The armed forces cannot enforce border policy, they can only provide aid and intelligence to the official border patrol but cannot provide physical support. We used to post them on the border however they were essentially useless given the law doesn’t allow them to really do anything. It was just an attempt to give the public a false sense of security.
We already are, and we are using money donated by citizens to do it. The federal government is helping (currently), and we can only build bits at a time, and only in Texas. Litigation from the federal government suing us is another reason the process is taking longer.

I lived in Mt. Shasta Northern Cali for three years. This area is called The Emerald Triangle where most of the cannabis is grown due to the vast amounts of wilderness. Cartels have set up grows in Cali's National Parks. They use dangerous chemicals in their grows. Once they harvest they permanently abandon the area leaving litter and toxic chemicals and containers. These Parks are so vast it's easy to hide in them.

When fighting Indians once they shoot, the indians would attack while normally reloading. But to their surprise the Rangers had 5 more shots to fire. The first meeting of these guns on the idians was a blood bath for them. Saved the Rangers too because they were out numbered.
Carrying two pistols meant having 12 shots available before needing to reload.
