I found several videos on resetting the TIPM which this video doesn't mention. I dreaded for 6 months to do anything with the wiring or TIPM. So I kept using the high beams for awhile. Then one day my engine light came on. Bought an OBDII diagnostic interface to see what the issue was. Turns out that there were two codes. One referred to the lamp that wasn't working that the TIPM said had received too much amperage so it was shut off. The OBDII app asked to reset it, I selected yes, turned on the lights and it was FIXED! NO WIRING CHANGES! NO TIPM RESET! The other issue which actually turned on the engine light was an indication of low transmission fluid. Another easy fix. I find it interesting that no one in the comments nor the video mentions anything about using a car diagnostic scanner (OBDII interface) to correct the TIPM. Did I get lucky or is this something that very few people know about the Dodge Ram?

Ross Rytting yes sir you are correct. That is the joy of wiring diagrams. I will go 50/50 that the info is correct even if you use the factory diagrams. Sometimes wire color or PIN number is wrong. Glad it worked. Thanks for the info. I just seen this truck yesterday and all lights are still working.

I'm having the same issue in my 4500 but I have read that jumping them only lasts so long, I'm at the point where I might just cut them both and run them to a toggle switch and be done with it that way they TIPM isn't killing both headlights when the signal is engaged
@@NuclearRoll Jumping the wire makes sense to me. I have no knowledge of the computer so I don't know what happened. I know the lamps themselves are in working order. I re-checked the splice and still have no low beam at all. Using duck tape on the headlamp so as to not blind others. If I had $700 for a new computer I would use it for another truck. Not saying my Dodge is bad, just being practical.
FYI I solved my passenger low beam out and lamp out indicator today. Turns out it was apparently a bad contact between the TIPM box and the silver sardine can looking thing that plugs onto the side of it. I posted a short video.
SAME issue on my 01' Dakota. Chasing the low beam p/w wire everywhere looking for a short. Ultimately hoping wasn't the driver module, but most likely is.. I was thinking of doing the same splice.. but just wanted to poke around online to see if anyone done it first. Also going to toss in LED bulbs which draw less watts then halogen.. so that might even help the one CTM driver out since it would be powering both lights. Anyway thanks!
Good video. I actually did this about a year and a half ago, and it bought me about a year. I ran the wire from one light to the other rather than connecting them at the TIPM. A few months ago, my low beams went out completely on both sides, though. Maybe it was too much for the TIPM to handle one side powering both lights? Who knows? It was still a good solution. It got me an inspection sticker for the year. Hopefully your buddy's will last a little longer. Anyway, the solution I'm working on now is using the fog lamps to power the low beams.
Is your Ram headlight still working after splicing it in? I have this issue too but am afraid to lose my lights altogether if it doesn't work long term.
I wonder if this is why I can’t figure out why my sunroof switch isn’t getting power to it? I checked the fuses and they are good. No power at the pigtail going to the sunroof switch
Rather than double the load on the remaining low beam circuit of the TIPM it might be better to use the remaining good circuit to control a relay that feeds both low beams. Also you don't mention if you have a "lamp out" light on your dash. I do, and have done the splice repair and got both low beams back but the "lamp out" light still shows. I suspect running hotter bulbs over stock such as Silverstar Ultras, as I have, overloaded the circuit on the TIPM and burnt it. All these expensive and unececesary computers in cars nowadays make me want to buy an older car I fix anything myself.
MrTdw1954 No "lamp out" light was on dash and this truck was running stock bulbs. Running a relay is a great idea. For this truck it really wasn't worth it, this truck is pretty beat up. I actually just talked to the owner tonight and the headlamps are still going strong. But yeah a relay would be awesome insurance especially when running "hot" aftermarket lights. Thanks for the comment.
I have an 06 hemi and just lost my driver low beam but have also recently lost the driver high beam. the high beam went intermittently though, so I thought maybe switch... already had the tipm scare with the transfer case actuator, but lucked out.
