I recently read that dedicated buttons are safer than just the screen. And anyone who used to drive older vehicles knows this, because over time, you don’t even have to look when you go for a button, muscle memory, you find it every time. Not so with a screen, you have to look..
I actually just bought one three weeks ago. I thank you for the review! You made me feel more confident in my purchase! The place I got mine from was only concerned about selling it to me, I did not get any support after the purchase, but found a dealership that took me on and is helping me with my new truck. Thanks for the vid, its much appreciated!
The Tacoma is nothing but a truck it's not fancy it's not fast it's not super luxurious but it's reliable & for me it drives perfectly fine I wanted one for years & finally got one I bought a 19 used TRD off-road with 17,00mi in Barcelona red with the 6 ft bed it fits in my garage, easy to drive & perfect for work. It's got a few features that are nice the adaptive cruise control + Lane departure. It doesn't have all the goofy shit you don't need. I dig it. ⛽ Mileage sucks tho
20024 here. Just bought my preowned TRD 4x4 offroad with 10 k miles. Traded in my 2006 TRD Prerunner wit 350 k miles. The motor was still strong. Love the Simple Design of Toyota. Lovethe reliability. Less Electronic fuckery is hood, IMHO. I am an Avionics tech and I can tell you that the electronics are almost always the failure point in an electro mechanical system. Honestly, I would prefer a fully mechanical 4x4 engagement system, but those days are long gone. Loving my teuck so far though and I appreciate your videos....
Love the Tacoma and 4Runner. The best in their respective class IMO. Just got my 23 Tacoma TRD Off Road before it all changes pretty soon. I think this gen will outlast the new gen model that is coming.
I have watched hundreds of Tacoma reviews while considering which Taco to buy. A week ago i got a 23 TRD Offroad. This video is the best feature for feature explanation I’ve ever seen. Excellent video and absolutely subscribing for more.
This was a great informative video Brian! I would prefer the softer suspension. The utilitarian design would work just fine for me! I would prefer an upgraded sound system. I’ve always liked a sunroof however on a pickup like this it wouldn’t be absolutely necessary. The short bed option is preferable to me. I’m not so sure I would be that keen on the future TNGA platform of future Tacoma models! I mean this is the kind of detailed information videos I like to see! Yessir, you knocked this one out of the ballpark! I am honestly grateful to have found your channel! Have a great rest of your week Brian! Definitely! Mark in Iowa.

I am off the waiting list because was able to find a '21 tacoma 4wd double cab trd in army green with a 6 speed manual in Colorado with only 11k miles, someone traded back in for something with a auto. I love it! I really appreciate Toyota's quality heritage and attention to details. Do you still have your army green tacoma?

Yes I agree the Territory are much better than the previous tire that came on the TRD OR. Yesterday (27 Jan 2024) just bought a 2023 TRD OR Access Cab since the ‘24 returns to the Xtra Cab style. I like the Access Door picked it up with 8 miles. I am going to tint it and ceramic coat inside and out. My Salesman gave me the Overlays. I also have the basic Off Road, first time I bought a vehicle with no options. I like that the spokes on my steering wheel are flat dark gray.

