    Lyrics
And if the snow buries my, my neighborhood
And if my parents are crying
Then I'll dig a tunnel from my window to yours
Yeah, a tunnel from my window to yours
    You climb out the chimney
And meet me in the middle, the middle of the town
And since there's no one else around
We let our hair grow long
And forget all we used to know
Then our skin gets thicker from
    Living out in the snow
    You change all the lead
    Sleepin' in my head
    As the day grows dim
I hear you sing a golden hymn
Then we tried to name our babies
But we forgot all the names that
The names we used to know
But sometimes, we remember our bedrooms
    And our parents' bedrooms
And the bedrooms of our friends
Then we think of our parents
Well what ever happened to them?
    You change all the lead
Sleepin' in my head to gold
    As the day grows dim
I hear you sing a golden hymn
The song I've been trying to sing
Purify the colors, purify my mind
Purify the colors, purify my mind
And spread the ashes of the colors
    Over this heart of mine

One of the only other songs I can think of that fits those criteria for me is "The Place Where he Inserted the Blade" by BCNR
The main thing that those two songs have in common is that it only takes a few seconds for that feeling to return. After just the first few notes, the nostalgic keyboard twinkles on the Tunnels or the despondent piano notes on The Place, all those smothering emotions and memories all flood back and I snap right back into the same mindset I'm in anytime I hear those songs. They're pretty similar in other ways too, they both have a very bittersweet sound to them, where a rush of euphoria is met by crushing sadness of the reality of the circumstances surrounding them. Both Win Butler and Isaac Wood, the frontman for BCNR, also have extremely emotive voices and write such depressing lyrics.

I was, few years back, 2015 maybe, in Gröna Lund in Stockholm, and it was absolutely magical! I was very near Lady, which was partialy singing from a separate tower, vis a vis the main scene (consert was in Tivoli), like 2 meters from Her, and i will never forget it! Pure energy and magic! I love this band for "Reflector", and this is the only band of this type music which im listening.

Saludos.

I knew Arcade Fire since 2015, thanks to No Cars Go, but I never checked them out until 2017.
This year, however, we began to teach (by having our classes) in public high school in order to get our work experience.
Even at 24, I never really felt 'older' than most high school students or the college students in the years below me; however, when I got to spend more time with the high school students there and have one or two classes, it all changed! I no longer felt that I was 'that young' and I realized that I had grown up a lot. The high school merely seemed like a 'day care' for grown children who were free to do whatever they want, blissfully unaware of the harsh realities of life (i.e., growing up, having responsibilities, maybe even getting sick and being aware of your mortality).
This song, along with Wake Up, really came into clutch (I don't like this phrase btw). In a way, I felt like life has passed me by, even though I still felt like I haven't done much during my early twenties. Perhaps it was because I took a two year break from Uni due to health issues or maybe cause I never really got what I wanted of life up to that point. Nevertheless, this album really hit me. Funny thing is that I never bothered to check Arcade Fire's older stuff (I knew Neon Bible, Reflektor, and Everything now up until this month) until I saw this album, among many other albums at a friend's house whom I went to visit for the first time. I've known her since 2015, having met her online, but we'd never met before. She agreed to give me her only copy and that's how I really got into Arcade Fire.
Ironically, the last album I will be checking out by them is The Suburbs - the one that won the Grammy lol

Wow, that's a lot of introspection for a 24 year old. Sounds like you need to just get on with enjoying yourself and discovering new music, you're young, don't think too hard about life.

    • @martinrose6357
      @martinrose6357 4 года назад +1

You're right! You get used to everything in the end I say, but this was a brand new stage of my life and this album just intensified it all. Never underestimate how quickly I can go from crying to this to showing off my dancing skills (by myself) when I play "Signs of Life," from Everything Now, just five minutes later.
Like Tom Chaplin from Keane once sang, "No-one's really happy or sad for very long." :)

Rage Against the Machine and Dead Kennedys did the same thing for me when I was a bit younger than 24. Jello is my idol, I watch him on RUclips every day. Really changed the way I thought/think. I know it's a really different genre of music from Arcade Fire so I'll add in these few gems that are in the same vein as AF. Check out Tame Impala, Miike Snow, Glass Animals and Bloc Party. So good. Ooh and Joshua Homme's Queens of the Stone Age/Them Crooked Vultures (Dave Grohl, John Paul Jones from led zep and Josh Homme), Maynard's Puscifer/Tool/A Perfect Circle, Nine Inch Nails and Deftones! I hate radio rap but love lesser known hip hop. There's some really great rappers, Ive heard the phrase "intellectual hip hop" used, that have really impacted me. Like Cunninlynguists, Eyedea and Abilities, Dead Prez, Zion I, Aesop Rock, Madvillain, MF Doom, Sol, Atmosphere, living Legends, hieroglyphics, Immortal Technique, People Under the Stairs, GZA, J5, Del, Tribe called quest, Deca, GZA, Big Krit, Blackalicious, Flatbush Zombies and Gift of Gab! Ok rant over. But I hope you're able to discover some new music that you love.

    • @martintube24
      @martintube24 3 года назад

I grew up with Bloc Party! Glass Animals have some good songs but I feel I'm a bit old for them. Oh, and Miike Snow: I used to love them but they remind me of a period when I was in an online relationship with a girl that never led to anything further so I want to put that period behind. Their new material was okay, but too mainstream for my liking.
I like The Hand That Feeds You (or something) by Nine Inch Nails and also a few songs by A Tribe Called Quest (Can I kick it? :) ) Thanks, man! I believe we don't come across music by accident, so I'd rather let destiny show me the music that needs to find me, but I'm thankful for the recommendations and someday, when I have more free time, I might go on their Spotify profiles and check their most popular stuff to see if I like it! Obrigado.

Thank you so much for this song! It’s a masterpiece and it’s also accurate for a teenager as I once was...wanting to scape the reality. So many memories in one song... I love you so arcade fire! Keep being real! And keep talking about things that truly matter as you do!
