The food was totally real. The captain wanted to have the pleasure of seeing someone else enjoy the food as the whole crew can't taste or feel anything.
35:20. I love this line. Because it would be an incredibly sailor/piratey thing to say because of maps back then. Often on maps you'll see the (mythical) sea screatures reported to be in these waters. The actual phrase "here be dragons" refers to this practice of either placing these purported creatures where they are said to be from or by placing/bordering the known/uncharted lands/waters with pictures of dragons. Basically the medieval equivilent of caution/warning/unknown dangers ahead signage.
I once saw a comment that referred to Commodore Norrington as a Jane Austen hero stuck in the wrong story and I've never been able to watch these movies without constantly thinking about it since.
He's such an interesting and nuanced character when contrasted with the caricatures and plot serving hollow shells he has to contend with. Jack and Barbossa are larger than life while Elizabeth and Will give great performances but have no real character to speak of. They're scheming and conniving pirates when it suits the plot, goofy clowns when it suits the plot, loyal and good upstanding citizens when it suits the plot. Norrington on the other hand demonstrates real, consistent, and genuinely moving character growth. It speaks volumes that, to me, the intended emotional moment of Will's line: "It's right here: between you and Jack" feels corny and unearned compared to Norrington's "I think we can afford to give him one day's head start." Even in the midst of his heartbreak and essentially being made the fool of to add insult to injury, he still has grown enough to see the right thing to do here and doesn't abuse his station to act out of anger or to get revenge. I believe these movies, especially the first, would be, pardon the phrasing, completely lost at sea without his grounding presence, and the contrast makes Jack's slapstick buffoonery all the more enjoyable.

And intuitively we all know this. The fact that you have not done so indicates you cannot.
@@4tr0phy First of all, understand that I owe you no explanation. If someone said 1+1=3, would I need to show them the mathematical proof, now would I? I’m only seeing this message now and I have time on my hands so be grateful I’m granting you this much. Norrington is indeed an interesting and nuanced character. But to say that’s a contrast from the other characters? Now THAT is a misunderstanding of the series, clear as the sky on a midsummer’s day. To say Jack and Barbossa are just “larger than life”?! That Elizabeth and Will have no character to speak of? Jesus Christ, this is so absurd I’m actually laughing! Jesus! I mean… I’m not sure you watched the movies…. Actually though, did you? I mean… everything you said came only from the first movie… so I will mainly write about the first movie, as I’m nearly sure it’s the only one you’ve seen. Let’s start off with Elizabeth. She has one of the greatest arcs in history. She starts of as a grounded, posh, proud aristocrat confident in the power and justice of law. However, from the get-go we see a side of her that wishes to be more, to be adventurous, to seek the freedom Jack talks about. When Elizabeth finds herself among everything that was the opposite of her (supernatural, grimy, shameless pirates) she is momentarily confused but over the progression of the first movie she embraces her wilder side, even fighting. That is an incredible development. Now, as you haven’t seen the other movies, spoiler warning. In the other movies, Elizabeth is motivated by love. That love breaks her boundaries. She threatens Beckett (who is the opposite of her) with a gun, becomes a runaway, fights in bars, seduces and kills Jack. All for love. So she has that constant that is driving her, but it’s driving her further away from point A and into point B. In the third movie, she is still motivated by love but she feels guilt for what she’s done. She sails to save Jack, returns, and becomes King of the Pirates. In the end, she leaves the sea life behind, having become a better person, and stays to raise a child. So a naïve aristocrat became a witty Pirate King. Will Turner starts off as a blacksmith, confident in the justice of the law. However, he bends the law for his love. His defining trait is loyalty. At the end of the first movie, Jack possesses some loyalty at the cave, and Will sees that. So he bends the law once again, risking himself and all his hopes and dreams to do what he thinks is right. So that line by Will is completely earned. In later movies, he meets his father. He has an entire conflicting arc about the integrity of Elizabeth’s loyalty. He then makes a deal with the “villains” to get the means required to get the opportunity to save his father. In the end, he does save his father but is forced to sail without his love as a consequence. So a dreamy, idealistic blacksmith becomes a hardened warrior whose real treasure is always loyalty. Jack has one of the best arcs ever as well. He starts of seeming pretty selfish, although we later learn he just wants to be a free man in body and in spirit. By the end of the first movie, he develops a liking to Will and Elizabeth. By the end of the original trilogy, Jack is still