I have been there and chased by Komodo Dragons. You know the ranger supposed to protect you? He run in front of us! I still remember the tongue of dragon with saliva smelling me from 2m. I watched a few other videos on them. It seems as long as you have a stick you can push them away (they only get up to 150lbs) and unless you are morbidly obese you should be able to outrun them. I bet you the people who died were not paying attention or were being stupid. It’s a similar situation with bear attacks. They’re rare and in 90%+ of cases, a handgungun or bear spray are sufficient to kill them or scare them off. There is a study of bear attacks that showed in almost all cases of a handgun being used on a bear, the human remained unscathed, even with suboptimal ammo like 9mm. The ones that got mauled failed to draw their gun or missed or just grazed the bear. Not that it stops people on the internet from spreading fanciful stories about bulletproof bear skulls or how you need a .50 cal to put one down.

O yea…I’ve seen the little ones running up a tree, the adults as you say do eat the small ones. They are docile, and usually keep to themselves, this video is a good step of being safe while visiting. The diving and food is also great if anyone wants to visit the Komodo park.

I have been there and chased by Komodo Dragons. You know the ranger supposed to protect you? He run in front of us! I still remember the tongue of dragon with saliva smelling me from 2m. We jumped in to the restrooms and closed the doors thankfully. Never trust the rangers there but it was still a good memory.

I watched a few other videos on them. It seems as long as you have a stick you can push them away (they only get up to 150lbs) and unless you are morbidly obese you should be able to outrun them.

It’s a similar situation with bear attacks. They’re rare and in 90%+ of cases, a handgungun or bear spray are sufficient to kill them or scare them off. There is a study of bear attacks that showed in almost all cases of a handgun being used on a bear, the human remained unscathed, even with suboptimal ammo like 9mm. The ones that got mauled failed to draw their gun or missed or just grazed the bear.
Not that it stops people on the internet from spreading fanciful stories about bulletproof bear skulls or how you need a .50 cal to put one down.
