The FX-9 from Freedom Ordnance and Classic Firearms proved to be an excellent rifle. One question we all had was when will there be a pistol version? It's here. Let's take a look.

Was going to build one but thinking of this one because it's pretty much what I was going to build
Good video. I l already owned the carbine version & it is a great gun, good quality & value. When I saw they had a shorter pistol version, I had to get it. Ince again Freedom Ordnance has hit it out of the park. Fun plinker, fits my hands well. I don't mind the trigger, although some may not. Well worth the price. Over 500+ rounds, not one FTF, FTE, no issues.
Great video. Tactical Brown Box special at not extra charge...cat not included, but does believe it's purrfect with a meow seal of approval and a double wag of the tail.
I got mine Monday. Looking forward to taking it to the range and looking forward to seeing your thoughts on it too after shooting it
+Gene Reed let us know your thoughts over in our Facebook page
Can't wait to see what you think. Thanks.
Great tabletop review. All the stuff I want to know without wasting my time. And you managed to make it a cat video, which always gets more RUclips traffic and promotion. Loved your FX-9 pistol range video too, and like that you keep them separated. Thanks for the videos!
+Liberty4Ever thank you!
Couldn't wait any longer so I just bought it!! Thanks for the review.
+D Cyr Sorry! We've had hellacious filming weather. 2 more inches of rain coming tomorrow
Graham Baates it was this review that sold me on it. Hopefully weather will clear up soon for you!!!!!
Informative vid! Much appreciated. Love that Megadeth intro!!
+Dylan Thomas thanks! Dawn Patrol!
Look into the Brigade 9 mm as well.
We have two videos and an article on the BM-9. That's more of a basic AR-9. The FX-9 was designed for 9mm from the ground up with appropriately-sized receivers
I have the carbine and it is super reliable, love it.
Looks like a company that cares about their quality and customers
Witch one do you have? I have the 4” barrel and not sure I love it.
Got the 16" Carbine recently (2022 model) and it's sweet. 100% American made in Indiana too BTW.
In case anyone is interested, I've experimented with various triggers in my FX-9, and the only one that functioned properly is the Timney Trigger Impact AR Trigger. None of the Rise Armament Triggers worked right, and the Mimtac Drastic AR-9 9mm PCC Drop-in Touch Trigger instantly transformed the FX-9 into an unstoppable, out-of-control, ONE-PULL-ONE-MAG, full-auto, machine gun, with no way to stop the firing, except to keep it pointed downrange til the mag is empty, as removing your finger from the trigger doesn't work! Just an FYI...
And the price too. Plus it's a proper 9mm PCC. I have a CMMG MK4 that is great at what I want it too be, a trainer for an M4 or my 5.56 AR. But it's heavy, and cost me nearly a grand. This is in the pistol price range, and is a full pound lighter. But it keeps the same controls that I'm so familiar with. To me the big and unsaid advantage of a pistol caliber carbine for home defense is simple. Anyone can shoot one. My daughter started shooting the same cmmg, and my ex-wife's Beretta CX4 when she was nine. A shotgun has so much recoil that most smaller stature Shooters just won't practice with them. And an AR is so loud but it's hard to get children to practice with them. The 9 mil coming out of a 16 inch barrel hits more like a 357, and with pcc's becoming so popular it'd be really nice to see some ammo manufacturers loading up some carbine ammo. I've loaded up rounds with blue d o t, a slow-burning shotgun powder, and scene 1500 FPS out of a hundred fifteen grain bullet. Or my own little creation a 90 grain Hornady xtp bullet going 1600 to 1650 ft per seconds. Now that would be home defense round. But yeah I'm really considering this for my bedside gun. It's cost-effective enough that even with a Light and red. It won't be tipping the scales at plus a grand. And I may not use a red dot. I may use a set of irons with tritium inserts. Nothing to fool with, or not work when that something gose bump in the night. Been in that situation twice for sure, maybe three times, and let me tell you if you've never done it you don't have a lot of time, and there is no fine motor skills when you go from sound asleep to full-blown adrenaline rush.
