Blind Guardian are around since ’84 and in my opinion should always listend live. Live they are the very best with their own choir.

Blind Guardian are legends! I really like their new stuff, you should check that out as well as the older songs. Another classic of them is "Mirror Mirror". Another beautiful ballad is "The lord of the Rings". Have fun jumping into this rabbit hole 😜

As others have already said, Blind Guardian are around since almost 40 years now ("Valhalla" is one of their oldest songs still on play, and more than 35 years old by now), and they changed their sound drastically by the end of the 90s. Best entry for beginners are all albums from the middle-phase (most notably Imaginations from the Other Side and Somewhere Far Beyond, with Nightfall in Middle Earth and Tales from the Twilight World following close). The early two albums are more thrashy speed metal style, the ones after get much more proggy. It's a matter of taste, honestly, but mid-phase Guardian are still the ones with the biggest melodic potential. For comparison you can click right into the pre-release videos for their upcoming album "The God Machine" (out in September). Four songs from the album have been released as videos so far, with "The Secret of the American Gods" being the most recommended to watch. They get closer to their older sound nowadays again but still so notably different from discovering them first in the early 90s. Rabbit hole all the way, of course ...

The thing that I noticed the most with BG is that the band doesn’t try to stop the crowd from clapping even though the tempo keeps changing on The Bard’s Song. Not many bands can play and not have that bother them.
Now, the band does have IEM’s so it’s possible the ambient mics aren’t turned up very loud, but the bleed over would still happen. I just think it’s great the band can roll with it.

Their new song 'Secrets of the American Gods', is great. Love the band, especially Hansi. Discovered him through his work with Ayreon, which is also worth checking. In the live Ayreon Universe concert, he sings with Marko (Nightwish). Together they are awesome.

Yes, you should definetly listen to more Blind Guardian! Annother classic is Mirror Mirror. For their "big" melodic stuff with orchestra you can listen to "Wheel of Time", "And than there was silence" or "Sacred Worlds". They also released recently 4 new songs from their upcomming Album "The God Machine" (release 2nd september). Their new songs are more "back to the roots": Thrash/Speed Metal with big layered refrains. The Videos are okay, but the songs are good.

So there’s a new album coming very soon I believe, there are currently 4 singles out with the latest one to have come out quite recently!
Also some more Blind Guardian suggestions (preferably live, imaginations through the looking glass is one of the best concerts):
    Mirror Mirror
    Bright eyes
    Nightfall
Time stands still at the Iron Hill
    Into the storm
    Tanelorn (into the void)
    Prophecies
    Lord of the rings
    And then there was silence
    The script for my requiem
    …to name a few

Look at the bright side of just now finding BG - You can binge listen to DECADES worth of music that you have never heard before!
Their catalog is so varied and these 2 songs are just a taste of that. They have already released 4 singles from their album that is coming out next month, and ALL of them are great - Close your eyes and pick one and you will not be disappointed. I could comment for an hour on song suggestions for older ones, so just dive in!

In my opinion every Metal fan, should see Blind Guardian, and listen to the bard song, it is a must-see, and you must feel the vibes of the live play and sing along to at least once in their lifetime - I will never forget my time in Gelsenkirchen Germany 2003 at the first Rock Hard festival played in the Amphitheater by the rhine - herne kanal ---- one of the greatest emotional moments - I had tears in my eyes - and goosebumps all over throughout the song --- never again will I see humans from all walks of life - become a unity --- and stream out so much positive energy ...

There is a myth, that whenever you go through the village of Wacken or the field where this festival takes place somewhen during the year, you still can hear the echoes of this Valhalla chorus.
And I personally recommend to start with their early albums (like the first four or five). Afterwards they started to put more focus on keyboard sound carpets and atmospheric sounds.
My personal favourite album is "Tales from a twilight world"

They say that when you pass by Wacken grounds on a quiet night, you can still hear them sing...
The newest single, Violent Shadows, is a throwback to their early sound, so you can jump right on. I sugest Mirror, Mirror, Time Stands Still (at the iron hill), And Then There Was Silence and The Ninth Wave first.
The huge crowd singalong is a bit of a power metal tradition, and there are a few bands that can give The Bards a run for their money. See Sabaton En Livstig i Krieg, Manowar Heart of Steel live in Lisbon, Helloween I Want Out at Wacken or Rhapsody Emerald Sword live in Montreal. Oh and Shaman Fairy Tale live in S. Paulo.
If you need a link for any of them, just say gimme!

Honestly you should start with anything else from Somewhere Far Beyond (which The Bard's Song is from). Their sound has changed dramatically over the years, leading to members of the band quitting because they didn't like what they were making themselves. Valhalla is even older than that, from a few albums before.
Anything from Somewhere far Beyond including the bonus cover track Spread Your Wings especially. As for other songs, for example Mirror Mirror, The Minstrel, Tommyknockers, and Bright Eyes.

For Wacken 2023: they just announced the first bands for next year and that it´ll be 4 days instead of 3. The first announced bands are:
Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Dropkick Murphys, Wardruna, Beartooth, Ensiferum, Pentagram, Jinjer, Nervosa, Deicide, Burning Witches and Two Steps From Hell. Tickets will be availbable from today at 8p.m. CET (Central Eurpean Time). Still debating myself if i should go.
But now i´m going back to bed for a bit more sleep since i just woke up after a great concert (Metfest 2022) and only had a few hours of sleep.

Awesome reaction. I always wonder that anyone knows bands like Priest or Maiden ... but don`t know Blind Guardian and Helloween (for example) ... their early albums are essential to the whole power metal scene. So pls more Guardian - and also some Helloween (especially the Pumpkins United live Videos are awesome) of their classics ..."Keeper of the Seven Keys" and/or "How Many Tears" for example.

Mr. Jaimunji, personally I like the older songs more and to be real nearly no one covers them in regards of content. Songs like Fly, Mirror Mirror, The Soulforged, Under the Ice, Nightfall, The Script for my Requiem, Tanelorn, Wheel of Time, Valkyries, Sacred Worlds, And than there was Silence, imaginations from the other side, Bright Eyes, A Past and Future Secret and more. They´ve been around for a long time. I recomend them dearly, if not for reaction than for privat listening. They however got a lot of content for sure. The new stuff is ok too. Kinda hard to judge thou for an older fan like me.
