Apart from the main cast, Anthony Hopkins and Tilda Swinton were brilliantly cast. Always top notch.
Imagine from The Ancient ones' perspective..she just handed the time stone to Bruce, walks inside the building to find Rogers waiting for her at the entrance to return the Time Stone. She must have felt a insane amount of anxiety and relief in those few moments.
Not really if you know how time works and being The Ancient One, she probably was expecting it.
@@KingDusk278 Not really, if she could see that the time stone would be returned seconds later she wouldnt have fought to not have to give it up. Im guessing that she isnt seeing forwards in time here and obviously if she used the time stone to just look ahead and see if it succeeded it would have defeated the suspense. Most likely she has used the time stone before to scout the future sorcerer supreme candidates which is why she knows about strange but she wasnt able to see him giving the stone to Thanos and she cant see if they will use the stone successfully and return it. So from her point of view she had no idea if that stone would be returned, ergo yeah she would have had some relief to open the door and see the stone promptly returned.
@@stevensanderson2817 That’s not what I meant, Bruce already said that they would return the stones the right back as it left, so for her to know how time travel works she would be expecting someone to return with the stone in a few seconds.
@@KingDusk278 I know, but she didn't absolutely know for sure until she opened the door and saw him there. If she knew with certainty that it would be returned she wouldn't have said no when hulk showed up, she would have just said here I've already seen that you succeed so just return the stone to this time period after you finish. There wouldn't have been a need for him to explain that he could return the stone and her to need to realize that strange had given up the stone or for her to tell him that she was trusting him to return it. She didn't know.

@@voicesgt9204 he went on to launch a potentially multiverse-breaking spell to solve some teenage drama without accurately defining its consequences *and* agreed to the changes halfway through. Placing all the blame on the teenager is a bit of a stretch.
@Antonio O. Martín ehh, not really strange kept telling peter to stop tampering with the spell and peter isn't really a teenager in no way home he's a young adult.
@@antonioo.martin222 also it wasn't just "teenage drama" it was his secret identity and the fact that mysterio exposed him in being a murder. So a lot of it was on the line and peter went on to ask dr strange for help, in which peter irresponsibly kept changing the spell because he still wanted people to know his secret identity.
He was just risking his own universe, not that it lessens the weight.

Hulk prevented an entire space eel from doing 911 on a building, Ironman kept a perimeter, Cap got the police to form a perimeter. I don't think they showed a single building collapse in the entire film.

Amazing how this works. Strange saw that the only way they could win, was if the Ancient One realized that Stephen had seen the only way they could win, and that that was by giving it willingly, and not it being forefully taken. It breaks the code of The Ancient One not being able to see past her death. Brilliant.

I love Bruce's instinctive control of his astral body. No floating, just walking, and he pulls the facsimile of the Time Stone out of thin air like he has as much control over the projection as she does.
Probably also learnt about magic already. He's a scientist and 5 years to let the fact magic is a real aspect of physics in his reality sink in helps.

@@runner9528 I would. She told him he didn't want to do this and his response was "You're right, I don't" whereupon he reaches for the stone, but doesn't actually try to strike her. He had no intention of harming her, and she most likely had the presence of mind to pick up on that, hence the (mostly) peaceful exchange.

I have to admit in theaters, when she suddenly said "or maybe I did" in regards to making a mistake, I thought she meant it was a mistake making Doctor Strange the Sorcerer Supreme ... glad it was just she was wrong in not trusting the stone to Bruce!
For real, had that same thought on my first viewing fearing it was gonna maker her suddenly think Bruce was actually a threat, but the perspective with her trusting that Stephen knew what he was doing is so much cooler. Her performance nonetheless is so so good in this and I’m super glad they had her come back for a scene!
What I thought it was going to be was “Or I did” meaning that if she gave the stone to Bruce, then Strange wouldn’t have it to give to Thanos. I then swiftly remembered in the MCU, changing the past doesn’t affect the future, just creates another timeline

I love the whole, "You're about... 5 years to early," line cause it shows the MCU doesn't have all it's iconic heroes yet. Some still haven't gone through their origin story yet. Doctor Strange still hadn't gone through his befire the Avengers, neither has Kamala Khan, and several other heroes.

I love how at first Banner said "I wasn't asking" and then try to take the Time Stone from the Ancient One forcefully, he still think hes the big dog and no one can stop him. Then after being Punch out he said "With All Due Respect" to her ... he realize that even the Hulk was out of her league.

this scene showed what kind of man dr strange was even before the accident. ancient one said he was performing surgery 20 blocks away. now during the invasion that would still be in area. so its likely doctors, nurses and patients were trying to get to safety or hold down the fort. but he was still performing surgery
By oath medics, surgeons and nurses have to save lives even in the middle of an alien invation, of course that doesn't make his surgery acts less heroic, I'm sure he saved a lot of lives that day.
So he witnessed the alien invasion of new york yet when the time came for visiting the ancient one he didn't believe in supernatural stuff?

