    Just a little inspiration for this couple or anyone else that may need it….
    My boyfriend and I were long time drug users, fentanyl & meth being our drugs of choice. Everyone told us it would be impossible to get sober while being in a relationship and honestly, they weren’t wrong. Getting sober in a relationship usually doesn’t work out because if one of them decides they want to leave treatment, the other will most likely follow. But, for my boyfriend and I, we actually managed to go to treatment, get sober and are still together today raising our beautiful 3 yr old daughter. You CAN get sober and get your kids back! I can tell that talking about her kids really upset sky. You seem like good people. Keep fighting, you will get there one way or another!

We didn’t want to lose each other but knew we had to do something, we were spending $1,000/day from a settlement, overdosing was not uncommon we were going to die. We walked into a clinic and We’ve been sober from heroin since October 10, 2016.

    My husband and I got clean after 15 years of pills, then heroin, then fent and finally a 4 year course of methadone (including a taper). It’s been 15 months now since our tapers ended. We did it side by side, hand in hand.
    We have 3 children and I overdosed one night (the first and last) and reality came at me like a freight train. I can’t leave my kids. With in the month, we were on methadone and getting stable (my eldest daughter helped us get in. She was in her mid 20s at the time, not a child).
    My kids were surprised because we hid it out of shame but we are better than ever now and focusing on spending as much time with our kids and grandbabies as possible. Life is good.

      I hope their ideas of failure and success change for the better.
      Children have a 50/50 chance of making a different decision. Sadly, adult children still try to please their parents. Even after abandonment. This goes on and on Choosing partners who abandon them and doing all they can to please them instead of becoming the best person they can. If people value themselves, they know they can achieve ANYTHING and will only spend time with folks who lift them up. I grew up with alcoholism in the family on one side and abuse on the other side and i made the decision to be different. To have a different life. I don’t take no for an answer.
      Sadly, there is an age old force in the universe that will always exist. Every great story is written with both sides. Otherwise, Humans get bored listening….. what are your thoughts?

It cannot be undone. Yet with humans so many refuse to join the dots regarding how important care in infancy and early childhood is to crucial human brain development into a healthy adult. A lot of these interviewees literally missed their ‘socialisation window’ due to poor parenting.

    • @hollymiranda0826
      @hollymiranda0826 Год назад +4

      I very much agree so many say they had a pretty normal childhood… & then proceed to talk about a parent or parents - often a father - being in & out of jail growing up & never knowing their bio mom because she was a stripper as Kamen just described. It seems what made his life “normal” is that he was adopted & raised by seemingly good parents who _adopted_ him - being his problems started at 16 when he met his bio dad upon his release from prison (which I don’t remember him saying he was adopted?!… until he said his son is with his adoptive parents!! Thank God they took him in). Sadly, many believe that growing up in a single parent (usually their mother) household is completely normal.
      I do have to say what is a _normal_ childhood??? As our society has essentially lost the morals, values, & ethics that many of us, of course, never all, but traditionally children grew up learning, knowing, & understanding these ideals from a very young age & used them as a means to guide them through their childhood & life - was the norm when I was growing up & I’m 39… it’s evident there’s very little of that anymore as our society has become such a wasteland, in general.
      I guess the ideal childhood is to have married parents that actually stay together, with both, or at least the father, having good stable careers, both are highly involved in their children’s lives - taking them to & from extracurricular activities after school & in the evenings, they actually sit down at the kitchen table & do homework with their child(ren) - & on weekends doing activities involving the family & going on trips…. This is what I knew as the norm. But, again, in this “day & age”, what is considered a “normal” upbringing???

Often it is quite hard to settle in back into the everyday life and find structure and balance. It is with this close minded prejudice that people who are addicted to substances as powerful as opoids are seen as "foul" and evil as the "choose" this life. It is not true at all and whilst I could go into details of biological effects substance abuse has on the user and altering their point of view I just want to raise awareness and openness for addiction. As an ex addict myself I can say its not that you don't want but it's a long way to get there. Be it alcohol or hard drugs an addiction is a challenge you battle through life. And even if you relapse it doesn't mean you have failed. It's an ongoing battle and I hope more people will have the courage and see that.
