This whole album was inspired by J.R.R Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. Or more like the humungous backstory to the actual story. This specific song is the tale (and inevitable fall) of a hidden elven city in the mountains named Gondolin. The whole album is amazing for a LOTR lover, even if you've never read The Silmarillion.

I agree, you need more Blind Guardian in your life. Everybody needs more Blind Guardian in their lives. I wholeheartedly recommend Sacred Worlds. So far, I haven't been able to find a good quality live performance but, push come to shove, there's always the in-game performance from Sacred 2 video game. This is my favorite Blind Guardian song. I love Hans vocals are amazing. I see where people are suggesting Ayreon "The Day That the Earth Breaks Down" . It is really amazing. There is like 13 different singers. Some of which you know. Thanks for the song. I have another smile............. :-)
Blind Guardian was the first Metal Band I listened to. Started when I was about 12, i think. They still have a few songs on my everyday playlist. Like "theatre of pain" or "Mordred's Song". Great to see them still appreciated by others!
Live version is really cool, but the studio version of this song is way different and better to hear first imo

mirror mirror is played everytime as the last song to their live concerts. listen to nightfall in middle earth or imaginations from the other side for some more badass bard action. also, to get a feeling for their other styles, listen to the live performance of "and then there was silence" from the same tour as this version of mirror mirror "beyond the red spheres"
btw, the members of guardian are huge lord ot the rings nerds so their songs reflect that. fantasy power/speed metal and its been around for 35+ (!) years.

This song is on a concept album called nightfall in middle earth. Based on the silmarillion by Tolkien. If you get a chance check the whole album out and the story will connect.

A Past and Future Secret, Script for my Requiem, Valkyries, Mordred’s Song, Wheel of Time, and Battlefield are some good songs that not many new Blind Guardian fans usually hear and actually tell a different side of certain stories.

I have to disagree A LOT there... Bling Guardian is not Heavy Metal. Metallica was trash metal (early days) then became heavy metal (later days). I listen to NO real Heavy Metal at all, I hate that with a passion.

Yes, Blind Guardian are Power-/ Speed Metal. But that doesn't differ from classical Heavy Metal that much. Plus, both bands have those 80's influences in their DNA.

Blind Guardian were some of the earliest influencers of the power and speed metal genres.
BG could go on stage on a random Biergarten in Germany and they would still "work the crowd".

This is a song from their conceptual album Nightfall on Middle Earth.
The entire album tells the story of the War of the Silmarils, from Tolkien's book The Silmarillion, a sort of 6000- 10 thousand years old prequel to the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings books
Sad to see that almost nobody knows about the book. It's amazing. I was amazed when I first discovered Blind Guardian's album. My favorite song is still Blood Tears (Simply because I love Maedhros).

Live versions from the Imaginations through the looking glass dvd are usually superior to the other live versions imo
That concert was one of those magical nights like Nightwish's live at Wacken 2013 or Metallica's live at Seattle 1989
if I could time travel I would bring this song back to Phil Lynott - Thin Lizzy or I could picture Dropkick Murphys doing a great cover of this, a lot of celtic rffs going on there.

As a Fan of Blind Guardian I would tell you to also watch the Title Bard song. It shows in comparison wit Valhalla the spectrum Blind Guardian is able to do.
Also if you liked this, you should try the Band "Demons and wizards" It is a combination between "Blind Guardian" and "Iced Earth".
Try the songs "wicked Witch" and "touched by the crimson king" (the song even though the album is also quite great) to get a feel for this band. Sadly they don't play so often live,so you might have to watch a studio version.

well I would suggest the Epic "And then there was Silence" followed by Ayreon's "The Day that the World beraks down" with, Hansi, Simone and Floor!
Surprised there are no Iced Earth songs yet, or even Demons and Wizards which is Hansi Kursch from Blind Guardian and John Schaffer from Iced Earth's side project. Highly recommended if you are digging Blind Guardian. The Something Wicked trilogy or something like Dante's Inferno would be great to see.
Gotta love those live concerts. However, Hansi doesn't go to the heights he used to back in the day. This is a newer concert. Still lovely. But sounds like from a different time (which it is).
I always liked "Noldor" from them, or "Nightfall".
And I'm still heartily suggesting Skálmöld & Sinfóníuhljómsveit Íslands - Kvaðning !
He really stepped up with demons and wizards this year tho!

I dunno why no one recommends "I'm Alive" because the album version melts face and the live version somehow is even better. Their original drummer was a fucking legend.
As for Hansi? There's A live video that captures him actually doing a metal growl in a warmup and it was absolutely unbelievably brutal.
Blind guardian Banish from sancuary, the last candle, Imaginations from the other side, somewhere far beyond or the bard song ( or in the correct live version the audience song) all from the imaginations through looking glass show, yes the video quality isnt that great, but how they performed, the last show with their original drummer, a crowd eating out of Hansi Kusch his hands because it was a festival made for this dvd release, 1 of the most epic shows recorded in the early 2000s together with Iron Maiden Rock in Rio 2001 and a few other shows

I love the singer for Blind Guardian he has such a unique voice. Listen to the studio version of Bard's Song. The live version is cool but the crowd sings like 90% of it and it's kind of hard to understand some of the lyrics. You don't fully hear the actual song. Also react to Sacred Minds and Sacred World thanks!

A bit late here, but Dude, if this was your first time listening to German Metal, you are in for a Treat here buddy ;) Blind Guardian are only the tip of the Iceberg :D
Try Kreator, Sodom, Helloween, Megaherz or Tankard, you won´t regret it.
Next one : Blind Guardian - I'm Alive. Everyone tells you live versions are better for Blind Guardian, but in this one a lot of high pitch notes couldn't be done by Hansi (vocalist). Back in the days, he was able to do those. Understand also that they close their show with Mirror Mirror also, very hard to sustain all those notes, but that's why I always prefer reacters to listen to studio versions first, then the live ones : you can't fully enjoy the live ones before knowing the studio version IMO. Still, you're right about those guitars riffs : they're big Metallica fans, well at least back in those first albums era, and I think that all their solos are so well placed and not a single note too much or missing. You absolutely need more Blind Guardian in your life ;) Begin by the older stuff if you like that Metallica look alike riffs, because the newer era is more bombastic than thrash sounding. I suggested you I'm Alive (personnal favorite), but maybe you should maybe go with Majesty or Journey Through The Dark.
