Wow....time to update the mapping software. I am impressed that you did make it across Eliot on the "old" route. I've done the Timberline about 15 times, about half of them prior to the 2006 washout. The trail was closed from then until 2016 when the reroute was completed, although plenty of people took the route you did during that closure.
I love the long form of your videos Kerry - really enjoyable to see you run in beautiful places and hear your thoughts as you do it. Thanks so much for sharing!!
finishing in ~15 hours is something to be proud of, especially given the biff on Eliot, sub-optimal hydration / nutrition, route finding and filming!. Well done, sir.
Mariln, I've got a number of other videos that I'll put out that follow this format instead of the race format. Glad you like them. It is super fun doing them.
I'm late to the party, but I think there's a T-shirt potential here. "I'm a pretty tough bastard" on the front. On the back, "If you haven't puked, you haven't run far enough" There's legit ultra/trail/endurance runner, and there's Kerry Ward Legit. You're an absolute machine buddy! Love the content. Thanks for taking us along.
Fantastic video, really enjoyed this one. Love when you take the time to present the gear you leave with and grateful that you film these adventures. To be honest, I can't imagine mustering the energy to get the camera out when feeling bad enough to throw up. You really are a pretty tough bastard :)
Re-living my run beginning July 2018, stream crossing where a bit more problematic but I remember lots of the views. Got lost a couple times as well. Thanks for posting this video, well done.
Kerry this video is amazing and really captures the full adventure of the trail! I saw this vid a few years ago and it gave me the idea to attempt the trail myself someday. And that finally came to be while visiting OR last week. Those water crossings are no joke!! There’s so much blowdown now - tons of time spent navigating over under around huge tangles of timber.
I enjoyed your video, learned new things. Thank you. I also appreciate you recording when you took the wrong turn due to the GPS. The GPS is a tool and can be handy but it really illustrated how we ignore the signs that a trail is ending or isn’t a trail. I know there are changes in the environment and it may be hard to decipher. But the surrounding area will give clues. Would trail makers make a trail on such a desolate steep rocky terrain? When you see landscape shift, it’s good to take note. I’d also say from going thru similar scenario, to not keep plunging ahead. It will get more grueling. Your likely to get lost or injured. It’s best to retrace and go back. It’s better to reverse your tracks. Turning back is always safer.
Kerry, man, you’re always killing it in these videos. I believe you are fearless. I don’t know that I could/would do a solo 50K+ in some of these areas without some self defense tools (bear spray etc). Your narration with these long form videos is enjoyable. I often wonder how spontaneous your solo treks are, this one doesn’t look like you did a crazy amount of prepping.
Hey Erik, I've been out on trips like this enough that I feel pretty comfortable with respect to knowing what to expect. This particular trip was pretty spontaneous. I'd done it before, so knew it was within my abilities. And glad the narration is tolerable LOL
Love your videos, humor and positive attitude! Been watching for several years. So glad you are making more videos. I watch them when I have to run on the treadmill, and I feel like I am there running with you! Thanks so much! Debbie
Great video! I really enjoy your content. I did this trail in one day in 2018 and that section you crossed was the old Eliot glacier washout I believe. You were crossing at the original trail location, but it was washed out over a decade ago. Your GPX track must have been the old trail route. The new reroute was just finished in 2017 (I believe?) and it crosses quite a bit lower on that creek, and adds about a mile to the trip as a whole along with at least 500' of elevation gain/loss.
Yes. The GPS track was pre 2017 for sure. I was spot on where the trail ONCE was. But clearly not anymore. I could see remnants of trail once I'd climbed the perilous embankment on the other side here and there. Clearly no one traveled on that part of the old trail. As I climbed I was 100% sure that this would not be something most people would feel comfortable doing. It was hairy.
I loved this! Kerry every time you upload an adventure video I'm all over it. I have a couple projects up here this spring and summer and watching your videos get me so hyped up!
Your vids are awesome..... must watch content during hernia recovery. You might like the Rae Lakes Loop in Kings Canyon Nat. Park east of Fresno, CA. Similar in length - maybe more ups and downs for Timberline. Love the Sky Pilot misadventure vid.
Hope your recover is going well. Happy to be able to provide some distraction for you. I looked at the Rae Lakes Loop - that is exactly the kind of trail I would look for to do a solid day effort. Perhaps later this year. I'll have to figure out if I can bypass the permitting by doing it as a day hike, which I find often works well in other places.
Great video as usual! Looks awesome there. Currently planning a route circa 50 miles for when things all Covid settle down as all the races have been cancelled!
Deja Vu at 10 minutes. :) What a great environment to be running/hiking. Thanx for sharing! Am surprised you use the phone for navigation, instead of the watch. Have great experience with the gpx on Garmin Fenix 6 Pro.
Aw man, I felt for you at the end, what with how tired you were getting. I get like that, and that's when I'm just walking up the stairs. :) thanks for the vid. :)
@@FullTiltWard that's awesome. I'm at the stage where I can walk about 30 miles in one day, but that's as far as I can get. Considering your ability to run ultras etc, and quite a lot, your one tough dude. I hope this virus situation doesn't stop you in your training and hope you have many more adventures to come. :)
Considering running the trail at the end of September. I am in ok running shape, frequently running 10ks every month. Do you have a recommendation for a training plan?
Fantastic footage quality...your weather looks like it was ideal. What time of year was it? (if you mentioned it in video, I missed it) ....and damn, I don't think Ive ever seen you puke in a video.
It is a guess at best. Where I opted to drink from a stream, there was VERY little vegetation above. In my view, this high alpine type of stream is unlikely to be contaminated by animals or pollution. I also look for a minimum of turgidity.

