The missing not pain enough. When I saw my teammate ride the mons, I thought it gonna be big opening after they hit it to the wall. But nah after I’m prepared the move, just wait for release the hit. They drive the mons to different area… I’m swear I just wanna kill my teammates at that point.
I loved the controller/button display. It is by far the best addition you could add to a MH tutorial (as a PC player the videos that explain with switch buttons make my head explode)
Sacred Sheathe is crazy good and not just because of the full charge. The sheathing itself is 2 counters. 1st is the auto counter that drains spirit gauge by 1, but the 2nd is better by letting go of the sheathing manually right before a hit registers the spirit drain is negated, you gain back a little and the next R2 will immediately be your chosen finisher seen at 2:07 which can be chained immediately to another sacred sheathe. Its very fast and seemless, you can chain together counters quickly and at potentially no cost. Also, sacred shethe negates the end lag of any combo and repositions your facing direction. It has bonkers utility and is the first LS move you get in Sunbreak.
Tbh the only other weapon that needs a video like this is GS for the Surge Slash, the rest of the weapons are very straight foward with their changes, either you spam the new silkbind move (like Bullet Barage for GL) or you have more options to do the exact same thing you did before (CBs looping the Axe combo with Ready Stance or just playing same ol CPP to SAED spam)
OMG THANK YOU for not just showing switch buttons, every guide I watch uses switch terms instead of visuals and Im over here on pc using an xbox controller trying to translate on the fly. Very helpful!
It is so incredibly convenient to have the buttons displayed on the screen. Thank You so much with that and i hope you inlcude it in your future guides!
I know this isn't the focus of the video, but the music here is perfect. It really gives me a sense of anticipation as I prepare to play this evening by studying the ways of the blade under Master Darkside
Omg , the game just became 100% more fun thanks to this tutorial.I didnt undestood the changing silk blind skills on the go before this. now its way more dinamic. Thank you very much TDS!!!
I watched a few videos on longswords but found yours to be one of the most helpful. Your video was the one that showed me how to quickly chain sakura slash using spirit counter then I applied that knowledge to any situation where I did not want to sheath after sakura slash. I used to never spirit counter now I constantly use it. I found combo 2 helpful as well. Thank you so much for giving me tips to greatly expand my longsword game.
When I've figured out that the sacred sheath skill can be used prematurely for decent damage, it made LS incredibly more fun to use with Sakura Slash. The uptime damage if you're on the monster is insane.
It's crazy how people got so pissed off and said the LS got all the cool moves when they saw harvest moon. The things take forever to activate, cost 2 wirebug, disappear if you sheathe or touch the ring twice, force you to remain in a small area while the monsters are going crazy, rely on knowing the monster patterns perfectly already to basically do as much damage as before the nerfs. If anything the new moves made the gameplay of the long sword slower and more clunky to use. Now it feels more unga bunga to play it.
Two notes: if you plan to spice up your initial approach to a monster by riding in on a different one, a sakura slash on your intended mount will raise the spirit level enough to not need a third wirebug to immediately get to red gauge. Also, showing up on a different monster is a great way to wake up espinas. Secondly, the tempered spirit slash. It doesn't seem useful for speedrunning, and probably isn't, but in casual gameplay it's actually really nice as a defensive tool. The counter comes out near instantly and raises spirit level even if you don't land your attack, as well as having an extremely short wirebug cooldown. It isn't worth using in a speedrun over keeping both sakura slash and helmbreaker, but if you feel like you have enough damage and gauge spending from sacred sheathing and serene pose, and are struggling to survive against certain attacks, it's a great get out of jail free card because it has no real drawback for missing.
Another thing to note in why i love Tempered Spirit Slash, is i play with friends and im not always the sole target of the monster so im not always mid combo and able to foresight slash something when it suddenly makes me its target halfway through its combo, so being able to panic Parry with the Tempered Spirit Slash is terrific. also a side note of being able to fire off two parries instantly using Sacred Sheathe and then Spirit Tempered Slash, like in situations where you find yourself the target of both of Magnamalo's Snipes ect.
Also, TSS doesn't interrupt your combos, so if you were just about to spirit roundslash, and you parry with TSS, you can roundslash right after and get 2 colors up immediately.
@@Velhalv yes! Exactly! I almost forgot that part! Sometimes ill use it just to delay the roundslash to that the roundslash actually hits(looking at you Astalos, Rathalos ect., stay on that goddamn ground)

