way to the hotel or in parking garages etc someone still going "Vaaalhaaaalaaaa ..." xD
This is why they are called The Kings of the crowd ^^. I have seen them 6 times live and each time it was awsome.
Same!!! Six times and one time Demons and Wizards (where Hansi sings and writes too), and I'm only 21. Worth the money every time.
Legend says that concert still continues today...

The lead singer used to play bass as well. On his first shows without his bass, he did not know what to do. He is a little more comfortable on stage now.
On the studio version, the "So many centuries..." part is sung by Kai Hansen from Gamma Ray and now Helloween again.

The singer of Blind Guardian has a really cool side project with Jon Schaffer from Iced Earth called Demons & Wizards. Demons & Wizards played on Wacken Open Air this year (well worth a listen too, they go better with every song they played) and they played Valhalla too. After the song was over, the crowd kept chanting the chorus over and over. It lasted for several minutes just like in this vid, but even Hansi himself couldn't get them to stop chanting when they wanted to continue on with the rest of the set. It gave me chills all over, there was so much love for the musicians.
You should see the whole concert, it is a jewek, in the same concert, later after another song, the audience starts to sing again, valhalla deliverance, jajajaja is epic, Hansi starts to laugh. They are great, in another concert the audience start to ask for the song Majesty, Hansi tells them that that song is not in the track list they prepared for the evening, but that if they wanted it, well, they will get it and Bling Guardian performs the song
If you make great music since 1984, this is how the crowd celebrates you. I love Blind Guardian!

Blind Guardian is my favorite band ❤ Being part of that crowd is the greatest memory of my life.. and it was magical. (Not the crowd in the video, but the crowd in general. Every single performance, no matter where they perform, the crowd is always like this. And it's beautiful.)
Back in 2002 I got to see them live in small icerink here in sweden with far to many People inside. Most epic show I been on all my life. You really need to do bard song live!

Just peeked through a wormwhole to Valhalla...the Valkyries and Vikings are raving to this song :). Also...some studio albums are better than seeing a live performance. However...I'm sure you have experienced this too...there are bands that truly shine with a live show. Case in point : Nightwish. Hearing them is bliss but seeing them too, live or through a quality video of live show,your brain will melt and high pressure pour out your ears and nostrils. On to binge video #3 of the night :).

I love Blind Guardian, and love them more because of seeing several times this version I find in recomendations Ghost Love Score Wacken 2013 and then i see Floor Jansen for the first time. Rest is history.
Try mirror mirror, the last candle, the script for my requiem, wheel of time, the ninth wave or sacred mind.. All BG is awesome but those are personal favourites of mine 🤘

Man you really need to check out Ayreon - The Day That the World Breaks Down. It features Hansi (Blind Guardian), Simmone, and of course Floor, as well as 8 others....yes 8. 11 great vocalists on one epic track!

Blind Guardian was the first heavy band I started listening when I was 15 or 16. Now almost 20 years later this brings back good memories)

also, the reason you were getting old school thrash metal vibes is because that's the era this song is from. this was on their 1989 release and they would give any of the big 4 a run for their money back then, they just didn't have the same production value.
The studio version had *Kai Hansen* as a guest on the guitars and the vocals in the bridge part. You know Kai Hansen from early *Helloween.* You should listen to *Gamma Ray,* the band he formed when he left Helloween. I suggest *Rising Star/Shine On* from the *Skeletons in the Closet* Live album.
BG nickname is the wizards of the crowd.

Just as a note: In the studio version, the "so many centuries, so many gods" parts before the refrain are sung by Kai Hansen (Gamma Ray, Helloween), not by Hansi Kürsch (singer of Blind Guardian).
Kai has an absurdly high-pitched voice, that even Hansi can not/doesn't want to replicate, that's why he sings those parts in a lower key in the live versions. 😉

I was at this show and have to say, best one ever seen, the chorus in the end was about 10 minutes, think they had to cut it a little bit for the DVD 🤣

To be fair, the video and audio quality is top notch.... For the time it was recorded in. This is proper old-school DVD in 480p. There simply isn't anything higher, there were no cameras in existence that recorded above 480p. ;) 720p wasn't even a thing back then (In 2004).
I'd definitely suggest Bard Song, Nightfall, or And Then There Was Silence next.
Also worth checking out is Demons & Wizards, it's a side project from Hansi Kürsch(The vocalist from Blind Guardian) and Jon Schaffer(guitarist from Iced Earth). They did their first live concert since 10 years this year at Wacken, it was live streamed, and oh, yes, they did Valhalla as well. Can confirm, the crowd is still going.

When suggesting, people should also mention which video in this case - Bling Guardian sounds better live than studio but the good quality videos may not be the first one in the search, in fact they often have few views. There is official live video for Mirror Mirror, so that can be one of the next.

I`m a "little bit" late to the show but can I bribe you with an upvote for every single BG-reaction? For me they are in the ranks of Iron Maiden and Metallica! An iconic band I listen to for almost 40 years now.
Has anyone mentioned "Mirror Mirror", "Bright Eyes", "Time stands still at the Iron Hilll", "And then there was silence"? Or... anything, actually, when I think about it. It's not like you could catch a bad Blind Guardian record. They probably wouldn't even get it bad if they tried...

Hansi Kürsch is the Bard to Floor Jansen as the Valkyrie. as far as i know, the best male/female singers in Metal respectively.

It's surprising, but I only really got into Blind Guardian in the past 3 years, despite them being really scene-famous back in the day. Just didn't reach me then, appreciating them much more nowadays! And strangely enough, by coming over from Demons & Wizards!