Jared Granberry hey Jared make sure you verify no power at the bulb and ohm test the wire from the bulb to the TIPM. Left low is white with a dark blue trace pin one at the bulb and pin four in the c5 connector at the TIPM. Left high is white with a light green trace pin 3 at the bulb and pin four of the c7 connector of the TIPM
Yep, easy fix. My wires were so faded at the box I just ran a piece of 16ga wire from one end to the other using T-tap wire connectors. Easy peesey, lemon sqeezie.
After a shop installed a new transmission (remanufactured most likely) couple days later radio suddenly blared badly distorted when door open. Lost f/r right sound, dome light, driver dash cigar. Randomly does it again weeks later lost left rear sound. Kenwood DDX9703S shop install. Left low beam goes out turning the key back to aux last night. TIPM root of all?
I have same problems I just changed socket and it didn’t fix problem so I might just have to do what your showing. I’m just alittle afraid I don’t really work on cars all that much.
Johnny Protalk if your unsure I would not attempt this repair. If you tap into the wrong wire, you could cause some serious damage. This repair does require wire diagram and soldering knowledge. I would seek out a trust worthy mechanic or buddy that can help. Be safe and good luck!
Romans 12 maybe your right, lol I’m a hvac tech and have knowledge of electricity and went a aviation high school which we learned electrical solder but I haven’t dont in years so I’m weary. I’ll see what my mechanic can do
Johnny Protalk if you have a mechanic you trust, I would hit him up and explain that you just need to use the good driver coming out of the TIPM either the left or the right and use that one good driver to power both sides. It’s really not complicated and if you are in the HVAC field you can probably do it, if it comes to that but just be sure you double check your wires to make sure your taping into the correct ones. Soldering is easy especially if you have done it previously and with a little time you can find a wiring diagram online. If it comes down to you doing it, send me a message and I will help you with the wiring diagram
I understand your vidéo but me on 06 5.7lt Ram 1500 only the high beam work both Side and the low and day light don't work ...so your lucky one side low beam work for toi but mine don't work both side...did you have a solution thank's
My truck already had the jumper going from the driver side light over to the passenger side light when I bought it. I added LEDs to it and lost low beam. How can I fix that? I have checked all connections on the Tipm, look for any broken wires, check the voltage in the plugs. All wires are showing 12 volt to 14 volt when running. I also don't have brake lights, only the third brake light works. 😭
Thanks for the video...wondering if this is my issue. 2006 model w/ passenger side low beam inoperative. Checked power at the bulb connector on the good side...with low beams on, I get 11.98v on low beam wire and 10.4v on high beam. When I switch the high beams on, it reverses and there's 10.4v at the low beam wire and 11.98v at the high beam. When I check the passenger side, I'm getting 10.4v on the low beam regardless if the headlights are in the low or high beam position...so it's still getting power, just not enough to power the bulb. Will the jumper trick still work on mine, or is it possibly another issue?
I have 07 ram2500, bought switch, fog lights and wires to plug into factory prewired setup. Easy peasy but no fog lights? It does have drl when put into gear/drive. Any ideas come to mind. No other issues
I think you may have to use the DRB (that’s the factory scan tool) or other newer scan tool like a snap on to tell the TIPM to turn on the fog lights. I will look into that
Hi great video both of my low beams are out I’m tried jumping the wires still not getting anything Is the the tan and white and blue and white in the same cluster of wire?
Second, yes you will have multiple wires with the same color. It is important to ohm test your wires from the TIPM to the headlights to make sure you are on the correct wires. Good luck!
Connie Smith really glad it worked. My video was poor in many ways but the fix is good. I recently had the truck and the headlights are still working. Thanks for the comment.
What if the low beam doesn't work on the right side but the high beams work. The right side was working before then doesn't work any longer. How would I be able to fix the problem
My wifes 2010 Town and Country has a dead left low beam. The socket measures only 4.8 volts with a meter. Could it be the headlight relay just behind the radiator?
