His mistake was thinking he was somehow special. He wasn't. He was just another meal. As soon as we get cocky and full of ourselves, common sense departs from us.
He should have left. He would have known that they where hunting for hibernation. Even animals you would never think would eat or would not think could eat meat or engage in eating there own species or even children will and can depending on the situation. I think the real problem was he humanized them to much. Nature is amazing but a healthy respect and caution goes a long way. it is easy to try to understand things from a human intelligence way of thinking. Like you hear people say that this type of crow has the problem solving intelligence of a 5 year old human. But even though that can be true they do not get to the solution the same way. Its just a different intelligence. to me that is more interesting also. Like wow that animal did the same thing but the process and way it got to the solution came about in a different way. He probably would have been in a situation later where it is him or the bear with what he was doing. I remember after this happened he was recorded saying he knew they would probably kill him one day and he hopes nothing happened to the bear. I hope that dude found peace and atleast he turned his life around before the bitter end doing something that gave him purpose and a good reason to live and not escape in a bottle. His poor mother though.
I'm born in Alaska and lived here my entire life. We have one word to describe bear behavior. Unpredictable. We never get cocky about our relationship with wild animals unless we want to die.
Actually, bears can be pretty predictable, but if anyone thinks that's a reason to get close to them, then they'll be receiving a darwin award. What you really need to be worried about are Moose. They will kill you just because you looked at them, or even for the fun of it. I live in british Columbia btw
I believe that YOU and those you know never get cocky, but HE certainly did. He was (yet another) arrogant Liberal Conservationist who thought he was above it all; that a bear would never eat him because he was such a good guy. Delusions kill people, as they should. This is the process of natural selection at work. I'm sorry they died such horrible deaths, but the world is better off without both of them. They were weak links in the evolution of our species. Natural selection is ugly.
Because it's a funny story about a fool who decided he was going to be accepted by wild animals just because he wanted to be and ended up as bear shit.
No it wasnt horrific. It was stupid. What would drive a sane human being to think he would be somehow "friends" with wild Bears he didnt raise, especially in an area where they are especially territorical (at their food source) and especially desperate over food because of their Winter hibernation
I do understand a little, not to this extend. The interaction with wild animals in most cases shows that they are not mindless killers, but you can't literally sit on their plate when they are hungry and striving to survive. They can't go to the local store if they don't catch anything. What he did caused more harm then good to the bears because everybody will just hear that they mauled him and his girlfriend and not that they actually let him stay around them completely unharmed for 13 entire summers.
He had so many warnings by experts and rangers. They even banned him at one time. The thing he should be blamed for is putting his girl friend in mortal danger.

She had a chance to avoid him but ppl always ignore red flags. So again this grown woman made a choice.
From what I've read the bears that did Treadwell and his wife in weren't actually the local bears, but migrants passing through. These bears had no familiarity with either of them, and they looked like food to bears that had been traveling a while - and were very, very hungry. He'd been warned to ditch the area *because* they knew the migration and storage season for hibernation got wound up during that time. If the migrants didn't get them the local bears sooner or later would. Once those bears decided they'd make a great bit of trail mix, they had absolutely zero chance. The bears had to be killed, too. Once an animal like that learns that humans are edible, they will always start seeking us out as easy prey and in a park like that, that's an unacceptable risk. So Treadwell's stupidity not only killed himself and his wife, but the actual bears he claimed to love so much.
@@mikehewitt2146From Wikipedia: "The bears he had been used to during the summer had already gone into torpor, and bears that Treadwell did not know from other parts of the park were moving into the area. Some of the last footage taken by Treadwell, hours before his death, includes video of a bear diving into the river repeatedly for a piece of dead salmon. Treadwell mentioned in the footage that he did not feel entirely comfortable around that particular bear."
Pisses me off when someone thinks they can befriend a wild animal. Person gets killed by wild animal and wild animal gets shot because of someone's dumb decision. One of the many reasons why wild animals should be left ALONE.
The ignorance and hubris of this man was unbelievable. No bear spray, ignoring warnings, thinking he's somehow the bear's friends, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. Unreal. RIP to his girlfriend and the bears.