Nice overview, best I have seen bar none. I came because after looking at Frontier passenger door s not installed or not made right and the dealers not caring I just bought a 4dr,trd off road 6 foot bed and wanted to see what was coming in for sure lol. Frontier has a known issue (I know now) with passenger side doors not fitting right. This will be my 1st Toyota Truck.
I’ve watched several review videos on trd off road’s and I really like your style! Very informative and you’re easy to hear, I haven’t had to keep rewinding to try and catch a phrase that was said too low, or too quietly. At about 30:19, when you said clutch, did you mean like a purse/wallet? ie you weren’t talking about for changing gears, right? I’m asking because I’m not sure I’ve ever heard of a man who knew that term lol.
Tangible buttons over digital touch screen all day. Im very utilitarian myself and wear a similar watch like you. Mine is from the 90's. Great video BTW. I just bought a '23 Trail Edition. I am considering getting a '23 Off Road instead. Mainly because I like the sunroof, bilstein shocks, and frawl mode options.
I would lift it an inch or so. Love the rims just get beefier tires. And side steps sliders. Also I like black, gray, and luna rock. And the sport is nice too!!
Get the 23 Lunar and you will be so happy. Then. Treat yourself to a TRD skid plate and be even more happy. Then go get it dirty, go camping, find some trails, take care of it, wash it, wax it, and come back to share how you like it!
The best truck in the best configuration - trd off road. I am also providing this as an unbiased opinion 😁. Seriously, the competitors try to come up with different options to steer buyers away from toyota.... but long term, nothing beats the tacoma.
Hey man, i bought the 2022 tacoma 2.7 , 4cyl., brand new with 2 year warranty...the dealer says the first oil/filter change won't be until 10,000 miles...should i be concerned??..thankyou so much, great show and info👍🏽
Congrats! It’s normal for dealer to recommend 10k since that’s what Toyota recommends. I personally change oil every 5k miles or 6 months whatever comes first.
The LED headlights is a package that some have and some do not. It’s usually $499-$599 spending on the region you buy the truck. Only available on TRD OR and TRD SPORT plus standard on the TRD PRO.
I personally think this generation Tacoma is the best looking truck on the road and reliability can't be beat. I'm not sure what my next truck will be but the way Toyota likes to skimp on features and having to pay that price on top of it.... It probably won't be my 1st choice
Thanks for your video, very professional and detailed. I am a 6ft 1" height guy and the smaller trucks are too cramped, seat too low to the floor. I would also think people should show the crash test scores when buying a vehicle, insurance costs, etc. Safety in a crash is probably pretty good on newer vehicles. I heard the naturally aspirated V6 is going away for 2023. 4 banger with turbo in its place, is thst true??? You did an awesome review, thanks again. Good choice in a quality truck purchase.
Thank you for watching. And thank you for the kind words. No definite yet on the 2.4T but I suspect it’s coming because Highlander got it and Tacoma has the 2GR-FKS that the Highlander lost. I trust it will be successful but the V6 is cherished. Especially the long lost 4.0 that the 4runner has still!
I cant find this truck ANYWHERE im not gonna lie, i dont like the style of the 2024's, this ones my favorite and I cant find it anywhere. love this truck.
The main problem as to why I won’t upgrade my 2019 Tacoma is the payload! They need to update Payload by about 500 pounds for me to even bother upgrading!
You can just upgrade the suspension for much cheaper than a new truck will cost you. You'll probably need a bigger truck though. Also, many people, including myself, have put more weight in the back than the Tacoma is rated for with no issues. Your results may vary.
@@crusherman96 I like The smaller size of the Tacoma! I already upgraded the tires for heavier loads. I put airbags in the back suspension. I have 1000 pound camper in the back of my Trd, but when you add a couple of passengers and stuff to put in the truck I’m way overweight. I like the size of this Tacoma because it’ll go on trails easier than a full-size truck. The Toyota Tacoma is way behind in Payload than every other manufacture on the market!
NO HVAC buttons on screen only! I live in Canada and need large buttons with mitts or gloves on !I love my 2020 TRD OR prem. in silver, put on about 6K in aftermarket stuff already.
Thanks, Brian, for the thorough walkthrough on the Tacoma! Love that silver color as well and would be what I get. I was getting ready to take the plunge when I found out that my local dealer is one of those who are gouging with "Market Adjustment" pricing. It basically pushed me out of the market. I have no interest in rewarding price gougers so have decied not to purchase. Was curious if anyone in the comments had to deal with this and if it disuaded you like me. Happy trucking and thanks!
I live in Los Angeles, every dealer is doing a 5k markup. Which turned me off. However one dealership. Longo Toyota is selling ALL vehicles at MSRP!! So I bought a Long bed TRD off road
@@WesternRAM ahh yes. I personally don’t like it because my mentality is geared towards more power and features. However, if you want to save money, and need a basic vehicle with a bed, it’s rugged and will last forever. It has low power. It’s nothing special. Until you make memories with it and forget how slow it is. Sadly it doesn’t get much more mpg than the V6 in most cases. But I’d say it’s great for those who don’t care about power, who live in a flat region, and want very affordable utility. Then that’s where the 2.7 shines. Even better if it doesn’t have 4x4. Now that’s a basic truck that has nothing to break!
@@brianruperti Gotcha! Reason I was asking is because I have the 4 cylinder lol and wanted an honest opinion. I live in PA so I have a 4x4 version, but that’s because it can snow here a good bit in the winter. It does have low power, but I’ve gotten it to 100mph on the highway without ECT and it did well! It’s easy to maintain and rugged when I need it to be. It’s a sr5 access cab 2.7 4x4. Easy daily driver for commuting to work and it won’t let me down when I need it to get me out of a ditch. Lol I won’t win any races with it though in any situation haha.