We saw the kind of man he was before the accident and he was a fucking asshole. The guy wouldn't perform surgery on someone unless it was complex and new otherwise he'd ruin his reputation.
One of the best scene of Endgame when the sorcerer asking why strange gave it away the Infinity stone and realize the moment without knowing and the trust she set upon Dr Strange is incredible.

Tilda Swinton the actress playing ancient one bringing godly acting to the MCU.
Little things like this make the movies seem like a universe. The Ancient One existed in New York during the battle against Loki. She was doing her thing without us knowing it, at the time.
One second after this:
Steve: 'You must be the one who carried this stone before Strange had it.'
Ancient One: 'And you must be Bruce's friend, here to fulfill his promise.'
Steve: 'You don't seem surprised to see me.'
Ancient One: 'I'm not. I had a good feeling about him. He's a man of his word. As, it would seem, are you.'
Steve: 'Thank you for that. It made all the difference.'
Ancient One: 'Please. Speak no more of it. The less I know, the more intact my own timeline stays.'
Steve: 'Fair enough. *hands over stone* I have to be on my way now. More stones to deliver. And another promise to keep.'
Ancient One: *looking at the stone and smiling* 'Well done, Strange.'

She was up there killing aliens by the score the whole time the Avengers were getting all the glory. She probably just went back to doing yoga when it was done and never told anyone except her people.

The acting is so underrated in this scene. Ancient one's emotion from being a badass to a worried mother. Top tier portrayal of emotions.
i love how as soon as she realizes that Strange gives the stone willingly she did not hesitate at all to give Bruce the stone and knows that Strange would give it willingly for a good reason

Marvel was amazing here. Excellent casting, bright cheerful costumes, scenes and lighting and action you can follow instead of extreme close up or shaky cam or the stupid gritty realistic frenetic cut shots. And good story and everyone had a part, dialog, role that was important.
I haven't seen these movies. But this scene looks good. Especially with Tilda Swinton.
But don't you think they should have made a Secret Wars movie/storyline first?

My favourite quote from this moment is “ strange is meant to be the best of us” it tells us that even in 2012, she knew that strange was meant to be the best sorcerer so it makes sense when he finally showed up why she was at first, reluctant to teach him because when she died, she told him that she never saw his future. Only its possibilities, so while she evidently saw the future where he became a great sorcerer, she must’ve also seen the futures where it’s possible he met an early grave because he was a sorcerer and other possible futures where he became, evil, so it makes sense her reluctance at first, because why would she want to take a man who could become one of the greatest sorcerers, in existence and possibly condemned him so

So hearing that Strange gave the stone to Thanos, and the fact that Strange can perceive everything before his death, not after...
She is shocked at knowing her death being is just 12 years or closer, Strange giving such powerful stone to another being, she is also shocked to know that Strange did it in desparation, shocked that she cannot calm herself that she has to trust Strange a whole ton, and she has no control over it?
Strange was meant the best of us. Solidifies that he gave the stone for a reason. He was certain that the Ancient One would gave the stone to Bruce as one of many possibilities he foresaw.

I like how Hulk goes from We will to I will when she says you have to survive. In some sense he knows the Hulk still lives inside him and he will survive.
I wonder out of all the futures Strange saw to defeat Thanos, how many involved giving up the Time Stone. It'd be interesting if it was just the one future, like he really tried so many versions where he kept the stone but it all led to failure. OR he tried in vain for a future where he gave up the stone AND Stark lived, but couldn't find one.
Dr. Strange found a reality in which they defeated Thanos pretty early on. However, he was still pissed at Tony for being a jerk, so he kept going till he found one where Tony and Thanos died.
@@javascap6258in all reality, the most reasonable conclusion isnt that there was only 1 reality where they won, but that Tony has to think there's only one reality where they win in order for any of the victorious endings to happen
@@kevinong9471 also they have to be realities in which they win, and Dr. Strange survives to see the result. There may have been lots of possible wins that Dr. Strange just can't see because he's dead in them.
The idea there was only one way out is terrible writing. The only way I could see it is if Dr. Strange knew any other outcome would alert the TVA.
And he had to delay giving the stone until after Scott Lang went into the Quantum-verse, so a rat could climb on the control panel and save the day.
No one talks about her scars on her head to indicate she has been trying to avoid death from brain cancer, and finally accepted it when she passed on the title to Strange.