They were eaten in October. The hunger increases right before hibernation. It’s best to leave prior to that increase in hunger. I work as an RN. You're a dedicated nurse, Lisanet, I imagine those wounds would look like something a blindfolded butcher would make - you only have to look at the teeth, and esp those claws the literal size of human fingers, with a 600 lb Grizzle behind them!
My son lives in the woods in New Hampshire. They have a lot of wildlife on their property. I am always alert to bears and moose. Being killed by a wild animal is one of my biggest fears!
They weren't bears that he was "friends with. They were bears who were looking for food. He was camped right on a bear trail, with his camp site hidden so that the rangers couldn't see it and force him to move it. He wasn't simply a bear enthusiast. He was a nut case who pushed his luck around bears as far as he possibly could.
I read a documentary on this and the bears he hung out with were NOT grizzlies, they were brown bears, but he preferred to think they were grizzlies. There is conflicting info on grizzly vs brown. Which doesn't change the fact that either will eat you given the chance. The one that killed them had rotten teeth and was unable to hunt effectively, plus certainly in a bad mood from the massive toothaches. I read this over 10 years ago and don't remember the author, but they had listened to the audio. They said it did contain part of the attack on Amy, and that it concluded with her making the typical "distress call" that hunters mimic to attract predatory game, that of an animal in dire distress making repeated high-pitched shrieks until it is dead. Poor Amy, she was very in love with him and probably thought if he's been doing this for 13 years he must know what he's talking about. But there were several vague indicators that he wasn't quite playing with a full deck, although I haven't seen anything about what that was about.
That was entirely his fault, thinking the bears wouldn't kill him. They were literally invading the bears territory. The bear did not deserve to be killed. It saw Timothey and Annie as threats.
If someone wants to be careless with their own life, that's their business; but when someone is careless with the life of others, that's not just immoral; it's criminal.
For one person ignoring warning signs, not leaving the spot in October, not changing the tent spot every few days, camping right next to the salmon source, not having bear spray or gun on him, getting too close and personal with the bears is very unthoughtfull risky behavior, but for 2 people taking the same risk?! Why? Why she never questioned him? Why she never suggested at least a bear spray or to leave like everyone else?
She trusted him. I'm sure he claimed he was the bear whisperer and they wouldn't get hurt. Afterall, he'd gone many wilderness seasons without getting a scratch. Keep in mind, too, this happened in 2003. RUclips (and most certainly TikTok) didn't exist back then. Information wasn't as readily available. And this guy acted, I'm sure confidently, like he knew what he was doing.
I'll suggest a simpler reason. When you're in a couple, 2 people don't double up on the same area of expertise, and quickly assign themselves "roles" within a relationship. In fact, you even delete things in your memory that the other person is "supposed" to remember, for example, only one person remembers the way to a friend's house. So Aime's job might be cooking, making snacks, socialising, keeping inside of tent clean and organised. His job might be front of camera, doing more rugged camping set up, mapping out routes etc. ( only suggested roles).
I did some research. The bears he befriended didn’t kill him. It was an older 28 years old bear who was in his last days. It had wandered in the area after it couldn’t hunt much.
Yes, and he didn't know about it because he took his eye off the ball. What is overlooked is that he survived all those summers with the bears and the one where he brought a girl out they both died. He should have read the warning signs better and was inexperienced in how the bears would respond to a pack of (2) humans
And he cost some of those very bears their lives. They died because he acclimated them to humans so when they tried to approach others people shot them out of fear. This is why it’s hard for me to find sympathy for him his foolishness & arrogance ended up endangering what he claimed to be protecting.
Animals, like humans, are a mixed bunch. There's all sorts of them. Just google "Wojtek wikipedia", a human-friendly bear. So yeah, not all of them are the same. Just how some random human psycho will kill another human or other animal. What about all the dolphins being friendly around humans?
@@karawigley6231 You make the assumption that bears can't differentiate between specific humans? Or just don't care to. Bears come into contact with loads of different things in their day to day activities.