Thanks for this. Played through most of MR playing the old way and was wondering why it seemed to take a while even when I felt like I was doing kind of well. Time to relearn how to play!
Some important nerfs that you didn't mention are that the gauge attack multiplier was reduced. Before white/yellow/red gave a 1.05/1.10/1.20 raw and element multiplier and now it gives a 1.04/1.08/1.12 multiplier which is a huge nerf and the most significant of every single change from Rise to Sunbreak on longsword. The aura multipliers are found in the file PlayerUserDataLongsword.user.2. Additionally the spirit combos had their MVs increased with the exception of the reckoner combo which remained the same (30-30-60) except for the last hit which got nerfed from 60MV to 56MV in Sunbreak (30-30-56). The move MVs are found in the file LongSword.rcol.20 The changes you mentioned about the iai slash counter are all correct and every other MV listed in the video is also right.
Great Video! Since I just got into LS in Sunbreak, I got a bit confused at 2:01, but it seems the controller display for the Sakura Slash was just wrong? :)
this is just exactly what i need! i feel a little bit overwhelmed about these news features and many new switch skills. Sunbreak kinda forced you to adapt to the new mechanics, which is cool imo, but yeah you need a good place to learn in the first place. and this is just the video!
Agree with everything here. So sad tempered spirit blade can't be used; harvest moon is a cool concept but hard to make work - especially at the cost of two wirebugs, now that we have to use it more for sakura as well; roundslash + sacred + sakura go together so nicely; and oooh now we LS players can have fun with elements? Great vid.
I'm am confused. At 3:20 you do a Sakura slash, consuming your last wire bug. Then you switch and follow up with a helm breaker, while all bugs are still on cooldown. How does that work?
Amazing guide here!!! just have 3 related skills I need to check here. Focus: does it reduce the charging time during sacred sheathe? Evade extender & evade window: do they increase the evade distance and invulnerability during sacred sheathe? I kinda believe evade window can be extremely handy if the invulnerability duration is longer, plus most attacks can't knock back hunters when releasing slash. I wanna run a quick test today after work to see if there's any potential in these skills to create some dramatic hunting experience.
Using quick sheath decreases the Time it takes to filly sheath with the sacred combo however with a longer sheath time with no quick sheath you have a longer counter window
Oh that's how you chain together Sakura slashes, I normally main IG, but I picked up the long sword because I realised I could make a decent set for it as early as MR2, and that meta would favour some of the easier switch skills rather than counter spam.
Thank you for this video. As an LS main the nerfs hit me hard, as Iai counter deals way less damage and Helm Breaker is far more punishable now. I was having some trouble weaving the new moves together, but this video showed me some very solid ideas to get the ball rolling. Cheers!
I feel like I was the dump one to learn countering so hard. They just fu@king nerf everything required lots of practice. I think those hard work is nothing right now.
@@PekoraMamiCouncilHK the counter is literally the easiest thing to land in the game wtf are you talking about. LS is the most broken es weapon by FAR and you still want to complain????
From my own play and testing, the sacred sheathe slash combo has not quite I frames, but uninterruptable frames - i .e. if the monster hits you during the charge you lose all your charge but if you release the attacks, the actual slashes cannot be interrupted (even monster roars without earplugs, heavy attacks, etc) - you still take damage but reduced damage.
The initial charge before you current gauge is consumed does have I-frame if you release it manually just a little before you’re hit. Not only that you don’t lose a gauge level, it refreshes your current gauge duration, and you can chain into a roundhouse slash to raise it by one more.
@@robingoodfellow8097 yup yup. The sheathe animation has I frames and refills the gauge. Also puts you in the 2nd or 3rd part of spirit slash combo IIRC.

man when i first started playing with MH3U i picked longsword bc it was super simple now i need a guide to relearn how to play it with rise bc of how much more complex its become
Hey I know in the video it was stated that harvest moon is not recommended, since it's difficult to use and you can't sheath your weapon since it disappears, meaning you can't heal during it. BUT, for the stubborn ones that still want to use it as you get better, there is a way to use items. If you are in the circle, have your weapon out and use your items from the radial menu (potions, meat, dust, even barrel bombs), your character will sheath their weapon and start using the item, and if you do the draw attack before the item using animation completely ends, or even right after, you'll get to keep the circle. Makes using harvest moon a lot more tolerable :)
Lol love the fact that even though I’m a mouse and keyboard player so I wouldn’t be able to see the exact inputs I’ve already been doing these combos anyways.
Bit of a strange feeling, here. When I saw Longsword obtain Harvest Moon, I was SURE that it would be the straw that broke the camel’s back for LS’s DPS…but in fact, LS’s camel is now a regular, reliable horse, and Harvest Moon has been banished to farming simulators. The nerfs across the motion values as well as the new application for old, wonderful Silkbind moves like Sakura Slash were well and good, but seeing the high risk, high reward style of Sacred Sheathe as well as noting its powerful, yet NOT overwhelming advantages are quite reassuring. Am I entertaining the idea of potentially picking up the weapon alongside my Hunting Horn, Lance and Gunlance?
Sacred Sheathe is FAR from being high risk high reward, it's low risk with REALLY high reward, the damage on this skill is insane and the fact that you can counter anything for FREE means it's an even better counter than foresight slash.
Sacred sheathe has taught me the true feeling of GS players... The pain of missing.
The missing not pain enough. When I saw my teammate ride the mons, I thought it gonna be big opening after they hit it to the wall. But nah after I’m prepared the move, just wait for release the hit. They drive the mons to different area… I’m swear I just wanna kill my teammates at that point.

Thanks alot for your videos are very helpful!!
I got chills hearing that BO2 menu music 🤣
Whats the layered armor being used in this video? Really like it!
Lol love the fact that even though I’m a mouse and keyboard player so I wouldn’t be able to see the exact inputs I’ve already been doing these combos anyways.
the controller scheme of 'press these buttons' is muchhhh better for scubs like me hahaha tytyty
Dude!!! On screen controller button presses!?!?!? You're the fucking goat!
Sacred Sheathe is FAR from being high risk high reward, it's low risk with REALLY high reward, the damage on this skill is insane and the fact that you can counter anything for FREE means it's an even better counter than foresight slash.
you can do helmsplitter + sacred sheathe yellow bar comb. its much easier to hit this combo because of the stagger/knock chance of helm breaker
How did you perform the round slash combo after the scared sheathed counter ? I cannot replicated by following the commands.