Perfect! These are the kind of adventures I prefer versus races. Just take off by yourself, run in a new place and see what happens 👍🏃♂️

Min 42:00 2012 Dollar Fire along w multiple other fires burned all those trees. Nice bushwhack into and out of the Eliot. Hard work
I love your vids! I watch them at the running shop when I’m stuck inside all day for inspiration!!!!!
OMG - loved watching this one - felt like I joined you on this one! That loop definitely goes on my bucket list!
You inspired me to run my first half marathon. Thanks
Congratulations! That is a great achievement.

LOL. I missed videoing the main 'purge'. Such a poor nutrition and hydration day. Not much choice but to continue onward.
Re-living my run beginning July 2018, stream crossing where a bit more problematic but I remember lots of the views. Got lost a couple times as well. Thanks for posting this video, well done.
It is a great trail isn't it. The crossings just keep things interesting.
Good one! Plan to do this in October so it was great to see the route. Thanks for posting!

There is a reroute around the blowdown using the PCT down to Ramona Falls.
Loving the videos Kerry! Great inspiration for these at-home training days!
You brighten my day!
Always looking forward to your videos

Been watching from my spin bike for years- been a great way to see some of the trails I hope to run someday- thank you! Keep it up!
Wow thank you for sharing it all.
You bet!
Great video, keep them coming
Wow! You basically made your own path up there above Elliott Creek, none of that looked familiar
No toothpick? I knew something looked off

Thanks Debbie. Planning to ramp up the releases of videos. So hopefully, you'll have some more entertainment/accompaniment for your treadmill runs.
Fantastic Kerry. Great going. Brilliant footage. 👍🏃🏻♂️
Awesome outing...will be putting it on the list 👍🏼
Have fun!

Great video. I am running this next week. Your positive attitude is awesome
Thanks Kerry,I’m currently in isolation with suspected Covid19 so your video reminded me that there’s a whole beautiful world out there
Dang, Steve. Recover well. Glad it was able to brighten your day a little bit.
That looks like a really fun loop! Sorry you had a rough time at the end of it. Thanks for sharing.
Doing this next week, this very was incredibly helpful in prepping!
Thank you! You can’t know how I appreciate your content. Best wishes and stay healthy!
Jurgen, it is great to hear that. You also stay healthy, friend.
thx for doing these Kerry. great vid.
Thanks for sharing this, fantastic scenery!👍

We all need projects to look forward to now. Glad you liked it.
Thanks for video! Was there last summer hiking pct southbound.

Another awesome video, Kerry! Happy trails! Hope to run into you at an ultra one day.
Another great video Kerry, thanks for putting it together and taking us along on your journeys.
Another great video 👍 ready for the pacing

47:00 fulltiltward meets primative technology? another great video, thanks.
Love the videos you put out..good job 👍🏽

Yeah, the end was a challenge. But it takes a whole day of invested suffering to get there. So might as well enjoy the experience for what it is.

Another great video. Keeping it real.
Great content Kerry. Thanks for uploading!
Thanks for sharing. It was a good distraction
Was wondering what kind of exercises you do besides running, to make you such a strong runner to be able to handle 200+ miles?
Awesome video Kerry... your solo footage skills rival those of Les Stroud
That is high praise indeed. Les is legend.
Totally enjoyable as ever. You're a good narrator Kerry. Do you carry any device for emergency communication on your long solos?
Considering running the trail at the end of September. I am in ok running shape, frequently running 10ks every month. Do you have a recommendation for a training plan?

How do you know when it's okay to drink the water on these long runs without filtering it?
It is a guess at best. Where I opted to drink from a stream, there was VERY little vegetation above. In my view, this high alpine type of stream is unlikely to be contaminated by animals or pollution. I also look for a minimum of turgidity.
Q; have you ever done the Chillkoot Pass I Dyrea Alaska to BC? On my Bucket list
Have not. But may have to look into it now, Marlin.
That is exactly the type of trail I LOVE to find. On my list now.
when did you do this- Early august?
It was August just before the Bigfoot 200
WHat year did you do this adventure?
This was 2019
Yikes those trees. You are filming an ecological disaster. Millions of years on the side of Mt Hood and within our lifetime wiped out.