Man... sorry to hear about your "night bumps" I can't imagine what you went through and more than once too. But the advice you give and the "fine motor skills" statement is so true. I'm more of the caveman type anyway so fine motor skills have never been my forte and now with the friendly reminder that it gets worse, lol, this will be something to run practice drills with that in mind.
@@thaddeustroyer Its scary for sure. Luckily no one died. First time my home defense plan failed epicly. Luckily the dogs took up my slack. I learned alot from that one. Keep your firearm in the same easily accessible place, and have it ready to be brought into action immediately. Second time the asshole never even got into the house. I had been out of tow, and my then wife had been home alone for about a month. The guy came right to the bedroom window. That one came together really well. Dog woke me up, and from the time I heard the window rattling to the time he was staring down the barrel of a loaded 12g was about two seconds. I don't know if it was the 12 guage, or the rottweiler that had just forcibly removed the blinds that dissuaded him. But I am certain that I saw a man teleport that night. Had to draw down on a road rager one time as well. Same thing applies. Has my pistol in the same place as it always is. Good thing to because he was armed as well. Just didn't get to go for it. He wanted to, and that was a scary few seconds until I got a break in traffic and hauled ass. In M4 qualification they teach us that fine motor skills are going to be gone as soon as the shooting starts. I can't speak to that as I've never been in combat. But holy shit in those situations I was shaking like a fucking leaf, and had ten thumbs. Train hard, be vigilant, because this shit happens fast.
Thanks for the quick response, I certainly didn't expect it being a 2 years ago comment. I am glad everything turned out well and I thank you for your experience, it is definitely enlightening. Keep that rotty happy and he(just assuming its a he) will keep you the same. Sounds like he is the star of the show
I have big hands and the charging handle is too darn small..can u me direct to some replacement charging handles for the fx-9 pistol?.. great video also
I have large hands too. I don't know of a larger charging handle for it. I heard rumor that Freedom Ordnance was developing another, but have seen no fact to back that up.
Mine will be here today. I wonder in the Franklin binary trigger would work in this unit?
I picked up my FX-9 pistol 3 weeks ago. Iv ran at least 1k rounds through it. Ive fallin in love with this affordable, well built firearm. I had some issues with feeding and ejection, but only when i was sighting it in. It took a few clearings before i realized that resting on the magazine was the cause of my issue. The only other complaint i have, if i would even call it a complaint, is the amount of gas that is blown to the shooters face. If you plan on replacing the trigger guard, be careful. I attempted to remove the trigger guard and gave up after trying a few different approaches to removing the pin, could get the pin to slide a mm.
I just ordered mine today.
I like it, hand guard looks like SLR rifle works pattern
Had one. Was way too heavy. Bought a Ruger pc9 carbine. Best purchase.
FX-9 pistol = 6.1 lbs
Ruger 9mm PCC = 6.8 pounds
Need to clean my firing pin, it started sticking. The manual show a standard AR pin, but it appears to use punch pins. Am I correct to just punch the pin out to remove firing pin??
Hey Graham, the algorithm listed this video for me. Whatever you’re doing, it’s working! YT is starting to catch on!
Edit: Oh, there’s a cat in it. No wonder lol
Haha, yes, this is an older video. I think when the channel got rebooted after the hack the algorithm was a bit confused as to what to push and what to hide. Usually it's based on what's successful. Somewhat self-fullfilling, RUclips promotes what does well, but the entire channel and 1,277 videos had zero views for three days, killing all momentum and restarting everything. I think this video was one of "tacti-kitty's" appearances before she got too old to jump up on the work bench (she's 20-23 years old now!)
@@GBGuns I wouldn't be surprised if other boss-cat videos will surface on my feed now. Hahaha
The trigger has a lot to be desired! Mine is a 10-pound pull! Will it take an AR-15 trigger replacement?
good video. my question is, does this require a special license to buy? im new to all of this
When will you post a shooting review? TIA
Hopefully next week. We've had some weather interference this week.
Anyone know if this would take a standard 9mm ar-15 barrel or is it a proprietary barrel?
Where are you getting accessories?