Steven Ruisi if your van is a 3.8l, I believe the relay behind the radiator is the external cooling fan relay. It looks like the low beam driver come out of the TIPM. The left is the white with dark blue tracer and the right side is a white with grey tracer. I would make sure your left side driver is not open or shorted to power or ground from your headlight to your TIPM. If it is good jump it over to your right side driver.
Could have just took the positive and negative wire off battery held them together with zip ties for about fitee. Minutes to complete reset the tipm relays. If it still doesn't work after than then do this. But this is guaranteed tipm replacement later down the road as the passenger driver WILL go bad with the extra load. Usually within six months.
OK so I’ve had this problem with my truck I only had one low beam on the driver side high beams work I jumped it from one socket to the other worked for two days and then all my lights went out except for my fog lights I just took my whole PCM off took it apart cleaned it put it back in and now I have high beams with no power going to my low beam socket. It’s a 04 ram 1500 any ideas would be greatly appreciated
Friend of mine has a 04 caravan with no high beems i hear no relay and i found a blue plug behind the light with 2 green wires that are carroaded do u know what ths plug is for
I did this on my truck and it worked but when I turn the car on none of the low beams work only the high beams. I am running LED bulbs would that be why they don't work, since there's too much voltage off one driver ??
M Bravo usually LED’s don’t run higher voltage but it’s the lower resistance that mess with the drivers. You said it worked? Did it work for a bit then stop? My second question is, are you sure you are on the correct wires? Third question is, are both low drivers bad?
yea they worked while the car was off but didn't when it was on but I think it was the LEDs cause I put in Halogen bulbs and everything works fine now. looked more into it might need resistors to run the LEDs
Hi just wanted to ask i have a 2017 ram rebbel 1500 i had one headlight go out about 2 weeks after o got the truck then few weeks later 2nd headlight gonre then i started driving with my high beams then one high beam went out then 2nd few weeks later now i am driving with the lil fog lights at the bottom. Any suggestions, i already took tipm out and did hard reset no luck.please let me know going nuts, went back to dealer they were no help.
kimberly touhey. That sounds like a bulb issue. I have had no issue with the new TIPM's, especially on the rebel. Does your truck have any aftermarket lights, bulbs or ballasts?
Can someone please make a video like this for 2016 4th gen ram !! I hate that RAM has this issue it’s cost me a lot of money buying hid ballast and bulbs before finding out it’s the truck killing them not faulty products
I have a 07 Cummins and my passenger headlight has no power at all. My driver side only works on high beam. Does this sound like a TIPM problem? I’ve currently have both batteries cables disconnected and zipped tied to each other to see if it will reset the TIPM. I’ve read and done research and people say it works. We shall see. Anything you could recommend trying? Thanks
I have the same thing did u fix ur problem. Because I can't seem to have lights even on driver side.. only one high beam works on passinger...plz let me know how to fix this
lee Kennedy thanks bro! This truck does not have a FCM, everything comes out of the TIPM. The FCM can throw you off if your not careful and I gone many rounds diagnosing the FCM on other trucks.
lee Kennedy 2005 was technically the last year for Front control modules but there was probably some early build 2006’s that had them. This truck was a late build 06’. Yes beware of the FCM if you have one, it can throw you for a loop
will this work with my problem I have the same truck a 06 ram my driver side head light only come on when its on high beam when its on normal/low beam it does not work but the other head light on my driver side does work on low and high beam I'm so confuse i know its weird right??? any help guys and gals will go along way thank you in advance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Seems as though this is common on Chrysler/dodge vehicles...I pulled my fcm off the ipm and sanded/slightly twisted the flat prongs as I heard its typically the fcm that causes this...that didnt work so I checked the voltage at the bulb where the low beam didnt work...nada.so whats left is a wiring issue/ipm issue. At least now I know push come to shove I can jumper it like this.thanks man,btw how long did this hold up?