Because of his teachings and interviews I'm certain that curtailed a lot of bear hunts and saved bears lives. On the other hand 2 people and 2 bears were killed when things went wrong. I know Tim was a little nuts but he had a good heart and ment well. Rip Tim and Amy
Poor bears. They were just bears doing bear stuff, eating and preparing for winter. And got killed because they caught the wrong prey. And poor Amy, the girlfriend. She trusted the wrong man. So, 3 innocent victims because of 1 ego case.
Anyone that goes and lives among bears and doesn't bring a gun is insane. I've heard too many stories that bear spray can make the bears more angry. They definitely WILL kill you for sure!
Being “friends” with bears gets you to this point. He was warned over and over again. HE killed the bears. I feel sorry for them not him. He gets eaten and you know why? They are BEARS! He wants to “protect” them and yet they end up getting killed because of a fool.
There was zero reason to shoot them. They were in the middle of BEAR country. They knew how they were killed. You don't need stomach contents. I bet those bears are stuffed at a rangers house or lodge. FU*KERS.
Yes besides the two bears they shot and killed that day, the next year they had to put away another four or five bears that got too use to being close to humans.

It was without a doubt foolish of him to put his tent up in that area where different bears gathered, and in October to boot. That's a pretty sad story. Clearly, Timothy Treadwell was mentally unwell. Tragically, his delusion was not only his downfall, but that of his girlfriend as well.
I used to read his book "Among Grizzlies" before school and before bed and couldn't believe he thought he was so special that a wild animal wouldn't attack him. His book came out before he died and I wasn't surprised when he did die years later.
All already a red flag: "developed a special bond with a group of Alaskan grizzly bears" First off, its a wild animal, second who the hell thinks: "Oh ya this bear and I have never met before, lets make a bond."
I always find it funny when people think the world is all rosy and peaceful then find out the hard way. My late father's girlfriend once thought that she had a peaceful aura that animals could sense. She once visited a friend of my father with a very mean dog that she thought she could pet after being told not to go near the bad dog, but she insisted saying that she had a special connection with animals. The dog bit her so hard she needed stitches.
How was the dog the "bad" one in this situation? Dogs give very clear and obvious warnings when they want to be left alone. Idiot humans ignore those warnings. And the dogs get blamed.
One thing needs to be clear -- we dont see wolves or dogs in the circus. Dog is different -- aside from millenia of domestication, dogs/wolves are just simply smarter. They are smart enough to want to be with us as opposed to cooerced. All that dog needed was time and patience, a muzzle, lots and lots and lots of runs and walks. Unless you are Cesar Millan -- you dont have a "special connection" per se. Even Millan's gift is rooted in calm confident energy, its not a thing you can tell yourself you have -- animals tell you if you have it. The difference between bears and wolves (dogs)? Literally ten to fifteen thousand years of breeding and culling until the tame and friendly ones remain. If anything it is actually impressive with zero generations of domestication, bears will spend time with us at all. But in the end Dogs mad the first choice to be with us and thats why they remain. The only other two animals we spend time with in our homes traditionally are cats and horses and both of which we tamed. Dogs chose us because they are smarter.
I was in Katmai during July 1990 and as soon as we stepped off the floatplane, rangers gave us the strict rules....then told us there was a guy getting too close to the bears. That turned out to be Treadwell on his first visit to that park. He was lucky he lasted 13 seasons.
They weren't killed because they were being bears!! They were killed because they killed two humans, and thought they could kill one more...stupid animals...he was stupid as well not leaving those damn things alone.

She felt terrible to end the relationship, chose to do it on the trip. There is absolutely no secret recordings of this happening. Only one person has the audio and there was no video. The girlfriend,or ex girlfriend by that point is a hero. She never left Timothy and fought the bear by hitting it with a frying pan. She had numerous opportunities to run and Timothy is heard screaming for her to run away. She stayed right there till the end when the bear finally turned on her.
What secret recordings? Nobody mentioned any secret recordings. Audio is on internet so i would say more than one person has it and i don't remember her hitting bear with frying pan anyways it's not like you could outrun a bear anyways.
The actual audio has never been released on ANY platform. You may see many ones that claim to be the real recording, but I promise you, it is not available. It's a simple lesson in life that everyone should understand: If it sounds like a bad idea it probably is. This was always an epically bad idea and everyone knew it but him.

