    Pretty cool that Cav breaks the record with a sprint that clearly shows the experience and strategy of his discipline, and not just a perfect leadout, a reduced field, or some mistake from his opponents. Glad he got to do it in style. Curious to see if he gets another this tour. If Jasper continues to look this unremarkable, and Pederson is truly banged up, then he may yet win a few.

    Thanks for showing the complete overhead view! We never saw it on TV, so it was difficult to understand how Cav ended up the other side of the road after being boxed in on the right side. Clear win, great performance for a 39 yo sprinter!!

    • @JeppeAchtonNielsen
      @JeppeAchtonNielsen 2 дня назад +2

      @@great_live_music He should not have been allowed to keep it. He changed lane after launching his sprint, this led to all the other sprinters changing lanes and ultimately led to the crash of Pedersen. The exact rule of sprinting is worded as follows:"Riders shall be strictly forbidden to deviate from the lane they selected when launching
      into the sprint and, in so doing, endangering others." Did Cav change lane after launching, definitely! Did it endanger others? Pedersen crashing would not have happened if the others kept to their lanes. Thus it is easy to argue that the lane changing did endanger others.

    • @eddypawson
      @eddypawson 2 дня назад +18

      @JeppeAchtonNielsen You missed the part where he looks over his shoulder, finds the clear air, and moves across without actually pinning anyone to the barrier? The move didn't impede any other riders sprint, Pedersens crash was a result of going for a gap that was closing naturally as the bunch straightened up out of the corner

    • @BrianWelch-vc7xy
      @BrianWelch-vc7xy 2 дня назад +12

      @@JeppeAchtonNielsen Hard disagree, the video evidence shows Cav moved into an empty lane and didn't cut off anyone else.
      At 7:30 you can clearly see the huge open space around Cav. Philipsen is the one who swerves across the road and cuts off several other riders. The rider in red behind Philipsen at 7:31 doesn't move at all despite Philipsen jumping in front of him, so clearly his lane is unaffected.
      It's the rider in red and yellow behind that guy who cuts hard left into the barriers that causes the chain reaction sending Pedersen into the barriers at 7:32.
      Pedersen's crash had nothing to do with Cav or even Philipsen, and Philipsen's maneuver was far more dangerous to the other riders. The fact that nobody threw their hands up in protest further proves the point.

    I never had any doubts about Mark. He is THE GOAT of sprinters, and that record will stand forever unless Pog tries to break the record! And I loved seeing him beating Jasper Philipsen to get number 36. Jasper is a smug arrogant bully that got out sprinted by a 39 year old man, and his reaction after getting beat says it all about what kind a racer he is he just rides by Mark and doesn't congratulate Mark at all like all the other sprinters did..I wouldn't be surprised if he gets another win or 2 more.

      @@JZTechEngineering Cav has the form of his career that time. He just won the British national champs in a non-sprinter like way. At that time Jakobsen has not won anything yet in the season or have placing top 3 or top5, I could be wrong. But Im very sure of the form Cav has that time of 2022 before TdF.

    Cav’s sprint came across as a master class. Is there anyone else in the peloton who would have the sense and ability to thread the needle AND cut across the road - safely - like that? That’s the stuff of legend.

    Have watched the TdF avidley every year since 2001, and I remember a young upstart sprinter appearing on the scene in 2008, cockily declaring that he was the fastest in the world. But he very quickly started backing up his claims, his wins became some of the most exciting stage finishes on the Tour; and over the years he became one of the greatest riders in Tour history. Then in 2016 it was all over, and even though it was sad, it made sense after 8 years as a GT professional. I don't think the '35' has been Sir Marks primary objective, I just think he wanted to finish his career on a high, rather than having to retire through illness, or after being scraped of the road with a broken shoulder. Anyway, Mark you are a true legend, a sporting GOAT, and thanks for all the thrills and spills over the years!

    121 ARNAUD DE LIE was probably the cause of Mads crash as he made the left move, forcing the guy behind to move as well not to overlap, and that put Mads in the barrier.

    I’m very happy Cav launched his attack to the left opening a massive gap so that Philipsen didn’t have to push anyone to the barriers this time. If the gap was any smaller this would have ended up in a crash, Philipsen didn’t even look to the left before starting his maneuver.