Duane Dove thanks. I just had this truck for a radiator and oil change and it's still going strong. Worst case scenario would be the TIPM would for sure need replacing but so far no problems and it's been over a year maybe two
Dev4stating x Over two years and still going strong. No issues at all. I saw the truck Monday evening, he was dropping of his van for me to look at and all lights were working. And he drives this truck all the time plus he has two teenage drivers. Good luck!
Curious if your headlights are still working by jumping one wire to the other. My experience on my dodge is that it worked for about a year, then both low beams went out. Replaced Tipm. Got another year of working lights, now the issue is back. I been told that for permanent fix, run the wires through a relay. Just fyi.
The TIPM has one driver for each low beam. I just ran both drivers off my one good driver. So yes. You could use a relay but mine has been fine so far.
I believe it would, I haven't tried a high beam and I wouldn't be scared to try. Worst case would be a fried TIPM but if one or more drivers are bad, the TIPM is already shot. For your 8.3L the High drivers are...White/Light green for the left and White/Grey for the right. Good luck..
Looks like a good solution. Also experiencing power on low beam one side only. Same with high beam one side only but opposite side. Third issue, only right rear turn signal operates. No front signals whatsoever? Would it be okay to jump these drivers as well? Thanks!
S. Bloom so you have one low beam on one side and one high beam on the other side only working plus some rear light issues? What year and engine do you have?
I just bought a 2007 ram 2500, lowbeams do not work at all, i changed the bulbs and that did not work. The connectors have been replaced also but the highbeams work fine. is there a way to quick fix this without replacing the TIPM.
SledNeck117 it doesn't sound like it. I would still test for power and ground and make sure all fuses good but if both drivers are down you may be looking at replacing the TIPM.
My right headlight is having a problem and it also interfere with my left brake lights and my fog lamps and turning signals. The passenger side headlight which is failing is a double filament and the high beam is not working. Would that cause my problem ?
I did this and went as far as adding a 3a in line glass fuse for added protection and soldered the connections in. it worked at first but after letting it sit overnight I go to start my truck the next day and all of my electronics were dead. I know I had the right wires I double checked the drivers at the bulb. I have a 2007 ram 1500. really frustrated, now I need a new tipm
Ethan Brule that's really odd, the TIPM has separate drivers that run straight to the lamps, . I will look over some wiring diagrams. Try disconnecting power to the TIPM for a hard reset.
levi southern hey sorry for the late response but yes it looks like your truck doesn't have a front control module and wires are the same: white with a dark blue trace for the left low and white with a tan trace for the right low. Verify your bulbs are good and you have no power to one or both sides with a meter.
Romans 12 thanks for getting back to me. my passenger side is fine, bug as weird as this may sound when the bulb is out of the socket on the driver side it has power, but when i put the bulb back in it loses power. i think im going to try this and hopefully it will work.
levi southern that is weird. I would verify my wire is good but it sounds like when the load is applied to the circuit the driver can't handle the load Keep me posted on the outcome. This truck is still going strong running two headlights off one driver.

I re-checked the splice and still have no low beam at all. Using duck tape on the headlamp so as to not blind others. If I had $700 for a new computer I would use it for another truck. Not saying my Dodge is bad, just being practical.
It worked great. 3/20/24. Thank you
So can I just splice a small wire under the box instead of running across the truck?
same issue thank you! Got it narrowed down to the TPIM last night then found this. very helpful thanks man!
FYI I solved my passenger low beam out and lamp out indicator today. Turns out it was apparently a bad contact between the TIPM box and the silver sardine can looking thing that plugs onto the side of it. I posted a short video.
I got the same thing it's just the contact
Where is the video?
I did this to my 07 about 4 years ago and it is still working.
I have high beams but no low beams, I am hoping it's the bulbs then I saw this, thanks so much.
Mark Rankin if by chance both low beam drivers are open....your out of luck. I would definitely check both bulbs and sockets.
@@romans1295 Thanks for getting back to me so fast, onward through the fog.
Nice, I was wondering if it would work the same, probably should. Let me know how that works! Thanks for the feedback!