driven by that desire to be free! He wants the heart of Davy Jones to become immortal and eternally free. That is his driving force, the will to be free. However, Jack also really respects and admires Will and Elizabeth, with them being his best friends at the end of the day, when the dust settles. So at the end, he is confronted with the ultimate dilemma. Become immortal, being free from imprisonment, free from the fear of death and an end to his freedom or to save the life or Will. He does the latter, showing where his true heart (pun intended, but I don’t think you watched enough to understand it) lies. Barbossa is originally portrayed as selfish and evil. However, by the third movie he is free from the Aztec curse. We see another side of him. A playful, charismatic, even KIND side to him. We see that he is driven by the desire to be free and equal to others, for rights! When he marries Will and Elizabeth, it is a testament to his values, that even though he will always be surrounded by conflict he will always do what he thinks is right. And I’m not even going to go into his arcs in the fourth and fifth movies, although THOSE are legendary(the arcs, not the movies). So yeah, I’m conclusion you are cleeeearly misunderstanding the ENTIRE series and all the characters. Hell, even all the villains reflect the main characters AND are still deep characters in their own right. Norrington is one of many characters with incredibly complex character arcs. And I didn’t even talk about Davy Jones, the two guards from the beginning of the story, the entire crew of the Black Pearl. Needless to say, even if Norrington wasn’t in the series, the series would still be one of the best of all time. I have tried to highlight your misunderstanding of the series, but this is still not as deep as their arcs go, there is always more to it. I hope you can see it. (Go watch the other movies)

Ooohh Maple. I have a movie suggestion. Two actually. 1) 2003 - The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen 2) 1999 - The 13th Warrior OH and the Highlander Franchise starting with the 1986 original.
Honestly this movie is contender for the top ten movies of all time. Which might seem like an insane thing to say, but for me its just the perfect blend of impressive sets, costume design, serious and campy acting in equal amounts, humour, action, music and just overall fun. The sequels? They are okay. Nothing compared to the original.
Oh, and a few answers to follow. Their eyes are yellow because of jaundice, likely caused by heavy drinking and a poor diet. Their teeth are awful because it was pre-modern dental care and scurvy from a vitamin deficiency - especially common with sailors due to lack of fresh fruit and vegetables and also a heavy sugar intake from rum and chewing sugarcane.

I love how Depp based his character on Keith Richards. There just happen to also be some fun anti establishment people in the same occupation- who also get screwed over by said awful pirates.
10:38 "What does that mean? His weenie's gone?" Balls, actually 😆 17:19 I like that, too. Disney live-action movies can be pretty good at walking that knife edge. "I hate the Ocean" nah I bet you gonna like her. She played the Lego games. There was a reason why I liked her immediately. Since Disney got like it today, and fired him. They just nuked the IP.
Something tells me she isn't cultured in theater. It's a show. Be entertained. This isn't' a universe where everything is100% realistic. Skeletons with a sheet bouncing her in the air, or the guy who fell into the dock hole, or the guy who swung on the rope to The Interceptor and was way off... are all theatrical embellishments. Think of this as more a theater production rather than a super-serious realistic interpretation of magical cursed pirates.
I asked for a tight lace corset and my Dad gave me my first one on my 14th birthday! The best part was I had him and 4 brothers to make it as tight as possible every day. I have been wearing one every day since. Once I was on my own I can still count on any of them to come over to my house to tighten it if there is no other man around! This is one of those movies that would be easily resolved by just giving the antagonist what they want from the start. Ending the curse hurts nobody and makes the pirates easier to deal with.

...is Elizabeth cursed after she leaves the cave for the first time? She technically did pick up and take the gold back out of the cave... and just grabbing a piece gives Jack the curse without even leaving.
Maybe because it was never truly "returned" to begin with? Since her blood wasn't accepted by the curse... And she grabbed the same one she'd had the whole time, whereas Jack took a different one that had already been properly returned or had never been taken to begin with. Love the ambiguity tho, I bet the fanfic writers have had a lot of fun exploring all the possibilities haha
Yeah, ngl it just occurred to me in that watchthrough that she may also be cursed. Idk if it's the cut or if it just randomly occurred to me, but I'm leaning towards possibly?

I don't believe that any of these 20 something reactors have never seen these movies. They would have been exactly the age that would have been going to these movies as kids or especially junior high outings on a Saturday night.