I personally believe that was the whole point of Thanos acting this late
him knowing that there were entities powerful enough to wipe him out easily
so he instead used his minions to bring him the stones to be out of their radars
but once finding out they all died
he decided to make the move himself now that he had less threats to deal with
By the time of that fight he had the Soul stone. Which would have countered that move.

Tony Stark was the only one with nano technology who could transfer the stones to his suit in the heat of the moment, without going through the difficulty of taking the whole gauntlet off.
My man Strange was so dedicated to his craft that he was performing surgery during a LITERAL alien invasion. No wonder he has all those fancy and expensive watches! He’s willing to make money moves even during the end of the world!
The surgery was probably well underway before the start of the invasion. At that point, the only thing he could do was finish despite the surrounding circumstances since stopping would mean the patient would die

Love this scene and Tilda Swinton's performance. The change in her facial expression at 2:28 from righteous, confident, supreme, amused and a little bit condescending to doubt is wonderful to watch. Yes, it's a cheesy superhero movie based on comics. But you can still have great actors/actresses giving hellish good performances.
I love how Bruce being a scientist got to witness astral projection and magic.

That part literally gave me chills...like at that point I knew SOMEONE important on the team wasn't going to survive this.
It would have been cool for them to make footage showing each stone being returned to its timeline just a few seconds after they were taken from it. Like here, if moments after The Ancient One hands Hulk the stone and he leaves, Cap popping back and handing it back to her. Ditto for the other stones.

All the tv shows weren’t good these past years. One about captain America returning the stones would be an amazing series to watch and give closure to his character.
They would have to plan it well, as each time Cap returns a stone the powers available to him are reduced. Let alone putting the Aether back into Jane.
I liked that this scene explained the time travel in simpler terms. And ancient one is a pretty compelling character. Despite her limited presence in the film, she was still great

Interesting how banner and hulk combined, right, and then when the Ancient One bamfs him into his true spirit form, he's still the same timid, earnest, uncombined Banner. He no longer fights Hulk so much, but battles his timidity still. Fascinating
It's because Bruce Banner is hulk in his purest form. Bruce has always been Bruce, but he has only been hulk since the gamma radiation. As such, it makes perfect sense that even though they find a way to co-exist, the spirit form remains as pure Bruce Banner, as the Hulk was only an unwanted addition later on in life.
I thought that when she did that it would actuslly backfire and hulk would be forced to come out with banner being gone.
Tilda Swinton giving a fantastic performance for a 4-minute-long cameo is why she's the GOAT. Amazing casting.
The forethought and writing to piece all of this together in all of the movies is incredible.

@@leojs5673 Covid started in late 2019. This movie was released in april 2019. So not quite a full year. If I remember correctly Covid started in November/December 2019 in China then started creeping it’s way all over the rest of the globe.
I remember running through the streets of my hometown as it burned. Women and children were consumed by the COVID monster left and right. I boarded myself up in an abandoned house with a few survivors when one of them coughed. I didn't hesitate to put him down.

No it’s because she uses the time stone to view alternate futures. She knows that Strange’s destiny is to become Sorcerer Supreme.
She can see everything up to the moment of her death, can’t predict past that point (as the explains to Strange during her death scene). Hence why she is confused and lacks understanding of things that Bruce says regarding events in the far future (like Strange giving up the time stone willingly).
I still think when The Sorcerer Supreme pushes Banner out of Hulks body, Hulk should've still still been in there and able to get up and do something, like attack her for the stone, even if it fails cause she has magic they've established multiple times Hulk and Banner are separate entities
Sounds like it would have made for an even funnier moment if she had to hit the Hulk again and ended up with Hulk body, spirit Hulk, and spirit Banner and the latter two were arguing with each other while trying to ask for the stone.