Is the barrel chrome lined
My fx-9 pistol came in today 1-10-2018 they now come with the "Muzzle Enhancer" instead
of the birdcage style. I actually think it looks better with the birdcage so I went to the site and ordered it. Love this gun so far
Congrats and thanks for the update! Share a photo with us over on our Facebook page
brad fiser does the “muzzle enhancer” blow less gas to the face?
I like it!
Same reason why I’m build a AR-9 ultra lite weight. With glock mags. For home defense. 556 is to much bullet for my house
They told me in an email that they were working on larger charging handles. Also have you experienced any doublefires with your carbine?
We have a pistol, just shot it today. No doublefire issues.
cort graham am
I like mine a lot! "Rodney Peters" has one and has a video on you-tube, it is running suppressed. check it out if you are still on the fence.
Do they sell them in 45 acp
Trigger kit recommendations?
We still have to experiment more. The problem is that if the trigger is too light you can end up with doubles.
Graham Baates Good to know. I've written Freedom Ordnance asking if there are any kits they recommend. Will post info here. Do the pistol and carbine share the same triggers?
+Dylan Thomas hard to tell. This pistol has a different finish on the parts
Update: Yup, manufacturer concurs. They're not aware of a trigger kit that they can recommend without the risk of a doubletap. They say lube the seer and just break er in..
I will say the trigger on our rifle version has gotten smoother over time.
What was the ambi safety manufacturer?
AXTS
How’s it do with defense ammo
That's in the range video
@@GBGuns would you recommend this over the brigade bm 9? Your videos are very helpful . Wanted to get something for the wife to be more comfortable to use for home defense. She’s not a fan of the kick from our shotguns and I want her comfy and confident with her tools.
Do you still have your FX-9 pistol? If so, has the pistol kept its reliability?
Yea and yes. Still loads of fun
OK, cool. I'm thinking on buying this gun, however reviews from "The Late Boy Scout" and "The Military Arms Channel" bought into question its reliability with different types of ammo. Do you shoot different types of ammo through it? Or have you found that certain types of ammo does not work in it?
Check out the shooting impressions videos. I always run a wide variety of loads through guns
Does,it take regular ar charging handles
+Kdglock44 no. 9mm bolts are shorter
Cats always want to help clean the guns. Lol
I wanna see how it runs.
+Jared Lyle that's coming
Like for the cat.
I saw on the loadout room that you changed the trigger out on the FX-9 to the CMC. I was wondering if there was an update on how that worked out. I have one of these and have been thinking about switching out that trigger. Have any plans on doing a video on that by chance?
I do actually, and filmed that this last weekend but the file corrupted! In short the CMC works! I'll refilm next chance I get.
Looks like I need to order a new trigger!
Anyone try a different trigger yet?
Run a Rise Armament RA-140 SS with no issues.
Thanks I could care less to see how you shoot guns. as long as you tell me how it ran. Great video.
+Steve Jennings haha. That's why we separate tabletop and shooting videos. In the shooting videos we try a variety of ammo and mags of available.
Graham Baates Hey after I read what I said it sounded bad but after seeing a 100 video's you just want hear what makes this gun better than the rest. You do a great video. I really enjoyed it. Have a great weekend and thanks for responding.
Hey how do you compare this at 9mm to something like diamondback DB9RPB10 or Angstadt Arms UDP-9
+Steve Jennings the FX-9 series is an inch shorter in the receiver because it was designed from the get go as 9mm. The downfall is it doesn't accept some of the aftermarket stuff out there.
CAN THEY MAKE A FOLDABLE STOCK?
9mm ofc better then 22lr or 22wmr but still very under 223/5.56
i prefer 5.56 rifle tbh
Does the pistol version require a tax stamp?
+mwhite202020 no, but if you want to put a stock on it then yes
A "pistol" will never require a stamp, adding a stock instead of a pistol brace transforms it into an SBR, which would then need one.
Does the cat take Glock mags?? 😊😊
After refilming half-a-dozen times I decided to just let her get in the shot. The worst is when she decides to rub on the tripod.
Only a combat situation will she pack them for you.
Only a combat situation will she pack them for you.
Funny how he was dogging on magpul yet hadnt tried the sgm mag. Just because it has a liner doesnt mean anything
just skip to 3:20 everything else is pretty pointless