Dogs are domesticated animals. They've been transformed so through thousands of years of indoctrination and breeding. If an animal domesticated thousands of years before can sometimes act unpredictably, imagine an aggressive wild predator.
1995 I was assigned to Angoon, Ak on Admiralty Island. Angoon has a Senior Center that host guest speakers on Wednesday. This particular Wednesday Timothy Treadwell and Darrin Burrows were in attendance. You may remember Darrin Burrows from the tv program Northern Exposure set in Alaska. He played the character of Ed Chigliach, a young native man. After lunch Timothy asked to speak. He explained that he and Darrin were on the island because of the high Brown Bear population and hope to get some good footage of the bears. He went to great lengths to get it across to everyone how he is “ONE” with all bears and never would they harm him. After he left, Coney Star, one of the elders of the village. A man who usually had very few words to say, said, that is a man who is going to die one of these days. Actually 8 years later.
Nah, most visitors follow the park rangers advices religiously. bears have no reason to hurt you if you stay away from them and don't stay beyond the fattening season. Fatty juicy Salmons is what they want to eat. And they are so plentiful they only eat them partly, like a spoiled kid with his food that skips most of it and goes directly for the desert.
Yeah, Treadwell basically waste all his remaining luck during those final nights. He and his gf actually on their way home until argument about airplane ticket price make him angry, which make them decided to return to campsite. A very unfortunate decision
I was angry at Timothy Treadwell for a long time. His reckless behavior cost 2 Grizzly Bears their lives. It was complete arrogance/delusion on his part, believing that these Grizzlies required his protection. So so Sad for his girlfriend.😢
This actually shows that bears are incredibly "tolerant", but what is too much is too much. They are very far from some killing machine but they actually have to survive in the wild, it is not a reality show for them.
Living here in Alaska Villages for 20+ years, in order to survive in it's Wilderness, respect the Weather and it's Wildlife. I have been lost a few times out hunting (for my family's yearly food source, as the nearest food market is hundreds of miles away)in Bear Country, and I have learned to Fear and Respect both!
Timothy broke many of his own rules. A few days earlier they were scheduled to leave but there was a problem at the airport with their flight, something Timothy really blew up over and decided to go back out with his GF into the park. This was a rule broken. Once you get into later October, he always made it a point to leave before than as you would now see the older, more desperate hungry and aggressive bears trying to fatten themselves up before they slumber. He had never been in the park this late in the season. He documented all his feelings about the National park and how he saw himself as a hero against them and attached some wild conspiracy that the National park was out to harm the bears. Timothy treated bears as if they were wayward innocent children and his lack of respect for them as hungry predators led to his and his girlfriend's demise at the hands of them. But he probably did get closer to the bears than anyone ever has but his own poor judgement and choices put him in a position for the bears to do what comes naturally in late October., that is hunt and live, or starve and die and he put himself in their literal crossroads of where they migrate and hunt. Camped on probably the most dangerous strip of land for bears anyone ever has. RIP Timothy and Amy.
@Valnox92 Except anytime in October, you need to be gone from the back country. That is late in bear fattening season. So, anytime in October. The bear don't care if it was the 5th or 25th.. lol. For 13 years he abided by this rule and for a reason, this reason.
His pride killed him. Bears do what bears do. I saw that documentary right when it came out and thought Treadwell played a fool. Excellent documentary. Foolish, foolish man. He did it to himself with more than enough warnings.
@@Seeklip6T Well said. I mean he would sit there and baby talk to them as if they were willful toddlers. I give him credit for going around the bears he knew best, or tolerated the baby talk for as long as they did. But once it became fattening season in October and camping where he did that night? Put him away from the normal bears he saw at a crossroad of bears he didn't know. I'm not sure we'll ever see anyone so obsessed with bear to take this kind of approach and risk again. Many Park official warned im of the risks for years. He literally thought the park service was out to harm the bears. Blows my mind.