Afterward, Doctor Strange explains why the stones have been placed in the briefcase and reveals that the Tesseract, Orb, and Sceptre have been shrunken down to fit in Cap’s pockets and will be re-enlarged after he arrives in the past to re-contain their respective stones at the proper time.
In the second episode, Cap visits the Ancient One in 2012 prior to the arrival of his earlier self in New York. There, she uses the combined power of the six stones in the briefcase to cast future-dated spells that will make the 2012-2014 timelines reset themselves once the heisted stones have been returned to their proper places. Afterwards, she transports to the roof of the New York sanctum where she gives Hulk the original version of the Time Stone after first putting on a performance-act of initial resistance and surprise to ensure he understands the importance of returning the stones afterward. She then reclaims the returned-version from Cap’s briefcase.
In the third episode, the Ancient One continues to assist Cap by helping him recapture Loki and returning him into SHIELD custody along with the stolen 2012-Tesseract. Afterwards, the re-enlarged Sceptre re-containing the Mind Stone is given back to the Hydra goons, thus triggering the first timeline-reboot spell which erases everyone’s memory of the wayward events. However, the final scene then reveals that since Loki misused the Space Stone’s power in the wayward timeline, a branch-timeline was nevertheless still created, thus requiring the TVA to intervene.
In the fourth episode, Cap shoots forward to 2013 where he re-teams with the Ancient One for the journey to Asgard. There, they work together to neutralize Heimdall before putting the Reality Stone/Aether back into Jane Foster’s body and returning the enchanted hammer to a comically confused Thor. Afterward, the timeline is then likewise reset to erase everyone’s memories.
The fifth episode has Cap shooting forward again to 2014 where he and the Ancient One return the re-enlarged Orb containing the Power Stone back to the temple on Morag after first making a brief but necessary side-trip to delay Korath’s arrival and prevent his interference. The sixth episode then has Cap being sent to Vormir where, in order to return the Soul Stone, he must first contend with a temporarily freed Red Skull and a temporarily resurrected Natasha Romanoff.
The start of the seventh episode then reveals that, with the two stones from 2014 returned, the timeline has also now been reset so that everyone’s memories have been erased and that exact duplicate/replacement versions of Thanos, Gamora, and Nebula have been created to take the place of their original counterparts who jumped forward to 2023.
Before travelling back to 1970 and then further back to 1946 though, Cap first reveals to the Ancient One that Doctor Strange had previously placed a charmed spell over Cap’s aura so that no one in the past would be able to recognize who he really is unless he wants them to. Hence, Peggy would be able to see Cap in his true form when he returns to her whereas everyone else would see him as somebody different. This would then enable him to easily change his name and assume the identity of a former G.I. whose unit was rescued by Captain America during the war as per the reference in the _Winter Soldier_ film. This also then explains why the younger Cap didn't recognize his older self at Peggy's funeral during the _Civil War_ movie.
In the last part of this seventh episode, Cap returns to 1970 and puts the re-enlarged Tesseract containing the Space Stone back in the vault, then proceeds up to Hank Pym’s lab to put back the four replenished vials of Pym Particles. Upon arriving in the lab however, he is unexpectedly intercepted by the TVA. The final episode then has Cap being recruited by the TVA to fight the Red Guardian in 1984 before being allowed to return to 1946 and live happily ever after.

You know, I was wondering how they were able to mess with the timeline without it going bonkers. I never watched the movie only RUclips clips and the science and magic just made my head hurt. Now I know that they went back in time to return the stones at the moment they took them. Not as many ripples :) Thank you for the clip!
This scene is so well acted because for the first time it really highlights the enormity of the risk the Strange was willing to take, the act of which informs the Ancient One of how dire the situation actually is.
Hulk vs saitama what a dream battle
Bruce had a much bigger role than most people believe in this movie. But each of their roles played a vital part to the defeat of Thanos.
His role however, involved breaking the rules of reality, and sewing it back together in the blink of time while bringing back half of the population using 6 infinity stones all at once for the first time ever in a glove that can barely hold the energy together, in less than 2 minutes.
He might've taken the L against Thanos in the 1v1 (Copyright Would've Slapped Disney, had he beaten Thanos), but he saved all of humanity. Thats a big W for the green monster everyone fears. His own personal redemption.
I don't think I've wished more for Ed Nortons version of the Hulk than I do when I watch this scene. 😢

I always thought when she said she was wrong; she meant, wrong about strange and wrong about choosing him to be her successor. They obviously didn’t go that route but it would’ve been cool to see to how banner fights the ancient to the retrieve the stone.

This scene makes Stranges move so smart. He had to protect Stark seeing that he was the one to reverse the snap so he makes a deal with Thanos but in giving it away willingly also sends a message to the Ancient one to allow her to give it to Banner.
Ancient One: “Dr. Strange gave it away willingly? That traitor!”
It bothered me and still does to this day that both the Banner AND Hulk personas were not pushed out of Professor Hulk
Honestly, Professor Hulk is just like... a really uncomfortable representation of a plural system, especially in this scene where Hulk just flat-out stopped existing at all.

This film was truly the last great hurrah of the MCU. Better, I would argue, than even Infinity War. Even if the final battle itself was clichéd and emotionally manipulative, the film as a whole dialled back the goofy humour and let the drama play out naturally.
She'll find out if they survived in like 2 seconds, Cap is right around the corner, probably hiding in a flower pot.
