Thank you so much for posting this. I'm about to make this dress and I love your method of waiting to sew the sleeve gathers until the majority of the neck binding is sewn. Brilliant! Thank you! Oh and I am local so I cannot wait to shop at your store :)
Thanks for watching, Romy! I'm glad you've recognized it! 😄 I always find adjusting gathers to make a certain length tricky so had to come up with an idea! Can't wait to meet you in person!😊
I am very late to the M 7969 bandwagon party but I have to tell you that you sew beautifully and explain so well with real elegance and charm. I am going to make my first one using a thrifted duvet cover, and then I have to have one just like yours but much, much, much bigger!!! Lovely tutorial thank you.
I enjoyed M7969 make with floral sleeve and part wrap over, added to the dress, also the gathering method using cord and zigzag. I will find this useful and has given me new tips. Thank you
What a coincidence you posted this today. I woke up and felt like making something and looked on IG for inspiration. I have this pattern and haven't made it yet. I love all your tips!!
Thank you! I will never gather any other way again! Thinking to mark the cord ends to the finished width needed will help me tie them at the right length and then I will adjust the gathers :)
Thanks for a very easy to understand tutorial! I will be making this dress very soon and I know it will be successful because of your great video! Thank you!
thank you for showing me the steps in a beautiful video! also i love it when you use beautiful fabrics to make the clothes. it adds to the experience of watching it ha ha. Also i tried making this dress two months ago!! it was a right mess with the sleeves!! i will definitely use your method!!
Your videos are so helpful and lovely to watch. I'm about to start this dress and I already know I will have your video up as a reference the whole time!
I recently discovered your channel. It is wonderful. I have wanted to make garments based on this design. The pattern is perfect and i am so glad i found it on eBay. Linen would be my first choice for the fabric. I do not have a serger but a zigzag stitch will work fine for finishing the seams. Wish me luck. Keep your videos coming. Thank you. 🪡 Susan, North Carolina 🇺🇸
Thank you Sarah for your beautiful videos I love to watch everything are you so all your projects and I’m learning from you I wanted to ask you what is the size of the arm the yarn cord that you’re using for the gathering...🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰😋😋😋😋😋
Thanks for watching my videos and the encouragement! 🥰 Measure the length of the part you need to make gathers and cut a yarn a little longer than that! Don't throw it away after use. You can reuse it over and over! 😉
Absolutely love your makes, thank you for taking time to make thses videos they are very helpful. I am planing on making the m7969 but the neckline is abit too low for me. Any advice on how I could raise it. Thank you.
Thank you so much for posting this, I'm learning so much watching your videos! I would love to see some hack-video tutorials as well. I am quite new at making my own clothes and feel a bit uncertain when it comes to hacking and altering, I think seeing you do it will boost my confidence in trying myself and teach me a lot! :)
I think your tutorial is great, but I am confused about seam allowance/measurements on the binding. for the sleeve binding, for example, the instructions say to fold the edge 5/8 and then cut to 3/8 (which I don't really get); in you video you fold 3/8" and you sew at 3/8", while the instructions say 5/8". I had trouble with the binding the first time around and am hoping to figure this out this time. Thanks!
Thank you for sharing your video. I have some questions ?What fabric did you use, cotton, linen or rayon? Did you cut the interfacing for the neckline on the bias too? Thank you!
HI Sara, thanks so much for this video! Your gathering trick is awesome since I actually hate doing gathers because they are difficult for me 🤦♀! would you please tell me how you printed your pattern out? I'm having some issues with the margins on the pattern ;( Hope you are feeling better!🙏
@@SewingTherapy thanks for taking the time to respond 🥰 Do you by any chance remember what the margin was around the pattern? One instructional video from McCalls said there should be one inch all around that is to be cut off before piercing the pattern pieces. I get barely 1/2 inch for printer setting as 100%. All other pdf patterns have a test square but not this one. Does that make any sense??🤦♀️Thanks!
@@danabrinkerhoff3825 Hm I don’t remember any of those! 🥲 If you know anyone who has this pattern, ask the length of one side, such as the shoulder seam and compare to yours! If I were at home, I would do it for you!