I am not sure what the ECT button is. Sorry if you covered this. I believe it changes shifting ratios of the transmission. I haven't tried it yet. Still working on all the other stuff to learn. Your input would be great.
Electronic controlled transmission for more “positive feelings” as the book says. It’s like a power mode button and makes the transmission rev out a bit more
I haven’t seen anyone go OEM due to cost. Aftermarket plug and play is fine just vet it well and make sure the dealer backs it for at least a year or if you’re going solo, make sure it’s the real deal.
Is it true, That nationwide as a dealer-installed option, the new lift kit provides a 2-inch front and 1-inch rear lift on most V6-powered 4x4 Tacoma models?????? Thank you. Just purchased a 2022.
I have one on order just like that. My question is the tires. What do you think about the factory tires that comes on it. Do you think they will it last for a while and do you know the treadwear rating. I was thinking about having the dealer trade them out but don't know if it would be worth the money. What's your thought on the factory tires for longevity.
I own the 2021 offroad with the factory tires and go off-roading in them and highway drive and they’re fine. I don’t know the rating you’d have to look it up but for daily driving and entry level off-roading you’re fine.
IMO the Sport rides better than the Off Road. More SUV like. The spousal unit did not like the ride and seats of the Off Road so we bought a Sport with double cab and long bed. Truck arrives next month. Will be me and spousal unit and our Belgian Malinois. Father in Law occasionally.
Looking under the hood the 3.5 looks even more serviceable than the 4.0. I have heard the Lexus models tend to get the new engines and technology for a number of reasons. First their buyers are going to expect it. These buyers generally don’t keep their vehicles as long, so if there are issues they aren’t going to keep them that long to create a bad reputation. And finally it is a smaller group of buyers to get new engines and equipment sorted out without creating a recall problem with a 240K+ of yearly Tacoma production. Toyota as we know is very conservative and likes to make small careful incremental changes. Still there are risks to new vehicles and vehicle parts, so no matter how much you test them they have to be used in the real world to really know how they will hold up.
Haven’t heard of this. I don’t work in service so idk what comes in with what issue but haven’t been made aware by any of my many Tacoma clients of any issues like that.
Hey there, sand is one of the riskiest types of terrain so this link should help you get started: topliftpros.com/blogs/news/tips-for-safely-off-roading-in-sand
I've told people how my transmission got better and better and better since I bought my 23 off-road new. Most people look at me like I'm crazy. 30,000 mi in a year and a half later it's Awesome
When I noticed that the rear factory mat is one long piece I said: cool! But then, you have to experience trying to remove something to clean/maintain, to see if its really a cool thing to have. It is not. It didn't take long to realize that the one-piece mat is a b**ch to remove. You actually have to vacuum it first or all the dirt will fall on the black carpet underneath. I like to shake off my mats everytime I see a spec of dust on them (lol!), and not been able to easily remove my rear mat is agravating. I guess at some point I will cut the mat in half with a knife and problem solved. Another thing I don't like about my Tacoma interior is the oval ring around the loops that you pull to tilt down the backrests. The ring and cloth get pulled up along with the loop. It feels shabby and Ford-like. I think Toyota dropped the ball here. Not too worried about it, but... The last thing I don't like is the sound the door makes when closing. Again, very unlike Toyota. Reminded me of my friend's old Ford Explorer; an ugly "thump", instead of that crisp, nice, high quality Toyota "creack" of my old 2nd-Gen. Is Toyota using cheap plastic parts in their latch door actuators? Should I be worried 100,000 miles down the road? I treat my cars very well and do not slam, yank over-rev or abuse them, but I can't help feeling Toyota is lowering the bar when I see these little details. Or maybe its just me. I've been driving Tacomas for over 20 years and I can pick up the little details very fast. The better and the worse. Great review as always Brian. Your review content is absolutely the best and exactly what buyers want to hear. Thanks for your efforts and honest insights.
Hey thanks for the detailed breakdown. As a Tacoma owner myself I agree about the mats. The loops don’t bug me. The door sound leaves more to be desired. But the mats do bug me when it’s detailing time lol. Thank you very much for the support! You made my day 😎
I can't find anywhere the exact tires that come stock or the tires you get for the $995 tire upgrade. Are they just Goodyear Wrangler Territory All Season for stock, and Goodyear Territory All Terrain for the upgrade? I've also seen the upgrade is Goodyear Duratrac AT, or BFG K02. Hope somebody can help me out. Thx
@@brianruperti Good one! But, my local dealers have a $5000 dollar markup on these, they usually install some options on these. I will say dealer installed option run from $1750-$3500. My guess is this will end-up costing $52000-$53500.
@@brianruperti Don’t be sorry, lol. I drove 400 round trip to pick up 2022 Frontier, because of that $5000, but I could not avoid the rip-off dealer installed options. What were these options? Tints for just the two front windows, wheel locks, and a few extra ding and scratches right off the dealer lot, added cost was about $2550. Now feel sorry for all of us!
Hilux is what is around the world, but yes Toyota is the 1st choice around the world. Top Gear (original James May, Richard Hammond & Jeremy Clarkson) tried to kill one and it still started.

