@@johnsysays Not if you study stuff ya feel like studying instead of what you THINK you should be studying...there's also the drawing what you learned in your usual work.
this series inspired me to start a new "pen only" sketchbook to increase my observational skill. I'm more of a painter and drawing is sometimes like a chore to me. But every good painting needs a good drawing underneath. It's also interesting to see how these different artists use their sketchbooks
Still using? Why would a pro stop? Here is the difference between a pro and someone who doesn't get anywhere and just complains about not being any good. A pro always has a sketchbook with them no matter what and fills 5 through 20 of them a year. "Regular" people who doodle fill one in about 5 years and pat themselves on the back.
@@ducksoff7236 There are plenty of professional, skilled artists who don't carry a sketchbook around with them 24/7. That's not a requirement at all, though some people enjoy that. And many pros don't keep a sketchbook that's just for practice either. That's what Audrey seemed to be getting at. Many artists don't have a sketchbook just for fun or exploration. Many that we see are seemingly curated and made to be showpieces. That's how we're reading their words, at least.
@@ProkoTV I think what ducksoff is actually referring to is that artists should be practicing all the time. Sure, there are many pros who don't use sketchbooks, but they will do a ton of study, reference, and design work before working on the final piece.
This is such a good contrast to Peter Han's sketchbook video where his were full of very detailed sketches, Devin's are more simplistic while still having a large variety of designs with more basic shapes
I love how she breaks down her processes. It's very inspiring hearing them laid out so plainly. Such a talent! I need to incorporate some of her ideas into my own practice sessions.
Notes to self Shapes, Structure, Forms to try to understand what the object looks like and how to break it down so you can use it from your visual memory and be able to manipulate it as you desire. I feel I’m never ready to draw for myself without knowing everything. But damn is that a paralyzing feeling.
holy moly, it's Devin Elle Kurtz! Some time ago I stumbled upon her ink art on her youtube channel, which is amazing! She has been my inspiration to do ink wash. It would be cool if she had course on Proko on ink wash and inking in general! 🙏🙏🙏
you can't even fathom, how helpful this series is to me rn. i've been researching different ways to increase visual library and none was so inspiring and entertaining for me, as the one that Devin showed. thank you, Devin and Proko ❤
The amount of inspiration I'm getting watching this, to get to work immediately. It's just Wow! This is probably gonna be one of my most favorite sketchbooks flipthrough from now on. I'm gonna borrow a few themes from this, too, for sure
Loving all these sketchbook videos! You can really hear the passion and love of art that people like Devin Elle Kurtz or Peter Han have when they’re going through the pages. Definitely makes me just want to doodle in my sketchbook more.
leaving the lines to know what mistakes I usually make is genius. love this series. pulled out a clip board and paper and did still lifes all morning. Ty!
her sketchbook is inspiring!! oooh this is exactly what i did before doing a big project! I always need to learn and get used to drawing a certain plant, certain leaf, certain animal, etc. my sketchbook may be awkward as a result but i "left behind" the learning curve before i was able to draw the project for real. also thumbnailing in skecthbook.
I definitely need to try this. It looks like it could help me develop my own artstyle and design OCs that dont look like ripoffs, and i get to draw a lot more, absolutely nothing to lose
I find myself agreeing with Devin's logic around adding color making it harder for her to stay in a sketching mood...for me, I find it very difficult to stay in the sketching mindset if I use regular pencil but switching to primarily Pen forced me to stay in the loose mindset and not be so fixated on making sure each line was perfect since I can't just erase the line away. Anyways, great video! I love this sketchbooking series so I hope this channel continues with it!
I didn't expect to find my reptile special interest in a proko video lol. It was neat being able to immediately recognize what species she drew (sometimes even before she did LOL) Autistic sidenote: the photo shown on the bearded dragon page was an australian water dragon! they're like beardies' swimsuit model cousin
Hell yeah go Devin! So many great insights on how to have fun in a sketchbook! This series has been inspiring and an absolute treat, looking forward to more.
16:12 I have her 7 Eleven Dragon print framed on my wall! I also have another with two kids finding a dragon on an old abandoned car. I can’t tell you how many times I just stare at them for inspiration, but also just to escape. I get a strong sense of nostalgia from her work. I love it so much.
Actually I've had the idea to do studies like these. I need to learn more about Structures, Interiors, Furniture, Plants, Animals etc. My only thing is I like to be more organized. I do have a sketch book separate for Animals/creatures, and another I am using for Manga Reference drawing currently. A good idea, I will further utilize this.
Great video! Seeing her line quality really inspires me to get better with pen. Btw who handles the subtitles for the videos? I’ve been wondering this for a while
For our uploaded subtitle tracks, those are made using a subtitle software and a little bit of human oversight to make sure it doesn't have any big issues. But there are also the options for auto subtitles, both English and other languages that people may come across. We don't create those.
But what fundamentals do i need to study before doing practices like these? Stuff like perspective, form, composition, etc? The purpose of studying and drawinng these objects is to be able to come up with your own designs when you need to create original pieces, right?
We have a playlist of free lessons from our Drawing Basics course that takes you through the fundamentals you need to be able to draw your own imagery. ruclips.net/video/tx5kJvI14Jg/видео.html
lol if you like geckos, you should visit the Philippines. I have family in the Philippines so I go often and there are always lots of geckos, they run through the house and on the walls and everywhere lol. you would have plenty of lizards to draw.
Quit again for 6 months, wonder how long I’ll go before I stop again. So far my longest was 2 months. At least my attempts are more frequent than the multi-year stints I used do.
I feel like the rest of these 12 days of proko sketchbook videos should have the same thumbnail as Peter Han, but with the artist if that video, not just there hands 🔎
looks like someone lacks eyes ! its also a sign of extreme skill to be able to simplify . she clearly has a grasp on form and detail that's apparent in her full pieces . and even clear in these simpler sketches . not to mention the lineart . trust me, no kid could replicate that with ease

This actually made a lightbulb go on in my head. So that's how drawing random objects in sketchbooks could be fun and useful instead of boring!
Fun for how long lmao...all this becomes work at some point. Just sayin
Same! An absolute eye opener right for the beginning of the video. So helpful. Thank you so much guys 🥹

It's amazing to see an accomplished artist still using sketchbooks as practice zones, which makes me feel less insecure as a complete beginner :,)
Never let go of sketchbooking for practice and exploration! You need that space to grow and just have fun, alongside your pieces made for show.

I was literally searching for a sketchbook video about this topic 2 days ago and this one shows up in my subscriptions today. This is so wild 😭
Happy to have what you needed to see!

Such a great series. Would watch one of these every week if possible. Great editing (I see your names in the description).
I like the different line weight on the chairs 😊
Wow. Really inspiring, I will listen to your videos later whenever procrastination and artblock hits x"D
Really love these insights

Ive absolutely go on furniture websites and just drawn their furniture before.
Hi proko, just wanted to say that i love this series and to please keep going with it 👍
We've got 10 more coming for the next 10 days, at least! After that, we'll do em every once in a while.

When I saw the thumbnail I thought this was going to be Sorie Kim's, her style is so similar (in regards to sketching).

Screentone on the dog 16:30. Is it printed sketchbook or what?