I wouldn’t blame this man for not knowing that the bear would get him because he thought they were so good friends but you should never forget life can any second anywhere
He may have meant well but it cost the lives of him, his girlfriend and the lives of those two bears - the very creatures he was out there trying to protect. It’s just very sad.
Can’t let wild animals get used to human presence. Here in Australia we have a cycle of people getting close to, taking selfies and feeding dingos (wild Australian dogs) which is banned. And then the dingo attacks someone (sometimes fatal) and then gets euthanised because it’s become a threat as it’s comfortable with human presence. Rules are there for good reason.
I made the mistake years ago of listening to the audio . Him being eaten alive and still whimpering and talking was the most bone chilling , heart breaking thing I have ever listened to .
He thought he was an expert but didn't really understand the bear's point of view. Bears don't care about some "special bond" with humans when they are hungry, they need to find food to survive. Even humans can become cannibals when they are hungry enough.
Again.........THE BEARS THAT KILLED THEM WERE NOT THE BEARS HE HAD BONDED WITH!! Not to say that it wouldn't have happened but the bears that he had bonded with didn't kill him.
He pushed those bears till they could not accept it. It's one thing encountering them by accident but quite another to set up home right in the middle of their territory.
some people say the bears that killed him where unfamilair bears just passing through the area, wel ya if you try to get close to new strangers you might get mauled. the bears he new didnt snap he just found new bears.
There was another "Bearman" of Alaska who met the same gruesome fate but in Kamchatka. He was a well known Japanese photographer called Michio Hishino who published an award-winning book of his photos of Alaskan bears and was also published in National Geographic. He became famous in Japan and had highly publicised exhibitions of his photos. He held the same beliefs as this fool but minus the arrogance. During the time he became well known I became well known as an award-winning whale photographer from a kayak in Southeast Alaska and I really wanted to meet him. It was on one of my long kayaking trips in 1996 that I was informed that he had been killed by a rogue bear in Kamchatka when he was with a film crew making a documentary about him. I was devastated by the news because I had felt an affinity with him through our intimate relationship with Alaskan wildlife; both foreigners, I'm British, who fell in love with Alaska. But I was dismayed when I heard the details because it was foolishness and pride that killed him, and the same sense as Treadwell's that he was a brother to the bears and untouchable. They knew there was a suspect bear in the area but he insisted on sleeping in his tent while the film crew found protection in an observation tower. They heard his screams at night and watched helplessly as the bear dragged him into the bushes and partially ate him. His death, like Treadwell's was so avoidable. I had a lot of close bear encounters when I was camping in Southeast Alaska but in that situation wirh the knowledge that there was a suspect bear in the area there's no way that I would have slept in my tent, and I have lived to write my long overue story of the Whaleman of Alaska.
If you think you have a bond with a wild animal you are wrong. There are some rare cases where they may pick you. But you never engage them. I would never. I respect Bears so much and I am terrified of them. I also think they are so beautiful. But I’ll admire them at a distance.
It is impossible to truly form a bond with a wild animal, because wild animals are just that. They are not domestic animals, and they WILL attack when their instincts tell them to.
Well it’s not my intent to desecrate the memory of a person like him but I guess his ego got the best of him. He was told by experts not to stay idle in a bear eating ground for so long and he thought in his ignorance that he was the bear man and just ended up getting chew like jerky by one of the bears…girlfriend included. Ignorance is deathly.
Actually, this was a different set of bears. The ones he hung around migrated or hibernated (can’t remember) and the ones that killed him (presumably) weren’t familiar to him.
@@meadahagain It's at least some consolation that it wasn't the bears he had built some kind of connection with that killed him, nor the ones that were then sadly killed.

