As a hunter who has been charged twice by wild boars. Stay in shape, learn some juke moves, make sure you have a tree to climb. I’ve walked up one in the dark and never even knew he was there. A lone boar doesn’t make a lot of noise unlike a group. Good luck.

As someone who had plenty of run ins with wild boars (I think more than 10 because I love hiking and foraging and see them a lot) if you pay attention you hear them very early. They are LOUD. They trample, rub on trees, they grunt, they dig. It's hard to not hear them. If you see them, staying silent and letting them pass worked for me most of the times. One time I was surprised by two of them. Heard a sudden Crack next to me in the woods while picking brambles. I saw them and immediately jumped into the thick thorns, there was no tree to climb. The thorns were about as tall as me and thick as a wall. And I got badly scratched up for no reason because boars were just as spooked by me and ran in the opposite direction.
Very rarely a boar charges at you. They often smell you before you see them.
They are defensive when they have babies. So be aware of their seasons and when you see a big group.. stay silent. Let them pass.

    • @Nokyyyyy

      Thanks for the infos !!
It's the most dangerous animal in Switzerland and I'd feel safer prepared than not walking in the woods

    • @geoffbreen2386
      @geoffbreen2386 Год назад +5

When I walk in the forest I carry a cane knife(like a machete). It is very thick and you cannot see far in any direction.
I listen for the grunts they make. They are never quiet.
If i hear them and they sound close by I hit the flat blade against a tree creating a ringing sound. A few strikes against the tree and I hear them moving away.
I've never been confronted by them, and realise the blade would not provide much protection if I was, but other than climbing a tree it would be difficult to hold my ground.
It seems the worst you can be is to trip and fall, being lower that the pig is incredibly dangerous.
I don't walk in that forest much, because I know they are there and I see the damage they do rooting through the undergrowth and disturbing everything.
Here in Australia they are a huge problem.
If you have a farm and want to control wild pig numbers research a product called "Hoggone"
Developed by joint Australian and USA scientists.
It's a baited pellet they eat from a "bait station" which only pigs can access.
It works by restricting the blood's ability to carry oxygen.
Basically the pig lays down, goes to sleep and dies. Usually within 1 hour of consumption and often within 100 metres of the bait station.
It is not a poison and pigs cannot develop immunity to it.
It is based around Potassium, I think, and leaves no toxins in the carcass as it decomposes. Not sure if the meat is safe to eat given the higher potassium as a result of consuming the baits which mixed with "peanut butter" they find irresistable.
I am not associated with this product.
It may not be cheap and is only available through licenced dealers of such products.
It's been on the market now at least 3 years.
What it can do is wipe out an entire sounder very quickly.
No need for ammunition to dispatch, no trapping involved. Very minimal work.
If a few neighbouring farmers were to use it at the same time they could effectively eliminate wild pigs from their immediate area.
Its something State and Federal Governments really need to look at seriously.
Bait stations and the product itself will always be cheaper than aerial shooting because of the costs of pilots and running costs.
      Hoggone is worth considering.

Turned a corner in the trail that opened up into a field and all of a sudden I’m 20 feet from him, and he wasn’t happy! We stared at each other for about 30 seconds, long enough for me to draw my 1911. He shook his head and headed straight for me. I put 2 230 grain hydra shots in his forehead and it stopped him. He didn’t die right away but went down. After I settled down and thought about it, I thought wow, 2 45 rounds to the head and didn’t kill it right away. Impressive…..

When living in Hawaii as a 12 year old over at Hana on the island of Maui. I was attacked by a wildboar. It was insanely huge. Easily over 300lbs. I just let it chase me uphill on a steep slope then gave it an *epic* boot to da head! Did it about several times until it came around the cliff side. As it came charging up at me from shallower side. I stepped aside and nailed em in the ribs. The wildboar broke its legs and its neck as it rolled downhill then off the cliff then into the water into Hana Bay. My family ate like kings for a week. Had enough for Pot Roast with potatoes. Pork adobo with boiled eggs & potatoes. Kalua pig sandwiches for school. Fried Sweet Bread and sour poi. A nice big pot of Dulan Duran (pigs blood stew with entrails) and watercress bone marrow soup. Don't worry, they're always very weak enemies! All you need is to use your level 3 staff and cast fireball on them and it usually kills them in 3 to 4 hits!

Boar’s boast a high physical defense and hit points, but this is easily overcome by magic, as their will saves and magical defenses are not their strong points. Easy kill.

While the boar is coming to attack you, if there is a strong wall or strong tree near, stand in front of it. When the boar reaches inches near just lift your leg so that its forehead will hit the tree or wall.

in my country(Iran)'s jungle(there are main roads inside them now) you can spot so many wild boars there especially in the afternoon. I was with my family and having lunch and then suddenly a hug pack of them came(about 20). and surprisingly they didn't attack us at all and they even scared of us like f. I was so scared there ngl but IDK, maybe bc they see so many humans they don't attack them? hmmm

Hunting the thickets of a swamp for years, I find that pigs want nothing to do with humans. In fact I have only had one encounter with a pig running to within a few yards of me and I think it was an accident as I was in very heavy cover. But my 18 inch barrel 12 guage put a slug through the head that came out through the rear leg.

Made by someone who have absolutely no experience in boar attacks or large pigs in general. "Hold your ground. Stay on your feet. Use sidesteps. Use any weapon you can. "
    That's a very stupid advice.
If you wound it it will be kill you long before bleeding out. You can't shaffle out like a boxer, it hooks with it's huge head to cut you up as it charges.
    1) light up a cigarette every now and then in bushy areas and wave it around. They smell the smoke from a mile and go the other way.
    2) if it charges drop you jacket to the head so you can jump away earlier. Until it shrugs it off you have a chance to hide behind a tree and stay still. They don't have a good site, if you don't move it will likely rejoin the pack and leave you.
    3) The only fighting chance you have if it's off from its feet. Easier said than done, probably with a tarp, thrown on it... its a narrow chance. Also the rest of the pack might attack too, which is bad news.

Gently pet the boar, and offer the boar a snack. If he doesn't roll over so you can do a tummy rub, reach down and ask the boar to role over. Make sure to offer a snack, or perhaps your dog.

1:35 Gotoge might have studied actual wildboars before doing character designs for Demon Slayers. there's one character named Inosuke who always wear boar head and indeed in a fight he does the same boar rush. particularly with boar's ability to kill a man and bossibly bite that person after. Also in the same comic series, Tanjiro explained how he could simply survive odds with simple headbutt because he got his unusually hard forehead through his mom and she did the same headbutt against a charging wildboar.

15 years ago i dreamed that a wild boar attacked me while was standing in a forest near some mud with light rain, i have never seen a boar before in my life, but in my dream it attacked me and bite me in my shoulder and grab me, then i woke up terrified, still remembering all the details as if it was yesterday , never knew boars are carnivor too, it was shocking to see in real life what i've seen in my dream, what it could mean , so weird . Now i should be careful in real and in my dreams .