I’m 28 and I never saw these movies in the theater when they came out… I was 7 ~ and 7 year old me was not interested
Sure, but do you know how many movies come out all the time? Have YOU seen every single movie?
Keira Knightley all of 17 when this was filmed. wow!!!
“Like _The Princess Bride.”_
Same sword master, the late great Bob Anderson. If you have a favourite movie sword fight from the 1970s through the early 2000s you can probably thank Bob Anderson for it. _Star Wars, The Mask of Zorro, Lord of the Rings…_
Okay Chad, the editing is getting better and better. I'm audibly laughing out loud, multiple times a video now 😂 Well done sir!
AKA one hour of Maple costume commentary 😂 and I wouldnt have it any other way
The Mummy, Black Pearl, and National Treasure are the last great adventure movies
hm hm the forbidden kingdom- jackie chan. jet li. legend of the monkey king
1 of my favorits, love those 3 as well : ))
When the season allergy comes it means "no breath" season. It could ve dangerous to me tbh
2:44 me with tool bag in the previous job 😂😂😂
10:42 yes
I imagine they wouldn’t disintegrate because their bodies were frozen in time by the curse. Hence why the dude with the wood eye was still missing his eye
Fun fact: Johnny depp's performance as Captain Jack Sparrow was heavily inspired by Keith Richards.
"Take what ya can, give nothin' back...." I absolutely DO NOT care what anyone says, Johnny Depp was and IS the only actor who can effectively give Captain Jack Sparrow his piratey swagger.
Too bad he's now a washed up junkie who's been repeating this same performance for twenty years.
The band name Bring me the horizon was because of this movie
Ooohh Maple. I have a movie suggestion. Two actually.
1) 2003 - The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
2) 1999 - The 13th Warrior
OH and the Highlander Franchise starting with the 1986 original.
Bro the 13th warrior is such a slept on movie and would be perfect for a reaction, especially the girls.
You nailed it with that one
Maple: "Damn, y'all seeing that over there."
Every time you release a video.
these fiorst 3 movies are such a treat
Honestly this movie is contender for the top ten movies of all time.
Which might seem like an insane thing to say, but for me its just the perfect blend of impressive sets, costume design, serious and campy acting in equal amounts, humour, action, music and just overall fun.
The sequels? They are okay. Nothing compared to the original.
Oh, and a few answers to follow. Their eyes are yellow because of jaundice, likely caused by heavy drinking and a poor diet. Their teeth are awful because it was pre-modern dental care and scurvy from a vitamin deficiency - especially common with sailors due to lack of fresh fruit and vegetables and also a heavy sugar intake from rum and chewing sugarcane.
no, it's definitely an insane thing to say.
@@fourcolorinvestments8378 Well, I'm entitled to be insane. You're entitled to be wrong. Its a top ten movie of all time.
As messed up as it is, I feel like they didn't immediately kill Elizabeth in the ritual and only cut her hand was cause they wanted an "immediate reward" when they could feel again. 🤢🤮
Still love this movie! but it's just something that occurred to me.
Who thinks of that? 😂
You’re wild haha
@@bigpictureguys8415 lol wild for sure, but let's be honest. They try to drive home that they are bad guys and comment how they haven't felt the "warmth of a woman" in years. Not to mention everyone was lusting after Elizabeth. F-ed up for sure, and it is a Disney movie, but let's be real what do u think they would have done to her if it worked the first time and she was still their prisoner? 😬
@@bubba2494 She's also made to wear the red dress from the scene in the original ride where the pirates are buying and selling "brides." So yeah I think that implication is absolutely there
I love how Depp based his character on Keith Richards. I think the movie really bothered Michael Crichton though who came up with Pirate Latitudes as an effort to re-establish that pirates were truly disgusting, horrible people rather than the loveable goofballs in this franchise. Look up what happened to Port Royal in 1692.
I remember thinking something similar. Like are we comfortable with ret-conning these dudes legacy into fun anti establishment heroes? haha
@@bigpictureguys8415 Pirates have long been used as campy storybook characters. Same as knights (look up the crusades), also cowboys, ninjas, bandits, assassins, etc etc etc. Anyways even in this film Barbossa and the others are portrayed as awful backstabbing murderous potential rap*sts. There just happen to also be some fun anti establishment people in the same occupation- who also get screwed over by said awful pirates.