Timothy Treadwell thought that he had a "special relationship" with the grizzly bears. Unfortunately nobody told the grizzly bears about their "special relationship" so they ate him and his girlfriend. He was a dope who worked as a waiter and went around schools telling children how cute and cuddly and friendly the grizzly bears were. Tragically, his girlfriend Amy, was terrified of the bears and he got her killed too through his stupidity.

"He developed a special bond with the bears" yet the bears he was "used to" were already in hibernation when he arrived bc he usually goes to the camp much earlier. There were new groups of bears that arrived in the area; one he stated he did not feel comfortable around. So much for a bear enthusiast.
Grizzly Man was one of my favorite docs. I've seen it many times. It is a window into Treadwell and his madness. So clearly uncomfortable in his own skin. He did capture some fantastic imagery!
Finland had a similar "bear man". He would feed brown bears, play with them. Also raised some orphan cubs. The bears attacked him and while he survived, the grounds for the bears turned out to be less than ideal.

Someone who decides to befriend a wild animal, in the wild animal's natural habitat, poses no danger to anyone. On the other hand, DOMESTIC DOGS, with OWNERS, kill thousands of people every year, worldwide. A big and powerful dog, for example, is pretty much a legal deadly weapon. So, too often, without realizing, our lives are in the hands of people who have such dogs.
@@HeathenDance someone who decides to befriend a wild animal such as a bear doesn’t have it all there in their head and therefore they are dangerous to the rest of us.
There was footage of him trying to pet a massive grizzly as it was bathing. It let him know immediately it didn't like to be touched. There's a similar story from Russia of a guy getting eaten by bears. They went through his camera and there was one bear of interest. Pics started off with it snarling because it didn't appreciate being followed and the final pic it was snarling with all of it's teeth visible which was the final warning.
Well that’s an issue I really have a problem with - these animals are wild and just do what they do , millions of years of instinct - same as if you go into the ocean with great whites or in a river where there’s crocodiles - you can’t blame the animal - yet there’s a revenge killing of the animal “ responsible “ - bloody arrogant and pointless - think of all the animals/ species humans wipe out He took the risk he paid the price should be end of story
I actually met Treadwell, first at Island Air Service in Kodiak where we were both waiting for flights out to our destinations, then I met him again at the Village bar in downtown Kodiak a month or two later. At Island Air, where we first met, we were chatting while we waited, I asked him what he was up to and he told me. I asked him what kind of firepower he was carrying and he got upset, angrily explaining that he was there to "protect the bears". I told him he was nuts and, practically spitting in my face, in so many words, he told me I was ignorant. I'm still pissed off that he got that girl killed. Now that I think about it, I'll make a toast to his memory, later tonight. To the finest pile of poop a bear ever made. Salud!
" I asked him what kind of firepower he was carrying ". I like that. We don't have animals like this in Australia, but I am aware of the damage they can cause and the risk to life they can present. So to me that's a very logical question.😁😉
His mistake was thinking he was somehow special. He wasn't. He was just another meal. As soon as we get cocky and full of ourselves, common sense departs from us.
He WAS special, bears love white meat....hahahahahahahahaha
Sort of like those people that have chimpanzees as pets.

I do understand a little, not to this extend. The interaction with wild animals in most cases shows that they are not mindless killers, but you can't literally sit on their plate when they are hungry and striving to survive. They can't go to the local store if they don't catch anything.

She trusted him. I'm sure he claimed he was the bear whisperer and they wouldn't get hurt. Afterall, he'd gone many wilderness seasons without getting a scratch. And this guy acted, I'm sure confidently, like he knew what he was doing.
becuase they are stupid pure facts...
Sad in so many ways .

We can only speculate if the bears that knew him would have attacked him or not, but the point is, we don't know. It was without a doubt foolish of him to put his tent up in that area where different bears gathered, and in October to boot. But, what I'm trying to get at is that people now criticize him for trying to interact with the bears to such a heavy degree, stating that this behaviour got him killed, which, like I said, isn't the case. He got killed by a wild animal he never met before, thats a fact. All other things are just speculation.
@@dieminervaeule doesn’t matter which wild bear ate him. He intentionally ignored warnings deliberately put himself(and another) in danger. Unfortunately bad things can happen regardless but especially when someone makes poor decisions
@@christineswick5977 I personally would never interact with a wild animal in the way he did, as I think it's foolish. But, he wanted to prove that one could form a bond with wild animals such as bears by getting the animals used to him. And this point he was trying to make actually was never disproven, since he was killed by a bear he never had met before. And yet now, people on the net are calling him a fool for doing what he did, when in reality, we don't really know if the bears that got used to him would have acted on their instincts the same way this passerby bears did. Thats the point I'm trying to make. You're right, accidents can always happen, especially if wild animals are involved. But we shouldn't judge someones life decisions as bad or wrong when we got no real evidence that they were factually wrong.

Lol emotional damage 😂 if she had her ego in check she wud have not been bit
😂😂😂😂😂
So hard😂
There is a clear difference between "domesticated" and "non domesticated" animals and people have forgotten that.........
I was in Katmai during July 1990 and as soon as we stepped off the floatplane, rangers gave us the strict rules....then told us there was a guy getting too close to the bears. That turned out to be Treadwell on his first visit to that park. He was lucky he lasted 13 seasons.

You don't really know that for sure though. Did you talk to the guy that has the recording? Maybe he let someone rip the footage.

Actually 8 years later.
that's probably why he thought he had the special bond. "knock on wood" could only last so long for him
Nah, most visitors follow the park rangers advices religiously. bears have no reason to hurt you if you stay away from them and don't stay beyond the fattening season.

That a man who himself admitted that he was not exactly right in the head survived 13 years out there is pretty amazing, though.
I was devastated by the news because I had felt an affinity with him through our intimate relationship with Alaskan wildlife; both foreigners, I'm British, who fell in love with Alaska.