Thank you! And yes I know that term 😉
@@brianruperti 😂
Tangible buttons over digital touch screen all day. Im very utilitarian myself and wear a similar watch like you. Mine is from the 90's. Great video BTW. I just bought a '23 Trail Edition. I am considering getting a '23 Off Road instead. Mainly because I like the sunroof, bilstein shocks, and frawl mode options.
"Unbiased review" First sentence says its his favorite truck. 🤣🤣
I tried my best! 🫢
Be sure to check out my recent owner review where I go over some of my gripes especially towards to end of the video
@@brianruperti Will do I'm going to buy one regardless. Wanted one forever now... 😂
They’re a ton of fun!
Busted 🤣
😭
I would lift it an inch or so. Love the rims just get beefier tires. And side steps sliders.
Also I like black, gray, and luna rock.
And the sport is nice too!!
I’m about to buy a 2023 lunar rock off road. I wanted an army green 22 off road. But they are getting hard to find.
Amen
Excellent review, thank you!!
Thanks for watching!
Yes, the 10,000 mile oil change is the MINIMUM to maintain your warranty, Change that oil every 5k or 6 months and that Toyota will never fail you.
Excellent thorough overview
Thanks MP always great to see your commends! I appreciate you watching to make sure I’m putting out good overviews 🙏🏼
@@brianruperti I try not to miss any of your vids. Always well done content
@@MPGunther1 🙏🏼That made my day!
My 21 off road came with the oem led headlights. Yours came with the halogen and it’s a 22 🧐🧐🧐
The LED headlights is a package that some have and some do not. It’s usually $499-$599 spending on the region you buy the truck. Only available on TRD OR and TRD SPORT plus standard on the TRD PRO.
Excellent video! I learned quite a lot. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
I personally think this generation Tacoma is the best looking truck on the road and reliability can't be beat. I'm not sure what my next truck will be but the way Toyota likes to skimp on features and having to pay that price on top of it.... It probably won't be my 1st choice
Have the same truck in premium trim in lunar rock. Wish they kept the 4.0!
Nice rig. I love the 4.0
great video review thanks
Thanks for watching!
Very nice thorough review. 👍🏻
Thank you
Well done video, Great job
Thank you
10/10 video! I am in the process of ordering a 2023 TRD OR Premium from the factory and this video was very informative and helpful! Thanks!
Thanks! Congrats you’re going to love that truck
Great review as Always !
Thank you! 🙏🏼
Wow,Am glad that I own one
Nice
I remember watching this vid a few months back now and now I own a 2023 lunar rock taco OR 🥹been loving it since the day i bought it!
Nice!!
@@crusherman96
I like The smaller size of the Tacoma!
@@benjones8977 to be honest that 1000lb weight is what is hurting your payload. For any halfton truck for that matter.
NO HVAC buttons on screen only! I live in Canada and need large buttons with mitts or gloves on !I love my 2020 TRD OR prem. in silver, put on about 6K in aftermarket stuff already.
Yes! Nice rig! Did you do any rust protection yet?
I have a question;? About the floor mats for the Tacoma did you have a favorite of the floor mats! For the Tacoma I have a off road 2023 .
The OEM rubber mats or Weathertech
Wish I had a knob for dimming the dash lights & screen
You do. It’s the stalk by the tachometer. Twist it counter clockwise
Great video!!! I ordered a trd off road a few months back. And chance you have a part number for those bed lights. Thanks
Congrats! Just search Toyota parts and you’ll find them! Don’t know off the top of my head