Diegesis Awesome Video Today!!🔥🐐🐐💎
4:40 I'm pretty sure those heels aren't much taller than what you'd find on modern combat boots.
It’s a perfect movie, plain and simple
I forgot Zoe Zaldana got her start here
10:38 "What does that mean? His weenie's gone?" Balls, actually 😆
17:19 I like that, too. Disney live-action movies can be pretty good at walking that knife edge. National Treasure's like that too: lots of exciting action, and even some gunshots, but nothing gruesome. Even my aunt can watch National Treasure, and she's totally allergic to violence.
It's a Disney movie, you really thought it would go in that direction?
Linger and chop suey in the same vid? I'n feeling spoiled
You look great Maple love you. Happy to watch this great fun movie with you.
3:55 Love those games
This is one of the best trilogy
Barbosa's deathr eally doesn't work. Will doesn't break the curse until after, right?
Lol what's that show called again "crab fishing". Close Maple, it's called Deadliest Catch".
Who would make a better pirate out of Maple or Arianna?
Let's go, Maple!
"I hate the Ocean" nah I bet you gonna like her.
She played the Lego games. There was a reason why I liked her immediately.
Since Disney got like it today, and fired him. They just nuked the IP.
24:22 chill? They don't feel. When the curse is lifted they do feel. And have a beutiful woman with them. That won't be chill for her if you get me
As correct as you are it’s wild your brain went there. Never thought of that until you said it 😂
separate channel "Maple Plays"? yes please
"Waste not."
Not chill. Darkest disney line ever. Keepin her alive 2 grape her
maple is top tier
If I have to I can use my makeshift method of hooking the laces on a doorknob and moving forward BUT that doesn't compare with a strong man making the laces as tight as possible! 😉😉👱♀👱♀👗👗👠👠❤❤
That's not weird at all, no definitely not weird.
@@TheSwordOfTheJedi-u2p It is so not weird. I COULD tell stories about just some of my fetishes, BUT corsets, especially tight lace corsets is NOT a fetish. Many actresses are required to wear them for acting jobs and most of them have fun wearing them because they make our figure look terrific! 😉😉👱♀👱♀👗👗👠👠❤❤
They're also great for lumbar support~
@@revangerang !!😊👱♀😊👱♀👗👗👠👠❤❤
Depp based is Jack on Keith Richards
This is one of those movies that would be easily resolved by just giving the antagonist what they want from the start. Ending the curse hurts nobody and makes the pirates easier to deal with.
Except that they don’t ask for the medallion. They show up to the Swann household and immediately obliterate the butler lmao. And they might have killed Elizabeth if she didn’t invoke parlay. They didn’t know where Will was or if he was even alive since they thought ms swann was a turner
@@CoryAndor Yeah my point was never “the pirates are cool guys who did nothing wrong.”
@@SgtWicket my point wasn’t saying that they did something bad.
@@CoryAndor I don’t know what your point was.
alergies are the worst im suffering from them from early spring until late fall
Certainly know this one. 🙂👍
Yaaaay Pirates ☠️
I would totally hangout for twitch stream!
Will and Elizabeth are my favorite movie couple 🥰
They're taking the pirates to isengard.
1st pirates damn near perfect.
2nd mostly great but leaves stuff to be desired.
3rd has a few moments but is mostly whack.
4th repeat of 3’s problems.
The yellow eyes are from scurvy I think 🤔
22:04 deadilest catch
She should really watch Master and Commander.
...is Elizabeth cursed after she leaves the cave for the first time?
@@cctomcat321 it could absolutely go either way!
Hi maple
Viedogamewise Kingdom Hearts 3 has by far the best Pirates of the Caribbean world
Loved your reaction. Plz react to “Captain Marvel” (2019) one of my favorite movies from the MCU series. 😊😊
yeah Maple i saw what was over there, i see urs every reaction i see. nothing new
puppies get to breathe a lot of air lately
Bravo.
I find really funny that the automatic subtitles say "welcome to die Jesus".
Maple didn't laugh to half the things that cracked me up in this movie lol
7:32 do you live in Florida or something
Colorado
Do ya have to let it linger 😂😂😂😂
Like actually its so annoying
Yellow eyes no vitamin C
the curse was lifted afther the shot was fired, what a major fuck up.
👍🏾