Did that work with the fog lights? If so how long did it last? I need to do my 16 ram 😔
This is brilliant. Worked great & only took 15 minutes. Thank you!!!
SO Swing glad it helped. Thanks for the input.
SO Swing glad it helped. Thanks for the input.
Is your Ram headlight still working after splicing it in? I have this issue too but am afraid to lose my lights altogether if it doesn't work long term.
@@romans1295 Is your buddy's truck light still working?
I wonder if this is why I can’t figure out why my sunroof switch isn’t getting power to it? I checked the fuses and they are good. No power at the pigtail going to the sunroof switch
Ingenious. Good fix. My neighbor is having this very issue.
@@romans1295 where do you get the relay?
You just saved me $800, ty.
Hey I really appreciate it... It' worked... God bless you😎
I have an 06 hemi and just lost my driver low beam but have also recently lost the driver high beam. the high beam went intermittently though, so I thought maybe switch... already had the tipm scare with the transfer case actuator, but lucked out.
Hello, where can people get the diagrams from? I have a 2007 dodge ram 1500 5.7 doing that same stuff. Appreciate ya!
I understand your vidéo but me on 06 5.7lt Ram 1500 only the high beam work both Side and the low and day light don't work ...so your lucky one side low beam work for toi but mine don't work both side...did you have a solution thank's
What do I have to do to fix my truck my driver side works I don't have low beam
What if both left and right drivers are out ?
Did you have any voltage to the bad headlight?
How's the fix going? Has it lasted since this video?
What if you don't have any low beam?
What is the high beam wire and colors only one side works for high beam and the other side works for low beam on my 07 ram 1500
I will look into that
Hi great video both of my low beams are out I’m tried jumping the wires still not getting anything
Is the the tan and white and blue and white in the same cluster of wire?
Hello! First, If both low beams are out, it’s possible your TIPM or fuse box may have failed and both headlight drivers are bad.
Second, yes you will have multiple wires with the same color. It is important to ohm test your wires from the TIPM to the headlights to make sure you are on the correct wires. Good luck!
Worked just m me you said it would. Great advice. Thanks
Connie Smith really glad it worked. My video was poor in many ways but the fix is good. I recently had the truck and the headlights are still working. Thanks for the comment.
I got almost a year out of it now it doesn't work.
I'm currently having the same issue. How long did this fix work?
My dad’s ‘04 driver went out periodically then finally just quit, then a week later the passenger followed. Guess I’m going with the new TIPM
Why not just change it to a fuse with nothing on it and put the headlights and switch in a fuze?
It’s a 04 ram 1500 any ideas would be greatly appreciated
so all he did was get power from the driver side?
2006 Jeep liberty sport can't seem to find color wires scheme to tap into great video!!;
Stay Fresh hold tight and I will try and get the diagram
Same trouble wit my 04 ram 1500 I been using my high beams for like 5 yrs now instead had no issues at all wit cops or anything
You're a dick
@@gdawgutizzel420 Yes, probably he is a mexican, he dont care about other drivers, he is a f....g i...t,
Friend of mine has a 04 caravan with no high beems i hear no relay and i found a blue plug behind the light with 2 green wires that are carroaded do u know what ths plug is for
danoh's toolbox could be a jumper.?. I definitely would deal with corrosion first.
With all these problems why don’t they do a recall
Thanks for your wicked easy video
Trying to see if goin to the junk yard would I find it and if so from what year to year do I look for???
Luis Ceja it would be difficult to find. You would have to find the same year truck with all the same options. It will be tough. Good luck
Because I can't seem to have lights even on driver side.. only one high beam works on passinger...plz let me know how to fix this
Stephen Smith you have a tough one. It sounds like a front control module but you would need to do some more testing to pinpoint.
Romans 12 I pretty much did the same thing you did except I just put a little piece of wire in plug to jump them instead of splicing the wires
The problem is actually the fcm (little silver box) vs the whole fuse box.....still an expensive piece as well
lee Kennedy thanks bro!
I have same side as you but brights on both sides works . Is this issue for low beams? Which is my issue on the driver side.