Love this video. =)
Thank you!
Just got my 2023 OR for under $3000 MSRP. They’re just trying to sell 23’s before the new 24’s, got lucky. Greetings!
Thoughts on the 4 cylinder engine??
Going to miss the 6, but I am open to change.
@@brianruperti I meant the 2.7l 4 cylinder!
Lol
I won’t win any races with it though in any situation haha.
@@WesternRAM yes precisely what the 4 was made for
I am not sure what the ECT button is. Sorry if you covered this. I believe it changes shifting ratios of the transmission. I haven't tried it yet. Still working on all the other stuff to learn. Your input would be great.
Electronic controlled transmission for more “positive feelings” as the book says. It’s like a power mode button and makes the transmission rev out a bit more
Hi Brian, do they have an OEM remote starter? If not do you recommend an aftermarket plug and play one?
I haven’t seen anyone go OEM due to cost. Aftermarket plug and play is fine just vet it well and make sure the dealer backs it for at least a year or if you’re going solo, make sure it’s the real deal.
But the inventory is still low?
Why?? Is it getting better?
And when are the 23 tacomas and 4runners coming? September?
Inventory is extremely low. It’s getting worse. We haven’t had news on when 23s are coming yet
What setting in 4 weel do you put it in for the snow? I have the same truck 🛻! Thanks 🙏
For speeds above 30 I’d be in 4Hi and if I’m in deep snow below 20mph I might go 4lo.
It’s nice truck.
reset your tire pressure//// can you explain that more please
I was slightly incorrect. That’s to reset the sensors when you rotate the tires!
Is it true, That nationwide as a dealer-installed option, the
new lift kit provides a 2-inch front and 1-inch rear lift on
most V6-powered 4x4 Tacoma models?????? Thank you. Just purchased a 2022.
Yes it’s available it’s less in the rear to increase clearance
I have one on order just like that. My question is the tires. What do you think about the factory tires that comes on it. Do you think they will it last for a while and do you know the treadwear rating. I was thinking about having the dealer trade them out but don't know if it would be worth the money. What's your thought on the factory tires for longevity.
I own the 2021 offroad with the factory tires and go off-roading in them and highway drive and they’re fine. I don’t know the rating you’d have to look it up but for daily driving and entry level off-roading you’re fine.
How many miles do you have on your Tacoma now? Are the Goodyear tires wearing even and not dipping out.?
@@ToyotaTacoma1952 21,000 miles and tires are wearing evenly performing fine
Then in the back seat, what’s that vent by the floor on the console?
That’s rear foot vent but I was referring to rear AC for my face and chest as a rear passenger.
Is there a locking differential button?
Yes in the tutorial video I go over the placement and operation of it
IMO the Sport rides better than the Off Road. More SUV like. The spousal unit did not like the ride and seats of the Off Road so we bought a Sport with double cab and long bed. Truck arrives next month. Will be me and spousal unit and our Belgian Malinois. Father in Law occasionally.
Solid plan
Very nicely stated thank you
Mexico does a decent job building these. They’re not on same level as 4Runner tho
Brian have you seen any 3rd gen Tacoma’s coming in with head/valve pressure issues? I’ve seen some trucks mostly 2017-2020 having that issue
Haven’t heard of this. I don’t work in service so idk what comes in with what issue but haven’t been made aware by any of my many Tacoma clients of any issues like that.
Good to know! Thank you!

Hey Brian , what would an ideal setting for driving on sand with 2021 trd off road? Haven't been on offroading before?

I've told people how my transmission got better and better and better since I bought my 23 off-road new. Most people look at me like I'm crazy. 30,000 mi in a year and a half later it's Awesome
Good stuff!
how do yall get the light to be moving
Which light?
What color is this exterior?
Silver
You made my day 😎
I’d get one but it needs more power I want at least 320hp and 400 torque
That would be great

I said 1/8th inch thick maybe it came out wrong. And sorry for the half! Will do better next time.
Thx
What I’m seeing is just the Goodyears from the factory
"...with a couple 10 millimeters..."

@@brianruperti Good one! But, my local dealers have a $5000 dollar markup on these, they usually install some options on these. I will say dealer installed option run from $1750-$3500. My guess is this will end-up costing $52000-$53500.
@@Andi_Doci Sorry to hear that
@@brianruperti Don’t be sorry, lol. I drove 400 round trip to pick up 2022 Frontier, because of that $5000, but I could not avoid the rip-off dealer installed options. What were these options?