Hi! Beautiful. I have bought the pdf-pattern. What does “use 5/8” seam allowance” mean? Is it already included in the pattern or should I add it before I cut the fabric?
Seam allowance is already included in the pattern! Seam allowance is the area between your stitching and the raw edge of your fabric. So you stitch 5/8" away from the edge in this pattern.
Glad I looked through the comments as this was exactly my question. I just downloaded the pattern and was wondering the same thing. In Burda Style e.g. they also recommend to use 5/8" SA but you have to add it on first as those patterns come without SA... Also: how did you print it out (as there is no test square)? In actual size? Thank you so much for the great video. It will be a huge help when I start sewing this up ♡
Does it have to be a certain kind of thread to do gathers or can it be something else?? You used cord right?? Are there any other options to use? Thanks 😀
I want to make a top instead of the dress. Not sure how to do this. Cut just a piece of the skirt pattern? Or do I use the skirt ruffle piece? (I guess this one might be too wide, no?)
The thicker thread you use to gather the fabric. Is that special to sewing? What kind is it? I thought people just pulled at threads after sewing. I hope this isn't a stupid question. I'm so new to sewing with patterns. I
I have sewn for 50 years but learnt today, from you, an easier way to sew the neck binding. Thank you.
Awww it's honored to hear! Thanks for watching my video!
I'm so happy. I now have M7969 pattern. I'm picturing it in so many colors and prints and will love using your ideas.
Hope you love your M7969 dresses as much as I do! ❤

I don't like very puffy garments, but this gathering technique seems such so much fun to use. I will definitely try it!
I used to avoid the pattern which involves gathering but now I don't! I love the new method!

Thank you for posting this tutorial. I like your sewing tutorial best off all for the McCall’s m7969. It really helped me out. 😊

Love the gathering technique with the cord. Will try it next time. Thank you.

Zigzag gathering = 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
Thank you so much, the dress is beautiful, but I see that technique easing my future projects so much! I found a treasure.
That method is a game changer! I don't hate gathering any more! 😁
I saw this video and totally love your style. Soothing music and nice clear video and instructions . I'm a fan!!

Thank you for these wonderful tutorials...can you tell me what your stitch length and width is for your gathering technique?
😊 I used 7 for width and 4 for length.
Thank you for the tutorial! Beautiful!
You're welcome! Thank you for watching!❤
Thank for this! Can I ask what size you made? We are similar measurements and I like how the finished product drapes on you!
Hi Brandi! 👋 Thanks for watching my new video! I made a size S and it would work for you in case we have similar measurements!😊
@@SewingTherapy May I ask what your measurements are. I’m tracing and S after much deliberation. I’m 34.5” - 27” - 34.5”. Thanks!

Hello, Sara! I really want to make this top! How many yards of fabric did u use/purchase? And if im a XS, should I make the top a size 8?
Please refer to the size chart on the pattern! 😊 I made my size based on the size chart!
Thanks!
The binding method is quite flexible. You don't need to be strict about the seam allowance. Just focus on wrapping the seam. :)
Great tip for gathering. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing your video. I have some questions ?What fabric did you use, cotton, linen or rayon? Did you cut the interfacing for the neckline on the bias too? Thank you!
I used linen for the navy dress and warp and weft cotton for the top! I didn’t use interfacing on the neckline!
This was such a good tutorial! Do you have any tips for finishing the seams if you don’t have a serger?
I have a video about How To serge without a serger. I will leave a link here. ruclips.net/video/XvLlGaJPQOY/видео.html
Beautiful method
What length of fabric did you use for the shirt version? It’s so cute! 😍
I will get back to you with the length! 😊 What I've done was cutting the length after trying it on!

Hi, thank you for the tutorial! For the first method for the garters, do you use elastic thread or regular sewing thread?
I used regular poly thread! 😊