Keith Walker i have the same problem
Why does my lights on the low side blink when I first turn them on but won't stay on only hi side will keep them on
Seems as though this is common on Chrysler/dodge vehicles...I pulled my fcm off the ipm and sanded/slightly twisted the flat prongs as I heard its typically the fcm that causes this...that didnt work so I checked the voltage at the bulb where the low beam didnt work...nada.so whats left is a wiring issue/ipm issue.
At least now I know push come to shove I can jumper it like this.thanks man,btw how long did this hold up?
Craig Shelhammer thanks for the comment. This truck has no FCM and is still running both low beams off one driver almost two years later. Good luck!
Romans 12 thats great news..I think tomorrow thats what ill do!thanks for replying so quick.
Craig Shelhammer no prob and if you need any wiring diagram info let me know
Will do,thanks man!
Do not use one wire to run both head lights if it can't handle one head light now you'll be pulling double power through one side it won't last long !
Duane Dove thanks. I just had this truck for a radiator and oil change and it's still going strong. Worst case scenario would be the TIPM would for sure need replacing but so far no problems and it's been over a year maybe two
I have an 06 ram and my right side light doesn't work. I may do this? How has it worked out for you since you did this?
Dev4stating x Over two years and still going strong. No issues at all. I saw the truck Monday evening, he was dropping of his van for me to look at and all lights were working. And he drives this truck all the time plus he has two teenage drivers. Good luck!
@@romans1295 awesone man. Thank you. Damn chrysler products
Curious if your headlights are still working by jumping one wire to the other. My experience on my dodge is that it worked for about a year, then both low beams went out. Replaced Tipm. Got another year of working lights, now the issue is back. I been told that for permanent fix, run the wires through a relay. Just fyi.
@@wesbishop5518 hey man. I sold it and bought a tundra lol
This is exactly the issue I have on my 03 rAm 2500 Cummins
I have 12v to the low and high beam wire on the right passenger but no low beam light..any ideas? if the tipm / pcm is bad then why would i get power?
Fred Young if you have 12v on the low and high wires, you either have no ground or a bad bulb. Double check your powers and ground.
So you put one to the other wire?
The TIPM has one driver for each low beam. I just ran both drivers off my one good driver. So yes. You could use a relay but mine has been fine so far.
What about a scotch lock ?
Thank you for video worked on my viper truck and was wondering if it works for the highbeams too
I believe it would, I haven't tried a high beam and I wouldn't be scared to try.
S. Bloom sorry, you also have no front signals?
Romans 12 Right rear blinker works but no others front or back.
Romans 12 Thanks for your help. This is a 2005 Ram 2500 4X4 with a 5.7 engine. From what I'm reading looks like a faulty TIPM circuit failure.
I did this before i knew about tipm. I seen a repair to wire the burned out trace line. my problem now is everything else is starting to fail
infowarrior420 bummer dude. The TIPM's are junk. Good luck
What type. Of wire should one used to run it. I have the same problem.
Lisardo huerta I would use a 16 gage wire, whatever color you can get at the parts store
Try disconnecting power to the TIPM for a hard reset.
i have an 07 2500 with the 5.7 in it & am having the same problems. will this still work for me? also how long did it stay working?
levi southern hey sorry for the late response but yes it looks like your truck doesn't have a front control module and wires are the same: white with a dark blue trace for the left low and white with a tan trace for the right low.
I would verify my wire is good but it sounds like when the load is applied to the circuit the driver can't handle the load
Keep me posted on the outcome. This truck is still going strong running two headlights off one driver.
Romans 12 will do. and yeah its definitely weird. im just now getting around to fixing it though. its been like this for a good while. i stopped driving it at night after i got pulled over haha. its a pain. i will keep you posted tho. thanks for the replies
I had to do this in 2017, but my problem was a little bit worse. I had to swap my lows to my highs, so it says I'm always running high beams.
Thanks man this was super helpful
Thanks for the great video, and explanation
